So no shave, november. You look good with just this dash.
Speaker 2Yeah I, it's growing on me.
Speaker 1Jesus, I was gonna shave I actually just might To let my beer kind of regrow back in a little healthier.
Speaker 2Yeah, I got laughed at at home at first, oh absolutely. And then they wanted to know how long it's gonna last. It's November 30th. I said it's the very least. November 30th, maybe forever.
Speaker 1Honestly, you shave what. The first day of November. Mm-hmm and you just let it grow back all month or Back to normal. Yeah, right, because you've always had a beard in a mustache, mm-hmm, I've gone just a mustache a few times and I've gotten laughed at.
Speaker 2Yeah, there's a bunch of us at work doing it. You know we don't have a bunch of looks like. We have a bunch of state troopers running around Gonna open up our own barracks.
Speaker 1There it is who brings the donuts in every day.
Speaker 2But I guess the idea behind it is Just to highlight men's health in the month of November. Bring some awareness, raise some money All goes for good cause. So just a fun way to do that.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's fun to do that as a group or as a team of workers, especially with guys. It is a men's health awareness month, so no shade, november, sports, prostate cancer. So, guys, if you're out there and want to donate, donate a couple of bucks to prostate cancer awareness and research funds, up yourselves out, help out a loved one potentially down the road. Men's health doesn't get talked about enough enough because we don't talk about our own health health enough. That's a terrible series of GHS and TH words that I just stumbled across. No.
Speaker 1But it is important as men, as fathers, as husbands, we take care of our bodies, we take care of our health and have an understanding what's going on. I Need to go see a doctor, get some full blood work drawn up, see where I'm at levels wise, and get that taken care of. We've got Sports center plan. In the background, arnold Schwarzenegger is feeding a donkey.
Speaker 2What is he feeding the donkey?
Speaker 1Protein cookies or something I don't know. He's on the manning cast like a recap. Arnold does whatever he wants.
Speaker 2He's earned that right?
Speaker 1I think he has. All right. Well, let's get into it. Welcome back everybody To the dalleys cast podcast. A couple weeks since we uploaded Hectic Now that it's, you know, the first week of November Things are calming down a little bit.
Speaker 2Yeah, calm before the storm or the holidays.
Speaker 1Thanksgiving is two weeks away. Man, it's election day. Go out and vote, do your civic duty. Vote for the person that's going to. I Don't have an effect on your life, I guess. I Think it's mostly like county stuff this year and like your local councils and school boards. So Go vote if you want to see change. You can't complain if you don't do it. So you got to go do it at the end of the day. But with the holidays right around the corner, I'm getting hungry. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1I'm getting hungry, but before we get into food discussions, let's read a card from answer the internet. I Sorted through some of these, pulled out the x-rated ones. We're thinking about doing a dalleys cast after dark episode, or we're just. You know, we said we wouldn't do any crazy swearing and talking about Off the cuff stuff, but I think I think we should do one just to get it out of our system, because there's some cards in here I really want to read, but for today's episode. So let's just knock this into it. Answer the internet. Gary, would you rather have 50 grand straight to your bank account, or half a million dollars in pennies, but you couldn't convert it. Hmm, and by converting it I assume they mean like rolling it and taking it to 10. You can't exchange it at the bank for dollar bills.
Speaker 2Could you coin start though.
Calculating 50 Million Pennies' Value
Speaker 1And how much you gonna lose in. Well, you don't fees, you don't do half a million at once obviously you break the machine, but you do just huge chunks of it at a time. Hmm, Are you're gonna go grocery shopping so you just take like A 64 42 pounds of pennies with a 64 ounce jar of pennies, dump it in. I don't know, I'm thinking that.
Speaker 2I'm probably gonna go with 50 grand in my bank.
Speaker 1Take the safe dance, always take the 50 g straight to the bank account logistics of of a half a million dollars in pennies is daunting.
Speaker 2Let's google that how many pennies? Are in 500 grand, it would be 500, 100, 100, 1000 Dollars. Would that not be 50 million pennies? I think you're correct, but you know, did I slide a decimal one too many places? First of all, 50 million pennies. Where in the world are you gonna store 50 million pennies? Yeah, I know.
Speaker 1I don't know someone pointed out here because I googled it what if you just load it up like a big truck and took it to a scrap yard and sold?
Speaker 2it for scrap? Is there enough copper and a penny for it to be worth it?
Speaker 1Let's ask the google machine.
Speaker 2First or second. Well, how much does 50 million pennies weigh?
Speaker 1Penny. So penny is two and a half percent copper. Okay, how much does one penny weigh?
Speaker 22.5 grams, 2.5 grams. All right, here's the quick math 2.5 grams times 50 million, it's 125 million grams.
Speaker 1So let's see here a single us penny weighs about two and a half grams, so one million pennies would be about 5500 pounds.
