Matt Every 0:00
Are you gonna try to qualify this year?
Graham DaLaet 0:01
No. I honestly didn't even do many of those when I was playing because 36 holes is always hard on my back and I'm like, what's the reward? I go get my shit kicked in for fucking four days and I can go to the travelers next week and have play like the most fun golf course ever.
Scott Riley 0:19
All right, welcome back to another episode of Straight Down the Middle'ish. We're joined by a former card carrying member of the PGA Tour.
Matt Every 0:27
Stop it Scott. This is a goddamn legend. Graham DeLaet.
Scott Riley 0:32
Graham DeLaet from Canada and by way of Boise, Idaho. Welcome to...welcome to the pod.
Graham DaLaet 0:38
Thanks! I was just thinking the first time I ever played with you was in-
Matt Every 0:41
Boise, Idaho.
Graham DaLaet 0:42
Yeah. Yeah Monday quality.
Matt Every 0:43
Yeah.
Graham DaLaet 0:43
And you got through. He like made a put on eighty and like threw his hat down. He was like, 'Finally!'
Aron Price 0:53
What year is that? 06?
Matt Every 0:56
You were there bro because I- Yeah you stuck around that week.
Scott Riley 1:04
That was an epic week.
Matt Every 1:05
That was an epic week. That was my introduction to Boise Idaho.
Matt Every 1:10
It's a good spot.
Aron Price 1:11
I was there, too. There was a course, was like no trees. Where it was-
Matt Every 1:15
That's what it was.
Scott Riley 1:16
Yeah, it was out-
Matt Every 1:17
Ridgecrest.
Aron Price 1:18
Yeah that's it yeah.
Matt Every 1:20
Did you play Price?
Aron Price 1:21
Yeah. I miss. But I was on a tear. I had I got my car that year from Monday's but that one I missed
Matt Every 1:27
You said you're living there right?
Graham DaLaet 1:28
Yeah full time.
Matt Every 1:29
Full time.
Aron Price 1:29
You're back there.
Graham DaLaet 1:31
Full time. Yeah I got a place up in Donnelly which is like kind of two hours north of kind of up in the mountains.
Matt Every 1:37
Napoleon dynamite, righ?
Graham DaLaet 1:40
No it's not. But I, so we spent a lot of time up there. Kids are skiing in the winters and then lake stuff in the summer. It's good.
Aron Price 1:47
But you used to spend a little bit of time in Scottsdale right?
Graham DaLaet 1:50
I used to. This is I was actually just talking to Timmy Clark on the way over here. I've been there.
Scott Riley 1:53
Oh my god. So weird.
Aron Price 1:55
I said before going I said Graham we might have to give Graham the tag of Canadian's version of Tim Clark just you know quietly went off injured and and hasn't come back.
Matt Every 2:05
It's amazing how fast people forget you when do you know I'm saying? Yeah, like like you're a mystery to a lot of people. You are where the f--- the Graham to let go.
Aron Price 2:16
Yeah, you know 33 top downs. I did look that.
Graham DaLaet 2:19
I wish I was still playing these $20 million purses. Right?
Aron Price 2:23
Where are you with?
Matt Every 2:24
Don't you wish you were like five years?
Graham DaLaet 2:25
Yeah, that would have been nice. But-
Aron Price 2:28
Where are you with the body and injuries?
Graham DaLaet 2:30
I'm pretty good day to day, man. I'm fine. I still play golf with my buddies. I'm gonna play with Matt tomorrow. But like I play like once a week kind of thing.
Aron Price 2:39
He's a special that back nine. You've been G didn't even eat in that bag.
Graham DaLaet 2:44
I've played three rounds of golf since like October.
Matt Every 2:46
So you're injured. Your injury? It was low back? Yeah,
Graham DaLaet 2:51
That's sad. A couple of surgeries. And then I've done some stem cell stuff and nerve ablation. I've pretty much tried everything. Yeah.
Aron Price 2:59
Destroyed the stem cell. So yeah, he just went to Baltimore or something. And had it done
Matt Every 3:03
Any results?
Graham DaLaet 3:05
Yeah, I mean, like, like I said, day to day, I'm good. I just like I can't put in the grind of everything that's, you know, involved like I could probably go play like one or two weeks and then I'd have to take some time off and then but you need to be in a rhythm you know to play.
Scott Riley 3:20
So was it? We think we can attribute it to golf or some kind of another injury that manifest?
Graham DaLaet 3:24
When I was like playing hockey and stuff growing up. I was like the 15-year old kid who like literally in between periods, I was like, laying down on the floor stretching my back. And that's not normal for a 15 year old. So I kind of just always dealt with it.
Aron Price 3:38
I remember one year at Q School, Bayhill like, you weren't injured. But when I first got introduced to us the start, but you had a already had a tag of you carrying injuries and that was a young
Graham DaLaet 3:50
Yeah, I know. So it's like it's one of those things that doesn't get easier as you get older, obviously, but
Matt Every 3:56
I want to talk about this hockey thing real quick. But we used to have same trainer as well. And there's like five or six of us for a couple years with the student Greg Davies. And it would be like, you and Chapel would be in the best shape at all everyone and always hurt, always hurt.
Matt Every 4:12
Yeah, I mean, it was unbelievable, dude.
Graham DaLaet 4:14
It was. I know I tried everything I could to prevent.
Matt Every 4:17
I know you did, man.
Aron Price 4:18
Some people did come out with not the best start genetics or whatever.
Matt Every 4:25
Getting back to the hockey thing with the Canadian stuff.
Graham DaLaet 4:28
This is what always bugs them. You know what I'm gonna say? Yeah, I do. Like everyone from Sweden and everyone from Canada. There's they're supposed to be like, they could have gone pro and hockey.
Matt Every 4:39
I mean, it is kind of like that's what the announcers go to. It's their thing. It's like, oh, Adam Hadwin here and they make it sound like he was gonna walk into the fucking pros and play NHL, but he just decided to play golf.
Graham DaLaet 4:51
I mean, like I played hockey, my whole life growing up and I was a pretty good hockey player, but I made a decision to play golf because I wasn't ever going to make the NHL well.
Aron Price 4:59
What is it in Australia? Cricket. Cricket, I could have been professional. I've never I've never I've never played a game but if anything-
Matt Every 5:06
Just got f----. I mean
Scott Riley 5:09
There was golf hanging out.
Aron Price 5:10
But if played rugby, it's pretty good.
Scott Riley 5:12
When did you commit to golf Graham?
