Hi, welcome to the simple SEO podcast. I am Rachel Lindteigen, and I'm so glad to have you here with me today. Today. I want to talk about. AI tools, artificial intelligence tools and how we can use them. And not get in trouble with Google. So if you've listened, you've probably heard me or others talk about the fact that there were some big changes with Google in the March, 2024 core update. Part of that was really coming down on sites that were relying heavily on AI tools to create content, to do different things for them. But I also know. We really want to be able to use those tools to speed up the process. We want to make it. Faster and easier because I get it. Sometimes creating content can feel like it takes a long time. And so if there were tools that you can use that can make the process faster for you. And you can avoid getting into trouble with Google. Then by all means, that's what we want to do. So let's talk about three different ways that you can use these tools to help you. Now I'm going to use chat GPT as an example, but the reality is you can use whichever of the AI tools that you prefer. Most of them do similar things. So we're just going to talk about chat GPT, because it's the one that I'm the most familiar with, but honestly you can use whichever one you want to do these different things. So we need to be careful. Just because there are some things that Google really does not want you to do with the tools. And so we're going to talk about that, but let's jump in to how you can use them, because I know I hear from my students, writing blog posts feels like it takes a long time. They understand the importance of it because they realize that if they create the blog post and they optimize it and they do all the things that they learn in class, Then it's another chance for them to rank in Google and another chance for people to find their business and to ultimately become customers and raving fans. So they're excited to do it, but the reality is most of us are solo preneurs. We're doing this on our own, or maybe we have a VA, but for the most part, we're the ones doing it. And I feel you because I'm the one writing the blog posts that you read. I'm the one who's doing the podcast that you listen to. So I completely understand. Stand. And I know. That we want to be as efficient as possible with our time, because we don't have a lot of time to waste. Because we've got to spend time in our business and on our business and also living our lives and taking care of all the other things that we have going on. So, how are we going to use these tools to speed the process up for our content development? And honestly you can do some of your SEO work in those tools as well. So the first thing I want to talk about, and this is something new that I'm teaching in simple SEO content. In our very first module is how to use different tools to help us with keyword research. So I know. Finding the right keyword can feel very daunting. It can feel hard. It can feel a little overwhelming and confusing, especially when you're in a niche that's more competitive and you feel like you look and you've refined and you review, and you're just really not sure. Or. What happens with a lot of my students is they joined me in class. They go through module one, which is all about keyword research. And then I get a message from them saying, oh my gosh. Okay. I've been doing it completely wrong. Thank you now. I understand why it's not working. I, this course just made perfect sense. And I've only been 30 minutes into the class. So keyword research is one of those things that can feel hard and confusing. You can use. Your AI tool like chat GPT to help you. Now, it's not going to be able to tell you. For sure which keyword is the right one or anything like that, but it can give you a starting point. So if you're not sure what you want to write about, or you know, what you want to write about, but you don't know what keywords to go after. Go to chat GPT. And ask it, putting your prompts and for your prompt here, you're going to want to ask it to be an SEO strategist. You're going to want to give it some information on your niche, some information maybe on your competition. Maybe what your thinking about writing about an ask it, if it could give you a set of keywords that you could potentially use to create a blog post or to optimize whatever page you're working on. Now, the thing here is you're going to want to ask it for low competition keywords. You can also ask it to put the keywords and the search volume and the competition into a table format. I kind of liked to do that just because it makes it easier to look quickly and see, these are the words, this is the volume, and this is the competition. Now what I want to say here is I don't want you to just take what chat GPT gives you. And go forward because very often. The low competition or the, the words that it suggests may not be the right one for your website, based on your site's authority, your niche, your competitiveness, all the things that I teach you, how to figure out inside of simple SEO content. So. If you're a student and you have the course. Go to module one of the brand new updated version of the course and watch the lessons in module one, because you'll have the chat GPT walkthrough. You'll also see the full process for verification and choosing which keyword in the different Google plugins you can use and things like that. To make this process a lot faster. If you're not in simple SEO content yet, why not? I mean, come on, get signed up. You can take the free class. The SEO 1 0 1 class is right on my homepage. Etched marketing.com. That'll give you an invitation into the course. Get yourself in there. It's going to make this so much easier. You're here. You're listening to the podcast. Just come work with me. I'll make it a whole lot easier for you. So we're going to ask chat GPT for the ideas. We're going to look at those. Then I want you to go back over to Google and I want you to really look and see who's ranking for these keywords. Do they look similar to me? Are they really big brands? Are they smaller? Like me? Like spend a little time to determine. If one of these is a good option. If one is great, you can move forward. If not, you can always ask it to refine it and say, Hey, those are probably a little too competitive for me. Can you give me some other ideas, et cetera? Now, if you use keywords everywhere. They actually have a plugin. That you can use. It's like a macro that runs within chat GPT. Don't ask me how to set it. 