Speaker 2So you take 55, 125,000 kilograms, but take um and you as we don't like the metric system.
Speaker 1I'll take 5,511 times. Oh, I did this wrong. So a hundred million pennies is 312.5 tons.
Speaker 2Yeah, just for a quick reference for any of our european listening friends, that we as americans will literally Measure anything with anything, any type of unit other than the metric system right, so it'd be 2,500 kilograms per million pennies.
Speaker 1So you take 2,500 kilograms times 50 million.
Speaker 2And 2.5 percent of that is copper All right.
Speaker 1So let's just break out uh, where is it? Where is it? I know it's here, there it is. So we're going to take uh, 5,511 pounds times 50, five times 50, so you would have it's not getting any commas 300, 275 billion. That's not right. Yeah, that's right 275 billion, 555 million pounds of pennies times 025, 275, 50, 123 equals 68 million 688 million, 800 no. 6 billion 888 million 750 thousand. So how much does copper go?
Speaker 2for, according to google, pound of copper, right now the going rates three dollars and seventy cents.
Speaker 1Times 3.7. I don't know, boys, you might have to scrap those half a million pennies or half half a million, so 500 thousand. That's where you messed up. I've been multiplying by a million.
Speaker 2I'm an idiot. There's the bye. Bye too might still be worth it. How much it takes you the rest of your life to load that truck and get rid of them.
Speaker 1But thousand, there we go 2800 pounds. That's better, that's better. So 2,800 pounds times 0.025. This is why we're in the car business folks.
Speaker 2So that's 70 pounds of copper. If 2.5% of the 2,800 pounds is actually copper, maybe not then Times 0.7. Yeah, $259. Never mind, keep your pennies up, take the 50 grand.
Speaker 1Yeah, we put way too much work into that one, so just keep back to taking 50 grand straight up, alright? So let's talk about Thanksgiving. Any traditions in your family?
Thanksgiving Dinner Traditions and Tips
Speaker 2Not really. It usually ends up at our house, which is cool, and second year with the smoker, probably throwing a turkey in there.
Speaker 1Yeah, so normally our tradition is Jake and I go down to a local church Thanksgiving morning. He helps set up the dining room of the church to help feed people Thanksgiving dinner. This church has been doing Thanksgiving dinner for years for the community, completely free. You can eat there. They serve everything out family style so you could end up you know these folks that come in can end up sitting with complete strangers and just having a really good time with one another and then you get a lot of people who will take make orders to go. They'll come pick up their food, go home or we'll deliver. So Jake helps set up the dining room and the cup scouts local cup scout pack actually helps set up the dining room, take plates away, bring napkins, refill drinks. They do it in uniform. They're very cute, adorable. A lot of them are real young and the community as a whole really seems to like seeing that. And I get it. See all these cute little kids running around in cups got uniforms, asking if you'd like a refill on your iced tea and stuff like that.
Speaker 1But before the meals are served, I'm in the kitchen helping carve turkeys. Normally they have like eight or nine turkeys, so I carve turkeys all morning long for them and that takes us to like one or two o'clock in the afternoon. We come home and we chill out and then normally we just go out to dinner Me, my wife, our two kids and her parents. Last couple of years we've been going to Bukka to Beppo and a lot of people go. That's got to be expensive, right? Not like, yeah, it's pricey. But when you factor in the cost of buying your own groceries especially this year with inflation cleaning your house, setup, cooking, all the food time involved, hosting, breaking everything down, cleaning up when it's all done, I might spend an extra hundred to a hundred and a half to go out to a restaurant and have someone else do it all for me and actually sit down and enjoy the meal. Now we always tip well, because these folks are working on Thanksgiving and Bukka to Beppo always has a small Thanksgiving dinner and a large Thanksgiving dinner.
Speaker 1I think the small server, three in the large, serves like eight. I don't get where they get there Serving sizes from, but it's turkey stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and a couple slices of pie. It's really cool and it's all served family style, just like everything else there. For those who have never gone to a Bukka to Beppo. It's an Italian restaurant that serves portions in small or large. A small will feed three people, maybe four people. A large will serve like eight people, but it's full on like pasta dishes, italian fair sea food, so we always get a few pasta dishes, we always get the fish and some appetizers.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's one of my favorite places in this world.
Speaker 1I love Bukka to Beppo for sure. Wow, iowa women's basketball blew out fairly Dickinson like 104 to 4. After a hot start this season, yeah, that Caitlin Clark is special, yeah unless you lost in their season debut, defending champs.
Speaker 1Yep, I saw this highlight of the Notre Dame game. This freshman for Notre Dame literally took the inbound, went coast to coast, did a behind the back dribble and ended up in underlay. And it was just impressive to watch, because there's some pro players that can't do that. There it is. Oh, she was a South Carolina player Around the back, faked out the defender with a pass, switched hands and did a layup With her offhand at that. That was wild.
