Matt Every  0:00
Rest of the year what are the goals?

Tom Hoge  0:01
I'm not a big goal guy. I mean I just try to feel like I keep getting better and kind of take that each day and see where it takes you but my problem with goals, set these outcome goals and this and that and some golf courses just not gonna have a chance to stack up

Matt Every  0:16
Welcome back to another episode of Straight Down the Middle'ish. Today, we have one of my one of my best friends on tour. My practice round partner and god damn, your 33rd in the world right now. Tom Hoge!

Tom Hoge  0:33
I'm nervous every time you're gonna speak here today.

Matt Every  0:38
33rd in the world!

Aron Price  0:39
That is for good reason, Tom.

Matt Every  0:40
It's pretty sick.

Tom Hoge  0:41
Yeah, I've got it together a little bit since our days there in the practice rounds.

Matt Every  0:45
You had it then too. You had it then too.

Aron Price  0:48
Matt takes credit for all.

Tom Hoge  0:50
Yeah, he should. I learned a lot from him.

Matt Every  0:53
Do you think some of the heat that we had, like on our little nine hole stents prepped you for some big moments?

Tom Hoge  1:02
I like preparing that way where you've got putts. That means something coming down the stretch there because you feel like you've done it a little bit to start off the week. And I wish you were still out there that we can keep it going.

Matt Every  1:12
I know. Tuesday is gonna suck now.

Tom Hoge  1:14
Yeah.

Matt Every  1:14
Do they?

Tom Hoge  1:15
Well, this week, especially, you know, I was out here yesterday, practice a little bit. I mean, there's a long time from Sunday to get to Thursday.

Matt Every  1:22
Right.

Matt Every  1:23
Especially if you've been to these places before. It's like, you know,  Tuesday.

Tom Hoge  1:28
I get bored pretty fast, though.

Matt Every  1:30
Oh, yeah, naturally you do. But Tuesday in general for a veteran is. It's kind of like going through the motions a little bit, you know, if you...Maybe some maintenance on your swing, but for sure if you've seen it before. You're just trying to get through the day to Wednesday.

Tom Hoge  1:47
Yeah!

Aron Price  1:47
The backstory is these guys would have some high stakes, nine holes, which I did love, witnessed one at Windham. I love those nine holes. It wasn't it was never 18. It was like, You know what out there.

Tom Hoge  1:59
It would get to get pretty expensive if we tried to do that for 18 holes. But uh...

Aron Price  2:03
It was like a sprint, which is more pressure like, you know, seemingly under the pump.

Tom Hoge  2:07
It kind of started right about Bay Hill and players right before COVID hit that matter. Just ask if you want to play at Bay Hill. And I showed up like 10 minutes where we're gonna tee off at 7:15 or whatever. And he's like, Hey, you want a game? I'm like, sure. Like, that's gonna be 20 bucks or 50 bucks.

Matt Every  2:23
Oh, yeah. Right. You were not thinking that.

Tom Hoge  2:25
Whatever the policies are usually played.

Matt Every  2:28
Yeah.

Tom Hoge  2:28
Like, I'll just play for 500 here. All right. Should have known that at Bay Hill. Of course. Did I get? Of course I just never lost the Bay Hill.

Matt Every  2:38
Come on. Yeah, plenty of time. I kind of remember that. But our game it transferred into this. We started doing well.

Tom Hoge  2:49
We got put on pause due to COVID. There. Yeah. So then coming out of COVID. You know, there are no programs or anything. So we had Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday to just fire that best ever. By the way.

Scott Riley  3:00
You know, we're coming up. This is the third anniversary of really the start of COVID. And when we shut down, shut down all of major sports. I mean, what a restart and Golf was the first thing that came back. I mean, it was kind of surreal, thing and think about how everything used to be. Here we are in this just wild world. Two new golf leagues.

Aron Price  3:23
Crazy. Yeah. No, no one will. No one will play the high stakes Tuesday.

