SPEAKER_00

Hello world, this is I'm the podcast. Uh this is Home Intellivision Podcast. We talk about from Intellivision. My name is Caleb Chase. What up?

SPEAKER_01

Doing good, bruh. How about you?

SPEAKER_00

Doing great. Um, we're here to talk about Spider in the War. Um, it's an Amazon Prime series starring our guy Nick Cage. Um, you know, series follows an aging private investigator and superhero in the 1930s. Uh Ben Riley, not Peter Parker. Um, it also stars uh Lamarne Morris, Legion Lee, and Brendan Gleason. Uh, it's about a uh retired private uh detective who retires after his fiancee is murdered. He retires from being Spider-Man. Well, the Spider. Um he comes out of retirement for a new case. Uh it also features uh Tombstone, Silvermane, Sandman, Black Cat, and Mega Watt. Uh, at least after four episodes, that's who it shows. We'll see who else pops up as we go on. Uh but Chase, uh, what are your thoughts on the show so far? I also must add, you have the option to watch this in color or black and white. I personally chose black and white. Uh Chase, what about you?

SPEAKER_01

I also went black and white. Uh watching uh 1930s drama in color just doesn't seem right to me. So yeah. But um that aside, I'm loving this so far. Uh Nick Cage is perfect as a 1930s, 40s detective. Um, I'm loving Lamarin. Salute to him. This man consistently gets work, and he's usually a pretty big role in whatever he's doing. Uh Legion Lee, fire. I'm not super familiar with her work, but we'll definitely be keeping an eye out on her going forward. And um, yeah, overall, um fucking with this version of Spider-Man. I like how we still have the canon events where his uh Mary Jane or uh Gwen Stacy, Uncle Ben, whatever moment you want to compare it to, has already happened. Um we've still got Sam Man, we've still got Tombstone. I'm liking Tombstone not being an actual villain this time around. That's an interesting take on him. And yeah, so far I'm very heavily fucking with this universe.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, me too. Uh, I'm a big fan of period pieces, um, especially like the detective stuff. Um, then you add in the Spider-Man of it, you know. I'm pretty locked into it. I'm enjoying it so far. Um, the black and white, it adds to the noirness of it. Um, it really works. Um, and to me, this feels like an original character. Like I don't watch this and think of Toby or Andrew or Tom. Um this honestly doesn't even feel like Spider-Man. Um and from and from the tone and the character traits, it just feels different. And it works as its own thing, and that's why I appreciate about it so far. I like that it's not trying to connect it to all this other stuff, or that it's not over overdoing it with like Easter eggs or exposition. Like we never get an origin story, we have no idea how we got his powers or anything. Uh it just goes right into it, and that part of it I do enjoy. Um, but Chase, what do you what do you think about some of these characters? You know, like you know, we got the mob boss and this Silverman guy, you know, we got Kat Hardy, who is uh played by Lee Jun Lee. You know, she seems like a very mysterious character. Um like what are your thoughts on some of these characters so far?

SPEAKER_01

Uh uh fucks with uh Lee Jun Lee. I had a feeling that she would end up getting our boy into some shit. Did not realize it would end up being as deep as it was with her basically being the rat in uh Silvermane's operation. So yeah, she's been phenomenal so far as a singer and as an actress. And um Silvermane's been good too. It's uh he's kind of giving me kingpin vibes. Is he like a uh is he a regular character in the comic books?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he was in the animated series when I looked him up. Um but I don't I don't really remember him that much, to be honest with you.

SPEAKER_01

Nah, same here. But I'm liking uh this iteration of him. This is like the perfect big bad for this time period, I would say. I was wondering who the main villain was gonna be, but yeah, I feel like they they went with a good choice as far as having him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, hell yeah. Um Brendan Gleason, the guy that plays him, like I feel like he always plays a terrible person in whatever he's in. Um, he works as this type of character. Um Lamarin Morris is Robbie Robertson. Um, he's pretty much like the sidekick type guy. Um which is interesting because like we've seen different versions of Robbie Robertson. Like Robbie Robertson was in the Sam Raimi trilogy. Um is like is like the black guy that you know Peter was selling his pictures to or whatever. Um at the bugle. And then also, you know, Insom Insomniac Spider-Man uh from the video game. He's the guy that you know you take the pictures of and give to in Spider-Man 2. Um, so yeah, he's he's a pretty well-known character. Um, Legion Lee is cat Hardy. Um Chase, I don't know if you you clocked this or not, but uh she's the black cat. Um yeah, she's the black cat. Um Felicia Hardy, that's black cat, and you know, she's cat hardy, so um so yeah, it it works though. Hers like a femme fatale, is like perfect casting. Um that's our girl, that's our girl Grace from Sinners. Um, that's her. That's Grace.

SPEAKER_01

Damn, okay. Yep, yep. Um Bro, she was fine in Sinners, but what the hell? She popped the fuck out of this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she especially like the black and white for some reason. It just I don't know what it is, but yeah, she looks she looks amazing. Um but the any episode four where she figures out that he's the spider. Um, it honestly reminds me of uh the reveal in uh My Adventures with Superman. Did you ever watch My Adventures with Superman?

