Hello world, this is I'm Nell Podcast. Today is Wednesday, March 11th, 2026. This is Film Intellivision Podcast where we talk about Fred Films Intellivision. My name is Caleb. Uh no chase today. On today's episode, we're going to talk about the Oscars. It is Oscars Week. I want to talk about some of the categories, give out some predictions, and then also want to talk about like the two the two heavy hitters for the Oscars this year, you know, between Shinners and uh one battle after another. Um, you know, things are going pretty good so far in 2026. Next week we got Project Hail Mary coming out. I don't know if Chase plans on seeing that or not, but I definitely do definitely want to come through with a spoiler reaction of Project Hail Mary. Um, and that'll probably be an Oscar's movie for next year. Um, but let's get right into it. I want to talk about Sinners Russian Biot after another. Um two of my favorite movies from last year. And uh yeah, I just want to talk about these movies, you know, and as far as like the context of how they compare to each other, you know, and like where they compare for me as far as like best movies in recent memory and whatnot. Um I'm starting off with Sinners. I'm gonna talk about Sinners a lot on this podcast. Um it's probably the last time, well obviously after the Oscars, but um let's get into it, man. Like Sinners to me, it is just an all-timer. Like it's a black movie, it's a musical, it's uh horror movie, um, it's a movie about um ownership. Um, it's movie about the uh Jim Crow era South. It's a movie about uh post-slavery, it's a movie about brothers, it's moving about a father trying to move on from the death of his child. Um it's my favorite movie of the decade. Um it's actually my favorite movie of the last two decades. Um it's my favorite movie since The Dark Knight. Uh I'm not saying it's the best movie. It's just my favorite. It's a movie that I enjoy watching the most. Um it's my favorite Michael B. Jordan performance, my favorite Kugler movie. Uh, I do think it's Michael B. Jordan's best performance, and I do think it's Kougler's best movie. Um, I have a few issues with it, but overall, to me, it's a perfect movie. Like, to me, the first act is a 12 out of 10. Second act, it's like a 9 out of 10. And the third act, it's like a 6 out of 10 for most of it, but it goes to an 8 out of 10 with a little uh mid-credit scene towards the end. I really, I really love re-watching that scene. Um, I talked to uh to Chase about it, and like to me, this movie is just a combination of like a bunch of directors. Um, like the first act for me, like between the church scene all the way through when we first see the Jack O'Connell character, like it just reminds me of like a spike lead movie, like we're being introduced to these characters and introduced to this world. You know, we you know, we you know, we meet the Asian family who has like their own their own grocery stores and whatnot. Like it it just felt like it just felt like very spike lead to me, you know, um just so beautiful and whatnot. Um and then you know, from the moment we see Remick all the way through Stack getting turned, it reminds me of like a Jordan Peel, you know, with like the horror stuff. Like it just it just has that vibe. It just it just really does. And then pretty much from the vampire brawl in the juke joint all the way through the end, um, it reminds me of uh Quentin Tarantino. And not just because of um from Dust of Dawn, which I'll talk about later. It's just like overly violent, you know, like lots of blood and like super violent, like the brawl in there, it just reminded me of like Django Unchained. Like Django is just three or four minutes of a constant, you know, people getting their heads blown off and shit like that. And this kind of kind of reminded me of that, um, to be completely honest with you. You know, I mentioned Django, but also like uh Inglorious Bastards in the movie theater. Um, and then also like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, you know, the ending with like the fire torch, just like overly violent. Um, and like I said, it reminded me of Quentin. Um, so yeah, Sinners to me is my favorite. And I'll be honest, when it comes to the Oscars, like Sinners vs. One battle, like I'm biased towards Sinners. Like, I just am. Um, I'll get to that later. But I'm just being front up with y'all, man. I'm I'm I love Sinners so much. Um now like the Sinners from From Dust till Dawn thing, like From Dust till Dawn, you know, it's 1997 movie about two brothers, Lord Family Hostage at a bar, unknowing that inside the bar is a bunch of vampires. Like on its nose, like yeah, it sounds pretty similar between the two movies. But to me, that only applies if you consider Cinners a vampire movie. And uh I don't like to me it's not a vampire movie. Like I mentioned earlier what it what Centers is, but I didn't mention vampire, it's