Tom Hoge  3:29
I haven't really found anybody.

Matt Every  3:31
Gambling on tour is not that prevalent anymore. I feel like I feel like the best...

Aron Price  3:36
Don't give away the secret but it's exponential the way you guys gamble says 123.

Matt Every  3:43
So it's a full on junkie game. No, I thought you came up.

Tom Hoge  3:48
Some It wasn't your caddy. Somebody came up with the idea because you just wanted to play auto one downs for 200. And then they said let's make every every hole within each. Right. So if you said three to one, it's 600 400 200.

Matt Every  4:01
Right? Yeah. 32136 That's one of the... If you win, if there's a bunch of holes exchanged and then you somehow peel off the last three. You're looking pretty solid. You're paying for your caddy. Yeah, it was a blast. Dude, I had so much fun playing I kept Tuesday's like, bearable. Honestly,

Aron Price  4:20
it was fun to watch the couple of times. I did. Yeah.

Matt Every  4:23
So what do you think about all these changes? Now with the tour? It's you're kind of the guy. That's, I mean, you're inside inside it,

Aron Price  4:30
But you've lived both. So...

Matt Every  4:32
You've been on both sides recently.

Tom Hoge  4:34
Yeah, I mean, I hate it from the standpoint that playing opportunities are being taken away more than anything. And I guess that would be my question. If you ask the guys that are making these decisions. My first question is, what is the total number of playing opportunities that we're losing for a whole season? Because you start talking Pebble Beach, you take Quail Hollow that are 156 Mansfields. It'll be 70. I mean, you're 80-90 spots right there. And, you know, I've got to think we're going to lose tournaments in the fall as well. So I think you're talking about upwards of 1000 playing spots being lost throughout the season, which is a big deal to me.

Aron Price  5:12
The good thing I think, is it's not set in stone and I think the two whether you can say that did right things wrong things. I think I've learnt to listen more to the players. I feel like go back two years ago, wouldn't listen to it. Maybe the top few guys.

Tom Hoge  5:25
Well, they're listening to the top 20. They're not. I wouldn't say that. Anybody else right now? That's the problem.

Matt Every  5:30
Let's go ask James Hans on that. Right.

Aron Price  5:32
Yeah. James Hans sticking to his guns. And look, it's whether it's right or wrong. He's speaking from the heart, which is cool. He's not putting up a wall and no comment or but he's, I think there'll be plenty of people in the locker room that would agree with him not saying a majority, but it's not like he's out there on a hill.

Tom Hoge  5:50
Yeah, I mean, look, we're all getting paid a lot more money, which is great. But like I said, there's, I'm concerned about the playing opportunity side of it. And I don't know my deal keeps coming back to what's the what's the 10 year plan here down the road, where are we going to end up? And I just don't like that we keep making changes and changes and changes on the fly as we're going.

Matt Every  6:16
And I think there's like it's been that way for the last since COVID really.

Aron Price  6:20
I don't think the elevated events make sense where you try and what it was a salary or whatever it get a stable like these top 10s that have been playing the last few weeks, but I don't think it really necessarily needs to be without a cut. There needs to be opportunities where guys can come in. Otherwise, if you're in that top 50 It's going to be so hard to fall out of that top 50. You're going to have so much more opportunity than the 60th guy who or if he doesn't get get back in that yields.

Scott Riley  6:44
But there's also so many great stories and journeyman golfers that are you know essentially going to be missing out on these playing opportunities.

Aron Price  6:52
But I understand where the top have come from apparently I don't know. But Roger Federer was like that big time. He's like on the one that's putting people in seats. Why don't I get paid? So not to sit on the fence but I can see both sides of the argument perfectly. But but said Jay Monahan has a tough job ahead. How do you but how do you please everyone?

Tom Hoge  7:12
I'd just be curious if if you said Okay, pick your top guys. He had 20 in the PIP so is the top 20 We're focusing on driver 30. Whatever it is.

