The $857 Business Class Mistake Fare and the Airline That Surprised Us!

In this episode of Travel Chat with Ashley and Emily, the ladies recap the incredible mistake fare that flew them to Europe for the Christmas markets in business class for just $857 round trip. What they expected to be a “good for the price” experience turned into one of their favorite business class flights of 2025—especially on the return journey with Discover Airlines.
After connecting through Frankfurt on Lufthansa and spending time in the Lufthansa lounge, they boarded Discover’s 2-2-2 configured business class cabin. While not ideal for solo travelers, the setup worked well for two friends flying together. The seats converted fully flat, the bedding was comfortable, and the overall space felt roomy enough for a relaxing transatlantic flight.
What truly stood out was the service. The crew was warm, attentive, and proactive—offering alternative meal options when the menu didn’t appeal, keeping drinks topped off, and adding festive holiday touches like gingerbread cookies, chocolates, and even memorable (and very chunky) ginger shots. The thoughtful service elevated the entire experience.
They also compare the flight to their outbound journey on Air Canada, discussing seat configurations, operational reliability, and how price ultimately plays a major role in choosing business class. The episode wraps with a broader conversation about the growing demand for premium travel and why even leisure or low-cost carriers can deliver impressive value when the deal is right.

Welcome to Travel Chat with Ashley and Emily. I'm Ashley from Ashley Gets Around. And I'm Emily with Emily Eats and Explores. We imagine this podcast is a little bit travel channel, a little bit Bravo.
EmilySo grab your favorite beverage and let's go.
AshleyWelcome back to Travel Chat with Ashley and Emily. I'm Ashley, and today we are gonna talk about the mistake fare that I sent to my subscribers that Emily and I actually booked to take us to Prague for the Christmas markets. And we paid so little for this flight. It ended up being $857 round trip in business class. Um and the way home was with a um Discover Airlines, which is owned by Laftanza and is a very interesting, unique airline. And I kind of had low expectations, but this ended up being one of my favorite business class flights of 2025.
EmilyI absolutely loved it, which is so funny because I feel like the configuration, which we can talk about, is probably not your most favorite.
AshleyIt's not.
EmilyBut it's really great, especially if you are traveling with someone for sure.
AshleyYes, for sure. And also, I had low expectations for the customer service, and it was probably the top five customer service that we had. So I don't remember what was on the menu. I'd have to go back and look. But so basically what we did is we flew Liftanza Business, which is literally just an empty middle seat from Prague to Frankfurt. We had a decent, it was sort of an annoying layover, like I don't know, four hours. Um, in um might have even been five hours in Frankfurt. I was like, where were we? I don't remember Frankfurt. They had a great lounge though, they had a very good lounge.
EmilyUm and then the boarded the flight.
AshleyUm, and keep in mind when you're in Frankfurt, when you're flying out of certain terminals, you have to go through security again and um border, like you have to do that again. And so originally when we first stopped when we got off the plane, we were gonna stop at the first Liftanza lounge, and the guy was like, I would actually go to your terminal because like you're gonna have to go through security. And it actually took a lot longer than I thought. Like security wasn't long, but the passport line was kind of long and it wasn't automated. So some places in Europe now have like where you, you know, and not even just in Europe, but like Singapore, you don't even see anybody in Singapore, you just scan your passport and go in. It's like very easy. Um, and so it was like not everything was like everybody had to wait in the line. It was kind of a long line. Um, and then we went through security, that was fine, and then um went to the lounge for a bit. You have access to the Laftanza lounges, which is interesting because some of these budget lower cost business products does Discover's considered like more leisure airline. You don't always get lounge access with them, but Discover they are fully owned by Laftanza, you do get access to the Laftanza lounges, which is very nice. Um, because there wasn't any other lounge in that area of the airport. So if we didn't have access to that one, I don't think there's a priority pass lounge. Um, but yeah, we hung out in the lounge. We were extremely exhausted. I was trying to not sleep. I ended up sleeping. I think I slept for like a couple hours. She was out, you guys. I was like, well, I can't go to sleep or all.
