Ever thought about moving Mother's Day to a quieter month? Join us as we kick off this episode with a lively debate on this very topic, reflecting on the chaos of May with its school events and graduations. Ashley makes a triumphant return after solving some AC issues at her fitness studio, and Trisha and Pam celebrate their graduating seniors. With a mix of heartfelt moments and puppy antics, this segment captures the bittersweet journey of parenthood and the transition to becoming empty nesters.

Have you ever accidentally hugged your nurse practitioner while partially dressed? If so, you’re in good company! We share some hilariously awkward moments from Lisa’s recent gynecologist visit. We also take a lighthearted jab at the gender disparities in medical procedures, pondering why men don’t face similar discomforts. Blending humor with honest reflections, this segment is a candid look at the realities of women's health check-ups.

Teachers make a world of difference, and we pay tribute to extraordinary educators like Ms. Monica Thomas. Reminiscing about school events and quirky traditions, we also share our love for "Modern Family" and brainstorm the possibility of adding video to our podcast. And who knew discussing rodeos could be so entertaining? From bull riding to spotting cute cowboys, we dive into the cultural significance of these events while engaging in a spirited debate about phonetics and accents. It's an episode brimming with laughter, heartfelt stories, and engaging conversations that you won't want to miss!

Hello everyone , and welcome back to another episode of Middle Age-ish . I'm Trisha Kennedy Roman , and I'm joined here today with my co-host , ashley Badazki , lisa Kelly and Dr Pam Wright , and you are joining us for a sofa talk today .

Speaker 3

It's been so long it has . We love sofa talk and Ashley's back this week .

Speaker 5

I know I missed you guys , that's just yeah , no air for my fitness studio Just was not a good combination . Things happen , got to get it fixed .

Speaker 4

Yes , because I love all my clients , but they did not want hot bar .

Speaker 3

No , no , I was like I could offer that .

Speaker 2

None of us want a hot bar .

Speaker 4

Yeah , it's so good to be back . We missed you guys .

Speaker 3

We missed you too . It was fun , though last week . She was fabulous . We had fun , she was fun .

Speaker 4

Yeah , I think that's what's important .

Speaker 3

Yes , did everyone have a good week ? We had Mother's Day . Yes , I heard someone on a podcast today saying that Mother's Day needs to be moved to July because Maycember is the worst month for mothers which is true because you guys are all struggling .

Speaker 4

That is valid because we were just talking about how busy . I mean my kids are a lot older , so you know graduation parties and all of that kind of stuff and just in the school year . I do remember those days , so I think that's a valid yeah . I hate , okay so who do we need to petition ?

Speaker 3

Apparently , there's a petition to move it to July . I'm on for that . In Ireland it's March , that's right . You always scare me because you wish your mom a happy .

Speaker 2

Mother's Day , I'm like uh-oh , and then I realize you're on for it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , no , it's March .

Speaker 2

It's March there , yes you know , what I just realized , ashley didn't childproof herself , so these always keep wrapped , so your leg , because every time your leg .

Speaker 3

Ashley , it's Hallie . She's eating the wires . Okay , dog is eating the wires . This is very bad puppy behavior .

Speaker 4

Yeah , everybody , we have the most amazing puppy friend here with us .

Speaker 3

Yes , we do .

Speaker 4

And I will say that that was not my mistake .

Speaker 3

That was Hallie . Hallie is literally sitting here eating my laces . She moved from the wires to my dress and to my laces , so we have a puppy alert .

Speaker 5

Puppy alert . Lisa's dress is getting demolished by the dog .

Speaker 4

Yes , Okay , well , I say that we petition to move Mother's Day . I think that's fabulous . March or July , who cares ?

Speaker 5

It's just not me .

Speaker 4

Once school's out and there's not a million things going on , I mean just even my friends who have like little , like it's not even graduation little ones Like they're just stressed . Yeah , yeah , it's crazy , yeah , I know .

Speaker 3

School's out for summer . I can't wait Almost .

Speaker 4

I used to love that . I mean , like I said , my baby is in it more . Seven more days , so crazy .

Speaker 2

Well , I don't have seven more days . My baby's graduating on Friday . I know so sad . Yes , I can't believe it .

Speaker 5

But he's so accomplished , I know I'm so proud of him as you should be .

Speaker 1

He leaves next month , good job , Mom For the Air Force Academy , so really excited .

Speaker 2

It was really cool too , because they had the baccalaureate and they had somebody from the Air Force Academy come and give them a certificate of appointment at baccalaureate and I was very , very proud .

Speaker 3

His list of accomplishments are insane .

Speaker 2

I was reading all through his accomplishments .

Speaker 3

Looking at my children going oh my God .

Speaker 5

He's always been there , I give you that ? Yes , exactly , he's always been there , greg , you've got to step it up .

Speaker 2

He's pretty amazing . I'm proud of him , but I can't believe that he's graduating and then McKenna's following right afterwards . One more week , corbin and McKenna both graduating . I swear .

Speaker 4

it feels like it was just yesterday . I know Like with my boy . Like literally like it feels like it was yesterday and 26 and 23 . So , as crazy as the time is , just soak it up because it goes so fast .