Speaker 1Women's basketballs come a long way For sure, and I'm just glad to see Notre Dame lose. I hate all things Notre Dame. I hate Notre Dame football, notre Dame basketball. I mean, there are. Women's basketball team has consistently been good for the last few years, but I just I hate Notre Dame, can't stand them. Most overrated college football team ever Ever, followed closely by Texas and USC. That's my top three. Anyway, getting back to the food, so yeah, that's been our tradition the last couple of years. Last year we did Eddie V's. I like Eddie V's. It was a good year, thought I'd take the family out and enjoy really, really good meal and it was a really, really good meal. They do a crazy Thanksgiving dinner. My wife loved the dinner, did like a sage stuffing and some other things, but yeah, so this year I think we're staying home, though yeah, I've been seeing a lot of tiktoks about guys throwing their turkeys on the smoker.
Speaker 2Which would do it first time last Thanksgiving and it turned out good. I went to tweak it a little bit this year, yeah.
Speaker 1But see you doing it last year, our buddy Neil. He's done it a few times. I feel like I got to try my hand at smoking a turk. I'm only going to do the breast. I think that's what we're going to do too. I might get a couple legs if I can find fresh legs. I do not want to get frozen breasts, I want a fresh in the cellophane or whatever that's called Saran wrap wrapper. That's what I'm going to do Brine it Tuesday night when I get home from work. Wednesday I'm going to take it out the brine, Put it on a baking rack with a sheet underneath of it, Season it up and throw it in the fridge to dry brine overnight and then throw it on the smoker the next day. And I think even if I go to the church help out. If I get home about one o'clock I smoke it. For what? Four hours?
Speaker 2I don't think any probably need to smoke it that long Turkey does not take as long.
Speaker 1Especially when you're doing just the breast. Yeah.
Speaker 1With the brine and everything like that too. I think two and a half hours maybe. I have to do a little research. I'm going to pick up the Tony's Asherees Shout out Tony's Seeds, if you know. You know they make an injection seasoned injection kit. So it comes with like a bottle of liquid it's already preseasoned and an injector syringe. I think I'm going to inject the bird as well. Yeah, before I rub it down with a nice rub, I think I'm going to go and pick up the Traders, the turkey rub or the poultry rub. It's really good. Fin and feather. Fin and feather I have some. I think I'm very low on it.
Speaker 2That's a very good rub. Fin and feather is the way to go. They're turkey pellets. They have a specific blend. Okay, it has rosemary in it, a couple other things, and they actually pack it with a brine solution. Oh, okay, cool.
Speaker 1See, you're a trigger guy. I've got a lot of different pellets. I've got a offset smoker rack. You have to use charcoal and wood. What do you suggest? Wood wise.
Speaker 2I wouldn't go anything. That's real strong. So no oak, I'd go. Like pecan, I'll say apple, yeah, apple, give a little sweetness.
Speaker 1Let's go an apple pecan blend.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1I think if I can hold the grill to a 270, 275 temp we should be alright. I'm going to put a pan underneath the bird while it's smoking, catch all those juices running off and give that to my wife to make a nice gravy. So we've done a cookout draft. Let's do a Thanksgiving one, minus the turkey. Turkey's a given, turkey's a given. Even though I'm not a big turkey guy, thanksgiving's a one time a year. While I will partake in turkey, I do actually that's a lie. I do pick up like turkey loins at the Aldi's and John Eagles and throw those in the oven. They're pretty good. I do like turkey. I just don't. I guess I don't like how the word goes into it and how expensive it gets this time of year. Three sides Dinner rolls do not count. They're going to be on the table and we'll just go back and forth. I'll defer to you on the first side.
Speaker 2I'm a sweet potato guy. Okay, love sweet potatoes. Many different ways to make them. My favorite way to make them is you mash the sweet potatoes. You take a medium sized marshmallow in one hand and a handful of sweet potatoes in the other and you put the marshmallow in the middle and form a ball of sweet potato around the marshmallow. Then you take that ball of sweet potato and you roll it around in cornflakes and then you get these like soft ball size balls of sweet potato and you bake them just till the cornflakes get a little crispy and the marshmallow inside melts.
Speaker 1Where did you see this?
Speaker 2I can't even remember. It's been so long. I was a kid when I first had them. It's stuck with me for a while. You season up the mashed sweet potatoes with some brown sugar, cinnamon, that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1Save one for me, if you make one this year.
Speaker 2I will yeah, okay.
Speaker 1Michigan State Park to unraped. James Madison Left them wide open too. Jeez, I'm gonna stick with the sweet potato, but I like mine roasted with some brown sugar and some cinnamon make a nice little glaze. Whatever the case may be, either in like chunks or in like a set of mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar, or stuff like that I could do without. Honestly, the marshmallow topping for an added little crunch, some honey roasted with ponds. I'm cool with that. I'm picturing this. Sweet potato, softball, softball.