EmilyI was one of those, like, I know there they people definitely shit on those people, but I was one of those people that was like, I'm pretty sure I'm like shoes off. I laid on the couch, yeah. The seats as like I used it as like a couch, as like my bed. And if it was like crazy, crazy packed, I wouldn't have done that because obviously someone should sit next to me, but I really did try to like it was pretty, you guys.
AshleyAlso, other people were sleeping. The area of other people were doing it. Sleeping.
EmilySo I was like, okay, this is this is happening. And I was like, I wasn't gonna, I wasn't gonna make it. So I had people lovely sleep in the Luftanza lounge.
AshleyIf people don't judge people for drinking straight liquor at 7 a.m., I don't think there's a problem sleeping on a like lounging in a lounge. Like I just like whatever. Um, but I did have to be like, I can't go to sleep because if I fall asleep, I won't wake up and then we'll be in Frankfurt and people be like, you missed your flight, it left nine hours ago. Be like, okay, cool. Great. Uh guess we're in Frankfurt for another day. Um, but so we boarded and Discover is in a 2-2-2 configuration. So the only seats that have direct aisle access without you climbing over someone or somebody climbing over you is the middle section. And so it's not my favorite configuration if I'm traveling solo.
EmilyYeah.
AshleyBecause there wasn't a bunch, it's you know, not the fanciest business class. Um, you know, it's not a suite with a door. There wasn't really much privacy between the seats. But if you're traveling with a friend, it's great. Um, so we got on the flight, the flight attendants came around um and took our orders. And I was looking at the menu and it was like, I don't know. There was nothing on there that either of us really like wanted. And so I was like, you know what, I'm just gonna do like the sides. I'll just eat like not eat the entree. And so she came over to take our order, and I was like, actually, like, I don't think I want the entree. Like, it doesn't really look very good. And she goes, Well, I can see if I can give you the you guys the premium economy meal. Let me go see what it is. And she goes back there and it was some kind of like truffle pasta or something. And we're like, oh, we would love that if you have extra of it. She's like, absolutely no problem. And they did the pre-departure drinks, we got welcomed on board, we got handed menus. Um, I was like, wow, this is like pretty impressive for like a lower cost like business project product. And to be fair, normally it is normally priced. We got the dill of a lifetime on those tickets, but you know, it is a little sometimes a little bit cheaper than flying Left Hanza directly. Um, and so I was like, wow, this is like really good service. And the amenity kit, you guys, was this really cool bag that you could it folded into itself and then inside was like the amenity kit stuff. But the bag you could unzip it and it was like a like a sturdy tote bag with an actual bag. Like zipper top. And I was like, wow. And I love okay, to be fair, I don't know if any of us need any more bags, but I do love an amen, I do love an amenity kit that can be multi-use. And also, how many times have you guys been in the airport on a layover and you're like, I want cheese it's and some other stuff, but I've nowhere to put them in? And you're like, oh, I can use my amenity kit that I just got on this flight, or like it zips up so it's so small.
EmilySo small. But then when you open it up, it is pretty big and sturdy. Like it's a decent sized bag.
AshleyAnd it was really good quality, I felt like too. Yes.
EmilyYes. So it's definitely a little bit, it's it's a little bit more quality than if you had like those plastic, you know, those plastic bags that you can like fold into each other and fold it up really small. Um, those are nice, but this one's just a little bit more quality. You can have a little bit more like heavy-duty things in there. Plus, it had all of the fun things in an amenity kit that you would get.