Speaker 5

So so all my clients are like the whole empty nester thing . Did you have that Like where you were sad , crying upset ? A lot of people do .

Speaker 4

Right , and I didn't I mean I what was hard for me when I , when we took Steven , cause you know he played football at coastal Carolina and so he graduated in 2016 . And so me coming home was really stressful for me . Um , but then I don't know , like with the first one , like with Trey , you know he's in UAB at Birmingham and so you know he's closer um , but I mean , I always kind of I don't know , this is probably not going to come across properly , but you know , go figure with me .

Speaker 4

But um , what we were talking about before , we got married right out of college I was 22, . You know , I had Steven at 25 , Trey at 28 . And so , like that was , that was Michael in our lives for so long and so , like our kids joke all the time , 're like I swear you guys have more fun now that we're gone and um so for us ?

Speaker 4

you miss them , you love them , you . But it's kind of nice to date your hubby again . You know we've been together for 30 years that's it absolutely um and so yeah , like I just I don't . I'm not one of those that I mean .

Speaker 4

Again , of course you miss your children , but I do love having this next chapter for us , yeah I mean it's just , it's really nice because we're the we're different people than we were all those years ago , and so you get to kind of re-establish a relationship that's back to being more just you and your partner or your spouse or whatever , and uh , yeah , it's really fun , like I was telling you guys , like I don't want to do anything on the weekends , I want to go hang out with him on my back porch and my naughty , naughty dogs , and so , yeah , I'm , yeah , I'm probably on the other side of that spectrum as far as , yeah , you miss your kids , but I don't sit and cry .

Speaker 2

So Trisha and I will be crying Well you can have your moments Because I won't get to talk to him for almost two months . That's a hard thing .

Speaker 5

That is a hard thing no 1,000% .

Speaker 4

Like I said , it's easy for me because I mean Stephen's now 26 and living his great life in Kansas . City and Trey's 23 . So like I've come through all of that stuff , but , it is fun when it's just you and your hubby . Yeah

Awkward Gynecologist Visit and Friendship

Speaker 4

.

Speaker 2

Okay , so what are you going to tell us about the gynecologist ?

Speaker 4

Oh , okay , we've got probably a super personal based on Lisa's reaction .

Speaker 2

Is this a nod on air ?

Speaker 3

This is okay , so uh-oh I was like this is great .

Speaker 4

We're super open and honest . This has to be Classic Lisa .

Speaker 3

This is classic Lisa . Oh , no , okay , I know we've spoken about this before that I'm incredibly introverted and I am like , as much as I come across as being an extrovert , I'm really not , and I find certain situations really uncomfortable . So , obviously , going to the gynecologist nobody enjoys that .

Speaker 1

And can I ?

Speaker 3

just also say if men had to do a pap smear like we have to do a pap smear , they would have anesthetic . There is no way they'd be awake for it .

Speaker 4

There's no way but they have to have the prostate yeah , I would take that any day over the speculum .

Speaker 3

I mean , I don't even know about that Any day , any day , and I thought they'd gone to plastic ones , but they haven't . So anyway , neither here nor there . I'm really hoping the gynecologist doesn't listen to this podcast .

Speaker 4

I'm really looking forward to this .

Speaker 3

So I went in and it's a nurse practitioner , the lady I go to , she . So I went in and it's a nurse practitioner , the lady I go to , she's very , very nice . So I was , like you know , very excited about going to see her and but I haven't had a pap smear in three years . So I was like , okay , so I go in . I mean , she , you know , they did all that . My , my blood pressure was through the roof , obviously because I was anxious , even though I'm on blood pressure meds . So I was like , okay , well , this is a great start .

Speaker 3

So I went into the room room . The room was quite small , very hot as well , and like I hate being hot . So they give you the gown and have my lovely gown on and I folded my clothes and I put them beside me on the stool and I put my shoes on the floor . So she comes in and she was in great form and she was like full of chat and she chatted the whole time . Oh wow , she was talking the whole time . So anyway , we got through all that and everything was done and everything was great , fabulous , happy days .

Speaker 3

She had taken the stool in the meantime . She had needed the stool , so she moved my clothes over to the other side of the room . So when she was finished she was still talking to me and we were , like , you know , yapping . But I had to go to work and I was like , so I hopped off the table and I went over to get dressed and I'm trying to put my clothes back on discreetly as she's talking to me . And then she realized she's still there while I was trying to get dressed and I'm pulling up my underwear and they're like kind of half up , when I realized my shoes were behind her , so stupidly , I reached around to get my shoes . I reached around to get my shoes . Oh no , it's worse , it's worse .

Speaker 5

Oh no , oh God . I reached around to get my shoes and she thought I was going in for a walk . Oh no , oh my gosh . So she hugged me back . Oh my gosh , that's so awkward . Oh , I'm so hot again . I'm standing there and she's like patting . Oh , I'm so hot again . I'm standing there and she's like patting me and I'm like where is she going to pat me my underwear half on ? Oh my gosh , I know we're close and I know you've seen parts of me that probably nobody else has seen , but I'm like oh my gosh , oh my gosh .