Speaker 2Yeah, antonio, yeah, if you happen to make one this year, just let me know. Cut it in half and the marshmallow runs out.
Speaker 1Da fetus. Okay, your next side of choice.
Speaker 2Yeah, stuffing, okay, but I like to use cornbread. Yeah, absolutely To make stuffing, not bread or white bread or whatever.
Speaker 1Okay. So question Do you actually stuff your bird? No, so you make a dress.
Thanksgiving Food and Dessert Discussion
Speaker 2So yes, it is a technically addressing, not stuffing. But I have found recently and you got to get it early, we've already got ours Round about the last week or so of October, first week of November, all these puts out sweet Hawaiian bread stuffing.
Speaker 1Oh, I've seen that, yes.
Speaker 2So wait till a week before, a few days before Thanksgiving, it'll be sold out. Yep, so you got to get it early. We've got our five or eight boxes of it, because don't make it just for a normal Sunday dinner tonight, because it is amazing.
Speaker 1Yeah, we have a few boxes of all these cornbread stuff.
Speaker 2Yes, but one or the other cornbread sweet Hawaiian.
Speaker 1Now do you put unnecessary bullshit in yours.
Speaker 2There is no celery in my stuffing All right.
Speaker 1Good answer. We're dressing, all right, and I do love stuffing or dressing, however you want to refer to it, as I like mine with sausage in it.
Speaker 1I love a cornbread and sausage stuffing, typically on the spicier side. I think it's really good. But since you said stuffing and I feel like I cheated by piggybacking on your soup of potato, but I went more with the mashed, so that's my differentiation I've taken that you took dressing, which is a solid pick. I know people are going to say that's the same as side, the same as side.
Speaker 1Cranberry sauce Let me preface my wife makes a homemade cranberry sauce. She takes the actual, real cranberries, cooks them down as orange juice, other seasonings, some ginger ale or some Sprite, I can't remember. It comes out more like a jam, okay, but you get some whole cranberries in it so you get some texture. Full cranberries bite into it. It's delicious when you put it over top of stuffing because it adds like a sweet tartiness to the rich, savory stuffing. It's great with your turkey. You take it by the map turkey and that again gives you that sweet, savory balance. But if my wife is not in the mood or doesn't want to make it, that's fine. Give me the classic can of ocean spray jelly to cranberry sauce with in the ridged can?
Speaker 2Yeah, because then you got the lines to slice up Right.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, I love cranberry sauce. Giant Eagle or Gego makes a sandwich called the PILBO. It's back, it's on like a cornbread stuffing bun has turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and, I believe, cheese. And it's so good, man, it is very, very good. But yeah, and the last side, what's going to be at the concert park Thanksgiving dinner table? So we got two styles of sweet potatoes, we got cranberry sauce, we got stuffing.
Speaker 2I love my mashed potatoes. Yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, mashed potatoes, or you got to have mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving. Because, not everybody likes sweet potatoes.
Speaker 2What potato are you mashing? You congo, thank you.
Speaker 1You need a rich savory potato, right? I think red skins make a good mashed potato if you leave the skin on, but that's more of a steak potatoes, yeah.
Speaker 2I get most of the skin off when I do the mash, but I leave some of the skin on.
Speaker 1Now, if you make yours real whippy and creamy, I do, but I don't put milk in them.
Speaker 2I put sour cream in them Interesting Sour cream and butter and a mash by hanging with one of those kitchen utensils table.
Speaker 1Yes, yeah.
Speaker 2I don't do. I don't do the mixer.
Speaker 1Yeah, we can. We can't exhaust, but we do know, definitely do milk. I'm not going to lie, we're milk and cream. People in our house have whipping cream, salt pepper, some other seasoning, some other richness to it.
Speaker 2I'll put some Parmesan cheese in.
Speaker 1Yeah, the key though you have to use salted butter. Yes, none of that unsalted.
Speaker 2Yes, Actually, I've become a big fan of almost exclusively by now Carries carry gold butter.
Speaker 1Got some in the fridge right now. Yeah yeah, spreadable, and the most spreadable, I think, just regular salt and butter stuff. Butter is expensive, man. That's why we go out to dinner on Thanksgiving. For my final one, we have to have a vegetable. We do a garlic green bean Like fresh cut green beans, saute them up at your seasonings, at the bacon, add some garlic. You got to have something healthy. Corn honorable mention, canned of course. It was really easy on that sense. I don't know if we have any other aside from corn. I don't think I have any other honorable mentions.