AshleyYeah, and I wasn't even expecting an amenity kit. I figured they didn't even give you one. I yeah, I tried to not do research beforehand because I didn't want to like cloud my judgment, but I was like, wow, I love this amenity kit. And then they were so on top of drinks. I feel like we got, I never was thirsty. The woman was so nice, she was like the most friendly flight attendant. And I had bought chocolate, these chocolate bears in Vienna that I was like, we're taking photos with these bears. And they were like hollowed out chocolate bears. And so I was like, we ended up eating, I think, one. I think we shared one between the two of us, but I had like one or two left. And so I didn't have enough to give all the flight attendants. Oh, also when I boarded, she saw me taking videos, and so we were chatting. I was like, oh yeah, I do like content or whatever. And that can go one of two ways. Either they're like excited for you to be on board or they're like, don't film me. Like I'm like, I'm not filming you, don't like I usually start off with like, Don't worry, I'm not filming you, like I'm just filming a seat. And she goes, Do you want me to take your phone into the cockpit once we're in the air and I can get a video for you? And I was like, Yes, nobody's ever offered that to me before. I was like, wow, that's really nice. I was like, wow, that's so cool. Anyway, so service was really good. I thought the food was very good. You know, we we ended up having the pasta from Premium Economy. It was very good because the other option we were in order was cod, which I wouldn't eat cod, but I was just like, I'd rather have the pasta.
EmilyYeah, it was some it was like unique meats, like yeah, and just nothing sounded like super appealing, which I've never had that issue before. I've always ordered something off of the menu that they've had. Like there's always been something that I've liked. So that was like the first time that I was really like, ooh, like none of these seems that was the first time for me.
AshleyAnd since then I've had one on American, but it's rare that I don't find something on the menu that I liked. But yeah, I was pretty impressed with like the level of service, and then she was just so sweet. Like anytime I needed something, like they had snacks in the galley. And so I went over to her like right before the flight. I think maybe we were halfway through or something, and I went over and I was like, Hi, like, can I give you this chocolate? Like, I don't have enough for the rest of the flight attendance, but like you were just so kind and like so sweet, and like, you know, like this was just such a good, like, and I fly business class for like a living, this was like a really good flight. Like, thank you so and she was so she almost cried, like she was like so thankful because I don't think that's like as much of a thing. Probably in Germany, like I think Americans have kind of started doing handing out gifts to flight attendants. Um but that's I don't think very I mean, I don't see it happen much ever, like honestly. So every time I do it, they're usually excited. But she just was like, Oh my gosh, thank you so much, blah blah blah. She was so sweet. And then um the what was it? Um the seats went completely flat. Um and we we both slept, um, I got like a couple hours. Um and it was pretty comfortable. It was the bedding was pretty decent. The only thing I didn't like couldn't remember if the pillows were that great, but they were good enough that I slept, so it wasn't really that big of an issue. Um and yeah, the seats went completely flat. Um, I thought the legroom was fine. I didn't think it was like anything crazy. Just so you guys know, if you pick the first row on any of those two two two configurations or really any business class, usually the bulkheads have bigger footwells. So if you are super tall, which is not either of us, um, you might want to pick the bulkhead. Um, but then you were also closer to the galley. So it just kind of depends if it's a night flight. We were on a day flight back to the US, so it wasn't as much of a big deal. And I think somebody was already sitting in those seats, which is why I didn't pick them. But if you want a little extra leg room, pick the first row or the bulkhead of the second. There's two sections of business class. The seats sometimes have more room in them.
EmilyUm but sometimes it's funny because I actually sometimes find so the ones that's 222. Yeah, I flew another one with that. Maybe I think Turkish. I think I flew like the older Turkish where it wasn't more of like the suite style. But I almost like how you know you're sitting in the seat and you have all that space in front of you, and then it's the TV and the footwells are a little bigger than if you're in more of like those suite style chairs. And I was just I do find those really comfortable, especially if you have someone next to you. Like if you're near the window and you have to crawl over someone and they're like sleeping, that sounds absolutely horrifying.
AshleyYeah, no, I but that's a nightmare.
EmilyI thought those I thought there was very comfortable because sometimes the footwells in the little suites are a bit smaller, and then I feel a little bit more like claustrophobic in that way. So I really liked how that was set up and I found it really comfy, and you know, they had really good like armrests and things like that. Um, you know, the section in between where we could still like see each other and chat, but it did seem I feel like it could have been private enough if you had someone sitting next to you where it wouldn't have been like too, too uncomfortable. But I did think that was really nice. And they were so on it with the the meals and things like that. I know with our other one, it just took so long for them to bring your meals out forever. And so this one was nice that everything felt like it was done very efficiently, so then we could have the choice.