Speaker 5

What was the conversation that she thought you needed the hug ? She thought I was saying goodbye . Oh my gosh , what was the conversation that she thought you needed the hug ? She thought I was saying goodbye .

Speaker 3

Oh my , I literally wanted to die it was a lovely hug and I probably needed it because I was so anxious .

Speaker 5

So maybe she was like you're so anxious .

Speaker 2

Oh my gosh , that's hilarious .

Speaker 4

That sounds like something that happened to me . That's funny . Oh my God , that actually is like an SNL skit .

Speaker 3

I can't ever go back .

Speaker 2

She was back there telling the staff oh my gosh , she just hugged me and she hugged me , and as I was leaving .

Speaker 3

She was in the office . I was I was , you know , checking out at the checkout , but I couldn't see her office and I'm like saying goodbye to the checkout lady and next welcome from her office . I hear her . Goodbye , sweetie you . You guys bonded on undies half up .

Speaker 5

Oh my god so next time you go , god bless the hug , the hug it's what a job . It's gonna be an everyday thing .

Speaker 4

I mean every time that is yeah yep , what a job like I just as we've talked about multiple times , whenever there's something that's super uncomfortable , a man , all right , and our male listeners , this is we're not saying anything different , I mean but , or , you know , trying to insult anybody , but you know that you're right Like a man , like a mammogram oh yeah , who in the ever loving you know what , okay , they can . You know what , okay , they can you can go for , and now dr pam and trisha too , probably . But like you can have an mri cat scan like that , you can literally see inside , but you have to for a mammogram , you still have to go and plop your boob .

Speaker 5

Yeah , on the train this last week trisha had the most like awful experience with that , like painful , I know I feel like a man still is in charge of that yeah , because otherwise I mean seriously , who did we piss off ? In a previous .

Speaker 4

I mean there's got to be a better way there has to be , because now , like literally , you go into a machine . They can live like you have to . They can tell you you can't breathe so deep because it's impacting the visual , but yet your boob , you still have to go have it smushed , squeezed . I think it's crazy .

Speaker 3

But even the smear test there has to be like , there has to be another way to relax everything so that they can do that as opposed to what they use . And men , if you've never , if you've never had a woman tell you what they use , you need to go and look it up . Well , I mean , it's medieval , it's like a torture device . It is medieval .

Speaker 4

It really is . I'm a good patient .

Speaker 3

I'm not like I'm not squeamish about stuff , I don't really care , yeah , but like there has even the fact that they have to twist that .

Speaker 5

Yeah , I'm telling you it's medieval , it's like what is that , what was that thing ?

Speaker 4

The rack . Yeah , yeah , yeah , the rack Just twist . I'm telling you , I'm telling you , I don't know , I don't know .

Speaker 3

At least you got a hug at the end .

Speaker 5

I did get a hug . I did .

Speaker 3

Oh , I know , and what if she wasn't a hugger and she thought that ?

Speaker 2

oh , the thoughts that went through my head , but she was . So , All right . So we've , you know we've had . We had a few questions from our listeners .

Speaker 1

I know . Thank you guys .

Speaker 2

Yes , so one question that I've had people asking and we have answered this , but I don't think it made it on air . I think it was actually cut , probably some extra stuff with it . So of how we all met . Let's talk about how we all met .

Speaker 3

So Pam and Lisa and I had kids together at school for a very long time .

Speaker 2

So I've known you guys forever .

Speaker 3

I didn't actually meet Pam until in here in the office . Because I think my kids are a year ahead of yours , and then our kids are the same . Yes , but Kyle and Natalie weren't in the same school , no , and I met you at a function in your old building I went to an open night there , and that's where I met you first so I guess , yeah , so I guess you guys met recently so when this came about I've known you forever yes , so I've known ham forever , lisa Forever .

Speaker 3

And then I met Ashley doing Pure Bar .

Speaker 4

Yeah , she came up to me .

Speaker 3

Yes , I came to her studio .

Speaker 4

Yeah came up to me and said like hey , it's something I mean , I didn't even really remember it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I was like listen . I think you'd be really good for this podcast that we're doing .

Speaker 4

I thought I was just coming in to be interviewed .

Speaker 2

So yes . Here we are . So they were asking , like , how we came up with podcasts . So the and I've said this before I think this was not in any of the actual published podcasts . That's funny . We have . We have a lot of . We have a lot of .

Speaker 3

We have a lot of years really , like I mean , I know you a long time .

Speaker 2

Yeah , a very long time , but the middle-aged name came up from my son calling me middle-aged . And I was kind of offended and like wait , that's awesome , I'm going to do something with that . But I had no idea what . And then I thought of the podcast , and then I talked to Lisa because I was like Lisa it'd be fun to do this with .

Speaker 1

And then I was like we need a psychologist . I got one of those .

Speaker 2

We know Pam , and then I told Lisa we need somebody like in fashion or fitness . And lo and behold , she knew somebody who was in both .

Speaker 3

So that's where .