Graham DaLaet 5:15
Basically when I got to college in all honesty I was pretty late bloomer. Like I had hurt my back originally playing hockey. When I was 18. The first time it was like serious injury, and I was like, you know, for almost like a month my dad helped me like, put my socks on and stuff in the morning. Yeah, that's fun. And then so he's like, you know, you've always been a pretty good golfer, like, why don't we start looking for a golf scholarship. So that's kind of how I ended up long story short at Boise State was the best offer that I had financially. And that's how I ended up there. And then when I got to Boise State, I like, I didn't know what to expect, like, you know, I'd never really other than some Canadian AMS I've never played any like big events. I played one AJGA and Calgary one year, and I've finished like seventh or something. So like, I didn't really know what to expect. And when I got down there, I was number one guy like, basically right out of the gate, and I started beating everyone and I was like, well, maybe I can do this. And that's when I like really started practicing and playing like I I played all the time because I love the game 36 holes every day and played a bunch of tournaments, you know, locally, like where I grew up, but I didn't ever really think that it was something I was going to do.
Matt Every 6:24
Really damn athlete.
Aron Price 6:26
A bit Boise looks a little different from the day started a bit the populations probably tripled.
Graham DaLaet 6:31
Yeah, it's a great town.
Aron Price 6:33
It's f---- awesome.
Matt Every 6:34
It's a treat going there, dude. Yeah. It's like everything stopped there. And it's right from the rest of the world.
Graham DaLaet 6:43
It's fun. Yeah, it's, uh, it used to be kind of a sleeper town that nobody knew about. But
Scott Riley 6:48
How close to a ski hill are you?
Graham DaLaet 6:50
So the one that we well, there's one that's real close to downtown. It's like 45 minutes. It's kind of in the foothills. And then the one that we go to. It's Tamarack. It's like 90 minutes basically from Boise. There's another one a couple hours and sun valleys, kind of like the famous one in Idaho and kids are all into. Yeah, I have twins seven year old twins boy and a girl and they both love it.
Aron Price 7:08
That's awesome. Seven. That's crazy. I know.
Matt Every 7:14
All right, so you're coming from the Masters. Any takeaways?
Graham DaLaet 7:18
I was a little surprised that Brooks, his performance on Sunday.
Matt Every 7:23
That was just very-
Graham DaLaet 7:24
Yeah, it's like-
Aron Price 7:26
They're doing TV.
Graham DaLaet 7:27
I was on TSN Yeah, so like, we were talking about on set like he had this swag or like the first three days like he used to like when he was winning majors. Yeah, and he seemed to like, on Sunday, it seemed like he almost had like, it was like he was annoyed or something. It wasn't like that same swagger. It just-
Matt Every 7:44
He was annoyed really bro. Now. how could you not be annoyed?
Aron Price 7:46
Can't lie it was human. They had a rain delay. Then they had the human rains delay right like. He's just a lovely kid.
Graham DaLaet 7:53
But I know it's hard because he's such a good place. Awesome guy but man that's just painful. Yeah, painful.
Matt Every 8:02
Viktor Hovland kinda. Yeah,
Aron Price 8:05
I actually put a tweet at after Rahm got up and down on the first and I was like I don't see I'm going to be wrong. I don't see how Rahm doesn't win by three. Only the fact that Rahm has been in this position for four months straight and kept your hands but it was last week there's a major there's always said the Masters I don't know I've never played one, you tell me, it's got to be the hardest one to win because the longest gap from the now, the British Open, it's even a month than it used to be a month longer. Yeah it's the only major has the same course all the hit. You don't really know the history of the US Opens because there are different courses right? The Masters you know must be 10x the history that is instilled in every pros brain because the same course so that's why I just thought that I don't know I just thought that it would be hard for Koepka to hang on. Well and somehow
Graham DaLaet 8:49
Rahm did it through that worst wave to-
Matt Every 8:52
So screwed in that way.
Aron Price 8:53
He's a f---- animal.
Graham DaLaet 8:54
Uh, he's so good.
Matt Every 8:55
But he was really in the the tough stuff that came through what was it Friday? Yeah, Friday Saturday, he was missing everything right that they had the shot tracer on his driver's dude and they were slicing 30 yards under- even played out of the trees at Augusta. Yeah, but everyone was going to the right Sunday. Some of those he's not comfortable drawing the ball but on nine and 10 he took through it but 13. It was ballgame. Yeah you know.
Graham DaLaet 9:22
When he hit that shot on 14 outs, that was when it was official.
Scott Riley 9:25
Yeah so that was yeah.
Aron Price 9:26
I know he's been working on that drawing randomly played nine holes, I was caddying for Kirk in Phoenix and the tee shots have a right to left he was hitting right to left shots so you whether it was for Augusta or whatever, you can tell obviously left to right is much more comfortable. But he's been working on that right to left thing for a while. So that's what he said. He said once I hit that draw on 13 I think it's more like you know, goal within a goal is like, Hey, I got to hit one under the pump around the corner at Augusta which clearly, thinking about it for months. He did it. So it sounds pretty cool.
Matt Every 9:58
Did you get a chance to go out check that all out?
Graham DaLaet 10:01
No, I didn't go back out there to 13. So no, I didn't see it. Man because we have like a probably like a three-hour break. And by the time you walk all the way down there and back because just like
Matt Every 10:14
I mean like on Tuesday you didn't or Wednesday.
Graham DaLaet 10:17
So I was supposed to get in Sunday night and I had, there was all those tornadoes, you know? Oh, yeah. So I got delayed. I ended up not getting in until Tuesday morning. So everything kind of got squished down.
Matt Every 10:27
Where do you stay there?
Graham DaLaet 10:29
We rent a house. Yeah, it's like this. There's like 10 of us to stay in there. It's actually pretty fun.
Aron Price 10:33
Maybe, have you ever worked with Mark Dequina?
Graham DaLaet 10:34
A little bit. Yeah. He does it live.
Aron Price 10:37
He's a legend.
Graham DaLaet 10:37
Yeah, he does the TV up in Canada, that we kind of like go back and forth. Like it's weird. TSN has like a special thing with Gus. I think them in career the only ones that actually can put coverage on TV before CBS. So like when you have like those live at the Masters feeds, like whatever featured groups and like we do features last Yeah, they actually air that on like TSN, 1,2,3,4, and 5 or whatever. Whereas everywhere else, you can only stream it. Yeah. So then during like commercial breaks, we'll actually like come on and like do like a little bit of like a live like at the top of every hour just like-
Aron Price 11:13
With the International fee they do for Australia and that exactly. Okay.
Graham DaLaet 11:17
And so anyways, the keynote was on in studio in Toronto. So we go back and forth.
Scott Riley 11:24
So you mentioned you mentioned the draw. I think that was the biggest thing that that helped Koepka get in the position that he got, but also really benefited Rahm coming into the weekend. Like he had been through all tougher, and I think yeah, once they teed it up on Sunday, he felt like he had Koepka go where he wanted them and then Koepka hits that that I can make that swing too on the ninth fairway from one I mean, it's a little bit nervy and I think I think rom could smell that.
Graham DaLaet 11:53
Yeah, I would agree.
Graham DaLaet 11:54
I mean, Rahm's I just think Rahm's like best stuff is probably better than Brooks's best stuff.