AshleyGerman, that's why let's go. Let's go like come on, come on. TikTok. It was like, here's your appetizer, here's your entree, here's your dessert. Can I take this tray? We're like, yeah, I'll take it. Go to bed. There was a shorter flight, too, then wasn't it only like you know? It's longer, it was just a day flight. It was it was um nine hours, eight, eight and a half hours. Oh wow, okay. Toronto was less because you're going east, and then also Toronto you because you have to go north from Philly, like you go up through Canada, up over Greenland. Um, so we skipped part of that by flying from Canada from Canada. Maybe they actually I think they were actually the same because we flew to Prague, and then on the way home, we technically flew. No, we flew to Frankfurt both times. Yeah. Yeah, I think Air Canada was a little bit shorter because you're flying east. It wasn't a horrible flight, it was about eight hours, maybe eight and a half.
EmilyIf you're looking to get paid to travel the world, grab my free 18-page creator handbook below.
AshleyAnd then when we were landing, and to be fair, it was Christmas season and we were in December, they gave us more, they gave us so many gifts. I was like, wow, this is we got gingerbread cookies with like uh like happy holidays. Yeah, I forgot about that. They had home, they had homemade ginger shots.
EmilyOh my god. Guys, the ginger shots. Listen, I love a good ginger shot, y'all. I am not a B-I-C-T-H. I can hold my ginger shot. I like a ginger shot, okay?
AshleyThis one though. This one, maybe it was the ginger was you took a sip of it and it was chunky, you guys.
EmilyI literally thought Ashley, she did it first, and I was looking at her and she almost I thought she was gonna spit it back out. I was like, Ashley, like literally stop being a little bitch. Like, what is wrong with you? She was like, What the fuck is wrong with you? Wallow it. Like it's like a ginger shot, like figure it out. Yeah, and I told you there's like chunks in it. Like, oh, I'm like, what are you talking about? So I had to- I think you were like, you were going full, like you were like I was like the whole thing as a shot.
AshleyYeah, because I'm not a little bitch, I can take a full shot. Okay. I was in college at one point. I can take a shot. So it was like, I would and I didn't think I didn't think I needed to chase her. I was over there. I took a big old gulp of this, and it was chunky and and like fiery, and it was it, I was swallowing it. I'm gonna gag now. I was like swallowing it, and I was like, my face, and I'm like, I need a chase her, like I need a coke or something. And then Emily's like, uh, I could tell Emily was like, she won't say it, but her face says it. And I could tell Emily was like, come on, like it's a ginger shot. And then I was like, what's wrong with you?
EmilyShe drank it on this the chunkiness was like, I was like, I don't know if it was some type of like a lemon pulp or like it was ginger. Was it chunk chunks of ginger? Chunks chunks of ginger. I don't know. And then there was another flavor that was really weird. I don't know if it was some type of like cayenne or something like that, but I've had shots with the cayenne in it, and it was like something about this was so it was so off. And then she was like, Oh, do you like it? And we were like delicious. She's like, Yeah, they're not for everyone. But it's like the shot was fine, it was the chunkiness.
AshleyListen, I think it would have killed anything in your throat. Like if you're like on the I think it would have taken care of it.
EmilyJust yeah, don't get don't make ginger shots chunky, okay? I I don't know why they were trying to get they were just promoting that company. It was like a partnership they had with them or something.
AshleyAnd they were I have no idea, but they were like, oh yeah, it was kind of cool. Like I've never been given a ginger shot in a plane. Yeah, no, I love it. I was like, wow, this is unique. And then they came by with cookies, and I'm like, I need a Coke. That's what I need. You got any more of those? Um, and then yeah, the amenity kits, and they gave us chocolates too. That was the thing. It was like a lot of gifts. I felt like I was on KLM with the number of gifts. They came by with like little chocolates. Um, and yeah, just very lovely crew. Um, she took a photo um in the cockpit. She was it sadly, we didn't get the best clouds, but I do have a photo of the front of the plane with the cockpit. I'm like, oh, that's kind of cool that I have like this photo. Um, and yeah, like overall would totally fly them again. Um where do they fly in and out of?