Speaker 4

Ashley came in .

Speaker 2

Yes , I worked out well and the very first time we got together and how Sofa Talk kind of evolved , was that ? Oh my gosh , chris , lisa's used to being in front of a microphone , and actually Pam too , but we were set up for a recording and so they walked in and we did episode one .

Speaker 4

I literally walked in and was like I think I'm going to have a panic attack and I don't have those . And I was just like , can I quit now Like this ? I'm so uncomfortable , yeah .

Speaker 5

That's been so much fun .

Speaker 3

I think I don't know if we said it before but I think the benefit of it of it was that we didn't really know each other very well , and I've I've always said that even with Celtic woman we didn't know each other either . Like we met each other the first night that we recorded it , so we spent no time together . So I think the beauty of that is you get to know people Absolutely , so your questions are genuine .

Speaker 4

Yeah , and very spontaneous it's always important . It's an amazing little .

Speaker 2

Well , I think that's one thing too is I love how even our podcast , where we have guests , we don't rehearse questions . Everything is just on the phone and people ask ask me , like my friends that listen to it , that they always like .

Speaker 4

Can't tell me that you guys don't you know , don't rehearse or don't like plan out your questions .

Speaker 2

I'm like no , I had no idea . Lisa hugged her gynecologist with her underwear half on , exactly a thousand percent guys .

Speaker 4

That is totally new news , new news awkward new nudes . Oh , my God , oh and here is our Lisa . Oh , my God , I'm just going to giggle about that one for a while , all right . So here's another question we have .

Speaker 2

So that's how , that's how we all met . I know Pam for years , lisa for years , ashley , more recent , but we all , we all had our little insights to give and it's working out all right .

Speaker 4

So , besides , lisa , have any of you performed publicly ? Well , that just depends . Perform how . I mean , if you're talking dancing on a bar , absolutely . If you're talking about riding a bull at the end of the rodeo , yes sir . If you talking Ashley's like , yes , grammy winning performance , like our Lisa not yet um , no , yeah , just not yet it's on the way . Yeah , yeah , it's coming . I mean yeah , no . So yeah , dancing on a bar and writing a bullet , there's .

Speaker 5

Ashley yes , performances Pam yeah , I mean back in the day , yes , singing , dancing , cheering , all that , but yeah , recently , no , no , no , no , definitely not .

Speaker 2

I dance . I was a dancer for a long time but , yeah , um , my mom , I wasn't a singer . My mom told me remember she was like you don't think you're really good at singing do you ?

Speaker 1

oh my gosh , so no , so I definitely .

Speaker 2

I used to sing the choir . I thought it was kind of decent , but apparently , apparently , so it's okay , I , I thought . I was kind of decent , but apparently I wasn't that's okay , I got picked . I was really excited I got picked for a solo .

Speaker 1

I was Shirley Temple and I did a little dance , a little tap dance for my little sailor suit , oh my .

Speaker 2

God , I think I was picked because I was short , because I don't think I was a good singer .

Speaker 4

Oh sure , but I could Find that out . On Girls .

Speaker 5

Weekend . Yeah , girls Weekend , we're going to do karaoke .

Speaker 2

Yeah we'll see how it goes , so okay . So who came up with Sofa Talk ? I think it's just because we were sitting around it evolved . Yeah , it just kind of evolved because we would sit and talk and half of it never made it onto recording .

Speaker 4

You're like no , no , we have to record that yes .

Speaker 1

And we didn't have a guest one night and we were like this is just as good .

Speaker 3

It's a lovely top guest . It's a lovely guest too , but it's really nice to just chat among yourselves because that's what it's about I know , Cause it's random , you never know which way it's going .

Speaker 2

What do your families think of the podcast ?

Speaker 4

My husband loves it Cause I make him listen to it because I don't listen to myself and I'm always like , okay , you need to tell me if I sound like an idiot , which is mostly all the time . But he thinks it's hilarious .

Speaker 5

Yeah , yeah my mom listens , she listens all the time .

Speaker 2

Same .

Speaker 3

He listens to it , my husband has never listened to a podcast of anybody . He can't do it , he can't .

Speaker 4

I've never listened to a podcast Like . That's why when you asked me , I was like what he ?

Speaker 3

can't . It's so funny to me because he's the most focused person I know , but he cannot listen . I'm like every time Because he spends hours and hours and hours traveling every week . I'm like put on a podcast . I can't , lisa , I can't listen to him . He's like I have enough voices in my head .

Speaker 5

I just say my head , I was like he needs a break .

Speaker 4

He needs a break . I could probably run into that .

Speaker 3

And listen . Knowing him , he must talk to himself all the time and then tell me he told me .

Speaker 2

Oh my God , that's the worst . So you know we were talking about

Importance of Teachers and Fun Memories

Speaker 2

that . I was super proud of Corbin baccalaureate and seeing his accomplishments and stuff . And one thing is obviously important is like our coaches , our parents . I think parents are kind of important . I hope I contributed to that , but teachers as well , I think teachers .

Speaker 1

I'm really grateful for teachers . I don't know how they do it .