'cause. I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I'll tell you, I found a YouTube video from keywords everywhere about their chat GPT, keyword research plugin. And it was pretty. It was, it was kind of fun to use kind of easy and it gave me some ideas as well. Now the next thing you can do. So keyword research is one starting point. I would consider it more keyword brainstorming than keyword research because you're still going to need to be involved in the process, but maybe it'll help give you a better starting point. The next thing you can do. Is to ask it to give you topic ideas. So go into chat GPT again, or whichever of the tools you want to use. Let it know what your niche is, what your topic area is. Or your content pillar, like what you want to write about or who you help give them some information on your audience? Ask them to think like a content strategist. Give me suggestions for 10 blog posts that might be helpful for my audience. It's going to give you 10 different blog, post ideas. If you already know what you want to write about, but you need a better title or headline. You can ask chat GPT to give you 10 different versions. Of a title or a headline that you could use for a blog post from there, you can always ask it to refine and be like, oh gosh, I really like number six. Can you give me five more options? That are similar to this, and then it'll expand and go from there. It can help with the brainstorming and it can be a really good tool for brainstorming. I do sometimes like to use it, to help figure out if I feel like I'm kind of in a. It kind of stuck. Maybe I know what I want to write about, but I feel like I need an more exciting title. Sometimes I will go in and ask there. Now what I want you to remember when you're getting your titles and things, those are not going to be optimized. Even if you ask it to create a title using your keyword. Sometimes it wills, sometimes it won't. So make sure you're still doing your optimization. And inserting your keyword into that title to make sure that your blog post or your website page is truly about that content. So we've talked about that titles. Um, topics. The other thing you can do is ask it to give you an outline. What should I include in this blog post? Can you tell me what information I should consider? So that'll give you a starting point. If you really struggle with writing. I know for some of you writing is harder, it takes longer. I've talked to people who say, you know, it takes me. Two or three days to write a really good blog post. My goal is to help you speed that process up. I write my blog posts in under an hour, and I want that for you as well. And that includes doing the keyword research and the optimization. Like I want this to be a lot easier and faster for you. So if these tools can make a difference and help you then by all means, use them as the tools that they are designed to be. You can ask it to give you a rough draft. Now here's where I really don't like to use the tool. In this capacity, because I personally feel. That I have to do so much editing. To a rough draft that chat GPT has given me that it's not worth the quote unquote time-savings because it actually takes me longer. I can write it faster with bullet points or an outline, or these are the six things that you should address in here. I can write it faster from that point, then I can edit. A draft and I know you can adjust it. You can have it, write it in this voice or that voice, and you can have it, do all these different things. The reality is I do not want you to have any of the AI tools create your rough drafts. Unless you are going to do massive, heavy editing because that's what Google does not want. Okay. Google does not want you to copy paste. Anything that comes out of an AI engine, as far as your blog content or your website, content is concerned. Because it's not new. It's not unique. It's not truly helpful. The content that because of the way that the AI engines are created, they scrape everything that's already out on the web. So your blog posts that it's just created for you is simply a regurgitation of content from a bunch of other people's blog posts. There's nothing really new, unique, nothing really helpful, nothing that's really of your. Uh, personal experience, you know, you haven't addressed. E a T your experience, your expertise, your authority, your trust, et cetera. So, this is where I really want you to make sure you understand what not to do and what not to do is do not have it write your content for you. You will not get rankings. You will not get traffic if you do that because your content is not going to be thought to be high enough quality. Google's March, 2024. Update actually addressed this AI generated spam. Because there are sites. Every time something new comes out there are people within the SEO community. Generally, we refer to them as black hat versus white hat, black hat SEO is try to break all the rules. They try to get away with the cheater tactics. They're kind of the bro marketers, you hear somebody say SEO, you know, Do this chat GPT can create 12 blog posts a day for you. And you're going to get 10,000 visits a month. That's a black hat SEO. They're the same guys who a decade ago were selling you links to every site and saying, I can rank you with just these links to this site, or like, Their tactics change. But the bottom line is they're