EmilyBecause I had never heard of that airline before.
AshleyOkay, so they fly to Vegas, they fly to Minneapolis, they fly to Philly, they fly to Tampa, Orlando and Fort Myert and Cancun. And then is this Calgary? This looks yeah, Calgary. Interesting. So lots of options. Very interesting. Wow. Um anyway, I'll totally totally fly them again. Um and they fly in and out of Munich or Frankfurt is the two airports in um in Germany. Um, but yeah, I mean, for less than a thousand bucks round trip. And I feel like Christmas like I think Christmas markets are starting to be peak season.
EmilyFor sure.
AshleyLike, like I would always be like, oh, the beginning of December, not peak. And now I'm like, oh, I think it's actually more peak because I think the popularity of these Christmas markets are you know affecting and the thing is is like you're less likely to see sales if the flights are full. Like, you know what I mean? Like it's all about supply and demand. Um, obviously from the East Coast, that you dozens and it's so many, it's the busiest sector of the world for air travel, so you have plenty of options to get across the pond. But um, yeah, I would totally fly Discovery. It was very surprising, and I I tried to not look up reviews. I did know the seat configuration beforehand, but that was kind of good. I was trying not to like look into things I wanted to be surprised. And I, you know, for it being the price it was and for being like a leisure, non like major carrier, I was very impressed with it.
EmilySo did you like it better than our Air Canada? Or did you like Air Canada better?
AshleyI liked that flight attendant on Discover better. Like she was great. I just was like, I could take her home with me. She was great. She was so friendly. She was so up, and she was the manager of the flight, and she was just so bubbly and so happy. And I was just like, I love you. Like you're like the nicest person. And she just was like anything we needed. She was just like so sweet and like, I don't know. Um, she just like wanted to make sure we had like a good flight. And this was before she knew I was an influencer. Like, this was like when we sat down and I even made a comment, like, wow, you're just like, this is like some great service. Like, um I would say if I was picking between the two and I'm traveling alone, I'm going Air Canada for a couple reasons for a couple reasons. One, irregular operations. If our plane, you know, in Toronto kicks the bucket and you're like there's a maintenance issue, the navigation went down, they have other planes they can put us on. Discover if you're in Orlando, and that I think it was an A330, your A330 has an issue, you're stuck in Orlando because they don't have another plane to swap out.
EmilyYeah.
AshleyUm also Air Canada being a bigger airline with more connections is okay, well, we can't get you out of Toronto, so let's fly you to like fly you to Montreal and we can get you on a flight. You know, like you just have more options. Um, and if I was traveling by myself, you're in a one-two-one configuration. And that's just better for me to be like buy a window and have direct aisle access. Um I wouldn't if they were the same price, I would pick Air Canada if Discover was like a thousand dollars cheaper. I'm going Discover because I had a great experience, it was fine. And really the most important thing for me on a flight, two things Wi-Fi and to be able to move, not have to have my legs crammed somewhere. So if I can lay my sleep seat down or at least sit crisscross applesauce in my seat with my laptop, I'm a happy camper. Like I could honestly, even the food, like I want to be able to eat on the flight, but like worst worst case scenario, like I can, you know, figure something else out. Um but um what was I gonna say? But Air Canada, yeah, I thought the food was very good. Yeah, the oh the sir, some of these carriers, and American does it too, and it drives me absolutely insane. It's like when you're on an overnight flight that you board at like 8 p.m. Obviously, people are getting the airport six o'clock, even earlier if they're nuts. And maybe they're not eating in the lounge because not everybody has lounge access, especially you're not in business class. And you know, most people going on trips, it's like they're one trip a year, they're not frequent flyers. And so obviously, you want to serve a meal, it's dinner time. Like people are hungry, like you know, you're getting on the plane at 7 15 for an eight o'clock. Like, you want to eat. But the fact that this is turned into like an affair, I'm like, I don't need a four-course meal. Like, just bring the salad, and they're like, here's your nuts, here's the like okay.