Speaker 2

Um , but what is kind of cool is that I'm going to call it a teacher , who's an amazing teacher , but Ms Monica Thomas .

Speaker 3

So I . She is the best .

Speaker 2

So Pam and I have all had her as a teacher for our kiddos and she's one of those teachers that just sticks out as an amazing teacher and made a big impact on our kiddos and you can tell All the kids go back to see her and now she's a grandma . Yes .

Speaker 5

First-time grandma . She's awesome , though , so cute .

Speaker 2

So thank you , Ms Thomas , for being an amazing teacher . And congratulations on your grandbaby that grandbaby's going to be so spoilt .

Speaker 3

Teachers are so important .

Speaker 4

They are so important they really are and they really do put up with a lot of stuff , especially nowadays . Michael's been in education his entire life when he got out of football and just yeah , the stuff that oh my gosh I cannot do it , it's crazy . Do you guys have a teacher that you didn't like ? Yep , it's just , it's crazy . Do you guys have a teacher that you didn't like ? Yeah , you know , I asked the question cause I totally had one .

Speaker 3

Oh my God , I had a few .

Speaker 4

I only had one . She was my 6th grade teacher . Yeah , awful .

Speaker 2

I have way more . That I did love . I stuck in contact with a lot of my elementary school teachers . I had one that hit me so bad . We talked about field day , so we had a field day . My older sister , that was the coolest thing in the whole world . I was in 4th or 5th grade and she was out of school . So she came and brought me this huge bag of candy . And I was my older sister , that was like the coolest thing in the whole world . I was in like I don't know , fourth , fifth grade , something like that , and she was out of school . So she came and brought me like this huge bag of candy which I was giving to all my friends . But the teacher took it from me and said if I didn't have like one piece of the same for every student , that I couldn't have it .

Speaker 1

It's really annoying .

Speaker 2

Because I was very excited about my sister getting to .

Speaker 3

So I don't like that teacher . Yeah , I know that's so funny . I just had a thought there when you said field day In Ireland , when we say you know , if you had a good time you always go . Oh , she had a field day .

Speaker 5

That's funny . That must be where that comes from .

Speaker 3

Yeah field day . Okay , oh , they had a field day , which meant you had a great one .

Speaker 2

I'll tell you what you throw me down a I'm on it .

Speaker 5

Potato sack yeah , or the potato sack the egg and spoon race .

Speaker 3

Oh yeah , yes .

Speaker 5

Yep , tug of war , yep , oh , we did tug of war too . And the three-legged race .

Speaker 4

Three-legged . What's the potato sack ? The dunking booth , oh yes , the dunking booth , oh yeah .

Speaker 3

We didn't have those .

Speaker 2

I was terrified that were in it so it was super funny .

Speaker 4

The pie , pie in the face . Yeah , the pie in the face .

Speaker 2

I had to kiss a pig one time , for I think it was a court warming .

Speaker 3

Oh , my gosh Remember . I went to town from Missouri .

Speaker 2

We were in the middle of cornfield .

Speaker 3

We had barn warming . Every time you say that , I think of Cam in Modern Family .

Speaker 5

I know .

Speaker 4

So true , I freaking loved that show that was so true .

Speaker 3

I mean Loved that show .

Speaker 4

Oh my gosh , I still watch the reruns and they're so freaking funny .

Speaker 3

So funny . He is just , Eric Stonestreet is just , and the guy who plays Mitchell now I can't remember his name . Oh my God , they're just so talented , so talented .

Speaker 4

I just thought that entire cast was amazing .

Speaker 3

Yeah , they were fabulous .

Speaker 2

I mean amazing yeah , they were , I mean I mean oh my god okay , so we got another question so this is one we we get all the time and at some point trisha's gonna have to actually get herself together . So everyone's , everyone's video . I know which . Everything is usually videoed , or a lot of things are videoed , but I really like not . I like being frazzled and not not put together yeah , I don't know .

Speaker 3

I think it ruins the element of surprise . If you have a video .

Speaker 4

I don't know if we did it every so often . I think it would be kind of With advanced warning . Well , of course , otherwise .

Speaker 2

I have to get a spray tan .

Speaker 5

I got to get my spray tan on , I've got to get the right hair , I mean it's going to be a production .

Speaker 2

Yes , I mean it's going to be a production . Yes , lord , so that in the works , maybe at some point , maybe At some point That'd be fun yeah .

Speaker 4

Yes , I mean not every time .

Speaker 5

No .

Speaker 2

I agree , no , but I don't know , but watching Lisa reenact her pedagogy visit . I do think that there's moments .

Speaker 3

Because , like you know , if you catch my facial when you start talking about polygamy or whatever , but then I can't do opposite signs when I'm saying something that I'm supposed to be nice about and I'm going that's true that is true , I love Lisa , but I kind of said that Trisha can still edit .

Speaker 2

Yes , that's true . Oh Lord , I don't want to edit a video too , okay , so here's some more . If you all would go we talked about going away together . Where would we want to go ? Vegas . We're all still rooting . Ireland , oh Ireland obviously , Obviously yes .

