Aron Price  0:00
I will concede that historic USI because you think in a wingfoot you know, thinking of chambers bay or maybe even the new Piper's Vance.

Matt Every  0:07
Miller's favorite what happened.

Billy Horschel  0:08
The changes are back. Beautiful scenery. Oh man.

Matt Every  0:16
Last week's ever worst weeks ever. They tried to do fescue graded disaster I would drew on Friday, I had a stomachache, but also couldn't make it to footer on those.

Billy Horschel  0:27
Not many people could trust.

Matt Every  0:27
My Billy's antics were all you remember out there doing the snake?

Billy Horschel  0:36
I actually I played really well that week. And the greens were and everyone can say well, Jordan speak to that ball. Jordan speak to the other guys that might but even Jordan speed has said to me and said other people like they were awful. They were really bad.

Scott Riley  0:57
So 35 It used to be like the, you know, the peak of but now it sounds like a journeyman age.

Matt Every  1:04
You're a dinosaur?

Scott Riley  1:05
I mean, yeah. What's it like seeing all this this youth come up? I mean, I feel like you're you've kind of had a resurgence in your career here. You're looking at this as maybe you know, you're going to be 40 in five years. Let's get some boxes checked.

Billy Horschel  1:20
Yeah, exactly. Right. I mean, I think it's really cool to see all the young guys come out. I think there's a multitude of reasons why they're coming out. And so and a lot of these guys are ready to compete right away and their games or, you know, pretty much well rounded. They really don't have any weaknesses. But yeah, I'm the guy who, you know, still holds to the, I guess, maybe I hit my prime and 35. And I mean, yeah, I wonder the FedEx Cup. And when I was 27, and had to be wins by the time I was 27. But obviously, I had some years here where I didn't do very much. And then the last couple years have been really good. And I feel like I'm only I feel like I've still got a lot a lot of ways to get better. But I feel like I've learned what I need to learn, learn how to prepare for tournaments, learn how to go about it, learn, you know, several different things. I feel like, you know, I think the next five years, five to seven years will be will clearly be the next will be the best five to seven years of any time in my career. And it's weird to think that, you know, I turned 36 in a month's time. And, you know, I don't think I'm 36 I don't obviously I have three kids under the age of eight. And but there's times the body feels that once in a while. But I still feel very young still has met says you boy said I still have tons of energy. So that's never never an issue at all. But yeah, I think the next five, seven years, I'm excited about what what is in store and what's to come because I think if some some really cool accomplishments that I'm going to be able to check the boxes on and, and then lead the tour and be like, wow, you know, for that generation from my time period, you know, was I the best of that generation? No, but I was up there in the sense of being able to accomplish some unbelievable things with some great players and, and a very challenging and deep generation of players. Yeah.

Aron Price  3:05
I think the young players so it just comes in waves and we obviously steward 648 and he won but I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of guys between 35 and 45 this year when six events I just think it comes a little bit of waves. I think Adam Scott's still got plenty in his tank. He's 42.

Matt Every  3:20
Yeah, and now more than ever to I mean, if the fields 140 Guys, I mean 100 of them can win. Yeah.

Scott Riley  3:27
Well, Phil didn't get his first until he was 34 I do think that we will see some guys in the twilight of their careers rattle off some majors and I hope that you will.

Billy Horschel  3:37
I mean, I said last week and my co with one of the questions was what you've accomplished X amount this so far in your career like what are your your you know, the rest of your goals in your career and I I said I think I can easily get to 10 plus wins on the PGA tour I think in today's world I think you know we golf is and I'll deep it is I think you'd be when 10 plus times on the PGA Tour that's pretty fucking good stuff. Yeah, I think I believe I'll make a Ryder Cup team hopefully more than one that's always been my goal obviously it was great to be part of the President's Cup team. I enjoyed it i It was a week that I wish lasted three weeks and not even the golf part of it but just the hanging out with the guys and and and being around Fred couples a lot like I just love that like I thought it was awesome.

Aron Price  4:21
Let's say at least those young boy yeah hangs around young people and always when we put into he was hanging out with young kids it's a red flag SmartMove.

Billy Horschel  4:28
Yeah. I think I said I would love to get the number one player in the world is that you know realistic you know, I don't know obviously I've got to play consistently well for X amount of time. But the goal is is if I can you know reach my full potential. And if that means I only get the best I get is three or four in the world or or whatever then you know, I'm fine with that. But I do believe there's a major I do believe there's more than one major in me.

Matt Every  4:51
I would love the 104 majors let suits you the best US Open.

Billy Horschel  4:55
You know, I've always said the US Open. I think the US Open suits me very well. Maybe British And I would have never said the British Open it early in my career but the way I've been able to I've always enjoyed going over there and playing but I've had to learn how to accept stuff.