Aron Price  7:22
Hate the PIP.

Tom Hoge  7:22
But if you just said okay, well, if 31 on down, say we're not going to play this week. Yeah. Then what? What kind of? I mean, isn't that true? Yeah. Because then do people do people tune in to watch a 30 man field? I mean, because that's kind of their argument they're making.

Aron Price  7:37
That PIP's gonna go backwards anyway. It's going from 100 bed to 50. It's not it's that's not the answer.

Tom Hoge  7:46
But I'm just saying they're putting, they're putting all their eggs in this basket for the top guys. Is it only the top guys that matter? Is it the whole tour? Because like you're saying, I think that there's a lot of storylines, that, you know, you look at the Honda with Chris Kirk and Eric Cole battling out and I thought that's just as compelling as coming down the stretch at Bay Hill.

Matt Every  8:04
Absolutely.

Scott Riley  8:05
So it makes the PGA Tour beautiful and somebody you know, dreaming of winning a tour event, or not winning one for eight years. The storylines. I mean, you can't write those you can't script a Tour event.

Aron Price  8:17
That's why it's a good thing. Q school is coming back with the opportunity for the club Pro or whoever to get onto the PGA Tour with a couple of cards.

Matt Every  8:24
It sounds even that's ridiculous. Five spots. I mean.

Aron Price  8:28
It's better than no spots.

Matt Every  8:29
But that's ridiculous. And the head

Matt Every  8:31
play good. Sure. You better be really good, and then get really lucky. You know,

Aron Price  8:36
But I don't know. And I think the college kid coming out. I think the top college kid does deserve a spot on Tour. Call me crazy. We never got that opportunity.

Matt Every  8:44
But yeah, every other sport it happens.

Tom Hoge  8:46
I haven't seen it have the TV ratings been that much better for these elevated events that nowadays yours?

Matt Every  8:52
I don't know that answer.

Tom Hoge  8:53
I mean, you know, it's interesting, because you got a great leaderboard at Bay Hill. Yeah. But they but every year that golf course just separates so well the top players come to the top anyways. Yeah, firm greens. So it separates. I mean, you've had these great leaderboards that all three of these elevated events.

Matt Every  9:09
There are certain courses that exactly there are certain courses that no matter what you're gonna get a great leaderboard. Yeah, the way it shakes out. Boston was like that. I hated the golf course. But it was one of those courses where the same 10 guys are gonna play good there.

Tom Hoge  9:26
So my question is, do you really need all of the top guys to play the same tournaments? In elevated events?

Aron Price  9:36
I think you do. Because the NFL you have a stable elite product. But I understand as a top player, why you don't want to why would you want to play like Chris Cook was gonna play Riviere this year because it was elevated. Then finally realize after me helping him miss the cut on the bag of Phoenix. He's like, I'm going to I'm going to earn more points, which is it was 47th in the world trying to hang on to Augusta and what match he plays in, I'm going to earn more points playing Honda than I am at Riviera, I don't play well, it Riviera. It doesn't matter if it's 50 million. So that's where a golf is different. It's hard to compare that to the NFL or to the NHL, with the elite playing every game. So, I don't know.

Tom Hoge  10:16
I'd be curious and I think I think the answer is going to have to come through more for TV ratings, that sort of stuff. But...

Matt Every  10:21
I think there needs to be more movement within that 70 Guys like more opportunity to come in and more more opportunity to go out.

Aron Price  10:30
There is going to opportunity coming on as 10 coming in the current 10 which may slide to you know 46th on the current money was getting so there is gonna be opportunity to get in. But we'll see as long as these pail happy people don't get in. You can't get stuck because you're popular but I do understand. Look, the tournament is putting down 20.