Speaker 3

To find the leprechauns . I'm going to go find the leprechauns .

Speaker 4

Drink the Guinness . Did you see that there's a ? I mean , can I dance on the bar there ? Yeah , yeah .

Speaker 5

Hello .

Speaker 4

With a leprechaun , I mean .

Speaker 3

I mean , come on , and it's a bet , it's set in Ireland and it's an American and an American podcaster actually in Ireland and he's trying to discover these people went missing down in Cork and he's trying to figure out what happened to them .

Speaker 3

And there's a journalist and I haven't really figured out what's going on . But they bring the American to a bar and the American's like , oh my god , this is like , this is the most amazing thing ever . And the girl who's's from Dublin , she's like for God's sake , let's just get out of here . And she brings him to a proper bar . But in the middle of it there's this guy who's pivotal in the whole storyline , but I still haven't figured out what he does . But he stands up to sing and she looks at the American and she goes . This does not usually happen , no , it doesn't Okay .

Speaker 4

well then we can go .

Speaker 3

Oh no , you'll love it . I'll bring you to all the tourist homes .

Speaker 4

We need to go .

Speaker 3

Yes . That would be so much fun , that'd be fun we have some more questions , but we'll do them the next segment .

Speaker 4

Yeah , yes , so keep listening , we'll throw in your questions , keep sending in your questions , keep sending in questions . I mean , I think that's really fun .

Speaker 2

Yeah , anything . Or ? Miss thomas gave us a comment , so we just gave her a shout out because she's an amazing , love her god , monica . So I'll give you a , would you rather ? Oh ?

Speaker 3

here we go ?

Speaker 2

would you rather be stuck in a romantic comedy with your worst enemy or in a horror movie with your best friend ? Horror ?

Speaker 3

movie horror yeah , best friend yeah yeah , that's the only way I would survive it oh , we wouldn't be able to fake it , we wouldn't be funny , well , well , we all know that I can't fake this , so a rom-com with an enemy of mine would . To many shows with enemies Would probably well yeah , it would not work .

Speaker 4

Yeah , okay , and I don't even really like scary movies anymore .

Speaker 3

I don't watch horror movies anymore . I mean , I loved them when I was younger . Oh no .

Speaker 4

I think we talked about that before Freddy Krueger .

Speaker 5

Yeah , those are cute . I could do those .

Speaker 4

but Mike Myers , the Exorcist that scared the bejesus out of me .

Speaker 5

Oh yeah , I would have been in seventh or eighth grade when we watched it . Do you remember Poltergeist , oh my . And then everybody in that cast like died early . I mean .

Speaker 1

I'm stuck . It was weird . It's based on a real house Speaking of real things you know .

Speaker 2

So Lake Lanier freaks me out a little bit .

Speaker 4

Yeah , it should freak you out , yeah .

Speaker 2

And there's a . I got to find the show because you guys like there's actually . I mean there's a lot of different shows on it , but there was a show on like strange things . It was really . It was freaky . When we first came around , I loved Lake . We went there for the July and now I'm like , no , Was it about that ?

Speaker 3

No , it's a whole city underneath us . Yeah , they're like literally .

Speaker 5

Oscar .

Speaker 2

Town or something , oscarville , oscarville .

Speaker 3

Oscarville yeah .

Speaker 4

And how many , like they've had so many deaths on that lake . I like Trakeesian death .

Speaker 3

My dad does not believe me . I keep telling him this and he doesn't believe me .

Speaker 2

I'm like a big lake , so there's a lot of people , so there's a lot of people . There's dust , but I'm freaked out I don't know .

Speaker 4

There's like a lot of big lakes in the us yeah I just don't .

Speaker 3

I mean I like to look at a lake . I'm never going on a boat .

Speaker 4

I hate being on boats really , oh , my god , I love . No , I don't get in , I don't get in the water .

Speaker 3

No , I don't get in the water either , but in the ocean I don't mind going out in a boat for like half an hour , but like if you're stuck there all day . I'm like oh my gosh , I love a good pontoon boat .

Speaker 2

And you just yeah Like oh my gosh , I think it's .

Speaker 4

I think it's amazing . We do our July 4th and we go back to my hometown with , you know , with one of my just dearest high school friends and her husband and their friends and all that stuff , and we go to Table Rock Lake .

Speaker 2

I know Table Rock .

Speaker 4

Lake . I know I love being on the water , but I'm also a water sign .

Speaker 3

So I'm not , I'm a bull .

Speaker 4

You're a fire sign , speaking of bulls ?

Speaker 2

Uh-oh , so bulls have come up twice . I've got to get this , would you rather ? I just thought it was going to go . All right , sorry . All right , because Josh is talking about her starring in Riding Bulls and Bars . Yeah , exactly

Rodeo, Cowboys, and Southern Accents

Speaker 2

so . Would you rather be the person riding the bull or the clown that distracts the bull ?

Speaker 4

Oh person riding the bull , yeah me too .

Speaker 5

Yeah , riding , what is that question ?

Speaker 3

Have you guys seen a rodeo ?