Aron Price  5:09
I think some Americans don't enjoy it and you just see if you don't enjoy it.

Billy Horschel  5:13
I don't want it because you hit a ball next, you know, three paces shore the whole next you know, it's 50 feet, the ball react the way you expect it to. And so I think the last couple of years what I've done playing downhill, and I've played better and open championships, my results may not be there. I think I finished 20th This year, or 15, I think and I should have finished up 10 I missed some putts coming in. I think I had 10, three putts for the week at St. Andrews, which was, you know, five of them, five of them are off the green and five of them are on the green. So but I think the links I think Open Championship would be unbelievable. And so I think the two opens obviously PGA is a crapshoot. You just never know how the course is how the course is going to set up and everything and you know, I'll tell you what, I've never been a fan of a gusset not the golf course but just everything around that like I grew up a fan but then Wi Fi got there I just felt like it was how I grew up little stuffing everything but the more I've met more than members and become friends with them and see the guys that they are I've gotten more comfortable being on the ground is there and so I think that that's a possibility. I think I have to have a really good short game week and because I think you're going to miss some greens and everything you got to have a really good iron play week but I think putting wise I put well around there I've just got to I've got to do a better job of from tee to green. So I think that could possibly be one just because the winning score now is not 18 on there. It's somewhere between eight to 12 on that with the changes which suits me really well.

Matt Every  6:31
chipping is massive at Augusta. I mean, you look at Jonas blitt the year Spaeth went nuts Jonas finished second and he at the time.

Billy Horschel  6:39
I was at the top top five on tour short game wise.

Matt Every  6:43
Insane Cam Smith same thing super shallow attack Cousar same thing just it's not all about hidden bomb high drawers there I mean you're gonna miss greens and around there I think us for you I think it will always be used so.

Billy Horschel  6:59
I've always said that drive it well put it well had a lot of greens so what were LSCC next year so that's a weird i don't know much about the course and that's gonna be interesting setup February is gonna be rough there and everything I don't know much about the golf course and then we come back I think the Pinehurst and Oakmont so I missed.

Matt Every  7:15
The rough we don't it's like we don't have rough anymore in any of these majors. It's like this trend we went on somebody started where it's like bad to have a rough around the globe go with.

Scott Riley  7:25
Natural native areas.

Aron Price  7:27
I'll go against the I love the rough friendly rains if it rolls off then you have three options. You can love it you can put it.

Billy Horschel  7:32
No I think I think around the greens around the greens, but fairways.

Matt Every  7:37
Like Pinehurst used to be if you missed the fairway everyone had the same shot.

Aron Price  7:41
To hazards just as Sandy coin flip.

Billy Horschel  7:44
It's a crapshoot it's a coin flip now with this with the surrounding areas you know you can you know you could get a good line and get it up on the green or you could be in some bad spots and be maybe penalty or or just chipping out.

Matt Every  7:55
Pinehurst was 100% better before they read it.

Aron Price  7:58
That's where I think it goes to the second part of the game which has said the golf is obviously different in the UK. The second part of the game is like how do you deal with a bad break? You let it get to you or do you go hey, look, this is the other part of the game I've got to mentally try and like not worry about that or that's what I don't know. Like is it better as a night for TV looks better with.

Matt Every  8:16
Ah, rough? Yeah, I think you're getting a better champion.

Billy Horschel  8:19
Yeah, I think when you look at a major every major is different but the US Open it up seven should have raffia us opens always been one word test all facets of the game. You got to drive the ball straight. You got to hit great iron shots. You know, if you miss screens, you have a good got a good short game, you know, if you put it around that, you know, you gotta be a good putter. The other majors are all different, you know, Augusta, you know, yeah, there's some tight tee shots but don't have to. I mean, the fairways are pretty wide around. Yeah.

Matt Every  8:45
And you can play out of the trees there. There's no low lying limbs. Third, big pond.

Billy Horschel  8:49
I mean, and so driving the ball isn't the most crucial thing at Augusta you can get away with a lot of

Aron Price  8:55
Mrs. inventario to say you always got to swing but you still got to make the shot, you know, the links courses.

Billy Horschel  8:59
You know, you don't always have to have a good short game because you can put the credit from anywhere off the green. You know, obviously, you know, some you know, you didn't have to drive the ball that well because a lot of times you're not even trying to the fairway sometimes in certain courses. You're just trying to put it over there to get away from a pot bunker or something like that. And then you just play you know, so there's a little more strategic, I think, and a links style setup in an Open Championship.

Aron Price  9:23
I will concede that the historic USMC isn't going to Wingfoot Oakmont you know, thinking of chambers bay or maybe even the new Pinehurst.