EmilyI felt like them going around and asking people like what they ordered or what they wanted took a really long time too. It did, but it did. But yeah, then it was like we got the bread, and then we got the appetizer, and then we got the meal, and then we got the dessert, and then the which is it's lovely, but it does, yes, it does take a long time, especially when you're just like, okay, now it's compare that to midnight where those people were sleeping.
AshleyThey are like, What would you like to drink with your tray? Here's your tray. Yeah. Um, and obviously, sometimes, you know, if I'm on a 14 hour flight, sure, let's do a two hour meal service. I don't care. Yeah. But on an overnight flight that's eight hours, I'm like, can you just turn these lights off? Like, I just want to go to bed. So sometimes now, sometimes now I've got like the flight to London I did. I basically was like, listen, I met I don't want any of these options. Like, I just want the warm nuts, a soda. And whenever you get that ice cream cracked open, I want an ice cream Sunday and that's it. And they were like, we'll get your ice cream Sunday now. It was great because then I was able, they were able to unlock my sweet door and I was laying down before people finished their entrees. And I'd already had the ice cream. So I think, you know, and you can't ask a lot of times, they'll it'll be on the menu where you can say, if you'd like an express meal. But usually the express meal ends up taking like almost as much time. Some like for me to just eat the normal meal. Um, and it could have just been that crew. Like you just never know. Like, you know, I've been on flights where American does it quick, and then I've been on other flights where it takes longer. It also depends on the oven, what aircraft you're on. So there's all these different like things I think people don't realize. Like maybe the oven is taking longer than they thought, or the plating is really complicated. So it takes them longer to plate the on. You just don't really know like what's going on in the galley um of how they're doing it. Um, you know, you could have people who were like eight rows in front of us who want 17 drinks, or like, I want every single wine you have on board. Like you just never know like what took so long. And we were in the back of business, but they were very, I mean, Air For Air Canada was very friendly, the food was good, the seat was comfortable. Um, but it is a very similar seat to uh Americans normal business class. A lot of airlines fly that same seat, so it's a very typical one-to-one. Um, I think they fly the zodiac seats. Don't quote me. Somebody will be like, they don't fly the zodiac seats, they fly the blah blah blah. And I'm like, okay. Um, but you know, um, good amenity hit. I mean, it was it was fine. And then we got into Frankfurt, we were a little delayed out of Toronto, but it was fine. I mean, I think, yeah, I think it just depends. I think if price is your determining factor for the flights, I don't care what airline it is. Yeah. Like maybe if it's like some airline that you're like, they have a sketchy safety rating, maybe not. But if it's like picking between even American, American, Air Canada, Air France, I'm going based on two things. Well, I would go based on which business class I haven't flown, but I would go on the price time of travel, like, is the Air France flight direct? There's you know, if I'm flying to Paris and you know, Raleigh has a direct Air France flight to Paris from five minutes from my house, like, and it's only a couple hundred more dollars than flying American, I'm flying to Air France because I can get to the airport in 15 minutes, go through security and walk around on my plane. Yeah, like and then be in Paris. So I think like obviously, like just the the route is important. Um, but as far as terms, like I'm not gonna go out of my way to fly Emirates because oh, well, if I fly out of Dallas instead of Charlotte, I can fly Emirates. Like, I'm not doing that. If you're looking to fly in business class for the price of economy, you can join my free email list by clicking the link below or visiting AshleyGitsaround.com. Like, you know what I mean? Like, I'll just fly American because it's the quickest way there. Because I think for me, I just want to have the space. I don't want people sitting on top of me and I just want to be able to lie down. And that's, you know, I don't even care if it has an end like Zip Air, which I really want to fly, is a Japanese Japan Airlines-owned low-cost carrier. They fly 787s to a handful of cities from uh Narita, Tokyo, to several cities in the US, and they fly Dreamliner 787s. So they have one-to-one lie flat seats. Now, I don't even know if they have TVs, actually. I don't think they have TVs. Maybe maybe they have TVs. I don't know. Don't quote me. But they you have to pay for if you want the pillow and the blanket. Like you have to buy the blanket set. If you want an amenity kit with earplugs and eye mass, it's like $10. Like you have to, all the meals you have to pay for. And I've heard people be like, well, I don't want to fly that. Like the meals aren't included. I'm like, okay, well, let's just price compare, shall we? Like, this flight is on sale. They don't do it as much anymore, but last year I used to send them all the time, and they'd be like $1,600 round trip. And it's like, okay, so you can fly from LA to Narita nonstop or San Francisco to Narita nonstop in a Lie flat seat in a one-two-one configuration. And yeah, it's sixteen hundred dollars. And then you pay a hundred bucks for a bet for two bags and fifty bucks for you know in-flight meals and the pillows. And so your total ends up being seventeen hundred dollars or something. And then you compare that to Japan Airlines that's charging four grand for the same ticket. Yeah. Like to me, that's a no-brainer that I'm taking a $1,700 ticket.