Speaker 2

No , when people , how have you for eight seconds . Then you ride the bull and then there's a no , no .

Speaker 3

I've seen the mechanical one in .

Speaker 2

LA , oh my goodness .

Speaker 4

Have you ever seen ?

Speaker 1

a cowboy . No , not in real life , not in real life .

Speaker 3

I would say , not real life Only .

Speaker 2

Matthew , we grew up with cowboys , like if you weren't if you don't remember , I've never , seen a cowboy ?

Speaker 4

cowboy , no , I've never seen , and I know Wrangler jeans and some boots I have you should see my belt buckle because I have .

Speaker 2

I have the Wranglers , I have the belt buckle .

Speaker 3

I am telling you , oh my god , I'm with you on this one . I have not . No , we don't have cowboys in Ireland and in rodeos and well , there's a lot of different events .

Speaker 2

But , like you , ride the bull with the horns and you have to stay on for so long , and then there's a clown that like distracts the bull and the person gets thrown off and tries to save him from getting caught . You should watch . Is it 8 seconds ?

Speaker 4

8 seconds you gotta watch that . It's a true story .

Speaker 2

It's very sad it's based on a true story . What's his ?

Speaker 4

name . Yeah , he loves his hair . Luke Perry . Yeah , luke Perry . But who was anyway ? Wait , what happened ?

Speaker 2

I assume he died . We'll have to watch obviously .

Speaker 4

Yeah obviously he died . Okay , Patricia , I feel like we have to educate the cowboys , Okay ? So I want to hear this .

Speaker 5

But here's the thing I get that , but I don't get the running with the bulls .

Speaker 2

And then people are upset when they get like , like in Imagine or whatever .

Speaker 5

Yes , when they're just running and they're just like oh , suddenly the bull is after them and they're all upset that they got Gored . Yes , and you're like you're a cruel . Like why would you do that ?

Speaker 4

right , no .

Speaker 5

So that'll get , but the rodeo is probably different .

Speaker 2

Rodeos are fun . I mean , I grew up with rodeos , oh my gosh , I grew up riding horses , so but rodeos are like experience and we have bowls in Ireland , but I don't think A big shot of whiskey and funnel cakes .

Speaker 4

I love funnel cakes . And you see some really cute cowboys .

Speaker 5

Okay , yeah , interesting . Good to know . That's what we should do for our girls night .

Speaker 4

A rodeo . I don't think there's one around here . We would have to go .

Speaker 3

There is one I know because one of my students sings at it .

Speaker 4

We'd have to go to Arizona or . I know because , one of my students sings at it , we'd have to go to .

Speaker 2

Arizona or .

Speaker 4

Texas , or proper one Missouri , houston , oklahoma , texas , yeah .

Speaker 3

I'm sure there's Georgia rodeos too . We aren't in a cowboy kind of area . There's one in gay Georgia yeah .

Speaker 4

Well , I know there's one in Wadawi , alabama , because that's where we used to have our lake house and they would have one every July 4th .

Speaker 5

Wow , things you don't know .

Speaker 2

Yeah , no .

Speaker 4

Well , Dally's a funny name , I know it was so funny , my dad , because , you know , my parents were born and raised in Georgia and so when we were looking at lake homes we wanted one that was closer to us and not , you know , and like literally an hour and 15 minutes from like my front door to the house . And my dad , like we were driving down one time and he's like , well , you know , I always thought it was we do we , we do we ? I mean because , no , granted , my family does like phonetically spell and say things and I was like what he goes ? Oh , for the longest time I thought it was we do we ? Oh , that would be cute , I know .

Speaker 2

I was like dowie , I know , know . But dowie , that's something I've always thought about . But you know , you said phonetically Mm-hmm . I think it's the dumbest saying that phonetics is spelled with a P-H , because it's not phonetically Phone . Yeah , but you know what phonetics is like spelling out a great sound , yeah , so it would be an . F .

Speaker 5

So it yeah , but P-H as in .

Speaker 3

F , though , but not phonetically . Not phonetically . This is like but yes , it is , it is . Yeah , it's like phone is P-H-O-N-E and phony is P-H . I know , but that's what you're saying it should be an F .

Speaker 4

It should be an F , no , it should be . Listen .

Speaker 3

I teach a Japanese girl on a Friday night and she is like literally one of the best singers I've ever heard in all my life . She can't speak a word of English and so , but every song she wants to do is in English , so it's literally an English class for me . And the words God bless her Like she . She looks at me and I'm like , yeah , no , I know that's how it's spelled , but that's not like so tear and tear . She's like why are they different ? Right , I don't know what to tell you .

Speaker 4

Okay , so I have a question for you why , like when I hear singers from different countries , but they don't have an accent ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , you're not supposed to have an accent when you say it .

Speaker 2

Okay , but how does that happen ? So whose accent is it ?

Speaker 3

It's British , it's like it's a British accent . So the universal kind of sound is to kind of stick with a British sound .

Speaker 4

Yes , everybody sounds similar is to kind of stick with a British sound .