Matt Every  9:30
Chambers way it's Billy's favorite. What happened at chambers Bay.

Billy Horschel  9:35
It's a beautiful, sunny, beautiful scenery.

Matt Every  9:39
Man. What happened this week's ever and the worst weeks ever. They tried to do fescue graded disaster I would drew on Friday, I had a stomachache, but I also couldn't make a two footer on those. Not many people could trust me. Billy's antics, the Korean for all y'all remember that? There's like a gift out there Billy's doing the snake. cuz

Billy Horschel  10:00
I literally I actually I played really well that week and the greens were enabling can say well Jordan speak to that ball Jordan speak to the other guys that might understand Jordan speed who was the best player in the world at time Petenwell on him but even Jordan speed has said to me and said other people like they were awful they were really bad that.

Aron Price  10:19
It goes back which I think you're much better now than you were at changed but is the second part of the golf game is like how do I deal with this? The goal is to play well how do I not let this affect me you.

Matt Every  10:28
I tell your playing partners you miss a two footer that's not your fault you say? It's like hitting the sticking.

Aron Price  10:32
Down in the water like it doesn't happen very often but like you let that bother you for the next eight holes or do you just say hey, that happens. There's a bigger plan.

Billy Horschel  10:40
I remember I made the cut I birdied 18 that make the cutter come outside I played really well maybe shot even par or something moves up the leaderboard a little bit and I came out son that played really well. I think I birdied the first few holes or or got on the early and then I three putted from like 15 feet missed a two foot or like a three footer that was going in the hole and hit one of these because the greens were saying and just dirt and hit this one little pole little seed and knocked it like I mean six years from will knock that like a foot right and it didn't even touch the hole. It's like Blink and so we get on number nine we don't know Menai as part three I hit this unbelievable orange shot the way the pin was gonna go a little deep and it would come back and fed perfectly I had like this 10 For downhill I'm like I'm looking at the green I'm like I can't hit it firm because of not have a 10 feet come back so I hit it and the ball was like literally Plinko it was like sneaking and so then I miss it I go like this like a snake actually because that's what it's doing. I'm playing with Ryan Palmer and James Edmondson and they're fucking dying and laugh and right and I wind up shooting three on the poor of the final round so that's what people forget I shot through in there and I was one of the top five I had it was like fourth or fifth best round and obviously I got roasted and and then I said my comments afterwards in the comments were based off because I just I'm watching Fox and they're doing the first year covering it and they're blaming like all these guys are feeling the pressure this is why the missing three footers and and these greens are perfect and everything. I'm like fuck this.

Matt Every  12:02
Yeah, how far was Dustin's Putney three?

Billy Horschel  12:05
I had the same pot and regulation. Yeah, I was on a team of the hole above to the left. I had a same pot. He did. And I hit it. And I had the same little pot coming back and I made mine, thankfully. And it's like, we had two and a half feet, but I'm like, he's gonna miss this. I honestly think he's gonna miss this because my ball bounced all over and somehow slipped in. And he missed it. And I was like, well, he felt the pressure there. Yeah. And I was like, no, no.

Matt Every  12:27
It doesn't, doesn't feel anything.

Scott Riley  12:31
Well, that chambers Bay Fox another. I think Greg Norman was involved in that.

Aron Price  12:37
So another was joba ribbed a legit Buck was fine. Not terrible. I thought it was fine.

Billy Horschel  12:41
I've walked on the plane. So they had a charter plane the next morning going to travelers, and obviously, I said my comments after around, they're getting blown up all over social media. And I'm like, God, I feel awful about myself the next morning, like, why that I put myself out there. You know, people think I'm an idiot, or, you know, douchebag or whatever. And then I walk on the plane of this chart that we had, I was one of the last ones on. And all of a sudden, like, you know, a couple of catty start clapping for me and players then next, you know, like, you know, half the plane half the plane started clapping for me, because of my comments, because I said I was protecting. I wasn't saying it for myself, but I was protecting the field. I was protecting the players because they'd been getting ridiculed all week for stuff. And I was like, my comments weren't for myself. I was sort of it was more or less saying, Hey, this is ridiculous. We know we're not that bad. I'm protecting us for you know, the way these commentators are describing us on air.

Aron Price  13:34
It was awful. It didn't the USGA tell Fox you can't like ridicule the cool, yes, it was so bad that we have the technology. How is the grown up? How does that happen?

Billy Horschel  13:43
Because at fescue greens to try to make it like a links style course, and obviously, as we know anything on the West Coast, that poliana and those planted seeds are just so strong. They get on your shoes, they track the next you know, they just take over the greens, and now it's all piano and I heard it the greens are absolutely pure out there now, but another thing like Mike Davis called me Tuesday after the US Open two days later.

Aron Price  14:03
Shanna Jordison of Mark Davis.

