What if you could actually see how your brain responds to trauma, stress, or therapy?
In this groundbreaking episode of The Voyage Cast, we sit down with Dr. Steve, a leading expert in neurotechnology, to explore how EEG (electroencephalogram) brain mapping is revolutionizing mental health care. From identifying hidden trauma to enhancing therapeutic outcomes, EEG offers real-time insights that go far beyond talk therapy.
Dr. Steve explains how this non-invasive technology is being used to diagnose emotional dysregulation, monitor cognitive performance, and even personalize treatment plans based on your unique brainwave patterns. If you’re a therapist, a client, or simply curious about the future of mental health, this episode will challenge how you think about healing.
What you’ll learn:
- What EEG really measures—and why it matters for your mental health
- How trauma and stress show up in your brain
- Real-world applications of EEG in therapy, coaching, and performance optimization
- Why combining technology with therapy might be the future of psychological care
Tune in now—and see what your brain has been trying to tell you.

(0:00:00) - EEG Technology in Mental Health Treatment (14 Minutes)
Today, we are joined by doctor Steve Rondeau, the owner of Axon EEG Solutions and creator of the world's largest EEG human brain database with AI and machine learning capabilities. We discuss the potential of EEG technology to transform how we approach mental health treatment. Doctor Steve reflects on his journey from private practice to data analysis and research, and how his team uses innovative technology to match patients with precision treatments. We explore the possibilities of EEG technology and its potential to improve mental health treatment. Join us as we uncover the potential of this groundbreaking work to objectively analyze data and provide patients with the best possible outcomes.
(0:14:26) - Brain Mapping and Treatment Planning (5 Minutes)
Today, we explore the practical application of EEG brain mapping and how it can be used to identify and treat pathology, as well as help people find their gifts. We look at the similarities between drug addicts and professional racing drivers, and how the right environment and tools can help us better understand our needs and how to meet them. We also discuss how EEG brain mapping can help clinicians create better treatment plans for their clients and filter out people who are more prone to trauma. Finally, we touch on the topic of mixed regimens of medications and how EEG brain mapping can help to create a plan that makes sense.
(0:19:06) - The Importance of Understanding Individual Differences (5 Minutes)
We explore the complexities of treating mental health conditions and how the heterogeneous nature of these conditions can make it difficult to find effective treatments. We also examine how environmental factors can influence someone's mental health journey, and how small changes like finding a creative outlet can be beneficial in the long run. Finally, we look at how understanding our individual strengths and needs can be a freeing experience that helps us find the environment we need to flourish.
(0:24:33) - Tailoring Meditation and Understanding Suicide Biomarkers (11 Minutes)
Today, we discuss the importance of tailoring meditations and other behavioral strategies to different brain types, as well as two topics that are often challenging for people to accept - understanding their children and the normalization of cannabis use. We explore how EEG brain mapping can be used to identify and curate an environment for your children that is best suited to their strengths and challenges, as well as help to identify potential risks associated with cannabis use. We also touch on the idea of how sometimes it takes data to convince people of certain ideas and hear a story about a creative girl in a rural farming town.
(0:35:06) - Markers for Suicidality and Possible Applications (9 Minutes)
Today, we discuss the possible implications of using EEG brain mapping to identify and treat suicidality. We explore how the data from EEG brain mapping can be used to flag individuals at high risk for suicidality and how this data could be implemented on a larger scale. We also examine the ethical implications of delivering this sensitive information to patients and the difficulties of treating mental health conditions with heterogeneous characteristics. Finally, we consider the importance of tailoring strategies like meditation to different brain types.
(0:43:55) - Improving Mental Health With Data (4 Minutes)
We discuss how working in a large clinic for a dozen years enabled us to look at the EEG data through various filters. Having different providers delivering care allowed us to look at the data through different lenses, which informed the creation of a tier report. We explore the potential applications of EEG brain mapping in identifying and treating conditions, including treatment-resistant depression and PTSD, and how this data can be used to inform recommendations to clients. Lastly, we discuss how EEG can be used to identify trauma and stress responses in clients and the markers that can be used to identify them.
(0:48:11) - Brain Markers and Trauma Response (12 Minutes)
We explore how EEG brain mapping can be used to identify and treat trauma, as well as its potential applications in sports and other areas. We discuss the markers that are consistent with this particular phenotype and how it leads to a lower stress tolerance or resilience. We share our experience with two treatments that can reverse the pattern, and then ask how EEG brain mapping might be applied to the autism community. We consider the heterogeneous nature of autism and the complexity of treating it with EEG brain mapping. Lastly, we discuss the importance of tailoring treatments to different brain types.