Speaker 3

So most people train classically . And when you train classically you learn that way . So that's like putting your hands the right way on the piano . So when you learn and most people sing in chorus , so chorus is all about the vowels . So all the vowels sound the same , no matter where you are Like , all our vowels sound the same . But when you go into something like country and even irish music , so irish music they're gonna sound irish country , music's gonna sound country .

Speaker 4

So that's where the accents come in but keith urban , who's from australia you don't hear him ? You don't hear him . So I've actually always wondered when you hear like these artists speak at like an interview and you're like holy cow yeah , they're not supposed to sound .

Speaker 3

That's amazing . Yeah , it is . It's kind of amazing .

Speaker 4

I mean , it really is .

Speaker 3

So okay , but you're right , that's exactly it . Yeah , that's exactly the story .

Speaker 2

There's a couple . That makes sense . It's like British , because there's a couple . I can't even think right now , but I hear wondered that when I've heard it , there's certain things that are really distinct .

Speaker 3

What's funny for me here in the South is because you use so many syllables when you say things .

Speaker 3

So the kids at the moment there's a big , there's a few things that the kids do at the moment and one of the songs I'm doing at the moment is the word feelings , feelings . But they don't say feel as one syllable . They all say feel . So when you say , when they're singing , they say feelings . I'm like no , you can't do that . It has to be fee lings , but they can't like . That's the big one . And the other one which drives me mad is the str . They all say straighten and straight . Yeah , all of them . It listened to the kids straighten street .

Speaker 3

And then I noticed somebody the other day say uh , when they say christian , they say christian as well , so like it's obviously a southern thing , because I haven't heard like any of the kids that I have from anywhere else in the country don't do it .

Speaker 4

Yeah , they put . I think that's a southern thing because I know , like my aunt , um my dad's sister , like she had called me a couple of times when I was in college , answering machine , um , just to say hello , and like my roommates thought that it was the funniest thing on the planet . I mean I could have sold tickets because she would be like Ashley , Ashley , oh , hey , darling , I mean it was so , so that's so funny because she literally could take .

Speaker 4

Hey Ashley , hey darling , hope you're doing well . Just wanted you to know that your aunt loves you have a great day , but it would take five minutes . Yeah , that's so funny , so all of my roommates like if they got it before I got home they would all be sitting around the kitchen counter just giggling Like oh , and I'm like . Oh , my God , did Aunt Cherry call they're like she sure did darling .

Speaker 5

That's so funny , so cute . I know I love it .

Speaker 3

I love accents , though Accents are my favorite things .

Speaker 2

Were you surprised when you moved here , like the accents , you heard how strong it was .

Speaker 3

Oh no , yeah . What used to amaze me , and still happens , is somebody says , like people say this all the time , I would love to have an accent . I'm like you do . No , no , I don't . I'm like no , you do , or then they go .

Speaker 5

I do , I'm like no , you do , or then they go . I do Like , yes , you have a Southern accent .

Speaker 3

Right , exactly Like just because everybody else says just me and you don't have an accent . To me you have an accent . But yeah , it was , it was . It was like it's slower . I've never can't understand what people are saying here , like because it's so slow . But I think I told you my story about my first time here , when I was ordering ham from Honey Baked Ham and I walked in I said can I order a ham ? And she went what ? And I was like can I order a ham ? And she's like a what ? And I'm like I'm gone , oh my God , I'm in Honey Baked Ham , like what , and I had to go ham .

Speaker 1

And she was like got it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , you want a ham ?

Speaker 4

I was like yeah , yeah I want a ham asking for for 10 minutes .

Speaker 3

Yes , I had another kid that I told called hannah as well , and I used to go hannah , hannah and then I'd have to go hannah , and then she turned around . Oh my gosh , I'm like this is foreign to me . Oh my god , so now you speak southern . I do , yeah , sometimes I do . If I'm on the phone , I have to yep , I have to slow way down .

Speaker 4

I love it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I love it yeah , just speaking of that , my , my son's girlfriend . She's from dad denny goll , which is a , so if anyone's watched dairy girls , that's where she's from . But I have to watch that she was . She was in work the other day and she picked up the phone and this guy started talking to her and he eventually said to her he went , hang on a second . That's where she's from . I'll still have to watch that .

Speaker 5

She was in work the other day and she picked up the phone and this guy started talking to her and he eventually said to her he went hang on a second .

Speaker 4

Do you even speak English ? Oh my gosh , oh my gosh . Well , she does have a much , because it was so funny , Like our friends , like when they would meet you and then you meet Faith , and I'm like , oh my God . And I'm like , oh my God , yeah , they're both from Ireland . What ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah , yeah , because it's so different , like I don't understand her sometimes . Wow , she says things that I don't understand .

Speaker 5

It's the cutest thing .

Speaker 3

Interesting . She has words that I've never even heard and I look at her and go oh God .

Speaker 5

She's just the cutest thing ever . She is , she's hilarious .

Speaker 2

Well cheers .

Speaker 4

Cheers , cheers to cowboys and rodeos . Gynecologists .

Speaker 2

Legs , murder leg , I mean , you know , hugs with the pants half down . Okay , I'm going to be decent .