Matt Every  14:05
I wouldn't shout him out. Go ahead.

Billy Horschel  14:07
He goes, Billy, I said, Mike, how you doing buddy? And said, Hey, I just want to apologize for last week, you know, and you know, that wasn't right by us. We messed up and I said, Mike, I said, I appreciate that. And he goes, you know, your comments were spot on, you know, you you said nothing wrong. I said, Mike, all you had to do. I said I wish you could say this publicly, because it would save my face a little bit, but it's not going to happen. But I said if you were to just at the beginning of week said hey, listen, we do not have greens out or championship caliber greens. We messed up, you know, we know it. We apologize, we're still gonna have the Open Championship, not one player would have bitched about it, not one player would have said anything because we had a similar situation. I think earlier that year at the Players Championship. Yes. And the greens were awful. And the tour came out early in the week and say, Listen, our greens aren't very good when we do them after this year. We mess up we mess up with some of our practices, um, that we were doing agronomy stuff, and they sent them memo out to the players to the to the media that didn't ask any player not to take a shot at the greens. But you know what not one player complained about the greens. I say listen, we know they're bad at two already had come out and made a statement. You know, it's unfortunate but while we've all got to deal with this week.

Scott Riley  15:16
That's wild. That's like an umpire or an official calling a player after making a bad call the next day, sorry, I ruined that game. You know, that was on me.

Billy Horschel  15:25
Angel Hernandez would be doing that every day.

Aron Price  15:27
But honesty's the best policy they would have. They should have been secure in their product and say, Hey, we tried something we missed the boat. So we're going to be a championship it's going to be a little bit more like an Open Championship with external.

Billy Horschel  15:38
It wasn't a bad golf course. And it wasn't a bad scenery. The greens were just not what they needed to be.

Matt Every  15:43
Scenery is great there. Oh, it's unbelievable. I'll go ahead and say that it's not the best golf course.

Scott Riley  15:48
I liked the train that runs by every now and that's just a needle addition.

Aron Price  15:51
I look into the day it was an entertaining championship with.

Matt Every  15:53
What happened in speed one he was the best in the world at time in DJ had that spot?

Aron Price  15:57
I still give it to DJ.

Billy Horschel  15:58
James Smith had a chance to win there. That's the first time we've ever heard of cam Smith at that point.

Aron Price  16:03
That's right. They finished Eagle the last finish to get his PGA Tour record.

Billy Horschel  16:07
Yeah, that's right. Yeah. had an unbelievable shot there. I think he made Eagle actually. I think he had an unbelievable shot went up the back of the hill came back for tap and Eagle at Dan Quinn on the bag.

Matt Every  16:16
Did he really? Yeah. guy used to work for ALS? Wasn't he hockey player? He's hockey player. That's right. I believe a couple more things for you let you go. Well, and have you watched any of the live? Have you watched any? Any golf shots hit on the Live tour on YouTube?

Billy Horschel  16:29
I have I have I probably have watched, you know, when I do watch his probably maybe 3045 minutes of it. I probably watched more of the one down Drow because I just I want to see what cam Did you know Richard Blaine's a good buddy. And I still got plenty of good friends over there. But I was sort of interested because I wanted to the teams that weren't expected to do well, the guys that were you know, I wanted those team to do well, I want those players to do well.

Scott Riley  16:54
So how do you like that format? Could you see the tour, maybe adopting some more of these I love the call outs of like, I want to play this team like that is pretty cool.

Billy Horschel  17:01
I think the call out is pretty cool. I think their press conference after the call out and the little shots they were trying to take at each other. It was cringe worthy. It was cringe worthy. It was manufactured. It wasn't natural at all, in my opinion. But I think I've said this from the very beginning. Do I think 54 whole shotgun starts with the way of golf and professional game? No, do I think there's some team aspect that we can incorporate over time? Yeah, I think that'd be really cool. Because I think that's obviously got some merit to it. I think you've seen you know, playing the Zurich championship with a partner and some of these other a QB shoot out. And when you said to CBS charity classic and some stuff like that was a big deal. Like that was really cool. I think the players enjoyed having a team or team members. So I think that could be something that could you know, materialize over time. But I just don't think a 50 fold shotgun start is is how you figure out who the best player that week is.

Scott Riley  17:54
And I love to see you and Matt at Zurich again, last year fi comm right here on the on the show.

Aron Price  18:00
Let us talk about that. To add to that. I think the two will go to a few more you got their elite fields, which makes sense. Some of the other tournaments will go to Team formats. Last year the Zurich had five of the top 10 in the world play a bit yet without looking bigger. That's the same amount as Bay Hill and memorial.

