Rough Places into Level Ground
Miracles
Have you ever felt like you needed a miracle? Our need for a miracle is often heightened during the Christmas season. A time when feelings of loss, loneliness and sadness often feel so insurmountable alongside all the hype, festivities and promises of joy that we simply may not feel. As we study together today, we will meet a woman in need of a miracle, and we may find a piece of ourselves in her life. And we will also find our miracle.

Miracles
Welcome to today’s podcast called Miracles.
Have you ever felt like you needed a miracle? Have you been struggling for so long, desperate for a change, a cure, an answer to prayer? Where do we get this miracle? Can we order it on Amazon, will we find it in a black Friday special, or holiday sale? Or is the miracle right before us, just waiting to be claimed?
Today we will be studying in Mark 5:24-34. We will meet a woman desperate for a miracle, a woman who has searched the world for years, spent all she had, as the life drained out of her, as all her efforts failed.
As we begin our reading in Mark 5 we find Jesus on His way to heal Jarius’s daughter who was at the point of death. As Jesus was walking to the home of the girl He was followed and surrounded by a large group of people pressing in all around Him. Within this crowd was a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years. She was desperate to find a way to stop the blood draining from her. Blood that caused her to be an outcast wherever she went, blood that caused her to be thought of as unclean, isolated, and shunned. She went to all the doctors she could find and spent all the money that she had but got no better. She had searched the world for an answer, but the world had none. All her efforts to help herself had failed, and she needed a miracle.
She had heard about Jesus, and these reports of this Jesus made her believe He could give her the miracle she sought. She had come to the very end of her ability; she had no place left in the world to turn and she set out to find Jesus. She made her way into and through the crowd, knowing they would protest her nearness, fearing her uncleanness would spread to them. But she endured, she made her way through the crowd and there He was, and she reached out and touched Him, believing He would make her well. And immediately she felt in her body that she had been healed.
Jesus, knew she was there, knew she had touched Him. Amidst the multitudes of people that pressed in on Him, Jesus knew this woman was there and turned to ask, “Who touched my garments?” And Jesus looked for her. Jesus looked for who had reached out to Him. Meanwhile His disciples said to Him, given all these people in this crowd who are touching you how can you take notice of and look for one person who touched you? The woman knew Jesus had healed her, and answered Him, she fell down before Him and told Him her whole truth. And Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your disease.”
The woman had searched for years, had given all her money, spent all her energy on worldly cures, only to find none. She was alone, ashamed, and shunned. She did not understand what was happening to her, she was searching for anything to help her find rest, peace, and a place to belong. Aren’t we all searching, don’t we all have times like this? Times when we just need a miracle, rest, peace, someone to notice, hear us and value us, and a place where we can belong and be accepted.
Jesus offers us this place. He says come, believe in Me, let me heal you, let me love and value you as nothing in this world ever can or will. All He offers is free, all He offers is waiting for us to believe in Him and be saved. Jesus promises to enter our every circumstance and work within them and within us in ways we never could. He promises to walk alongside us guiding us through everything we face, to strengthen us in ways we never knew, and to bring us to a place of peace that exceeds all our understanding. A place where our problems do not have to become a way of life. A place where our belief in Him will heal us, renew our lives, and give us the strength to walk on. If these words speak to you, reach out and believe in our Lord and Savior and He will do the rest, trust Him.
As we end let me leave you with Hebrews 11:6 which tells us that those who draw near to God find Him drawing near to them, God is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Please join me in a closing prayer. Father we are all in some way hurting and lost. We spend so much time trying to make it through this world on our own or to find someone or something that will help us. Help us to turn to you, to believe in you, to seek you in your word and trust as we reach out to you, and know that you will see us in the biggest crowd and never again will we walk alone and we will know that by our faith in you, you heal, renew and strengthen us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Thanks for joining us and until next time, Praise God and God Bless.
