Welcome everybody to the Couch and Comics podcast. Where we discuss Couch in the Comic and Comics. I'm your host, the Iceman. Let's go. Alright everyone. Here we go. Issue number two Predator versus Spider-Man. Eight and a half million people live in New York City. And they're all out of power. And what's turning out to be the hottest night of the year, hot as blood, hot as hell. All across the city, utility workers are scrambling to repair the grid. But they don't know, not really, what kind of darkness they're up against. Workers scramble to put out fires at the power grid, hold together electrical wiring that come undone due to the massive overload of the power systems. They go underground to contain and fix the power grid. Hello? Hello? Hey, you alright? He spots the train. Hello? Damn. You're all trapped in there. Whole city shut down. I got you. He struggles to open the train door. Oh shit! Blood splashes everywhere. Help me! I'm coming! He scrambles to help someone. Good God in heaven! He sees a bunch of skinned bodies hanging from the top of the train. Help me! You! What happened? What happened here? Help me. The predator kills the maintenance worker. Go! Go now while he's distracted! I don't I don't want to die, MJ. You won't. I'm not gonna let that happen. Knock knock. MJ. Babe, did you forget your key again? Not to worry, your hero awaits. You know, I was starting to get worried about you. The whole city's in total chaos right now. Not just from the power outage. There's a serial killer. I'm Peter Parker. He slams the door. I'm Detective Lapro. But you already know that, don't you? Parker, open the door. Are you mad? You seem mad. I'm really pissed. That was my crime scene you took photos of. And you sure acting like a man guilty of something. So now I'm starting to wonder. Should I be more than mad? Now I'm starting to wonder, did you kill them? Do I need to kick the door down or are you gonna open up? Why would I? Kill them and then publish an article about it. Peter Parker looks through the looking hole in his door. Sickles love attention. I'm sorry, but I really don't have time for this. You have five seconds. The detective pulls out her gun. More victims. There's a second crime scene. That's a damning thing to say. The detective kicks the door. I'm sorry I didn't call in. I didn't mention it in the article. And why is that? Because I thought he might come back. Why would he come back? You tell me. Isn't there a whole return to the scene of the crime kind of a thing? Get down on the floor and put your hands behind your head. The kicks the door completely on the ground. He didn't just leave behind a mess. He left behind a big pile of cash. Check the underground garage near Morton in Washington. Puts on the Spider-Man headgear and jumps out the window. The predator ship flies over New York City, completely camouflaged. Spider-Man swings through the city. There was a killer on the loose. There was a cop after him. MJ was missing. The temperature was in the triple digits, and the power was out. Peter Spider Sense made his brain feel like a hot itch, but he couldn't pinpoint any one threat. The whole city felt alive with danger, above and below. A predator uses his thermal vision to track and hunt Spider-Man. And swings towards the New York public library. And swings towards New York Public Library. He had to trust that MJ could take care of herself and focus on the real heat of the night. Something was out there hunting and collecting. Skins, fingers, toes, skulls, ears and eyes. Anatomical trophies. And it left something behind as well. A calling card, a symbol. The internet might be down. But he knew he could solve this riddle of flesh and blood with paper and ink. I have a confession. I've been bored. So very bored. But now I think I'm not so bored. Because you, whoever or whatever you are, are worthy of Craven the Hunter. You don't care about money. You care about flesh, blood, and bone. Stands over a skin victim, smiling, grinning. You take their skins, but you take pieces of them as well. A finger is like a rhino horn. You mount. An eye is like a salmon, you're a lacquer. That mean that means you have a den some place to store and display and puzzle these things together artfully, don't you? Yes. You see? We think the same, you and me. And Craven picks up a skull and drops it on the floor. To make a trophy of a trophy hunter. Now that will be a prize, a real prize. To skin a human so quickly and precisely. That's a delicate and difficult a task of folding origami in a rainstorm. You must have such a one you must have such wonderful tools. I have never seen tracks like yours before. Bipedal, vaguely reptilian, perhaps eight feet in height. There's just one problem. Spider Man has been here. And he's arrogant. Some sort of trap? Don't move. You'll be wise not to aim that at me. I have no quarrel with you. The detective that broke Spider-Man's door is now pointing her weapon at Craven at a crime scene. I gotta quarrel with anyone who keeps company with a room full of skin bodies. Hands behind your back, says the detective. That's good. Keep behaving. Craven turns around, grabs the detective's arm, twists it, and drops the cuffs to the floor. Craven and the detective wrestle. She shoots at him. She misses. Craven grabs her, throws her into the wall. You are brave but stupid. Brave and stupid will get you killed on a night like this. Sh so here you will stay. Craven throws a net at her while I go hunting. If Spider Man knows about you, my prize, then this is more than a hunt. Peter Parker's in the library going through books and books. It's a race. Perhaps you are ahead of me now, but not for long. We go back to Mary Jane in the subway. I can't see anything, MJ. I'm so scared. I feel like I can't breathe. Hopefully we're far enough away now. I can use my phone's flashlight. Hopefully we're safe. Mary Jane turns around her cell phone flashlight and sees a bunch of homeless guys in the subway. The homeless guy quiets them both. Shh! You gotta stay quiet. Or he comes. Understand? What is that thing? I'll show you. But you gotta be quick and so quiet. The homeless man shows Mary Jane. Here all around them are old and young, weak and strong of every gender, every ethnicity. The only thing the victim have have in common is that they were dead. This isn't the trophy room of a hunter. It's babbling, slobbering chaos, a collection of cruel madness. A canopy of human flesh skinned to perfection.

SPEAKER_00Jameson, you're not gonna believe this. I was at the library, and what do a pile of old, moldy, stinky books have to do with what's happening tonight? That's just it. This has been going on for a long time. In times of war, in times of plague, and times of drought. Whenever things get hot, dangerously hot. Look at this. That's the Arden's Forge, 1945. Battle of the Bulge. Those bodies, they belong to German and US forces. What are you saying? This symbol and this style of killing, they've been going on for hundreds of years all around the globe. I don't traffic in conspiracy theories, Parker, says Jameson. Now what? Something scared those pigeons. Do I need to be worried about you, Parker? You're paranoid about centuries old threats and birds? You gotta trust me. I got a sense about certain things. The invisible predatorship flies over the window where Peter Parker is. Decloaks, and then three predators appear. One jumps out the ship. Before the power went out, when Peter saved the story about the killings to the Daily Bugle Cloud, the photograph of the crime scene triggered an algorithm that happened laying in wait for exactly such a visual signature. A signal went out, and a hunting party followed. They are here for the one who hunts without honor. Next issue Honor Killing. Predator with no clan or code is more than the enemy of Spider-Man and a target of Craven. He is also detested by his fellow Yalcha. A hunting party has arrived in New York, and all hell is about to break loose. Alright, everyone, that's issue number two of Predator versus Spider Man. I hope you enjoyed it. I do, it's really great. I look forward to issue number three. Um alright. I'm your host, The Iceman.
