January 12, 2025 Zechariah: Repentance, Restoration, and the Redeemer

This morning, we began our Old Testament sermon series on the book of Zechariah. This Old Testament prophet ministered during a time of great upheaval and amid a search for identity for the people of God following the exile to Babylon. Zechariah was a prophet who both ministered to his generation and who ministers to his future readers as he prophesies concerning the Messiah and the coming age.

This morning's sermon looked at Zechariah 1:1-6 and sought to make several points to help orient ourselves for the remainder of the book--Zechariah preached repentance; Zechariah longed for future restoration; Zechariah preached the future arrival of the redeemer; Zechariah awkwardly preached the temple's importance; Zechariah preached a welding of office of prophet/priest/king; Zechariah saw the future arrival of judgment/salvation for Israel and the nations; Zechariah preached to God's community to be God's community; and Zechariah the book was seen by the apostles to preach Christ.