Emily100%. Yeah. But yeah, people probably don't don't think of it that way. They're just like, oh my God, now this stuff is included, and it's gonna add up and it's gonna be like, ugh.
AshleyYeah. And it's honestly that it's not priced insane. Like I think the blankets, like to have the blanket and the uh pillow and whatever, I think it's like $20. And I think you actually get to keep it. So I mean, I I for me, I'm like, I'll just take it. So I think that surprises people that I will fly those like ultra like or those low-cost carriers um because I won't fly Southwest, but I will fly uh Zip Air because of the Lie Flat Seats. So I do think it is, and it'll be interesting to see as you know, right now premium travel is like the biggest growing. Like even with Delta, I think they announced last year they said only six percent of their seats were free upgrades. So you basically are guaranteed to never get upgraded as a Delta Diamond, like godspeed, because so many people are buying premium outright, including myself. I mean, often the difference in economy and premium premium is not much more. And I'm like, well, I'll just guarantee my upgrade, or I'll wait till I'll buy economy, wait till American is like, hey, we'll let you fly first class for $162. Well, I'm like, yeah, just pay the $162. And so so many people are buying premium that I do wonder if it's gonna end up with more low-cost carriers adding life lots. And I would be happy for it because any competition is great. Like when you have, you know, if you're looking at the cost of flights, having a Legion, uh, Southwest uh play, which is now gone, but any of those like budget spirit, they lower the cost of legacy carriers. So because spirit is operating flights out of wherever it brings the average flights down because the legacy carriers have to cut compete with it a little bit. So while I don't really want to fly Spirit, I am thankful that Spirit exists, Frontier exists because they've brought the prices down a little bit because there's more competition for those seats. And there are going to be people who purely buy based on the price of the ticket. Like they'll fly, you know, even if it actually ends up being more because on Frontier you have to pay for everything. People don't do that math either. Um, that sometimes, oh, well, the $40 ticket on Frontier, if you're not packing in a small backpack, is actually a $150 ticket. Like, you know, so you have to do that math too. But I do, I will think, I will wonder if it is gonna be where more of these low-cost carriers pop up with more live flat seat options.
EmilyYeah, that's interesting. I wouldn't I would be interested to see them. I mean, I know Spirit just did their big upgrade to I mean they're not live flat, but their bigger seats. Yeah, the massive seats up front, and they get perk, you get some perks with it too. And yeah, who knows?
AshleyFor me, it's for me it's a seat. Like, yeah, I I do like being at the front of the plane so I can get off quicker, but honestly, for me it's a seat. I want to be able to feel like I can get up. I feel like I can have my elbows out. I work on flights, so I I actually am in business class doing business. So like being in economy with somebody leaning in their seat back into my laptop is a really uncomfortable experience for me. So and even Breeze, I I think we talked about this. I flew Breeze home from your wedding, and it's a low-cost carrier that I actually really like. It's started by the owners of the people who founded Jet Blue. I'm like, don't quote me, but I'm I'm 95% sure it's some of the same people that started Jet Blue own Breeze. And um, they have big front seats. Now, when you're searching for them on Google, they will not come up as business class, which is very interesting. So you have to kind of search and then go to their website to upgrade to the business class seats. Unfortunately, like I booked my flight home from Emily's wedding the night before the night of her wedding when I was flying home the next day. So uh there were no there were no seats left. Well, because I wanted to get home earlier and I was like, oh wait, there's a non-stop to Raleigh? Done. Um, and so I ended up taking that flight. And I really liked it. The seats all had chargers. Um, the big front seats were the same as domestic first class. I think they actually had more pitch, which is the distance between the two seats. I think the pitch was bigger on the breeze seats than it was than it is on Americans, like A321. So that's very interesting. Um, and I would totally fly that because it's like, oh, it's nonstop and the bigger seat. Like, yeah, I don't get frequent flyer miles, but if I'm not having to connect in Charlotte, I'm not having to connect in Atlanta or Miami, and I'm getting from here to, you know, I don't even know where they they fly a bunch of places from Raleigh, but I don't know where, you know, New York direct or something. Like, I think it's I think people would be surprised that that's the route that I would go. But for me, it's a seat. So I do think it's interesting. Like, you know, Spirit has those big front seats. Southwest is even talking about adding business class to their flights. So that would be very interesting if they end up doing that.
