Before There was ever a big bang there was the Word of God. There are clearly constellations in scripture. Looking to the stars for answers versus looking to God, is where the trouble lies. When we exalt stars above God or in place of God is when we miss the intent. Join us as we uncover exactly where in scripture many of the constellations can be found.
Hello. Here we are back with another episode of Yup. It's in there. And today we're going to cover constellations. And I know I can hear you now. Bobby, are constellations in Scripture? And my response is what it always is. Come on, let's get into it. And so, as you know from our other podcasts, we always start with a working definition so that as I am sharing, we're clear on what it is that I mean and where it is that I'm coming from. And so I want to first start with constellations. I want to make sure to share the definition and also to demystify what they are with accurate understanding of what they are and what the Bible admonishes should remove any doubt or concern after listening to this episode of Yup, it's in there. So the terms that are used as it relates to the stars and just how we how they are utilized, I will start by defining key terms that are used often. I want to make sure during this episode of Yup, it's in there, that we tackle the terms and clarify if they are in scripture and how they are to be used. And we're going to firstly cover constellations. And in defining constellations, it is a group of stars that appear to form a pattern or a picture. And so I added a couple of other terms, and I've added these terms because when talking about constellations, we're looking at the stars and we're talking about the stars. And I know that there has been a lot of dialogue with believers and unbelievers alike as it relates to the other two terms that I am going to define for you and clearly outline for you and delineate how we are to use them and how we are not to use them. And so our second definition is for the word astronomy. Astronomy simply stated, it is the study of everything outside of Earth's atmosphere. Often we see in scripture the term heavens, outer space, or galaxies. And astrology is at the place where believers and unbelievers diverge. And astrology is a non-scientific practice of using the positions of celestial objects to explain or predict human behavior. When you look at the positions, the motions and properties that affect people and events, you are now looking to these things to determine life and its outcomes. God warned us in Deuteronomy 4 and 19 not to do this. So when anyone speaks with absoluteness or emphatically concerning these things, they are moving in error according to Deuteronomy 4 and 19. So let's take a look at Deuteronomy 4 and 19. So we are all clear on exactly what the scripture has to say. And so it says here, and when you look up to the sky and see the sun, moon, and the stars, all the heavenly array do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all nations under heaven. And I want to add some more clarity to this admonition. As the cautionary verse here in Deuteronomy chapter four is indicating, when we are looking to things outside of God, we then begin to function in error. So we're circumventing the Holy Spirit, which is God Himself, leading and guiding us in all ways of truth, and we're exchanging it for something counterfeit. And so we're trying to predict, we're trying to worship something else. In the book of Romans, it says that you worship the creation more than the creator. And as we read here in Deuteronomy 4 and 19, as it indicated, there is no bowing down. The admonition is not to bow down or to use what you see as predictors for what is to come or even what is happening. But there is but one, and that is the Holy Spirit. And so it's all about a matter of worship. And so as you look and you give worth to the sun, moon, and the stars versus acknowledging the God of heaven, the God of creation, the God who created all of these things, that is in fact where the error comes into play. And the mere fact that we are admonished not to uh use them as predictors in our own lives is a cautionary tale for believers to stay away from that. And we all know what Lucifer said: I want to be like the most high. And so when we decide that we want to be God or that what God has offered us is not enough, and we begin to look at the predictors, that is when we step out of line because we are now giving worship to something that He created, and we're not giving it to the creator, as I mentioned in Romans chapter one. And so I'm now gonna get back on track. We're gonna get back into uh constellations and talk a little bit more about constellations and where in fact they can be found in scripture. So there are several references to constellations. I will name them Orion, Pallades, the Big Bear, the Twin Brothers, Castor and Pollox, the constellation Gemini can be found in Acts chapter 28, verse 11, which many of you may know by way of the uh zodiac Gemini. But this study is not to cover the stars as it relates to astrology, but we are in fact covering them as constellations, what God has created in the expanse. We also have Maseroth that can be found in Job chapter 38 and 32. God here is challenging Job, asking, can you bring forth Maserath in its season? The Maserath is an Aramaic Semitic name, meaning the 12 signs of the zodiac. Arturis is another constellation that can be found in Job 9 and 9, as well as Job 38 and 32. And it reads the bear keeper, the name given by the ancients to the brightest star in the constellation, Buddhism. It is the rendering of the Hebrew word Ash, which designates the constellation, the great bear. The Greeks called it the guardian of the bear kite shaped. I want to make it clear how we are to utilize the sun, moon, and the stars. In the book of Luke, chapter 21, verse 25, in the Amplified Version, clause A. There will be signs attesting miracles in the sun, moon, and stars, and on earth. Genesis chapter 1, verses 14 through 16 says, then God said, Let there be light bearers, sun, moon, and stars in the expanse, and it was so. And I want to clarify, I mentioned worship before, and I want to uh now go to the book of Psalms, and we're gonna read Psalms 19 and 1. I want to throw a couple of psalms to demonstrate God's rule over them all, and so no one is over any of the stars that God has created, and so I want to make that clear. And Psalms 19 and 1 says, the heavens are telling of the glory of God, and the expanse is declaring the works of his hands. And I just want to, I think I said enough about uh zodiacs and even astrology and their relationship to one another. And so instead of beating a dead horse, I want to go ahead and end here. And what I want to uh let you know is that we've covered the stars not exhaustively, but enough for you to know that constellations are in scripture. And so my response to Bobby, are constellations in scripture? And again, my response is what it always is, and that is yup, it's in there. See you next time.