Speaker 2Carrots have become popular for us, like blazed yeah, blazed big carrots, yeah, and I'll usually for special occasion like Thanksgiving, I like to go to Whole Foods. You can get the rainbow carrots, yeah. You got some purple ones and some yellow ones yeah, I'm cool with that, but carrots anytime my dad comes over he has problems with that particularitis. Yeah, so little beans and like corn and stuff like that Well, trigger a flare up. Yeah, not cool. So things like carrots won't give many problems. Yep, for sure, for sure.
Speaker 1Yeah, so we missing anything on the honorable mention list.
Speaker 2We got rolls and all that stuff, yeah, even your Simmons, and some gravy and stuff that goes along with the turkey and the rolls Turkey gravy for both the turkey and the mashed potatoes and the stuffing For sure, dessert Go ahead and say it. I mean, pumpkin pies are pretty much your standard.
Speaker 1Yeah, I know bullshit, but hey, pumpkin pie, nothing beats a good sweet potato pie Sweet potato pie is strong because strong, but we've had a lot of sweet potato in our meals, so maybe we have Fall is a good time for apple pie too, yeah. Yeah, apple, apple pie is a good place to go.
Speaker 2Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure, I'm not sure, just straight up, normal.
Speaker 1I'm going to say I'm a parley, a fan of that chapel from topping, yeah yeah, the local coffee shop, cafe Comigos, partnering with a local pie company who's Doing orders. They've got two choices. First choice is a salt, sick caramel from apple pie, which sounds my wife makes so I would not participate in. Theirs Is a pear cranberry from.
Speaker 2Pairs are often overlooked.
Speaker 1When you, when you want A bite of food that just screams fall, deserve wise. You want to bite Thanksgiving. It just says this is the fall season. My wife's cranberry pear from pie Pear, cranberry from is the quintessential Fuck bite. You get the sweet and and cineminess coming through with each bite that you get. That has the air in it. You get the tart tanginess of Cranberry. The two of them bounce out. You get it in a nice pie, nice crumb topping it is. It is the perfect bite. Mm-hmm perfect bite.
Speaker 2Feel like Thanksgiving's a high holiday. Oh, absolutely, you're gonna see a lot of cake, or?
Speaker 1no, no, christmas is definitely a cookie holiday, because I guess they're just easy to eat mm-hmm but yeah, my opinion. I think Christmas is definitely a cookie holiday. It's typically a holiday, I Think cakes are generally reserved for what's your Macau birthdays? Man.
Speaker 2What a catch.
Speaker 1That was amazing. And Keenan Allen, such an underrated receiver, receives game ball with 10,000 yards. Speaking of, I Don't know if I won my fantasy matchup or not. I Was going up against the guy that was playing, justin Herbert, and and I, breeze hall, was on the up 20 points and I ended up winning. Oh my gosh, I ended up winning the matchup.
Speaker 2Wow, feel like every played a good game, but I don't think screw for a lot of touchdowns. Eckler rush for a couple. They had that pump return right.
Speaker 1Yeah, herbert only put up seven points, 136 path of passing yards, no touchdowns, no picks and breeze all only put up 50 yards, no touchdowns. So with that victory I move into first place in my division. That's great. I'm a game up in the division Six and three on the season. That's awesome. Any other dessert you would think of For Thanksgiving?
Speaker 2pumpkin log. Oh, pumpkin rolls yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, lot of pumpkin BS man. Yeah, I'm a big fan of Thanksgiving, good food, big fan of food, love food.
Speaker 2Yeah, I wouldn't say that's not that I don't like Christmas, but I think that Thanksgiving it's just a easier going holiday.
Speaker 1Yeah, you just show up and eat.
Speaker 2I mean all the prep work that goes into it quick, yeah. But who doesn't love to show up and eat right? There's some football on the tube, yeah.
Speaker 1After years of football games have been lackluster. What's the grade in the morning? My wife's a big family in the east's day parade.
Speaker 2Just a nice relaxing day.
Speaker 1Any but the holidays. Basically here you're gonna get a lot of holiday shows coming on. Are there really any definitively Thanksgiving movies?
Speaker 2I Feel like Hallmark is neglected Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1everyone comes home for Christmas yeah, in their movies or but like even major films, I know, like playing strings in automobiles, I think is around Thanksgiving and they're just trying to get back home, yeah, but I can't think of any other. Any other movies, mm-hmm about Thanksgiving? Yeah, let us know in the comments. Yes, I mean good, oh.
Speaker 2I think you even go from a great pumpkin Charlie Brown to the Charlie Brown Christmas thing, and I think they, yeah, rudolph, and for us D Not too many Thanksgiving stories, no yeah.
Speaker 1I'm, on the whole basis of things, giving is really not a good story. The white man comes and pillages and plunders new land and the Indians quote-unquote, the indigenous people Broke bread with them. I Don't think that's how it went down. I Think the first part pillaging, ponder yeah, maybe some definitely happened to last through the years, but I think they were assisted I think that's assisted by the natives who gave them food to survive over the winter maize Tess. Rumor has it that the first Thanksgiving didn't even have a turkey.