Matt Every  10:53
I remember once. I remember like four or five I might even like five years ago. I think it was Jay's first year whenever that was. There was an email that got sent out and it was, hey, we're doing this new thing where if you whoever grows their presence on social media the most wins 100 grand and then second place was 50 and third was 25. And it was like if Aaron Price had 1000 followers and you had 20,000 It was basically body fat, dumb my body fat percentage percentage of growth. Yes. So I remember emailing Jay back and being like this is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life. We're promoting narcissism and insecurity like that's all yeah, that's all this is. What and here we are. Here we are now we have a PIP.

Aron Price  11:46
But I guess I won't mention the name of the Tour. It keeps, always sounds good. Nothing to do with social media when clearly it does because I guess you can't lay one of the FedEx that you didn't get a cent and PRP doesn't participate I don't know. It's a mess but I think it's all gonna work out just fine.

Matt Every  12:06
What are you.. What do you got for New Orleans this year? JJ Henry?

Tom Hoge  12:11
I got Harris English.

Matt Every  12:12
Really? Good. Yeah. Whoa. About enough grades.

Tom Hoge  12:15
Yeah, I played. Just kidding. I played with Sahith Theegala at the QB the only one in December.

Aron Price  12:23
He won that one. Congrats!

Tom Hoge  12:25
Had already committed to playing with Justin Suh. I was trying to talk to him. I was like, man, if you like money, I mean we could try to do this again.  But I think Harris will work out good. He started play pretty dang good. I played with him the first few days at Bay Hill last week. He was playing pretty nice.

Matt Every  12:40
 Yeah, flushing it.

Scott Riley  12:41
Yeah. He had a look around

Aron Price  12:43
Any early team talk of what T shirts or anything? Has anything been discussed? Now? Let's work it out on the Tuesday

Matt Every  12:50
There's no weakness on that team.

Scott Riley  12:52
Walk up song

Tom Hoge  12:52
We're gonna need a walk up song. So we'll take some applications for that one.

Tom Hoge  12:52
Yeah, so even though the national championship no bad blood, the TCU.

Tom Hoge  13:00
No. It's actually funny. He had texted me right before the game started and said what's the bet on the game? And I said, Well, if you'd like to see your wins, you got to play that you got to play in New Orleans with me thinking I was hedging it that way. But it all worked out. I guess.

Matt Every  13:16
That's a good one. We had Kirk in here and he was wearing his 65 to seven shirt.

Tom Hoge  13:22
I heard about that. I saw Chromie at the course he said you got to see Chris this shirt today. He chose violence today. And

Matt Every  13:27
he did he did.

Scott Riley  13:30
It's good. It's good.

Matt Every  13:31
I want Bama to go back to being dominant. So bad. I'm I'm tired of Georgia being now.

Tom Hoge  13:38
That's what about the Gators always? Let's go.

Aron Price  13:45
Where's Urban's next move?

Matt Every  13:49
No clue. What's he doing now? Right.

Tom Hoge  13:51
Maybe the next FL

Matt Every  13:53
hasn't he already tried that?

Scott Riley  13:56
He tried the NFL.

Matt Every  13:58
What is he doing now? I see. But he Oh, he's working for Fox. Yeah, they

Scott Riley  14:01
took him right back in the bush. seat was still here. Come on Jacksonville for what eight games.

Matt Every  14:09
We got our guy.

Scott Riley  14:10
That was the best thing to happen to the Jacksonville Jaguars was Obermeyer coming in. And just absolutely, if he'd won six games, you can't fire him. Because they only won one. The prior Hoosier approaching

Matt Every  14:24
my rings I

Tom Hoge  14:24
I really don't have one. I grew up a Lions fan and they were so bad for so long. I kind of lost interest and then, you know, whoever I'll be betting on will be the team that day. But I came into TCU it was a year that Romo dropped the extra point up in Seattle. And everybody was having a meltdown around there. So I wrote against the Cowboys, it's about loyalty. I really have. I live in in fort worth rooting against the Cowboys, and it's great when they lose, man. Everybody's going nuts. Really it's awesome. Every year, every year is the same I mean, eight and eight. Now they gotta go eight, eight and one just to dominate and

Matt Every  14:57
They're always gonna they're always the team that might you know, do something thing this year? Yeah. I mean, Zeke, I have a thing, Zeke. If his name was like, Mike, he wouldn't even be in the league.

