Summer brings a change in temperature and also a change in the rhythms of life. Let's pause to remember the differences and the joys of summer and remember that the pace of life sometimes means to slow down and enjoy the world around you.
Welcome to season four of Faith in the Cracks. I'm Pastor Karen Wright. Life has cracks, moments between activities, places where we feel fractured. This is the space where we listen for God in the ordinary moments of life, where we are reminded that just as cracks let things in, it's a space for light and love to shine through. So just like plants grow in the cracks of a sidewalk, let faith grow in the cracks of our lives, trusting that God is at work within us. Episode 18. Summer Rhythm. Summer has a different rhythm. When I was a kid, we always looked forward to getting out of school, and summer was a time of play and pools and friends and riding bikes. And at times in life, summer feels like it goes by faster. For some people, summer may feel slower. We have different rhythms. There's days at camp and days at the pool, or if you're a parent like me, days of trying to remember which camp your kid is going to and what time to drop off and what time to pick them up. And I always know summer's coming, yet it always feels like it catches me off guard. Even though we have a calendar that has what kid is going to what camp, it still feels like a big shift. So I have to remember in the summer to give myself grace when I miss posting a podcast. I have to remember to stop and spend a little time in the evenings watching the fireflies. And there's been a lot of fireflies in my yard lately. I have to remember this is a time to enjoy my kids doing the things they love. I have to be thankful that my body can do yard work and can mow the lawn. It's fun to have time to hang out at the pool and splash in the cool water, to watch the kids as they scream in delight and jump off diving boards and do flips for the first time. To watch a summer blockbuster, or even not a blockbuster, but a summer movie. To do things like eat corn on the cob, to eat popsicles, or ice cream. And a time to remember that summer is a time to give thanks for a change in the season, for a change in the rhythm. Because even when it catches us off guard, those changes remind us that we too have seasons of life and that we need to respond with grace and love and expect some change and give thanks to God that our rhythms change and we get to explore creation in new ways. Until next time. Thanks for listening. New podcasts are released every Monday.