Billy Horschel  18:16
No, like, like I said at the players are enjoying it and they've seen it and the fans enjoy it. So it's really exciting. Like I said, you know, the live, I don't care about I mean, the Live Tour, I've never said anything bad about Saudi Arabia or or live itself or, you know, the what people will go about the blood money or the human rights that she's like, we're not going to get into that, like that's not gonna get into but I only I've never chastise a tour for anything or anything like that. I've only called people out for certain comments that I thought were pretty stupid.

Aron Price  18:46
And a little bit hypocritical, saying, I want this and I get on I do the other thing.

Scott Riley  18:50
So I did see a call out on a putting green.

Billy Horschel  18:51
So that was snow. That was funny. Actually, that was a hilarious situation.

Aron Price  18:55
So is there any news go? Who was it?

Billy Horschel  18:57
I don't think we may have talked about live for a brief second. So see Poulter and Lee Westwood Monday. We're talking about some stuff like I said, Lee, I, you know, I sort of took a shot at Yeah, and Golf Digest. You know, you said that we're copying you guys now because of we just announced a new format at two championship and I was like, listen, we ain't copied anybody. We've had small fields. We've had the amount of parses before yada, yada, yada, may not have a team championship. And we don't do shotgun starts fiscal holes. But you guys still a concept. Somebody Andy Gardner, and the Premier League, your group stole what Andy Garner created and you guys pawn it off as you guys created this entire thing. So we got a little laugh out of that. And then, you know, I knew I was going to have to interview and I knew they were going to ask him about the guys playing that week and what my thoughts were and I didn't I didn't know how he's gonna go about and I've sort of by Tuesday afternoon went for I said, Okay, this one I'm going to do as much as I think Poulter and Lee Westwood, they have some merit to be there. They've been European Tour players. They've helped a tour. They've done some unbelievable thing. And they could also help the tour grow back what they've lost during COVID, I'm going to put everyone into one can and just say none of these guys should be here. You know, they made the decision when they decided to go to live, they factor in how much money they need to go, knowing that they may not be able to play for any of these tours, knowing that they may not be able to get any world ranking points. So they all factor that into the decision. And if any one of them says that's not true, then I would, yeah, I would say.

Matt Every  20:26
A lot should have been factored in there, the Human Rights thing, everything, you're gonna have to wear that and then.

Aron Price  20:30
What Billy is saying is like, they come up with a number, the number is this, if I can't play xx, xx, I want this number for sure. Say live to a set, okay, we'll pay you X. All now you want, you got X, you're trying to get y as well.

Billy Horschel  20:42
And so and then I saw Poulter and Lee at the hotel a couple hours later, I said, Hey, boys, just want to let you know, this is what I said in my comments. And we had a great little conversation for an hour outside the hotel. I think that what people are missing here is that I don't hate anyone over there. It's couple guys aren't really liked that much. So I'm not upset that they left. But a lot of guys I still respect a lot I still consider them friends. I'm still great golfers still great people, we may differ in our opinions and how we see things and but we can still respectfully disagree and have a conversation. And so then I see pull through on the putting green on Wednesday, you know, I go over it, we start talking about probably something with like arsenal and West Ham and some football or something. And then I just talked to him about it. Luke Poulter, who's just started at Florida, how he's getting, how's everything sort of going over there. And then somehow, we started talking about the live thing and a couple other things. And then, during this entire little 30 minute conversation on the putting me on, like, man, Someone's probably filming this, they're going to put it out, and this isn't going to look good. So I'm looking around, and I'll see a camera and then a couple hours later, I get a text from Rex heartgard. He said, Hey, Billy, you know, I'm sorry, I have to ask this. I just have to do my job report on it. What were you in pulled to talking about in the putting green? I'm like, What do you mean? And he said, there's a video going around and looks pretty animated. Brittany, my wife was there. So she showed me and I just started laughing. I'm like, Rex, I'm like, honestly, it had nothing. It looks worse than what it is. I said, you have two guys are very animated that you'd like to use their hands. And, and honestly had, it was an innocent conversation between two friends that, you know, looked a lot worse. And I said, and so then poelten I did a little skiff of it. You know, little voice overshot. You know, and so, but sometimes the golf world is very bored and how it went like they want to make something bigger than what it is like when Scottie Scheffler walked in between Kim and his ball.

Aron Price  22:29
Is that everyone's like, Oh, this is lived like no Scottish chef, it was just half asleep, Chris, I was like hands like, you know.

