Scriptures tells us that our number one thing we are supposed to do is to first Love God with all our hearts and all our minds and all our souls. Then we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. I mean come on that was over 2000 years ago, what does that look like today? In this show, we are going to tackle some of the difficult topics for us today. Including Loving others, Living our lives dedicated to God.... and that includes our finances and our possessions. Thanks for doing us and I pray that in some small way you are blessed today. ~ Steve

Authentic Manhood | Bk 2 Ch 2 | Dad wound
Authentic Manhood 33 series recap:
Dad… The importance of our fathers.
In the book there is a portion of the song by Lecrae and I’m only going to share some of that poem. I
It’s called “Just Like You”, I want to encourage you to listen to the whole song, I’m not gonna do it justice.
But God sees through my foolish pride and not I’m weak like Adam another victim of Lucifer’s lies. But then in steps Jesus all men were created to lead, but we need someone to lead us. More than a teacher, but somebody to buy us back from the darkness. You say that he redeemed us, taught us that real leaders follow God Finish the work ‘cause we’re on our job taught us not to rob but give life, love a wife like He loved the church. Not seeing how many hearts we can break first, I wanna be like you in every way So if I gotta die everyday Unworthy sacrifice But the least I can do is give the most of me Because being like you is what I’m supposed to be.
Present or absent, good or bad, the father/son relationship is significant in shaping us all. None of us were raised by a perfect father and that has left us wounded in some way.
Proverbs 17:6 says that Grandchildren are the crown jewel of old men, And the glory of sons is their fathers. Glory here is Object of Pride. The old joke goes, if I knew how much fun grandkids were, I’d have been nicer to their parents. HA! My wife and I are grandparents to 4 amazing grand kids. I couldn’t agree more that verse that our grandkids are a sense of pride.
Every father gets undeserved admiration from his sons the minute they come into the world.
In 1960 Father absent homes were 16%. Today that number has risen to 35%. And yet, modern research has demonstrated the importance of fathers in the home
Did you know that statistically, children growing up in a father-absent home are more likely to:
- Die in infancy
- Live in poverty
- End up in prison
- Use Drugs
- Be abused
- Be overweight
- Drop out of school
Whereas children who have involved fathers are more likely to have:
- Better Grades
- Better verbal skills
- More Confidence
- Better Physical health
Research shows that fathers uniquely add value to their children.
Remember… a wound is any unresolved issue where a lack of closure adversely impacts and shapes the direction of a mans life now. The Father wound is an ongoing emotional, social

Steve is married to his HS sweetheart for over 35 years, has 4 kids and 4 grand kids. Steve grew up in church and was saved at a young age, but it wasn’t until the last 10 years or so where Steve has been walking closer with Jesus, realizing the importance of ‘Just a closer walk with Him’.
He is a member of Riverside Community Church and is a leader of the Men at the River Mens group. He is also part of the worship team. Thank you to God for allowing me to do this podcast.
Thanks to my wife for encouraging me to do this.
Thank you to Men at the River - Riverside Community Church for continuing to push me to be a better Husband, Father, and Jesus Follower.
In high school, my mom used to listen to a 10 minute devotional before the bus came. If we heard Robert Cook saying, "Walk with the king today and be a blessing." we knew we were running late.