Speaker 2They ate lobsters. It was very seafood heavy off from what I understand or have read. Yeah, being as close to the coast as they were.
Speaker 1So me ordering steak and lobster tail Thanksgiving dinner Probably more historically accurate, cool, cool. I don't want to be an actor to my eating history. Basketball seasons in full swing. Jake went out, is playing on the basketball team this year. Cool, yep. That cannot shoot, no, no, but he's a good defender. You can lock you down. He could stay with you. But I watched practice last night. A lot of them can't shoot and what can't shoot? Consistently well, so they better be able to defend a. Watching them do layups was a Mean. There's seven to eight great boys. I mean by 78, three I was. I had a full repertoire under me. I.
Speaker 2Can't, I can't say much, I couldn't do. It left if you paid me.
Train Travel From Pittsburgh to Philly
Speaker 1Yeah. Well, the thing is, though, we grew up in the golden-ear basketball late 80s, early to mid 90s where three-point shooting Wasn't a big thing, mm-hmm, it was a lot of paint work, mid-range jump shots, finding the open look, picking rolls, screen setting, stuff like that. Now I mean, look, frickin Joel, and being here, did a pump fake, six foot eleven Pump fake from the three-point line, but he took it to the basket and laid it in Again. You got a seven footer Taking the ball out from the top of the key, a couple dribbles in up to the free throw line and it takes a new range. I'm, shocked me. Forty eight, eleven and six assists. That's a great stat line, don't get me wrong, but these kids grown up today are grown up in the era of big men shooting threes, big men running the point, very athletic big men. And Steph Curry, game Lillard, all these guys, just Three bouncing it up past half court.
Speaker 2They hit three-point line and they just, they just chuck away, yeah, but once I shoot the three, yeah you know one of the guys at work you shout out Johnny B is taking his son To a Sixers game this week. Oh yeah, first birthday. That's cool. We were teasing them because the Sixers are playing the Celtics and Kids wearing a Celtics jersey in Philly.
Speaker 1Johnny B don't like his son.
Speaker 2We're pretty, pretty sure the kids gonna be okay, but dad might get beat up. No, that kids get beat up for sure. It means is the city of brotherly love.
Speaker 1They throw batteries at. Yes yeah, they're beating that kid up. Yeah for wearing a Celtics jersey to a yeah.
Speaker 2Pretty cool. They're taking the the train out from Pittsburgh to Philly. Oh yeah, they am trapped yeah.
Speaker 1Nice taking the game. It's not the one to East Palestine, is it?
Speaker 2I don't think so, yeah, it's too cool, yeah, and then Taking some local sites and then come back. What's dope? Yeah, I think they're actually leaving First thing in the morning or tonight, I'm not quite sure.
Speaker 1But yeah, I wonder what a train ticket pause.
Speaker 2We were talking about it working. It was like I can't remember exactly what it cost, but when you factor in the Gas you spend paying for parking and and all that stuff and just Effort of a four-hour drive. I mean it's not like it's that far away, but it actually makes sense.
Speaker 1Yeah, mythbusters to the thing. There's like, if you're within four hours of driving, should you drive or fly? So I can't remember what the end result was, but yeah, so let's hop on the Amtrak website and let's see what's going past me. To go from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, yeah, let's say we're leaving. Let's find a random date, not around a holiday. You know what I mean February 5th, returning on the Can't wait internet, let's do fine shows. So from Pittsburgh to Philly, one One passenger, departing at 528 am, arriving at 3 56 pm. That's a long ride, 79 bucks one way.
Speaker 2To 150 bucks round trip yeah. She best ticket us all 55.
Speaker 1I Feel like you probably spend $100 in gas Gas parking, stopping, food Seems cheap but expensive at the same time, like why is it an 11 hour trip?
Speaker 2And between Pittsburgh and Philly. They probably stop in Harrisburg. I don't know how fast the train moves, and a half past I move on the turnpike.
Speaker 1How fast Passengers train. Generally speaking, the maximum passenger tracks be the most of the country's about 80 miles per hour. Hmm, on some sections of tracks some trains can reach about 50.
Speaker 2There's no way an Amtrak going 150 miles an hour across Pennsylvania how?
Speaker 1fast is an Amtrak between 110 and 145.
Speaker 2You must have some layovers and stops here and there.
Speaker 1So 65 miles per hour is some of the answers I'm seeing. I didn't know. Rails have passenger trains are limited to 59 miles per hour on a track without blocked signal systems, whatever that means.
Speaker 2Alright, so if you go in about 60.
Speaker 1And I guess it's not a straight shot either. Yeah, whereas the turnpikes could work with a straight shot.