Billy Horschel  22:35
The funny thing is, is that I'm not frosty to any one of those guys like, it is what it is like they made the decision. I'm not frosty. I don't you know, I don't stay up at night thinking about, you know, how can I attack these guys or the what these guys think. But there are certain guys over there that are that way. And they've sort of you know, whenever you sort of try to have a conversation with them when you do see them, even though I've said some things and I've said it to their face too, as well. I just sort of, you know, they give me a cold shoulder. I'm like really, you're gonna go that way about it. Like I've already said like, I'm happy for you. You took money. Now you may be hypocritical in some of your comments that you said, but it's just funny that some of them you know are frosty in that in that situation. And I'm like, What do you guys have to be so upset about? Like you guys are playing golf still? You've got a guaranteed amount of money for you know that you took that is awesome. Where it's really cool. You've never seen in the game of golf. And you're playing for 20 plus million dollars a week. I mean, what is your issue?

Scott Riley  23:31
Did they come after you? Did you get an an IRL deal from live

Matt Every  23:35
But all right over under? I know you got the I know you probably got an offer from them.

Billy Horschel  23:40
I never got a financial offer. There was a conversation held up beginning a year.

Matt Every  23:44
20 mil a year over under Do you think you've kind of got more a lot more?

Billy Horschel  23:48
Oh, I would need a lot more 20 mil a year 20 mil a year? Oh, I thought you said 20 How many? No. I mean, so it's you know, 80 million. That number which sort of, you know, sort of piqued my interest. I'm not gonna lie. Phil got 200 Yeah, I think Phil got 200.

Matt Every  24:03
That is such a steal, guys not worth $2.

Aron Price  24:07
There's but there's two different roms thinking if you're a person that is legacy chasing championships chasing that, you know, in a day go to sleep at night and like who you are and what you want in your life. But other guys like when I came it doesn't even know wouldn't have a clue how many top 10s He has right doesn't have any wins he has. He just wants to finish and if someone can pay more, he didn't know so everything is individual. And Billy I think understands that more than anyone.

Billy Horschel  24:30
I love Cam McCain, all my best friends and I stick up to him to this day. Cam has always said like he loves golf. But he doesn't love it like I love golf. No, no, exactly. And so cam has always said he only wants to play to a certain age. He loves a fish. He has so many other hobbies. Obviously, you know he doesn't get to go home very much off as much as you'd like. He's very similar in me came from no money. So here he is. He's got a money that sets him up for the rest of his life sets helps out his family does everything he needs. And so it's different. And honestly I said I could not wrap my head around the criticism that I would receive going there not just for a week or two, but for the rest of my career by going to lift. That is one of the main reasons why I didn't go. And so that was one of the main reasons and the other one being, I want to legacy where I got remembered for what I did on the golf course. And that's how people have always been remembered. Not for how much money they made.

Aron Price  25:21
Yeah, so very different. Like I legitimately think, like when we're around kid, whenever we talk about golf, he sent me a fishing cause any it's ours coffee. I think he likes competition way more than he loves go. Yeah. So this somewhat makes sense to me can go home for three months. But for other guys, it makes no sense like a guy who's like a Justin Thomas or a horse who like want to win 12 majors or 12 tournaments. You can't obviously do that.

Billy Horschel  25:46
I think knowing Cam, you know, he doesn't like the monotonous grind of practicing and going about that way. He loves competing. He loves being the heat of the moment. But practicing on a regular basis and spending hours and hours getting better and that monotonous style. Like that's not Cam.

Aron Price  26:02
I would say the opposite spectrum is Vijay Singh and Cam Smith. Vijay is a student of the game is better understand loves golf, loves helping other golfers there on the background, your TVC has helped Golf was financially and also swing loves it. Games like I want to get here. I'm here. My coach, so I gotta be here for one hour. I got a sense of swings heard I'm getting out of it.

Billy Horschel  26:21
Yeah. I mean, listen, cams, not when he was at TPC. He's not very rarely did I see him stay past, you know, 830 his hours are different than his hours were? Well, obviously, I don't have kids. So I mean, he does have kids, but you know, he'd get there sort of like right when the sun came up, and he'd be gone by 830. And then he'd be on his boat fishing.

Aron Price  26:40
But he's going back to the anger Powell. I obviously are not inside that part anymore. But I don't understand why people are so angry. I'm not going to mention names. But for you guys and signed songs. They're angry. I'm like, why are you angry? Like so you want your friends? My decision to go on another tour? Your tour is now playing for more money. The live guys should be happy the two ago should be happy. I don't understand the animosity. I really don't.

Billy Horschel  27:01
I agree with you. I don't get it. I mean, I don't have any animosity towards any of those guys at all. Some of these guys feel betrayed, which I know. I don't get, you know,

Matt Every  27:09
That's sets so soft. So I don't want to get it. It's not a big deal.

Billy Horschel  27:13
It really I mean,

Aron Price  27:14
You worry about yourself, your family and your friends, right? You're like why you worry about someone I listen to my family.