Graham DaLaet 11:59
Do you think he's the best when he's firing full? Like is Rory is Rory the best when he's like on top of his game? He doesn't have the consistency-
Aron Price 12:09
I think Rahm is more of a full package.
Matt Every 12:10
There was a time where you could say Dustin Johnson it was that guy years time. You could say Justin Thomas was that guy. Rory? I definitely think you can say Rahm. I mean how can you not?
Aron Price 12:21
I think it's Rahm.
Matt Every 12:23
Just doesn't. You said who's the best player in the world? Rahm or Scheffler? To me I think Rahm.
Aron Price 12:28
I said like two years ago when he got Tour on one. This guy's gonna be number one in the world. Crazy call for like seven or eight years I thought it then had kids and people deal with definitely. Some help some doesn't and then now I just think he's back like. He's clearly the best left to right putter for a right hander. It's a joke like- He just whether it's placebo or whatever there's so many guys that can't match it up it's for the people don't know it's much easier to hit like an uphill right to left. You can hit like a four out of 10 putt and holler but downhill left to right which is the exact opposite you need to be a ten to ten and pay.
Graham DaLaet 13:04
His putting is very underrated.
Aron Price 13:06
Yeah.
Matt Every 13:06
Right to left he missed a bunch of right to left there's on Sunday but left to right ones Yeah, dude. Yeah see with those How about Phil last week?
Graham DaLaet 13:15
Unreal. Didn't see that coming. I saw in his press conference or whatever on Tuesday night. Gaunt. I'm like-
Aron Price 13:24
But he's like I'm so close to going on a huge run. People don't understand I'm so close and I was like, you keep telling yourself that-
Matt Every 13:31
I think he was right in hearing that.
Graham DaLaet 13:33
Those LIV players showed up though. There was what? Three in the top five or something? Top six impressive actually
Scott Riley 13:40
Yeah, I think they jumped in. They had like 12 guys make the cut. So out of 53 there that's that. I'm terrible at math. 20% of the field is for-
Aron Price 13:50
Data golf who if you haven't clicked on the data goal has got some crazy stats, always had the cutlines, the percentages that don't really factor in like upcoming winner there but they had the over 111 and a half for LIV guys to make the cut and so they were right on the number again.
Scott Riley 14:07
They're so good.
Aron Price 14:08
They're unbelievable. I don't know but they just have all the metrics and they plug it in and-
Scott Riley 14:14
And then now after nine holes-
Aron Price 14:19
But so you know obviously he's not competing much. You're on TSN. You do some PGA TOUR LIVE stuff that the Matt and I chime in once in a while and anything else?
Matt Every 14:31
You miss playing?
Graham DaLaet 14:32
I miss like being out there. Yeah I don't miss like everything that goes into it which and I used to really enjoy like going to the gym and practicing and like putting in all the time I still love it. I don't miss that at all anymore now that I've kind of it's not part of my-
Matt Every 14:47
Now that you have kids yeah, like it's almost impossible to do that stuff.
Graham DaLaet 14:51
I know it's it's actually a it's amazing like guys that like because I've had basically the last four years at home and obviously in a perfect world I would want to be Playing on the PGA Tour is still but like the amount of quality time I've gotten to spend with my kids and my family that I wouldn't have even known any different. It's pretty, you'll never get that back. And like guys that, you know, have 20-30 year careers. It's not that they're not good dads, but they don't get that quality time with their kids that they otherwise whatever, they just don't know any different.
Matt Every 15:20
Yeah,
Aron Price 15:20
I don't think people understand too, that if you play I'm guessing, I don't know, for other sports. But even on your weeks off, when you're professional golfer, you're engaged. So you are with the kids. But you know, subconscious. Something is still thinking about the next week. And it's, it's, it's a good thing I'm talking to you don't get it working, sitting behind an office desk, but it still takes energy away from other things where you just constantly it's like homework you haven't done in high school. It's crazy. So it's good to not feel that, you know, obviously we've all heard the-
Graham DaLaet 15:52
It's like going on a week off and you're thinking about that f--- 16 tee shot at whatever PGA national you're having, like anxiety over.
Aron Price 16:01
People don't understand that. I'm not complaining. Of course, it's actually a cool thing to have. So you just-
Graham DaLaet 16:08
I remember one year where I think we're in LA and I was talking to Dre and I was like, Hey, are you playing Honda next week is like, f---, that, of course, was way too tough for me.
Matt Every 16:17
I definitely got a couple of scores that start with an eight.
Graham DaLaet 16:21
Yeah, that's a tough one.
Aron Price 16:23
I was I played three times, I never made the cut. I didn't miss out twice for a shot. But speaking of that course, it causes brutal.
Scott Riley 16:32
So what's it like when you're covering for TSN? I mean, I'm-
Graham DaLaet 16:35
Yeah, so I do. So basically, it's like ESPN of Canada to tell us and it's I think it's actually owned by the same thing again, and then or whatever. So we do sports center hits. So we go to every major excluding the British, we don't go over there. And we're on site. And we do like, just like a wrap up show. Always for SportsCenter sometimes it's live, sometimes it's not. And then they'll do like, they call it like a scene setter. So we'll get there like nine or the morning or whatever, half the groups have kind of gone off. We just said you know, this is what the weather is doing is there the score and whatever that just lives on their digital feed. But they're kind of long days like you get out there st like, eight, nine in the morning. And you leave when the last pots basically hold and you work for like f------ six minutes, your entire tank long hours. So it's like it's not hard. But you're just out there a long time.
Matt Every 17:26
We did the PGA last. Oh, yeah, that's right. I remember messaging you like Hey, you wanna grab dinner? Like I'm still here for another hour. It sucks.
Graham DaLaet 17:34
But it's good. It's easy work. The guys that I work with. They're awesome.
Matt Every 17:39
And that's pretty, pretty small crew for you. Right?
Graham DaLaet 17:41
Yeah. Yeah. Like at the Masters. It's different. They have like, two camera guys and engineer and audio guy like the lady who kind of puts it all together. And then there's like a host, like, kind of like the Scott Van Pelt of Canada's name is James Duffy. And then Bob weeks who you know, he's like, bold as well. Is No he's not. So it's fun. And we just go back and have cocktails, and it's pretty good job.
Matt Every 18:08
That's the other nice part about being on the right. You don't have to worry about like, being a little hungover the next day. You can battle through it on TV.
Graham DaLaet 18:16
Yeah. Yeah, you can. Yeah.
Scott Riley 18:19
Amazing. I mean.
Scott Riley 18:24
So, Team Canada. How did y'all do Masters? Y'all have some? Anybody played well?
Graham DaLaet 18:30
Matthews was the only one who made the cut, unfortunately, where's he actually played pretty well. The first day shot like even par.
Scott Riley 18:37
He was playing with now when he-
Graham DaLaet 18:38
That's right. Yeah. Then he was a single.
Scott Riley 18:40
A single solo.
Matt Every 18:40
Yeah. Both my Masters I played with Mike where-
Graham DaLaet 18:43
Did you?