EmilyThat would be very surprising, but I don't think Frontier has them.
AshleyI don't think they have any plans for them.
EmilyYeah, I don't think so.
AshleyI that would be my prediction is that there is going to be more of these like budget carriers that are adding premium seats. And then that that'll be interesting to see what sort of discounts we see on my email list, because then the legacy carriers are like, you know, like if you get an airline that's like, oh, we fly live flat seats to Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, well, that might drive down the cost of flights in peak season because well, if I can fly from Orlando nonstop to because that's what a lot of these low-cost carriers they do, they pick second like level cities where if you normally would fly a legacy carrier, you'd have to connect. So like Orlando to um wherever. So like British Airways flies a nonstop Orlando to London. Um, there are a lot of carriers that fly nonstop out of Orlando because of Disney. But if you think if I was flying American, for example, and I'm going to Braz, I'm going to Brazil, I'm going to have to connect in Miami or Dallas. But if there's an option that's Orlando direct on some, I don't know, Spirit Airlines buys a long haul fleet, I don't know. Then there it's there are people that would rather fly nonstop and pay less. It's like, oh, I can be in a LIFOT seat, I can fly nonstop, and it's cheaper. Why am I gonna fly?
EmilyAbsolutely.
AshleyIt does open up an interesting like supply and demand for these business class flights, but yeah, the luxury, the luxury market is what's really growing. So it'll be interesting. Anyway, I feel like we went a little off tangent.
EmilyIt was cool. It's cool though. It's interesting to it's interesting to learn about, especially if you know you don't always fly out. Like, I mean, all a lot of these I've never even heard of. So it's cool to know that there's other options out there. Maybe some people literally only think it's like, yeah, American Delta United Blue. Like, yeah, yeah. Search for some other ones, guys. Keep your options open.
AshleyOr if you don't want to search, join my email list. Shameless plug. Shameless plug. Um, okay. Well, I think this is a good place to stop for this episode.
EmilyLove it. Thanks, guys. So much for listening to this episode. We hope you guys enjoyed learning about our flights. And yeah, if you guys want some cheap business class flights, join Ashley's email list.
AshleyShe doesn't have a sale right now, but maybe she will in a couple months. You literally bought a flight from my email list when we were in Vienna.
EmilyYep, I did. I'm really excited for that flight. JetBlue, uh, the JetBlue Mint, which is um a sweet. So I'm pumped for it. I cannot wait to see what I think about it. I'm sure you've flown it once, twice.
AshleyI've I've flown it once, yeah. I liked it. I thought the surface was very good. I thought the food was very good. They have a very unique ordering where you can order off the screen. It's very high-tech. You can pick the different things that you want and make your own meal, which is really nice. And uh, yeah, you get a door. So I love we love a door. So I think to hear your thoughts because you've started to fly more business class, but you don't haven't flown as many, but you've flown enough to kind of know what you like. And so it'll be interesting to hear what your thoughts are on Jet Blue.
EmilyYeah, I'm and it's a shorter flight to, I mean, not short, short, but like it's a shorter flight too. So we'll see. I don't know. I think I'll like it, but who knows? I'll keep you guys updated.