not a vampire movie. Yeah, honestly, these movies have very very little in common. And like, first off, like Centers is just like way better. Like Quentin is my GOAT, but From Dust of Dawn just isn't that good of a movie. I mean he didn't direct from Dust of Dawn, he wrote it and started it, but he didn't direct it. Um, but like it's fun, it's funny, it's super entertaining, but it's like not that good of a movie. And like the the Salma Hayek part of it aside, man, like I'm sorry, like it just can't really, it just can't really hang with Sinners. Um, but anyways, you know, Sinners is a great movie. It's one of my it's one of my favorite movies ever. Um so one battle after another. Like, I watched this when it first came out. And I love the theater being like, yeah, this is a great movie. You know, PTA is amazing, one of the best generation. Um, it's about a former revolutionary who has to get his daughter from being kidnapped. Like Leo, he's good. He's uh really funny. This is the first Leo movie where he like where he like looks old, you know, like he doesn't look like the typical Leonardo Capio movie star roles, like he doesn't he doesn't look like uh Jordan Belford or uh oh man this can't be the first one where he looks old. You know the revenue also, but you know, that movie kind of that movie kind of like it's forgetting about. You know, we don't want to talk about the revenant. Um but yeah, Leo, he's really good in it. Um I remember thinking Sean Penn is amazing. Like I left the I left the theater thinking like this is like an easy Oscars win, and I still feel that way after re-watching it. You know, Chase and Fandy, my first time seeing her, she's just really good. You know, Tiana Taylor, she's beating in the movie, but she's electric. They are surprised she got nominated, but I was glad she did because she's like so good. Um, like great cast, great score, like great story. Um but like just being honest, bro, like I've heard a lot of talk about this movie, like people saying, like, you know, PTA's best movie, this is like the best movie of the decade. And I'm just real, bro. I just I just don't I just don't see it that way. Like to me, it's a great movie. I I could even go as far as say like it's perfect where like it has no flaws, but I don't know. Like I just it's a it's a really it's a it's a great movie, but to me it's not I don't know, I don't I just don't consider it like I don't even think it's PTA's best. Like There will be Blood still exists, you know. Um and I'll be honest with you, like I re-watched on Balath North for the first time earlier today, and like, you know, I was having a hard time getting through getting through it once I got like toward towards the third act. Like this movie's like super long. But like I said, it's a great movie and a great story. The score is amazing. Like that, like the scores, it's one of those scores to where like I can hear it and be like, oh yeah, that's that's one bad. Like it has very like indistinct score. And not all movies have those. Like, it's a beautiful movie, like it looks really good. Like them being able to shoot this in LA like really helped it because it just looks like a it just looks like a beautiful, perfect movie. Um so yeah, like two five-star movies. Um, I like Sinners more by a lot. Um, I've seen Sinners in the theaters three times, and at home, probably like 20, if I'm being completely honest with you. Like, one battle after another, I rewatched it for the first time, like I said earlier today, and like I just like Sinners a lot more. Like, is it better? Like, I don't know. I don't know how to judge that. Like I said, like Sinners has more flaws than one battle after another. Um, but there's more I like than Sinners. And but like I said earlier, I'm biased. Um, like I love Sinners and I like One Battle After Another a lot. But to me, they're both two five-star movies. Um, all right. The Oscars are on Sunday. Um, I'm just gonna talk about like the acting awards, um, the screenplay nominations, the best picture, best director, and uh maybe maybe best score. I don't know. Um, but like awards season, it's just like super long, bro. It's just like gone on forever. Uh, I'll be glad when it's over because the discourse online is getting insane. I'll talk about that later. Like, shout out to my folks on Reddit, in the uh Oscars subreddit, in the uh big picture subreddit, you know, the big picture is one of my favorite podcasts, you know. Shout out to Sean and Amanda. Um, but that's that's subreddit, bro. Like people are people are talking crazy in there, man. I can't I can't wait to get into that. Um, but let's get to it. Best supporting actor. Um, to me, this is Sean Penn. I just thought he was amazing one battle after another. Um, best supporting actor, they usually give this award to villains. You know, something that come to mind. Anton Sugar, no country, the Joker and the