When you think of your typical film buff, who do you picture? Probably not two first-generation Jamaican/Canadian basketball players. This podcast was created to change that. Scene DMs is a journey through the minds of two best friends from Toronto who are huge fans of two things: movies and basketball. This podcast was created to be a bridge between cinematic works of art and the world of sports—from two film lovers who also happen to be professional athletes. Each week on Thursday join co-hosts Duane Notice and MiKyle Mclntosh as they discuss, debate, and review different aspects of movies, film, and cinema-from pure entertainment value to behind-the-scenes work, and everything in between. Along the way, their discussions will evoke powerful feelings of nostalgia, bridge the gap between sports and the art of cinema, and encourage more appreciation for both. Tune in EVERY THURSDAY!!

The One For Black Hollywood

INTRO - The guys return for a new episode of SceneDMs, first they catch up and discuss the current and future state of NBA All-Star weekend. They recap the importance of black history month and compare it to their experiences growing up. Merv and DuuNo list three films that explain or reflect the black culture experience. DuuNo and Merv declare which black actors are on their mount rushmore.

ACT ONE - They have an in-depth conversation about the history of black stereotypes in cinema and how they have impacted people's careers in the industry moving forward. Together, they debate which black films exceed these cliche stereotypes that were used to minimize black actors. DuuNo and Merv review some of the best black actors, highlighting their contributions and diving into their filmography.

ACT TWO - Merv and DuuNo list and give flowers to the best black screenwriters in Hollywood. Then they debate the best films with films celebrating and portraying our blackness. They pick their starting 5 line up of the best black TV shows.

ACT THREE - They debate their mount rushmore list of black directors. Then Merv and DuuNo name some of the better black couples on screen throughout Hollywood history. DuuNo and Merv declare the best black siblings or active working acting family members in film.