Scott Riley 18:44
Wow.
Matt Every 18:45
He was a wizard.
Graham DaLaet 18:45
Who else? Oh, his short game is so-
Matt Every 18:48
I don't remember he was struggling off the tee. It was like, yeah, it was not good.
Scott Riley 18:52
What's it? What's his take on on Presidents Cup? And how are y'all going to feel a team going forward?
Graham DaLaet 18:59
Well, as far as like with LIV players and that kind of thing. I don't know what because I think the PGA Tour owns or runs the Presidents Cup. So I think they'll have the final say and who plays so I would assume that it's only going to be current Tour players.
Matt Every 19:12
How many Canadians are in line now go this year?
Graham DaLaet 19:15
Well, you got to assume that Connors will be there, Hadwin, possibly Matthews, Adam Spence and one this year like he is good. So I think potentially, there could be like three or four but I would assume at least one-
Matt Every 19:31
Is Corey Connors the best Canadian right now you think?
Graham DaLaet 19:34
Do you know what? They're all kind of just the same, switching back and forth. You know, like one guy kind of is carrying the flag for bed and then I mean, they've had three guys win this year which is first time I think ever three Canadians on Tour. So it's a good spot golf in Canada.
Matt Every 19:47
Svensson. That guy flies under the radar. Yeah, really good player.
Aron Price 19:52
He's that young. Like he's- not saying he's old, but right low 30s. Yeah, but he's not like 23 or anything, but he's been good for long time. It just, as you know, some takes people a while.
Graham DaLaet 20:03
Yeah, figure it out.
Matt Every 20:04
Just I'm still learning.
Graham DaLaet 20:07
I'm glad I don't have to learn anymore.
Matt Every 20:09
God, the meanest game ever it is. But it's so rewarding but it's also like it will literally just completely f--- with your life.
Aron Price 20:22
People don't understand that, not that you're looking for the sub-story or not but it's just it's your identity.
Graham DaLaet 20:30
Yeah that's that's the one thing was hard I don't know if you dealt with it too but it's like-
Matt Every 20:34
Well you went, you got full on like chipping aids for a little bit.
Graham DaLaet 20:38
Yeah, yeah but it's like you've become like almost- No but you become like, you're like Aaron Price the golfer and when you're done you're like oh that's Aaron Price. He used to play golf right?
Aron Price 20:57
Now a realtor. I have trouble. I respect my profession. I really love it. But that's something I'm still having trouble with, you know, identified as a golfer since I was 15. Yeah, then all of a sudden people like, 'you sell houses?' I'm like-
Matt Every 21:14
Sure it's kind of insecure. He's really doing realtor porn.
Scott Riley 21:18
Handle high-end transactions.
Aron Price 21:21
Yeah, but I don't know. But I'm not a golfer anymore. I don't play like the US Open qualifier each year.
Graham DaLaet 21:26
Do you?
Matt Every 21:29
That's like, 'are you entering just to play just to go play?'
Aron Price 21:31
It justifies right off when I play golf and I love caddies and stuff.
Graham DaLaet 21:36
When you said it to me one time like he's like do your buddies try qualify for the US Open? I was like yeah, pretty much all of them and tell you stories like what like what's the-?
Matt Every 21:46
But I had a buddy once and it was like basically you told me the thing is if it's a pipe dream and you get in like then what? F---- I mean you're gonna be--- it's gonna be embarrassing. Yeah, it's not-
Graham DaLaet 22:01
Best case scenario-
Aron Price 22:03
I would have fun doing it and I played in Kabul. So I think that lightning in a bottle I could definitely get through locals I could shoot two hunder under no problems. Have to play really well for 36. But you know-
Matt Every 22:12
You can do it.
Aron Price 22:13
You've got seven days a year out of 365 where you can come off a drunken stupor-
Matt Every 22:19
100% you still get through-
Aron Price 22:22
But if I get to LA I don't give a s---. That USGA has a great corporate 10s or free.
Graham DaLaet 22:29
It's like but and then your buddies or whatever they were their realtors or whatever. It's like what do you think is gonna happen? You're gonna get there it's gonna cost you f---- 10 grand for the week. First of all-
Aron Price 22:38
Well, thankfully now they give you 10 grand.
Graham DaLaet 22:40
Oh, they do? but not if you're an Am, right? Like my-
Aron Price 22:43
Good point.
Matt Every 22:44
Yeah, good.
Scott Riley 22:45
So it's like to cover your greens fee.
Aron Price 22:47
I was about to switch back to them. What?
Matt Every 22:48
Are you gonna try to qualify this year?
Graham DaLaet 22:50
No.
Matt Every 22:50
Really?
Graham DaLaet 22:51
No, I can't. I was-. I honestly didn't even do many of those when I was playing. It's 36 holes is always hard on my back and I'm like, what's the reward I go get my s--- kicked in for f---- four days it and that I can go to the Travelers next week and have play like the most fun golf course ever. No!
Aron Price 23:08
I just know I think a lot of people don't understand. There's five or eight or ten guys who yeah, between 60 and 150 in the world won't even do the Monday qualifiers for the US Open like last year was-
Graham DaLaet 23:19
You can't be bothered-
Aron Price 23:21
Like it doesn't make sense to do that. And it's in my schedule. The week before the week after might be a money-
Graham DaLaet 23:27
Chasing majors and like trying to be like genre, but it's like if you're out there making a living and being a professional golfer, it's just different. You pick your spots and-
Matt Every 23:35
Yeah, I'm gonna do something about a West Coast Open to me that is special. Like I think this LA is that's gonna be a sick venue this year.
Graham DaLaet 23:43
Yeah, I've never played it. Have you? I've seen pictures.
Aron Price 23:46
I was supposed to play the Monday of LA but Kirk withdrew. And then he won the next week. Without me.
Matt Every 23:52
Without Price.
Graham DaLaet 23:52
That's one thing if I could go back and do it all over, I would. I would play more courses for sure, man.
Matt Every 24:00
Good. I've done a good share
Aron Price 24:01
I love playing new courses. I'm going to Chicago next month for guys golf trip.
Graham DaLaet 24:06
Yeah, like go play Bel Air, play LSCC or whatever, you know, like around Hilton Head this year and that, Buford. There's some awesome golf. Yeah, Whoop Session then what's -
Aron Price 24:18
Secession. Chechessee. The one next door Landing Jersey is great. So two years go I was caddying for Kirk. He was kind of a medical, wasn't in any Wednesday prime. So I took my clubs, and I end up kind of like 10-12 times we played golf. Everyone Wednesday played Atlantic June's Hilton Head week. We played what's the good one in Tampa?
Matt Every 24:34
Old Memorial?
Aron Price 24:35
We played every Hartford golf club. I feel that is my paid Wednesday was to play golf with Kirk.
Graham DaLaet 24:42
Could you ever beat him?