Speaker 2So figure what's its speed limit on the turnpike 75. 70.75. Which means you'd probably go in 80.85. More often than not, man.
Speaker 1But I think the train actually does wind. I don't think it's a straight rail system. No.
Speaker 2It'd be worth the experience, I think. I think one time yeah, I don't know if I'd make a habit out of it.
Speaker 1No, but I know people who live in like New York and stuff like that, or Philly. People who live in Philly will train to New York.
Speaker 2Yeah, oh, I'd definitely do that if you wanted to drive in New York, or Philly for that matter.
Speaker 1I've seen a lot of these train things where you can do like a weekend trip that takes you through a bunch of cities and stuff like that. Mm-hmm, select the Pennsylvania, new York, philly, harrisburg, pittsburgh. Nine hours and 20 minutes. So how is it 11 hours from Pittsburgh to Philly?
Speaker 2If you go up to Oil City there's a fall train ride for the trees changing color in the fall Leaves fall tour.
Speaker 1Yeah, I would do something crazy like that, for sure I think you get to ride an open box car.
Speaker 2They have an old fashion diner car.
Speaker 1Oh, that's nice.
Speaker 2Post office on the train.
Miscellaneous Topics and Gratitude Reflection
Speaker 1Oh, that's cool Gift shop, little bar yeah, I would do that, but I would definitely have to get like my own sleeper car or sleeper cabin or whatever they are. I'd prefer 11 hours, probably. Yeah, especially, I'm not sleeping in one of those cars where there's like four other people and you got to sleep up, right, that's not happening. But yeah, I would definitely do a train ride. That'd be interesting. Let's ask the internet a question Would you rather spend the rest of your life in a country music video or a rap music video? Hmm, I don't like country music, but I would do country music video because, yeah, lakes, ponds, streams, creeks, rivers mountains.
Speaker 2The location of the video in the video is probably.
Speaker 1There's probably a dog in some pickup trucks and some fishing gear going on. Yeah, I don't want to spend the rest of my life in a strip club or get shot at. Yeah. Definitely. Yeah, 61% of barstool readers shows country music, but I also think more than 61% of barstool readers hate rap. Oh man, what else is going on this upcoming week? I got nothing.
Speaker 2Hmm, see, marching bands pretty much wrapped up here.
Speaker 1Thanks for reminding me Saturday's veterans they're going to downtown Yep.
Speaker 2That's the last event for the year, until spring. Yep For marching band La Crosse practice is picked up in place of marching band. So La Crosse, yeah, I'm going to talk to her.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's a sport I don't know much about, I just need to show up to one game and see if we'll whack them all with a stick.
Speaker 2Yeah, but she's enjoying it.
Speaker 1Good, good, she's going to see it for her. I think I think so, Like volleyball and soccer.
Speaker 2Basketball, oh, basketball. And what else do we try? Yeah, yeah, I think she's really enjoying this. I think, maybe, maybe she's found a. Oh, that is a. How did he do that? Turf monster got him. So, daniel.
Speaker 1Jones offered the season with the torn ACL against the Raiders, like your standard six step drop. He planted his right knee and he just blew out on a lot of the ground. He just blew out on a lot and he fell.
Speaker 2Yeah, oh, that's just that's. That's crazy. How many ACLs is that this year? A lot Between that and Achilles. Yeah, that's, it's wild.
Speaker 1The leg injuries that this.
Speaker 2And they're all non contact injuries and that's a Rookie quarterback.
Speaker 1Tommy DeVito could make first career start Sunday. I was. I think that's actually Danny DeVito's nephew, or or cause us some sort of. He's like the only healthy Giant son quarterback Matt Barkley to practice what last week. So yeah, Ty Rods on injured reserves for Tommy. He's got a rib thing going on.
Speaker 2I think Yep.
Speaker 1And then Justin Fields got Cost the one game.
Speaker 2Yeah, you got Chicago starting a division to Undraft free agent.
Speaker 1Yeah, I saw the scene where he got pot. It might have been not this past game, but the game before and they had to like DJ Moore like held him back when going into the huddle and was calling over the trainers. I don't know about you, but Tyler Murray looks like uh, looks like a six-year-old who painted a beard on himself. He is short, it's not even the height, it's like the face. The facial features are just. He's got a very, very young face and not in one of those young oh my gosh, it would be 50 and 30.
Speaker 2Like he's beaten Cardi yeah.
Speaker 1He's definitely getting Cardi for milk and happy meals. Pittsburgh minus three At home. Boy, that sucks. That's a push-essential yeah, 60 percent chance of winning the call on it. I don't know. The parody in the NFL this year is weird. It's hard to figure out. It is. I mean you had someone like Eagles lose to somebody.
Speaker 2They should have lost to the Jets, the Jets that's right, and the Jets can't seem to keep anything going. And you've got, but yet they're still right in the thick of the AFC East.
