Teachers, neighbours, doctors, even the local minister all witnessed the chaos, with knocking sounds seeming to follow Virginia from home to school and back again, as if the ghost had decided it was her personal plus-one. Explanations ranged from psychological stress to outright fakery to genuine spirit antics, but no one could make sense of it, and before anyone could say “get the holy water,” the activity fizzled out just as mysteriously as it began, leaving behind one of Scotland’s strangest and most hotly debated hauntings.