Aron Price 24:44
I think I did a couple of times. But you rub it in. I didn't know I didn't. Confidence. I was thinking about my paycheck.
Matt Every 24:52
I miss Chris Kirk. Love that guy.
Scott Riley 24:55
So you said you haven't played in months? I mean, not really.
Graham DaLaet 24:59
I played played one round of golf so far this year in Boise. And before that, I played a in December a little member guest at Doral. And before that I played in October so I played like four rounds ago. So I'm going to probably ask for some sort of-
Scott Riley 25:12
No expectation.
Graham DaLaet 25:14
Zero.
Scott Riley 25:15
How's the game though?
Graham DaLaet 25:17
It depends. Like, it's not tidy.
Graham DaLaet 25:21
Green Juice. Let
Aron Price 25:22
me know. Yeah, it's
Graham DaLaet 25:23
always helps.
Matt Every 25:26
Like you your game always reminded me of Spencer Levine. Like I miss spent his last. But like you guys hit it exactly where you're aiming all the time. I think you played a little more aggressive than Spencer, like Spencer would. He's one of the straightest hitters I've ever seen. And he plays more conservative than anybody I've ever. Yeah. And I'm like, Dude, what are you doing? Like, this is your strength.
Graham DaLaet 25:50
That's one thing too, like looking back. But it's like, I never was never well, the animal uses razors, bro. I know. But I always played to like fat sides of greens. And it's like, you know, I never won. And it's like, I look back my, if I'd have just given myself some credit, and taken some more things on, you know, but,
Matt Every 26:09
You know, right. Like, if you're on the range, and you're in a zone and you're hitting 10 seven irons in a row, I bet you you can hit him within a five yard you know, window left to right. You get on the course and you're super dialed in. There's water 10 yards left, you're shifting your target but for what really your stud you're gonna
Graham DaLaet 26:26
Yeah, so that's that's the one thing it's like the I think it was a last year the Jules is with me full time and he actually kind of like hired one of those analysts guys stack guys. Yeah. And basically, he went through a bunch of my stuff. He's like, your, like, your driving is like top notch and you hit so many fucking hybrids and three woods. Like why? Like, why I don't want to be in the fairway bunkers. And this and I want to be playing from the fairway. And it's like, you just think now you hit it as far as you can. And you play aggressive. That's what all the best players do.
Matt Every 26:58
All of them. Yeah. Well, a lot of a lot of the best players like, like your driving might have been your strength. Why would you take your strength away from you? Yeah, you know, like, you should be used. I know. It's weird. But we're f---- golfers. Do that. Get better? F---that.
Aron Price 27:15
What are your thoughts on this, you know, the new debate of rolling the ball back forward? Seems like not a thing where everyone's on one side or the other.
Graham DaLaet 27:25
Yeah, I don't know. It's like, I like the skill in the game. And it's like it feels like now like it's like this bomb and gouge and it's, you know, obviously with golf courses, you know, they can't stretch them out anymore, you know. But I just think that the best players in the world it should be a skill to go out and shoot six, seven under like I'm no maths, like talking about like hybrids, like Adam Scott powering and plucking two irons. And now every single guy can hit a tower in hybrid. It's like his advantage is gone. It's not right.
Aron Price 27:57
2010. San Antonio. Adam won, broke a slump. I was going I caddied. We had dinner. And we literally had that conversation about Harvard's and I brought up all sorts of names but out of a shitty law Hagen he's one of the four people on earth that can get a three iron up and over three. Now like anyone is slap on a hybrid pops out right?
Matt Every 28:17
Like so it sounds like you're in favor of a little bit of rollback, but maybe do it a different way. Maybe not the ball maybe you could do it other ways?
Graham DaLaet 28:25
I don't know. It's like, it just seems like golf gets kind of boring with the driver sandwich in every f---- par. Even par fours or 490, guys are hitting driver wedge into.
Matt Every 28:36
Yeah.
Aron Price 28:36
Yeah, we had a round of golf with Tudee the other day and he brought up some things that- Because the golf ball is used in every shop, right? So if you change it, that's a huge thing. This manufacturer you have to make a ball for. He wasn't this wasn't his case, I promise. But he's like, you could change I just changed tee heights. So if you get any tee at a certain height, you can't hit those big bombs that go-
Matt Every 29:01
That sounds too simple.
Graham DaLaet 29:03
Yeah.
Aron Price 29:04
But there's other ways to you know, get rid of hybrids.
Matt Every 29:07
But if it's that simple, like then we should do that? I mean, they shouldn't try the OEMs. It's a goddamn nightmare.
Aron Price 29:16
And I was all for it and then I went back lately but to change these balls for you know, it's 12 guys that are on his bomb and gouge. It's a lot. And then the point of you know, we've come a long way in 15 years of Trackman and working out.
Matt Every 29:35
Right.
Aron Price 29:35
We're maxed. Trackman was it. I don't know. I don't think a human can start hitting the ball any further. I think we've matched there. So that's the debate of like, Hey-
Graham DaLaet 29:45
I mean, the drivers now I mean, you can hit one so high. And it goes 320 yards still.
Aron Price 29:52
But when we start, our precision, I started with wooden woods that would just change like mid 90s. Yeah. And the great Big Bertha we talked about it the other week. That was the thing. That Big Bertha was like a-
Graham DaLaet 30:04
The Killer Whale, remember that?
Matt Every 30:07
There was a big change in drivers. And like, I want to say, 05-08 This is my personal experience. And when I was in college, I would tee it low in my go to shot with a driver. I wasn't a great driver, great iron player, but teed low and my miss was like a heel cut with my driver. And it would do. It would be a heel f---- cut. That's just what it was. Now then they moved the the leg sweetspot on him a bit and that shot just doesn't exist anymore. You can't hit that shot. There's only one way up you can hit down on drive. You just can't.
Aron Price 30:43
What was the last time you saw someone hit a legitimate duck hook on Tour? I haven't seen one in years. These seven when we first started-
Graham DaLaet 30:50
Bring back the duck hook.
Scott Riley 30:51
Bring back the shrimp sandwich. One thing we haven't seen or scores go the wrong way. I mean, they got a good winning score there at Augusta.
Matt Every 31:04
Exactly.
Aron Price 31:05
Imagine you had the robot-
Scott Riley 31:06
Guys were 270 off the tee on couple of holes. What do we want?
Aron Price 31:13
And actually like for the first few days, 13 played easier. There's less people going for it.
Scott Riley 31:19
Right.
Aron Price 31:20
Point. 3.51. For like, last year was 4.85 the first hit was 4.71 so they know.
Matt Every 31:27
I know what I want. I want this to go through and the USGA just to get like basically turned into the NCAA, like just not matter anymore.
Scott Riley 31:37
Yeah, thanks for that. We're done listening to you.