Speaker 1Yeah, and then you've got Buffalo. One week looks like a juggernaut, the following week looks like they don't belong Kansas.
Speaker 2City looks beatable. Miami can't beat a winning team.
Speaker 1The NFC North is wide open with Detroit, Minnesota. The NFC East is getting steamrolled by Philly. The NFC West is weird.
Speaker 2Every team in the AFC North is playoff eligible at this point.
Speaker 1Yeah, currently in the playoffs If the playoffs ended today. Yep, the NFC South is atrocious.
Speaker 2That'll be one of those seven and nine teams that sneaks in Seven and 10.
Speaker 1Yeah, look at LeBron James 37, 38 years old Just bullying people in the paint, down by one with 8.9 to go, kicks it out and the Heat squeaked out a 108-107 victory over the Lakers. The Heat are having oh bam, at a buy-up 22, 20 and 10. Triple-double Heat are having a rough start to the season. But yeah, it's a great time here. You got the holidays, you got hockey's back, basketball's back, nfl's ramping up until it's midseason swing. College football's getting really good, college basketball's starting back up. The San Jose Sharks are terrible. For all of our hockey fans. It's a great time of year, great, great time of year, great time to be thankful. Let's read one more card and let's close it out with a good message. If you had to get a lip-LIP tattoo, what would it say? Hmm.
Speaker 1I don't know what would it say Feed me. Definitely wouldn't get something stupid like insert here. Yeah, no, we're just asking for it at that point. Yeah, I personally think lip tattoos are stupid.
Speaker 2Yeah, I don't know, not my. Thing.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's not a great question, but whatever, it's a question. And the last, for those of you that do have a lip tattoo, let us know what it is. This is a picture or whatever. Freaking Steph Curry is unreal. He just chucks up shots and they just go in 34.7 or 17 from Khlaig Jesus.
Speaker 1But yeah, it's a great time of year to be thankful. Should be thankful every day. Fellas, dads, husbands. Be thankful every day. Be thankful for something. Be thankful for it every single day.
Speaker 1But take this time to really kind of re-sensor yourselves. Be thankful for what you have not wishful, for what you don't Don't be wanting be appreciating. Be thankful that you have a reason and a why that you get up every day and you go work your ass off every single day. You don't give yourselves any breaks. You know you have a family that depends on you, counts on you, that you support, that loves you for everything that you do and for everything that you are not what you're not. Just take time every day to reset yourself and when you wake up Thanksgiving morning and the house is kind of quiet and you're drinking your coffee on your deck or in your recliner, you know. Be thankful for the kids. Be thankful for your spouse, be thankful that you have those people in your life that push you every single day, that love you unconditionally every single day.
Speaker 1Don't wake up wanting better or wanting more or wishing for different things. You know it's good to want better and want more, but not when it's at the sacrifice of what you have. You know what you have right now you don't think is good enough. Look in the mirror. Maybe you need to be doing something better. Maybe you need to be changing your habits and stop putting the blame on your surroundings and your situation and others around you. You know, if you focus on the good and be thankful for what you do have every single day, things naturally do improve. Things naturally do get better. You don't have to hope and wish for overnight change and, you know, a new life. If your home is not good enough, we'll make it better. If you don't like the house you're in, do things around the house to improve it. If you don't like your kids' behavior, we'll work with them on it. Annabelle, is that you? No? All right, you, gee? You got anything to add? Any input, any thoughts, comments, questions, concerns, suggestions for lunch?
Speaker 2Yeah and sticking with the fall season. Why did the Scarecrow win an award? Oh shit.
Speaker 1I wasn't expecting a joke so soon. Why did the Scarecrow win an award? I don't know.
Speaker 2He was outstanding in his field.
Upcoming Episode
Speaker 1Yeah, that gets a trouble. That was actually a good one. I wasn't expecting that for sure, so great way to close it out with a dad joke. We're going to try to get this episode posted here sometime later today and get some social media stuff going. There's Arnold again with that damn donkey.
Speaker 2Looks like a piece of chicken or a cookie of some sort, I don't know.
Speaker 1We need to go ahead and wrap up this episode. We've looped Arnold, that's how we know. We've gone about an hour. Arnold's pop back up. Alright, guys, be thankful, we'll catch you on the next episode. We'll try to record one again here in a couple of weeks, right before Thanksgiving or just after Thanksgiving, and then we'll start talking about Christmas and the fat guy in the red suit, which we definitely have to talk about because there's a viral Christmas letter Exchange between a little boy and Santa Claus. That's just epic. So we'll talk about Christmas in the next episode, maybe start working on Davia's cast. After dark we're just going to go wild and talk about the things that we normally wouldn't talk about. So yeah, we'll catch you guys on the next episode. And again, every single day, go out, be the best dad, best husband, best guy you can be. See ya.
