Dr Kay Scarpetta is back and devastated to learn that the murder victim is a man she once loved. Summoned to a theme park to collect the body, Scarpetta finds a bizarre scene with a crop circle of petals, his skin strangely red and is shocked to discover her friend seems to have deliberately left her a clue. As the investigators are torn between suspicions of otherworldly forces, Scarpetta detects an explanation closer to home that, in her mind, is far more evil.