Dark Knight, and Hans Lander and the Glorious Bastards. Like, those are just a few. Like, to me, this is his award. You know, I was glad Dillory got nominated. But to be honest, I don't think he has a chance at all. Like, I think getting nominated was a win for him. So I'm glad he got nominated. Um, some of the other guys, like Jacob Alorty, like, but I don't, like, he's a good actor. I'm re-watching Euphoria now, and like that nigga was wilding. I don't remember him walling as much in Euphoria. Um, but him as Frankenstein, bro, like I I hate that movie. Like, I don't I don't like Frank, I didn't like Frankenstein at all. Like it's just it's just a slog. Um but but yeah. Stell and Sarsgaard and not Cinnamon Value. If if my guy Sean Penn doesn't win, I do think he'll Stell and Sarsgard will probably win. Um, who else we got? We got Benicio del Toro in uh one battle after another. Like he was he was a pretty fun character one battle. I don't think he's gonna win though. I think it'll be Sean Penn. Um I'm missing somebody else. Uh no, I think that's it. Yeah, that's it. Um, so yeah, Sean Penn. It's his. Um Best Forting Actress. Okay, this is interesting. Um, we got the two ladies from Sentimental Value. Honestly, I think they cancel each other out and neither of them end up having a chance of winning. So then for me, it comes down to the big three. Uh Tiana Taylor, Woon Me Mosaku, and Amy Madigan. And honestly, I don't care who wins. Like, if I had to pick, I would pick Woon Me just because you know I thought she was excellent in centers, like a really likable character. Um, and her relationship with Smoke was the real heart of the movie. But I think Amy Madigan probably ends up winning. Um, she's around for 40 years and she was a great villain. Um, I think if she like like I think if she's not good in weapons, then that movie just doesn't work at all. Like she has to be good for that movie to work, and she is, and the movie works. Weapons is one of my favorite movies of the year. Um, but the reason I don't care who wins is because I just think no matter what, it's like a win-win situation as far as like for me. Um, because like if if Teyana or Woon we win, you know, we get a black woman with another trophy, which we don't have many, we don't have many of those. We need more black women to win these trophies. Um, and then like if Woomy or Amy win, then we get a horror movie win. And like, like, so like I can't lose. Like horror, horror needs more respect at these awards. It just does. So yeah, I don't really care who wins, but I do think it's gonna end up being uh Amy Madigan. Um that's original screenplay. Um, to me, this is courage. I think this is his best shot at a trophy, and like I'm actively rooting for it. Like you told me I could like guarantee one win, that would be the one that I would pick. Um, like realistically, because I don't think he has a realistic chance at some of the other ones, like against PT. I don't know. But I do find it interesting that he's like the overwhelming favorite for this. Cause like Marty Supreme, like, I just think I think I think Josh Sassy should have a higher chance at winning. Like, to me, Marty Supreme is my number two movie of the year, and I just I just love that film so much. Um But yeah, Ryan Cooper, let's uh let's get this trophy. Let's get this trophy. Um, our best actor. Um from the moment I watched Marty Supreme, I thought it was an easy Timmy win. But Michael E. Jordan, bro, I think it's got some momentum. Like with the SAG Awards and Timmy kind of falling off from a narrative standpoint. Like, to me, objectively, Timmy just had the best performance all year and one of the best I've seen in a while. Like, I remember talking to Chase about this, and like to me, this is like to me, I like I'll re watching this in the moment and thinking, like, what would it be like if I saw like a 30-year-old Tom Cruise in this, or 30-year-old Leo in this, you know, or 30-year-old Denzel in this. Like, to me, Timmy, he's putting himself up there, you know, just from these performances he's putting up. Like, I know people don't really like the personality with him talking shit like that, but like it's true. Like, Timmy's that nigga, man. Like, I fuck with Timmy. Um, so to me, it's an easy Timmy win. And like if Michael B. Jordan wins, I'll feel that Timmy got snubbed, but like I won't be mad because like it's my favorite movie, and Michael B. Jordan was great in centers. But I'm at the point where I'm rooting for Michael B. Jordan to win, because man, the disrespect online for Michael B. Jordan is getting out of hand, bro. Like, we got fools in these subreddits saying he was the weakest nominee out of the five, and that he just played himself, and that there was like no indistinct difference between Smoke and Stack, and like maybe I've seen the movie too many times, but the differences are pretty obvious. Like, Stack is more