Aron Price 31:44
But the thing that Michael wins said about like 30,000 courses No. The NFL changed 10 courses like the major course, like some of the tools you don't have to change. San Jose Country Club does not need to be changed because-
Graham DaLaet 31:55
I played. I played my rookie year on Tour at Pebble with a guy. He was on the board for the USGA. Okay, he's my partner on the first hole at Pebble he hits it by f---- 20 yards and out there when makes the fairway. I'm like this is one of the guys who's involved in making decisions for our game and he can't even hit it to the f---- fairway on what?
Aron Price 32:15
Another thing like the players, the PGA Tour players should have, which I think they are, this is his questioning period of what is good. I think they are talking a lot to the players.
Matt Every 32:24
But the rollback thing is also, it's directly USGA's fault. Like they let it get here.
Graham DaLaet 32:30
Yeah, well, and if they do anything, I really feel like it's just a bandaid anyways. It's like if they try to button something down now. I mean, if this was done in 05, and maybe it'd be different, but it's like-
Matt Every 32:42
If we go two separate rules for pros and amateurs, I think we don't stop at the golf ball. You go other places too. Like you have to have a set of irons in your bag, like two headcovers per pro.
Aron Price 32:54
Yeah, can I ask a question. How do we go from the steelhead tailor-made burner to something that's, what is the- what are the drivers now? 460? Yeah, those things what were they 260? Who said, 'okay, 400?' Okay, 410?
Graham DaLaet 33:08
460 is the max.
Aron Price 33:10
How do we get to 460?
Matt Every 33:12
There'll be a 465 here.
Aron Price 33:14
Alice, who has never played golf, can get better on ball with one of those drivers. The old ones? Yeah, maybe it was maybe it is for participation. I don't know.
Scott Riley 33:22
I just I'd like to see the ball drop, come back to shoulder height.
Matt Every 33:25
Same.
Graham DaLaet 33:26
It's so awkward to make a rule. that's that's one of the that's where we were exactly
Matt Every 33:31
That was important. Yeah.
Scott Riley 33:33
It's going to speed up play and now play is slowing down because nobody's enforcing penalties.
Aron Price 33:37
They've done decent job like changing the ball from five minutes the ball look from five minutes to three
Matt Every 33:41
No. That was a terrible change. That's not enough. Dude, three minutes.
Scott Riley 33:46
With no help. I mean-
Aron Price 33:47
There's got to be data. How many bowls a fan? Three and five is probably not many.
Matt Every 33:52
I bet you if you asked every player it would be like 80% or more would want five minutes. You ran-
Graham DaLaet 33:59
Professional. You don't need. I mean, it's like when you're playing with your buddy.
Matt Every 34:03
Oh, yeah. But like yeah, let's go.
Scott Riley 34:07
Leaf rule.
Matt Every 34:08
Yeah, for sure.
Scott Riley 34:11
So new golf media. One of my takeaways from Augusta was just how kind of absurd looking it was to see a guy take a phone call during the round wearing an earpiece and-
Graham DaLaet 34:24
I don't like this.
Matt Every 34:25
I don't either.
Graham DaLaet 34:25
I don't like it at all. I know it's good for the fans. Like, they like it, but I was watching it-Riv, Collin Morikawa on the 10th hole. They talked to all the way down inside the pins in the front left. He's kind of short left of the hole. And they're like talking to him and he's like, explaining the shot he's going to hit and this and that and he f----- whatever he hits it like six, seven feet and misses the putt. I'm like, This is no way that this-
Matt Every 34:48
It sends the wrong signal too. It all starts at the top. We talked about this the other day. These kids start seeing these like over the top at conversations with player caddy and they think that's what you have to do over every shot now. It's not not normal.
Scott Riley 35:04
It's a little cringy-looking though. You got an earpiece, and you're the only guy singled out.
Aron Price 35:10
Ironically, I guess, you have to have fun, right?
Graham DaLaet 35:13
I don't know. Like, I'm in the middle. And I'm like, What's the focus here? Is it to get your green jacket and the Career Grand Slam or is it to f----- be the poster boy, yeah, for the PGA Tour?
Scott Riley 35:24
Sorry, guys. I'm just trying to win a golf tournament.
Aron Price 35:26
Yeah, Nick, hang out. I was like, I could not believe anyone who's trying to win a green jacket will be trying to like talk to Jim Nantz. Right? It's interesting, not for or against it but-
Graham DaLaet 35:36
I think it's good for the fans. But I wouldn't do it as a player.
Matt Every 35:40
I'm for it in like Phoenix or something. But I'm not for it at-
Aron Price 35:44
For the John Deere. Yeah,
Scott Riley 35:46
It's an interesting insight. They're still trying. We're gonna look back on all these like, hokey gimmicks. We had the camera in the bag. Like somebody's walking around Valspar with a camera stuck in Justin Thomas. Here's what it looks like with a camera and a bag.
Aron Price 36:06
It's not NASCAR or Formula One where you get the cameras on the helmets.
Scott Riley 36:13
Attach some GoPros.
Matt Every 36:16
I think the PGA TOUR LIVE is missing out big time on opening up the feed a little bit and giving the viewers a bit more of like real-time experience. Open those mics up on that tee box. And let's hear what these guys are saying. You know, I'm saying like they're cutting off so much audio and it's like, this is great stuff here. Yes, there's gonna be some F words. There's gonna be some s---, some whatever. There's gonna be some words, but that's okay. If you don't want to watch it. don't watch it .
Aron Price 36:49
Put an MA tag or something. I don't know.
Matt Every 36:52
Premium but I think they would absolutely kill if they just opened up the mics.
Graham DaLaet 36:58
I think the Tour is probably worried that their product or how people view is going to be changed by something that someone says or whether it's a swear word or-
Aron Price 37:09
Justin Thomas found that out? Yeah. Cap lower fees.
Matt Every 37:12
Yeah, well, look, you just send out a ranking of cuss words. And that's like the least, this is the least risky. Right here. More risky down here.
Aron Price 37:21
If you want to go cuss.
Matt Every 37:22
Good luck.
Aron Price 37:26
What about you've been watching any of the LIV all that stuff?
Graham DaLaet 37:29
I try. I like want to. I just can't. The product is so bad.
Aron Price 37:35
I think. It's all those I for- I really enjoy it. The only thing I would say is on the Sunday is the shotgun side is too hectic. The tradition of of someone winning that needs to be restored a bit. So even if you do a huge draw. Well I did at the Masters basically whether if you have a huge draw where there's 10 groups and 10 groups and then, I dunno, say Leishman is leading and Matt Jones as Forbes shoot 65. He can go back and like be under the ropes, but the whole finishing everywhere I think is more great because there's no no one being crowned on a Friday or Saturday. But Sunday that's hard for me.
Matt Every 38:12
If you were still playing and they came, if you were like yeah, you know, Graham DaLaet did that in 2015. Okay, and LIV was happening. They're like Graham, 'Here's 20 million and you can play for these purses.' Would you have? What would you-
Aron Price 38:28
Three days better on your back?
Graham DaLaet 38:35
Most likely. I would have been obviously it would have been a discussion with my family.