Scott Riley  15:06
I know. He can't run the ball for. So

Tom Hoge  15:11
do you think you could beat him in the 40 right now?

Matt Every  15:13
No.

Aron Price  15:15
That's interesting question. Like not shocked at that. North Dakota, you don't really have any sports teams but who the people

Matt Every  15:23
are a powerhouse in North Dakota State. Yeah,

Tom Hoge  15:26
I grew up going to their games, but generally, I mean, everybody's either packers or Vikings fans up there.

Matt Every  15:32
Okay. I'll fire was was Green Bay from you. That's a

Tom Hoge  15:36
way is Minneapolis is three and a half hours. So that was the closest.

Aron Price  15:40
The Vikings need fans. I need some help. They've been struggling.

Tom Hoge  15:45
They got a good team. But Kirk Cousins probably didn't get them real far.

Matt Every  15:48
It's not what's your favorite sport to bet on? College basketball?

Tom Hoge  15:54
Either college basketball, college football. I would say and I would say I'm terrible at both of them. And I really haven't gambled at all and about the last year on a sport

Scott Riley  16:03
So you just fall on it or just not zero?

Aron Price  16:06
Is there an intervention that?

Tom Hoge  16:07
No? Well, it was kind of the same cycle that would happen every year. I go to TCU fall practice in August. I'm like, man, we got a lot of talent, and they look great. We're gonna be good. I'd find a bookie and take some action. And that was always like over seven and a half wins. We're doing that easily. It'd be a pretty big bet on that. And then then the account would be open the whole year. So it slowly ease my way. In next thing, you know, I'm betting every first half second half. lf you really want to experience betting it's the NBA first quarter. I mean, that is talking about a rush. Oh my gosh, you're sweating every possession. I lost every year in the TCU. 0 for seven and a half that. And then it was funny, because this year, we're playing in Colorado and like a Thursday or Friday night for the first game. And the bookie, he texts me he's like, Hey, you want you're seeing bet on TCU? And I was like, no, go fuck yourself. I don't want that bet. 12 and 0. National championship.

Matt Every  17:04
Yeah, it's been a year with us in both games. The semi final and I did.

Tom Hoge  17:08
The semi-final worked out well. It's my mom was in Phoenix. And I go out there before we get to Hawaii. So I was right there. And then flew back from Hawaii for the national championship. And I booked all of our flights, hotels, everything right after the game. My wife Kelly was flying back home to Texas from Phoenix with some friends. And I was like, I think it's gonna work out great. As long as we don't get blown out. Then we got blown up.

Matt Every  17:32
I remember watching that being so obvious. I think the whole world's pulling for TCU except for Georgia fans. And it was just like the three minutes in.

Scott Riley  17:41
You can tell.

Tom Hoge  17:42
We had a few chances earlier that they missed some open throws that were big boys.

Scott Riley  17:46
Or boys versus men. Yeah. Momentum game.

Tom Hoge  17:46
I forget the title in Washington, I think yeah, number zero. The big guy. Darnell, they came they came out like the first series right in front of us sitting there. I'm like, I'm just gonna watch Washington. And I mean, I think...

Aron Price  18:01
They've it's a game that's played against Georgia the week before and they don't have the big win. Maybe they compete but...

Matt Every  18:06
They shouldn't have even been there. Ohio State but I guess.

Tom Hoge  18:10
But Washington these guys. I mean, they were walking our defensive end six yards back off the line of scrimmage. You're like...

Matt Every  18:17
What are we going to do? Yeah, just inevitable.

Tom Hoge  18:21
I saw something interesting afterwards. One of those kinds of TCU stats guys just made the point that Georgia could have done that to pretty much anybody they played this year. They kind of just let off the gas. Second half every time. This was one of the first games they went 60 minutes and said we're putting it on

Matt Every  18:37
Yeah, we're Yeah, yeah, I could see that.