trying to cheat the system. And so they go and they do, and they may be when for like 10 minutes and then Google comes back. With an update to the algorithm and a penalty. And takes care of them. We had Panda. We had penguin. Now we have AI spam. The bottom line is to win with Google. You have to create really helpful content and you have to be the one to write that content. So as long as your. And using your tools to help you. You're not having it right. Your content. You'll be fine. The other thing, I want to make sure that you know, that you can have chat GPT or another AI engine help you with. Are your title tags and your meta description. So when you're writing a blog post, you need to make sure you're creating your title tags and your meta descriptions. Now remember, title tag is about 60 characters, including spaces meta-description is around 160 characters, including spaces. Both of those are things that your potential searcher is going to see in the search results. So Google's going to read them to understand what they're about. They're more SEO elements that are going to help Google know that that page is about that keyword. Which is why it's important to include your keyword in the title tag and the meta-description. But your potential reader is going to see them in the search engine. And they're, what's going to entice them to potentially click to come through to your website, to read your blog post, or to learn more about your business. So write them for your reader. But you can ask your chat GPT engine. To help you, you can ask it to suggest one again, you know, think like an SEO specialist create a title tag. This is my key word. Make sure you're giving it the rules because I've noticed if you don't tell it how long it's supposed to be, they don't follow the rules. So that's one of those things where you have to make sure you understand. Um, my students you've already got access as to like how to write a great title tag, how to write a great meta-description. So, you know, if you start writing your own, you can always have it edited. See if it can make it snappy or snazzier, whatever you want to do. If you're not in the class, like, seriously, just come join me in class because you're going to learn so much more and you're going to get better results and I'm going to make sure you're not making the mistakes that you're making today. That are keeping you from getting the results that you want to get. So just take class, take the class. Start three steps. It's so easy. My friend. Take the free class@etchedmarketing.com. It's right on the homepage. Watch the free class, like sign up and then watch it and then join simple SEO content at the end of the free class, sign up, join me in the student group. And I'm going to walk you through how to do this. In about five weeks, it's pretty quick. It's pretty easy. And then you're going to have me answering your questions and helping you and making sure that you've got everything you need. And we're going to get your website optimized. We're going to get your blog going. We're going to get your traffic coming in. You're going to understand the numbers in Google analytics so that you're like, oh, That's actually working. So those like seriously just joined me in class. It's so much easier. All right. That is how you can use some of the AI tools. To speed up the process while avoiding getting in trouble with Google. So remember you can use it for keyword brainstorming. You can use them for your content topics, your ideas. You can use it to give you titles for a blog post. You can use it to give you. Um, meta descriptions or title tags. You can even ask it to outline your blog post. And other thing I didn't talk about earlier, but you can put your blog post in there and ask it if there's anything semantically related that you should have included or anything else. That you could add, you could give what you've got and ask it how it would expand it to X word, count to make it a little longer, a little more in depth. There's a lot. You can do. The only thing I want to make sure you understand, truly not to do is don't have it write your blog post for you. And I know you may be a little concerned about putting your blog post into the chat engines. I realize that once your blog is on your website, They have access to it anyway. So I wouldn't worry as much about putting it in there to work on it from a competitive standpoint. But if you have any information that is truly confidential. Do not feed any of that to the AI search engines, because anything you put in there is now their domain that they can use to learn and to move and to grow. So as long as it's something that you share. On your blog publicly. Don't worry about it. But if you know, you have a course or you have something like that, you have things that you don't share publicly. Do not put them in chat GPT or any other AI language learning model. Just want to make sure you understand how that works. All right. If you have any questions about how to use AI tools for SEO. Send me a note or just get signed up for a simple SEO content, because module one is going to walk you through your keyword research and how to use the AI tools. For keyword research, along with some of the plugins, the ways to just make the process so much easier, because I know. Keywords are the most important part. And they're also the most confusing and they're the place that most people are making mistakes. I would almost bet you money. I'd almost bet you the cost of the course that you've got incorrect keyword targeting, keyword mapping, or keywords chosen on your website right now, because those are the most common mistakes that I see. All right, my friend, let's get that cleaned up. Let's fix it. And let's get you some traffic. All right, bye. For now. I will see you back here next week and make sure you listen. If you're not following follow now. Cause every episode coming out is going to be a great one and lots of help for you.