Billy Horschel  27:20
The guys that left, they left they made their decision they left there's 30 Other plus guys in the waiting in the pipeline waiting to take their spots, whether it be on the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry tour, college, there's, there's a deep hole, PGA Tour always be fine. You know, 100 PGA Tour always be fine. Now, competitions, I've always said is a good thing. And it's actually helped the PGA Tour, there's a lot of things that a lot of players have tried to get done behind closed doors for a handful plus years, and the tour just never really, you know, wanted to do it. But now we're in a position where they have to do it, which is great. And lesson for the good. Exactly. And so, you know, I'm happy that the PGA Tour is making changes and, and we're going to be fine, we're we're going to improve as an organization, we're going to get better we're going to finally grow where I was worried about with the product model we had for the six last 60 plus years, was it sustainable for 25 years, you know, in 25 years time and and that being, you know, the increases in sponsorship and everything else you're going to require, or they're going to still be able to increase at the levels they've been with the product that we had. And I'm not saying the players, but the model that we had to, you know, because it was sort of becoming just, you know, guys were over it. They wanted something different sponsors want something different for the money, TV wants something different printing money.

Aron Price  28:37
And the 25 year olds today and a lot the 25 year olds 20 years ago, like the Internet has changed. The brain chemistry honestly, like people will need to be entertained. You can't hold people's attention for long. You need to do stuff different. So I think I think the PGA Tour is in great shape. I think the lives in great shape. We'll see. It'll work out one check. Let's

Matt Every  28:59
Check back on the live in two years. Yeah.

Aron Price  29:01
Yeah, for sure. And I'm not saying that either.

Billy Horschel  29:03
I'm gonna say this, the tour is gonna be fine. We're still nowhere. I mean, there's still changes becoming mature over the next couple years. And it's this isn't going away for a couple of years. But do I think the Live tour is going to be successful. This isn't me, you know, knocking them any sense. It's just me looking at it from trying to look out from the outside from a financial standpoint, but they spent close to two and a half billion dollars this year, they're going to sign some more guy. So they're going to spend probably another half million dollars signing players for next year. And whatever they're, you know, another three quarters of billion dollars in purchases and everything else are doing. So unless they get a TV deal, unless they get sponsorships. I just don't think they're going to be around because doesn't matter how much money you have. You don't want to lose money. And if you're spending, you know, a billion dollars a year on this endeavor, and I'm not getting anything in return. Nobody likes to lose money. I don't care how much money.

Matt Every  29:53
If you cared about.an ROI, you would not give film like Phil Mickelson $1 If you cared about an ROI over there.

Aron Price  30:00
He wouldn't. He's not your statement. No, no, look, I don't.

Matt Every  30:04
I mean his game. I'm not not I'm not like, yeah, no, nothing. It feels like I'm not knocking him or is he's just not like, he's not a top 100 player in the world anymore. He's not.

Scott Riley  30:15
It feels like the emotional distress of some of these decisions says definitely leaked over to their golf games. Yeah.

Billy Horschel  30:21
No doubt. I mean, Graeme McDowell talked about it recently. And Graeme McDowell has one of the greatest reputations in golf. Unbelievable guy well liked doesn't mean I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about Graham. And then he went over there. And he's, you know, he recently I saw some comments, he said, he shouldn't have talked, answer some of the questions. He tried to answer it early on, and try and justify, or make, you know, whatever reason, but he's a great guy, he's not a bad guy going to doesn't make him a bad guy. Now, I don't fault them. He was Was he mid to late 40s.

Matt Every  30:51
He got those guys, more than anything.

Billy Horschel  30:53
I don't follow any of those guys. And so I said, I don't know what's going to happen with live financially, I just don't know how you can continue to lose money. If you're not bringing in money. You know, you hear comments that if they don't get a TV deal, and this is what I've heard recently, last month, if they don't get a TV deal, within the next 18 months, they're going to close up shop, the financial backers and say we're done. And from everything I've heard from on the out, you know, out there doesn't look like they're gonna get a TV deal. And I mean, a TV deal where they're being paid, or and they're gonna be able to be on air. It's like, generate ad revenue, we need ad revenue. Right now they're paying for their TV deal. Well, they only have a TV deal, are they gonna pay Fox? Well, supposedly, but Fox has posted air the one and drama and didn't air. So even if they pay for the TV deal.

Aron Price  31:38
It goes back to the conversation of ROI.

Billy Horschel  31:41
They need sponsors to come in. And, you know, they need a MasterCard, they need a Zurich, they need, you know, our workday to come in and say, Hey, listen, we're gonna, we're gonna put 50 million behind this on a yearly basis. Like, I don't know if those companies are going to do that.

Scott Riley  31:55
And there's no outreach from that tour to bring in the community. And that that I'm hearing well, that starting.