Matt Every 38:36
Yes.
Graham DaLaet 38:37
Yeah, but I wouldn't.
Matt Every 38:38
But there's definitely a discussion.
Graham DaLaet 38:39
Like for anyone to say that 'oh, I would never do that.' They're not being offered that either.
Aron Price 38:45
But I have been to Orlando. They're fun like the music thing. I caddied in Saudi Arabia last year for Matt when his caddie had an eye issue. And the first 10 minutes I was there with the music. This is a bit weird. But I'll tell you, it's really good.
Matt Every 39:05
Out on the course?
Aron Price 39:06
Yeah, now it's on the tee. So my kids who are nuts rolling around being silly, when they're on the tee, they don't have to be perfectly silent as the music's there.
Matt Every 39:14
Every tee box?
Aron Price 39:15
Yeah.
Matt Every 39:16
Really?
Aron Price 39:17
In Orlando, the four or five tee box that I went to had them and when I was like, This is good. So it's a different vibe but but I think that they're not trying to be the Tour. I think they're trying to be different. It's like a horse race.
Graham DaLaet 39:29
I don't like how like Golf Channel. It's like CNN and Fox News. All they do is bash live and you watch a live broadcast and they're just like talking about how b----- the world ranking system, how old their guys are all.
Aron Price 39:43
This- it's just just let your product right? Free market capitalism will take care of it. Stick to how good your product is.
Matt Every 39:50
But Graham, CNN's pretty bad, dude.
Graham DaLaet 39:55
I agree.
Aron Price 39:56
Well, CNN pisses on your back and tells you until it rains. Fox just pisseson your back. Morally they're a little different.
Scott Riley 40:07
Price sent a- you sent a video of just the LIV speaker at the tournament just playing its music just by itself.
Matt Every 40:16
Yeah, that was a song. That's why you sent it.
Aron Price 40:18
18th fairway. But.
Scott Riley 40:20
Yeah, but it was like, wow, there's the speaker.
Matt Every 40:24
And his kids are like beating each other up over the corner. Nobody even knows.
Aron Price 40:28
But I think that part, like I don't think the Tour needs to do that. But I do think and then a guy who writes not for LIV, writes the Tour, went to the Orlando one and he wrote his article had pros and cons and he even said the music thing was good.
Matt Every 40:30
Yeah, I can see it being.
Aron Price 40:43
It's all pumping and it's not like Megadeth or Metallica. It's just like pretty chill.
Graham DaLaet 40:48
I mean, who doesn't listen to music when they play golf anymore?
Aron Price 40:51
Yeah, everyone has.
Matt Every 40:53
Is it like territorial? The music? Like if they're playing in Mexico, they got like some mariachi band. I'll stick with-
Aron Price 41:02
We'll see in Australia next week. I don't know two weeks whatever it is.
Matt Every 42:43
Are you going down there?
Scott Riley 41:07
That's going to be huge for Australia.
Aron Price 41:10
Australia is very pro-LIV because clearly they got a team of Australians. So they're amped up and they feel a little you know whether it's right or wrong screwed by the Tour. The Tour has a full series and now no one comes to the Australian Open there.
Matt Every 41:18
So I would have gone.
Aron Price 41:19
Whether it's right or wrong in the debate, they are looking forward to this event. So-
Scott Riley 41:34
Cheering on their countrymen.
Matt Every 41:35
Is Australia pro-Greg Norman?
Aron Price 41:37
Yeah, I think so.
Matt Every 41:39
It's not split like they all-
Aron Price 41:42
I think a little bit like obviously puts he likes to-
Matt Every 41:45
Pretty polarizing guy. So I mean, he likes it. Yeah, and I know, Aussies aren't like that, like I remember growing up with or, you know, when we first knew each other. It was like you weren't allowed to say-
Aron Price 41:59
You know, it's called the 'tall poppy syndrome.' But Norman I guess breaks the barrier-
Matt Every 42:04
I'm about to say what? Like, you're not allowed to be confident yourself. You're not allowed to be like-
Aron Price 42:07
If you come in, like perfect example, Sam Layton who was number one in the world, he come and be like, you know, I played really good today. I'm just you know, I'm really feeling it. Everyone's like, Oh, look at this wanker talking about himself. So it's like they just tall poppy, they want to cut you down and I think Americans a little bit not the good ones. But sometimes the guy was just playing college golf like are in denial. I'm so close. I'm like no, you're not. So there's a there's a happy medium right? There's a happy medium there somewhere. But Australia is terrible. Like it's you get judged harder if you're more successful.
Graham DaLaet 43:28
Somebody asked me the other day like how big is the gap between like Canadian Tour and Web Doc or Korn Ferry and the PGA Tour it's like because everyone says like, Oh, it's so close. You just need a little break and like-
Aron Price 42:49
It depends on the player and all defend that there's guys that have probably played three seasons on the Canadian Tour. Who if they can get to the Tour, could win when it's- Remember Matt Jones and Chuck Hoffman sat on the Korn Ferry once they got to Tour, they played even better. It's-some people were comfortable and impatient. Bill Haas was stuck on the Korn Ferry for like three or four years, threatened to quit until he got it's but in general, it knows that there's a difference.
Matt Every 43:16
Yeah, I think there's a big difference.
Aron Price 43:29
The Tour. The hundreds that go on the Tour is so amazing, right? Like the 30th guy on the Canadian Tour has got a long way to go. The top few guys of course are completely-
Graham DaLaet 43:38
Because you got to start somewhere like but the guys who generally make it to the PGA Tour they f----- fly through the mini tours, right?
Matt Every 45:16
Like it's done in two or three years after college usually. Right?
Graham DaLaet 43:42
Yeah. And because if it takes you longer then you start doubting yourself to.
Matt Every 43:46
That's a tough hole to get out of.
Aron Price 43:48
Funding is like. Hey, you're 27. If I want to not do this and start my accounting career do I start at 35? Yeah, it's a lot of risks. There's a lot of risk and I'm you know, obviously I'm biased because we all played pro golf, but it's a little bit not thought about by the consumer.
Graham DaLaet 44:07
How many years you play on Tour?
Aron Price 44:09
Just three. And a couple of them were just like half years like 126 to 150. Yeah, I didn't have 33 top tins growing.
Matt Every 44:17
That is a lot.
Aron Price 44:18
I had four.
Matt Every 44:20
What's the one tournament you feel like goddammit I should have won that tournament?
Graham DaLaet 44:25
Hartford one year.
Matt Every 44:28
Who won?
Graham DaLaet 44:29
You don't even want to know. I missed a playoff. Chris Stroud and Kenny do.
Matt Every 44:38
Wow. Did you just throw up on yourself coming in?
Aron Price 44:22
Well, I didn't do.Yeah-
Graham DaLaet 44:23
I missed. I missed like a five footer for birdie on 15. And then three putted 16. I played really well. I just like yeah.