Scott Riley  18:41
Yeah, do Kirby. He knows what he has. And they they stepped on the gas that game. I'm ready for his his pregame speech. It was just Yeah, out of this world.

Matt Every  18:50
Yeah, Bama, please be the best again.

Scott Riley  18:54
They basically are Bama. The world is a better place when Bama is dominating. Kirby stole that template brought it over to Athens. And now they're just there. They're cooking.

Matt Every  19:04
So what's next for you? When are you going to win again? This week so good course for you.

Tom Hoge  19:11
I love this golf course for me. I've played well here in the past and short games starting to come together for the first month or two here. I felt like I've been chipping like a 20 handicapper. So, like things are finally coming together a little bit again. And now I'm not hitting it real great. So we'll see.

Matt Every  19:28
What was going on with your chipping?

Tom Hoge  19:31
Everything.

Matt Every  19:32
Needs to go see short game.

Aron Price  19:33
Game short game chef. We just had the short game chef on.

Tom Hoge  19:35
He's got me dialed.

Matt Every  19:36
Dude, he's got a few guys dialed apparently Keith Mitchell. Just Yeah, well, whatever. If it works, it works.

Tom Hoge  19:44
I try to notch you up. If I can just hit every green...

Scott Riley  19:49
Who're you working with? You working with anybody?

Tom Hoge  19:52
Scotty ham. Okay, yep, Yeah, same as querque and Matt and a lot of these guys and Stallings has has yeah Yeah, rice beautiful Stallings.

Matt Every  20:03
Prized possession.

Tom Hoge  20:06
It's been five years though he's helped me a lot. So it's been good.

Scott Riley  20:09
Yeah, yeah, that guy's all time. I need to schedule a trip to Cartersville

Matt Every  20:15
Cartersville mass dangerous place. dangerous place a

Scott Riley  20:20
Lot of good connections there from

Aron Price  20:21
Where do you play and practice in full with you?

Tom Hoge  20:25
I live in practice primarily at Mira VISTA. And I just joined Shady Oaks as well in the spring so I'm out there a little bit but playing any with my buddy Trent out there currently on haven't played with him yet. It's been weird since I've been home. I mean, it's maybe once a week I get out there.

Matt Every  20:40
He texted me the other day said Hey, I heard Hoge joined Shady. Let him know whenever he wants to leave some cash to come. Whoa, come play with me.

Tom Hoge  20:49
Does he gamble like you do? Yeah. All right. Perfect.

Matt Every  20:53
He's got a lot of money. Well, sorted. You're welcome. So what what rest of the year? What are the goals?

Tom Hoge  21:05
I'm not a big goal guy. I mean, I just want to feel like I keep getting better. And kind of take that each day and see where see where it takes you. But I mean, my problem with goals, I mean, you set these outcome goals and this and that and some golf courses, you're not gonna have a chance to stack up.

Matt Every  21:22
So yeah, that's a similar answer.

Aron Price  21:24
We've heard it early podcast. Obviously sports decoders, and one go ahead perfectly because like, if you have to say that your goal is to win, you're, you're you're you're not in the right elite category. Of course, it's everyone's DNA is to win. It shouldn't even have to be a goal. Like maybe five wins or something. It should. It's not you just want to try and win every event.

Scott Riley  21:47
Yeah. And you you've got that first one at Pebble that what was different that week? What do you think clicked?

Tom Hoge  21:54
Well, I mean, I've been playing really well for a decent stretch there. So..

Scott Riley  21:58
I want to say Matt might have called that one. He was on a stretch.

Aron Price  22:01
He played really well in Palm Springs.

Tom Hoge  22:02
The second Palm Springs companies before the fall in the last term at RSM, I was in the second last group fish for so I've been playing well. And I just think being around the lead that many times I definitely caught that one helps out.

