It seems we ruffled some feathers during our end-of-year-concert when we delivered a potent slam poetry piece that exposed the fractures within our current western maternity birthing model.
The poetry piece addressed the very real and concerning implications that can exist when birthing in the hospital, especially in regards to routine intervention, and the increasing rates of c-section and birth trauma.
We had a lot of audience members equal parts inspired, and some extremely triggered. This episode is our public statement where we also address the lived experience that inspired the spoken word in the first place.