Billy Horschel  32:01
The thing I will say, and I did talk to a sponsor, you know, after the London event, I said, Do you think it's a viable product? And he said, Yes, the reason it's a viable product is because they know what their product is going to be. Week in and week out. They know that we can get everybody to play these weeks, and that is very enticing to our sponsor, because the sponsor knows Hey, listen, I'm gonna get Dustin Johnson. Kim Smith, Bryson D. Shambo. Patrick Reed. Taylor Gooch, Shawn Michaels. Yeah, Phil Mickelson.

Aron Price  32:31
They're not dumb people just throw money at like, they'd been early, Uber like stuff like that guy, I forget his name, whatever his name is Mark or something is very, very smart guy. So this is not like, oh, we just throw it at the wall that there's merit behind it from from what I've understood.

Billy Horschel  32:44
From being the sovereign wealth fund is very well done. And that in public investment fund that they have that they invested with Newcastle and everything, the football club and UK, like they've done some really good investments. And I think the thing that is people have an issue with golf with them is that, and I'm not sure if it's them, or if it's Greg Norman, you know, if they would have tried to really come within the ecosystem and work within the ecosystem. I think we've could have done a deal. But I think they've come in and they've, they've sort of said, hey, you know, where are all these other sports, they've worked with an ecosystem to say, hey, we can take over golf here. And I think that's what has, you know, rubbed people the wrong way and turn people off is that they're coming in trying to take over golf, because they have a checkbook that doesn't have it has an endless amount of zeros to it. Yeah, it's very interesting. I think it's interesting to see what happened.

Aron Price  33:33
Yeah, I think everyone should be not excited but like, not negative. Just see what happens.

Billy Horschel  33:38
I mean, listen, it's gonna be interesting. I mean, we're nowhere close to seeing what's going to happen. You know, when I've watched a little bit I have washed up it on on streaming or whatever, whatever it whatever it is, they show it on there seems like the fans out there but it doesn't seem like there's.

Aron Price  33:52
I went to Miami for die. There was a lot in Miami. But you know, I think other parts of the world I don't know how many were in Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. But yeah, it's starting up we'll see I just interested as a golfing. I've got friends on both sides saying but I'm not worried. I'm just let it happen. Yeah.

Matt Every  34:08
We could dive so far into this. I mean, there's so many angles you come at this from?

Scott Riley  34:12
Well, here we are in a post Live World, though. And I do like some of the force change that it has made the tour, accelerate their timelines on whatever type of projects.

Billy Horschel  34:24
I'll say one thing for people to think that the tour just found 100 plus million dollars or whatever the money they found, you know, make us some of the changes like the money's always been.

Aron Price  34:34
Yeah, it's just been designated in other asset.

Billy Horschel  34:36
It's been designated other aspects areas. It was going to come at a slower rate. They've just accelerated that rate that we wouldn't get the money.

Matt Every  34:43
The argument that the tour was hiding money is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life.

Aron Price  34:49
It's embarrassing. It is the tax returns my public every single year.

Billy Horschel  34:52
Kevin kisor said it this way, you know, because I think he's off the board in a year. And he is a board member. So three players He's getting elected to the board. I've heard there's four players elected to the board that aren't on board every year and he was elected two or three year term as every player that does that is and I think he's coming off either this year or next year.

Aron Price  35:10
What voting machines do they use on to.

Matt Every  35:12
Yeah, that's debatable by the way, there's there might be two or three that are voted on but I promise you this last one, all right. No fist fucking way. One of those guys was voted on there.

Billy Horschel  35:22
Okay. So someone I remember sitting with kids or somewhere and someone goes so have your two or three years be on the board? What have you learned and kids are being kids and he says, I realized tour doesn't fuck us over as much as everyone thinks they do.

Matt Every  35:36
Well, how about that? No way they don't they he also has one of the best lines ever. They one of those like anonymous interviews it was he could die and come back is anything what would you be and he said to her wife had no kids.

Scott Riley  35:53
Billy, thank you for taking the time out of your your day to come hang out with us.

Billy Horschel  35:57
Pleasurable, boys. That was fun. Anytime. I'm excited to see more of you guys's guest and yeah.

Scott Riley  36:03
We got Cam coming in a couple of weeks.

Billy Horschel  36:05
Oh, perfect. Yeah, you guys we need to push this out there. You'll be back. But yeah, you guys will be the best you guys. Obviously you guys just you know hear your podcast has got to kill it. There's no one better than the game of golf, really isn't. I mean.

Matt Every  36:18
Are you gonna start selling a CBD now?

Aron Price  36:23
I'm trying to say I'm a terrible slave rum. I'm on board with a test subject.

Scott Riley  36:28
I was awesome.

Billy Horschel  36:29
Thanks, guys.