Scott Riley  22:15
It's got to be one of the hardest tournaments to win to play in it on so many different courses pace of play, and

Aron Price  22:21
They could work both ways.

Matt Every  22:22
Yeah, I think it could work.

Tom Hoge  22:23
Yeah, I mean, I had a good partner. And I enjoyed it. For some reason, I seem to deal with it better when I'm playing with AIIMS.

Aron Price  22:31
They can relax. I can I can frustrate the living shit out of you. Both ways.

Tom Hoge  22:35
So you know, both both of those events. Last year, I had good partners the whole way and really enjoyed the days out there. And we had good weather both of them. So they're pretty, pretty easy days.

Aron Price  22:45
The best thing you can have with your partner, and he has events is someone on the first hole that has a putt for like a 10 footer for par. And you're already in for par and they pick it up. You're like Yes. You just know that they understand that they're there the secondary to like let the players play. I was noticed all of them do that though. Some Well, I guess some I've only played people a couple times, but the New Zealand open and stuff like that which turned to a prime. I had an American lady. She was crazy hoppin discovery she was tad she picked up like a 20 footer on the first solar panels. She was the best amateur partner of all time. As soon as she couldn't contribute. She said she would get out of our way. Get off the grid way too much. Legend.

Scott Riley  23:28
Did y'all play? Well? I mean, you're playing well with your with your ammo.

Tom Hoge  23:33
I think we finished like six or seven. Yeah, that always blows my mind. We made the cut. I think I tried. I think I was tied for the lead at that point as in the second last group, but I think it was Andrew Putnam was tired of the latest wellness partner had missed the cut, which is pretty impressive to do. I think he had to help two shots before holes and couldn't do it.

Aron Price  23:51
Wow. You answer that very often.

Tom Hoge  23:55
They had the flip side this year with Rogers. I mean, he was he was playing with Ben Silverman who was to overpower us with 36 holes. And Rogers was 2321.

Matt Every  24:03
Yeah, how many of you how many shots getting Tanner and 10?

Aron Price  24:06
Yeah. Keith Mitchell and Amante. We're talking about like a...

Matt Every  24:09
Two. Yeah.

Tom Hoge  24:11
They said, Yeah. They said, I looked it up. You know, you Google it when they did the match last summer. It's like a three handicap for that deal. Yeah.

Aron Price  24:18
It was not even it was silly.

Matt Every  24:20
Yeah. Have you ever had any famous partners?

Tom Hoge  24:24
I have not. No, no. Maybe next year. Have you met?

Matt Every  24:28
I had Billy Walters when you're there. Oh, gambler? Yeah, it was pretty cool.

Aron Price  24:34
So any information, any insight into this was probably just,

Matt Every  24:38
I was just fill stuff.

Tom Hoge  24:40
I was loving. I just cried during it. But I don't know if this should be on here or not. But I was just playing with Kramer Hickok. And he was saying he's got to know Billy pretty well. It was great guy. He's at a few of the discovery properties and whatnot. But he was saying he was telling me all about different businesses and whatnot. And I made the comment I have Assuming they would have taken everything when he went to jail here. He said, Oh, no, you mean he's got car dealerships and whatever. And he was running meetings out of prison getting his bets in for the day. That's awesome.

Aron Price  25:12
That's when you know, yeah.

Matt Every  25:14
That's when you know, he was he was he was super cool partner. He was when it was when Peyton was a free agent. He just or just left the Colts. And he told me to to make a futures play on the Jets, because they were going to try and get the Manning brothers both in New York City. And that's where he thought Peyton was gonna go. And obviously he didn't end up going there. He went to Denver, but that was...

Aron Price  25:44
Still he was betting on Denver. He was just getting...

Matt Every  25:47
On the cob, which is silly. Yeah. Moving lines over here. Yeah.

Aron Price  25:54
I made every little odd move. No chance.

Matt Every  25:56
No chance. So you glad you didn't get to Live?