SPEAKER_01

I did, I didn't get through it all the way though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's at what at one point in time Lois starts to suspect that Clark is Superman, but he won't tell her. So she literally so she literally jumps off of a building so she can force him to save her, and that's how she finds out that he's Superman. Um and that's and that's pretty much what uh that's pretty much what uh Cat Hardy does in this episode. Um yeah, she pretty much rage baits him to tell to tell to tell him the truth, which you know, I thought that was pretty cool. Um but yeah, there's a lot of good characters in this. Um shout out to the kid that plays Frankie. Um that's the kid from my weapons. Um and then also I love I love in TV shows and movies where like an actor is known for doing one thing and then he gets cast in something else to do like the complete opposite thing. Um like in the show, for instance, the actor that plays the mayor. Um in the wire, that same actor, he plays like a dirty lawyer. Um, so yeah. I always love where they do where they do shit like that, where somebody's known for one thing, then they cast and they do like the complete opposite. Uh I mean who knows? The mayor might end up being like a very corrupt or dirty law, corrupt or dirty man.

SPEAKER_01

I was gonna say, he already uh strikes me as someone with some pretty loose morals.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, people on the show don't really have that gray of morals, it seems like.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it's the 1930s, you know? Like, this is back when you could be on bullshit. No cameras, laws were loose back then. Hell. Like, women were voting for like 10-15 years at this point.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, man, you gotta think about it. Like, this is this takes place like around the same point in time as like sinners, you know. So we're not we're not like that far from moved from like slavery and all this other stuff. Like, it's I mean, I've I mean, obviously, this show's not gonna like touch on stuff like that. Um, you see it.

SPEAKER_01

Um when Robbie's trying to go into the hotel, talk to um uh what's his name? Anderson's wife. It literally said whites only. He had to sneak around into the bag.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Yep. Um but yeah. I'm enjoying the show so far. Say just from like a story standpoint of what's happened so far, um, what's been your favorite episode?

SPEAKER_01

Probably three or four. We get um Ben and Kat start to connect a bit more. The um Sandman situation is getting fleshed out as we go along. So yeah, everything is uh starting to come together. We also have um the moment where I believe it was episode three where uh Silvermane's right-hand man has found the rat, but Ben plays him. Vanessa does basically, and Ben and Kat end up surviving, and Buddy ends up in the in the grave. So yeah, a lot of action, a lot of good story dynamics happening in the last uh two episodes. So yeah, I would say either of those.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, episode four is definitely my favorite with everything that's happened with uh with Kat and uh and uh Ben Riley. That's probably been my favorite part of it. Um did you ever watch Batman that Cape the Crusader?

SPEAKER_01

I think so.

SPEAKER_00

Um there's an animated show that came out last year on Amazon. Um and it really does remind me of this show. It's it's pretty much the same thing, except for it's animated, but it's a Batman that takes place in the 1930s. Um okay. Yeah, it's I mean it's not great. It I I did I did enjoy it. Um uh but yeah, it it really does it really does kind of remind me of this show, and I kind of I kind of wish more more stuff would do this. I don't know why. I I just think stuff works better as period pieces than in like modern times. Um yeah, and I've seen people talk about I've seen directors talk about how it's easier to do certain stuff in the past, because like stuff like stuff like cell phones and technology doesn't really work on right on screen. And I I don't know, to me that it kind of that really works for this show.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I agree, cuz I mean even think about the whole MCU, you know, anytime there's a movie taking place on Earth, you got people live streaming or you know, trying to be um you have to have some mention of social media and just like the internet as a whole, whereas that doesn't have to be like a central part of the movie if it takes place in 1930 or whenever the fuck or on a different universe. So I get it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but yeah, I'm really fucking social for artists. Have you only watched the first four episodes of it and you've got through the whole thing?

SPEAKER_01

Just first four.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, same here. I'll probably get through the rest of it uh this weekend. Um to me this feels this this feels like an easy show to watch.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, I definitely uh agree. I've been to the first four episodes in one day. So like I could have gone further, but I was like, you know what? Let me uh let me practice some moderation.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, for sure. We're definitely gonna touch on the rest of it uh coming up this next week. Um, but yeah, that's Spider Noir. First four episodes. Me and Chase will be back next week for episodes five through seven. Then we'll also have an episode for uh for the finale. Like a lot of shit's coming out in June, Chase. We got we got Supergirl, we got Toy Story 5. Um, I'm pretty sure the Bear season five comes out next month, too. Um we also got our first teaser trailer for X-Men 97 season two. That comes out July. Let's talk about that. What do you think about that trailer?

SPEAKER_01

Uh Infinite Flame emojis. Animations looking crisp. We picking up right where we left off. No time skip shit. So yeah, I'm here for it.

SPEAKER_00

I'm here for it too. Just from a story, like we're getting apocalypse, it looked like. Um I'm curious to see. I'm curious to see how it starts compared to the last season, because the last season ended, you know, it kind of seemed like everybody was kind of separated on their own. Right. So yeah, I'm curious to see because I'm I'm glad Wolverine's back. Because if you remember last time we saw Wolverine, um fucking Magneto fucking ripped that nigga into shreds. Uh so I don't know what happened with that, but I'm glad Wolverine's gonna be back. Um but uh but yeah, extra 97 season two. Um I can't I can't wait for that either.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, sir.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but but that's all we got here today on the on the podcast. Man, Chase will be back next week. Chase, have a have a great weekend, man.

SPEAKER_01

You too, bro. Later, y'all.