outgoing, happy, and funny. Smoke, he's more like quiet, serious, introverted. Um like I'm gonna go through a few scenes where you notice the differences. Um there's two points in the movie where both of them have reactions to hearing preacher boy sing for the first time. You know, for Stack, it was his immediate thought was like, you know, woo, we're gonna make some money. Like his immediate thought is like how to get a financial gain out of it. Um and for Smoke in the juke joint, his immediate thought was like, was like, yeah, you know, you're really good, you're really talented, but like this isn't a life for anyone to live. I want you to like get out of this. To the point where like Smoke even like threatens to kill Sammy because he's like, I don't want this for you, you know, because he knows like what it can do to a person. Um, so like their their ideals in that aspect were completely different. Um like another scene, you know, Smoke he sees Mary at the juke joint. He he goes over to her, he stands over her, and he pretty much meat mugs her. He's essentially threatening her without saying anything. Um, and it works because she's scared of him. Now, Smoke, he goes and tells Stack, like, you know, get this bitch out of here, you know, and he does, and like Mary isn't threatened at all. Like, Stack begs her to leave and ends up trying to pay her off. He ends up telling her he's in love with her, but they can't be together, da-da-da. So like I'm like, man, please get the fuck out of here. Like, there are differences between the characters, and if you can't see that, you just didn't want to. Like, I do think there's this, I do think there are people who form a narrative of an actor and are like, that's just how it's always gonna be. Because I'm gonna be honest, at one point in time, I had these thoughts about Michael B. Jordan, where I was like, you know, he doesn't have that much range, he's not that talented of an actor, he's just like getting through it all with like charisma and good looks. You know, at one point in time I did think that because that's how I felt about him. But you know, centers changed how I viewed him as an actor because he was that fucking good. I'm like, whoa, I didn't know he had this shit in him. Um, and I think a lot of people are kind of like not willing to accept that, and there's the hey is just crazy, bro. Um but like I said earlier, like I thought Michael Jordan was amazing, but he wasn't better than Timmy. But he does deserve to be in the conversation. Like, please get the fuck out of here with this shit about him not deserving to be there. Um, alright. Best director and best picture, or best original, best score. I mean, it's gonna be Ludwig, is what it looks like. Um, I'm gonna be honest though, like the scores from Marty Supreme and uh On Boss Another are also great. Like a lot of people are picking, um, I think it's Johnny Greenwood, the guy for one battle to win, because he hasn't won yet and he's been around for so long. Um, but I'm gonna be honest, I'm rooting for Ludwig, bro. Him getting his third one at this young, it's it's insane. It's insane. Um so yeah, I'm rooting for centers there. That's I feels like one of the that feels like a lock for centers. So we'll see what happens. All right, best director, best picture. Um, these are boring because it just comes down to Kugler and PTA. Like PTA has pretty much won all the precursors, and it'd be a shock if he didn't win these two. So I'm kind of counting on on battle to win in both. And like, like I'm okay with it. PTA, he deserves it. It's his time. He's been around for a while. I'll just say, man, like PTA and Quentin, they're from like the same generation. And like, I just hope when QT finally makes another movie, he is this type of gas, bro. But you know, for my money, I'm I'm taking Quentin over with PTS. That's just me. Um, but yeah, I'm okay with PTA winning both of these. It's just time. But I will just say that if that does happen and Kugler doesn't win for best original screenplay, we riot. Like, I'm sorry, bro. Like Kugler, he deserves something for this. I'm gonna I'm gonna like feel so bad for him. Even though he doesn't, even though it seems like he doesn't give a fuck, I'm gonna, I'm gonna feel so I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna be pissed off if he doesn't walk away with one trophy. Um but yeah, the Oscars this Sunday night, I can't wait afterwards. Definitely plan on recording. Um, I don't know if Chase will be with me. I don't know if he should be watching. Chase isn't really as into the award shit as I am. Um, but yeah, definitely gonna record after after the Oscars. Um hoping for some centers wins, you know, hoping for Amy Madigan win. You know, um, so yeah, I'm I'm looking forward to it, man. I can't fucking wait. But yeah, that's all I got for he all here today on the I'm the podcast. I'll see you guys on Sunday.