Tom Hoge  26:02
Well, I think it all worked out pretty well, with all the money we've got

Matt Every  26:05
Did it ever get sick, like real serious for you? Like where you were like, Man,

Tom Hoge  26:10
I would say I was very anti-Live. And I got an offer. And they put the money in front of me. And you're crazy to not look at it at that point, right? I mean, my whole deal was I would almost feel guilty. If the if you didn't take the money at that point in the window, you got the driver hips or fall down the stairs or whatever happens. And you don't make any money playing. Playing golf again, you almost feel guilty that you didn't take it for your wife and kids, future kids or whatever it might be that you know, you got to look at it pretty seriously and try and look at it from all angles and make the right decision.

Matt Every  26:44
Yeah. It's interesting,

Scott Riley  26:46
Guaranteed paycheck. Golf does not guarantee a paycheck.

Aron Price  26:50
It means my problem with I got no problem with the argument. But they're saying that guaranteed money. Find me one seat in the Fortune 500 That doesn't have a guarantee just goes oh, you know, I'll work for free. But just give me a percentage of stock, whatever. No, they're all guaranteed money. So there's been a few things. I'm not on either side of friends on both, obviously. But the some of the arguments that they have used in this debate is idiotic. Yeah. Just purely idiotic.

Scott Riley  27:19
Intellectually dishonest. Yeah.

Aron Price  27:21
It's like guaranteed money. Where else in the world doesn't happen? What about the NFL guys? It's pretty sure people in mental 70% of the head contract is guaranteed the big guys, so I don't know.

Scott Riley  27:33
Well, the goalpost posts keep moving. The response from the Tour continues to look a lot like what the other tour is doing. So yeah, it's hard not to take the stance, that guy sounds a little hypocritical.

Tom Hoge  27:46
Coming full circle back to our original talk and the change to the Tour. That's that's the thing I hate the most in what in what business? Would you ever operate it for 40 years, and you get a competitor to come along? And you change your whole model to match theirs?

Aron Price  28:00
Yeah, but the thing is, I think, is it's certain guy that works for two I had this manuscript years ago sort of soar in another sport, where there was a breakaway and sort of said, Hey, I think your audience is getting older and older. Younger people can't hold attention spans, you need state, you know, more elite fields. And then the non elite fields, you need to go to like Team stuff where say, Matt, Tom and Harry English play on a team in the same group together your individual event, but have like crazy stuff. He's like, I think the audience will come and watch crazy shit, change it up, but they will like you're not a team player. You're not a team player. Then literally the thing he wrote almost to the tee is what's happening now? Obviously, he could I think it was it was two or three years ago it was It wasn't even live. It was the other league, the PGL or whatever. Just started flooding stuff. Not so much a whole franchise model, but definitely, you need to move at the times. And now yeah. So I don't know. It's interesting.

Matt Every  29:02
Yeah. I don't know either, man. Just like changes every day. Thanks for coming in. Dude, we're, we're excited for the rest of the year for you. And I miss gambling with you.

Tom Hoge  29:15
I need you to get your game sharp and get back.

Aron Price  29:18
I'm trying what? Every time I'm playing it's just fun. Yeah.

Tom Hoge  29:22
I saw what was it 69 On Friday last week.

Matt Every  29:25
Yeah, that's sugar on shit man. It was...

Aron Price  29:29
No it's not it's something thing numerous times back you're not doing much in the back 931 at Pebble Creek Assam it's no one ever loses the talent.

Matt Every  29:39
It'd be less frustrating if it What if I didn't? Like if it was a physical thing and I couldn't like play good anymore, but I can just I can kind of figure out when to do it. Figure it out. It'll happen.

Tom Hoge  29:54
We need you. Let's go.

Tom Hoge  29:56
Let's see about.

Aron Price  29:57
Notches.

Scott Riley  29:58
Thanks.

Tom Hoge  29:58
 Yep, enjoyed it.