Aron Price 44:52
It's the most underrated back nine on Tour.
Graham DaLaet 44:55
That's that's my favorite course. Like for fun. To play.
Matt Every 44:58
That leaderboard can do some moving.
Graham DaLaet 44:59
Yeah, it's fun.
Aron Price 45:01
So the dove match player whatever if they could move it to another course. That's the course. That's a great back nine to have match play. So much.
Matt Every 45:09
If you could reroute it to where 18 was seven different hole. And 17 was 18 and you're gonna have you're gonna have the drivable hole the park
Aron Price 45:18
That'd be 16,17,18.
Graham DaLaet 45:21
Oh my god. That's scary.
Matt Every 45:24
It doesn't get talked about. It's like there's nowhere to hit that ball even with a five iron on that tee. Yeah, that would be scary.
Graham DaLaet 45:29
And you have to hit the fairway.
Matt Every 45:31
Oh, yeah. Nothing. Yeah.
Aron Price 45:33
That's a great track.
Matt Every 45:34
Had a great week. Really. I played with Sergeant Slaughter in a program there when you're.
Graham DaLaet 45:40
Yeah. Who's that?
Matt Every 45:41
You didn't grow up in the States. Wrestler. Yeah, Sergeant Slaughter. For a year out there never played before. His caddy was carrying his bag like a briefcase around the course the whole day.
Aron Price 45:53
Jerry, Jerry James.
Matt Every 45:56
He was yeah, he was Agent Orange. Long driver. Son's Justin James. You follow that long drive?
Graham DaLaet 46:04
No, no, not at all.
Scott Riley 46:03
If Sergeant Slaughter had his own GI Joe figure. I mean, he really was huge in the 80s like Mr. T, Sergeant Slaughter these guys. They were all-
Graham DaLaet 46:12
I started watching it. It was like Hulk and Ultimate Warrior Hacksaw Jim.
Scott Riley 46:17
Yeah. That's some good-
Matt Every 46:22
Wrestling?
Graham DaLaet 46:23
I don't know. It's like, I don't think so. I can't believe how many people like that.
Matt Every 46:28
Same.
Graham DaLaet 46:29
It's shocking to me.
Aron Price 46:31
So what about like, do you see a foreseeable future where you know stem cell or something the work you do get back?
Graham DaLaet 46:37
I think, I don't think the Senior Tour is gonna be around in 10 years. I don't know.
Matt Every 46:40
I heard that from a few people like-
Graham DaLaet 46:43
With the amount of money that the PGA Tour now has to put into these purses and like, I don't know what. I think that they even have to supplement some of the purses on the Champions Tour right now. Like I don't know. I don't see it happening because their main focus has to be the PGA Tour.
Matt Every 46:59
Right. Well, yeah.
Scott Riley 47:01
Well, there was talk of moving the age back to 45. You kind of create this secondary Tour ,like a play-
Graham DaLaet 47:08
Well the problem is there- Chris DeMarco and like these guys are like Ryder Cup- ers now. They have like a seven year gap where they can. Like at 42, it's pretty hard to play on the Tour. Unless you're like remarkably talented.
Matt Every 47:19
Yeah, like there's like Ryan Palmer might be the only guy. Charlie Hoffman. Watney is forty-three.
Matt Every 47:27
He's probably 43-42.
Graham DaLaet 47:29
I've played with him in college. Quite a bit of Fresno State Holy s---.
Matt Every 47:30
I love him. He's such a sweetheart.
Graham DaLaet 47:36
Remember those PT title as PT drivers?
Matt Every 47:41
Nick Watney was a world beater for a little bit.
Graham DaLaet 47:43
He was an absolute.
Aron Price 47:44
His uncle was a coach.
Matt Every 47:45
And you know, he's never- like everyone. One year at the Greenbrier, we're playing blackjack in the casino, and they let the fans come in and play. Like if you have a ticket or whatever you can come in. So he was playing this one guy's like, how's my boy? White chocolate dude out there. And I'm like, who's that? And he goes Nick Watney. And I was like, Oh my God, he's gonna love that you just called him that. Loves you. He is-
Aron Price 48:06
He was on such a and then I think like men equipment change or something of that. He went to Nike-
Matt Every 48:15
You never know, man. I mean, just s---- happen out there. You know? People peel off kids and yeah, just s---- changed.
Graham DaLaet 48:22
Is there like someone that like the first time you saw him play like, whatever you're like, Wow, this is different ?
Aron Price 48:28
People have kids that turned into crazy people. There's all sorts of get bad rulings.
Scott Riley 48:33
It's a good question.
Graham DaLaet 48:34
Who was the guy that you saw first you're like this guy is going somewhere?
Scott Riley 48:38
I'm trying to think of somebody.
Aron Price 48:40
On and off the course?
Matt Every 48:41
Sam Vene. He was just like, he was hitting big golf shots in college. He just had a different sound but you know, and he didn't give a f--- either. Like just walk up and hit it.
Aron Price 48:53
He wanted to shake when you Oh, no, he didn't win.
Matt Every 48:56
I won that year.
Aron Price 48:57
You won. Camilla and I was talking to him on a team at swing speed because I was just enamored with both of them and I was a good player too at that time. And he's a guy who just talking about needs that just rips his to my back while he's talking to me. And hits on the ground at 20 feet. Didn't give a f---.
Matt Every 49:12
Next day. So yeah, like a seven shot lead.
Graham DaLaet 49:17
All right, what tournament is this?
Matt Every 49:18
Georgia Southern tournament. Okay. My coach used to go there, Buddy. So we would go playing it. And I was a sophomore in seven shot lead. After four holes. I'd already like I think I might have had the lead. And his dad came in because he was gonna break the Wake Forest. He was gonna break the record for most wins at Wake Forest if he won. And he just threw it in the shitter after like four holes. I mean, it was all it was great for me. He full on quit like after four holes. Jay walked in. It was great. Just typical Father-Son, you know, like, ran that same s--- at my dad too I'm sure plenty of times.
Scott Riley 50:02
What about you, Graham? You got somebody just blew you away?
Graham DaLaet 50:06
The one. Watney. That was your first time I played with him. I played a lot with Brendan Steele in college too. He played at UC Irvine. Yep, he was good. Like, there was just kind of like, a couple of those guys.
Matt Every 50:17
That guy in college. I got paired with. I got.
Aron Price 50:21
That was a funky smooth, whatever flavor
Matt Every 50:23
Dude. So I had no idea about this guy. And I was doing this in school.
Aron Price 50:27
His moves a lot better.
Matt Every 50:31
First Round of the public's. And he didn't f---- miss from like inside 15. He whooped my a-- dude. It wasn't even close.
Graham DaLaet 50:37
He used too. I get why he still is. He's had a great career.
Aron Price 50:39
Oh, he's an amazing driver. Yeah, he is. He's got-
Matt Every 50:42
Played with almost every year too. I mean, he's.
Aron Price 50:46
But that move is a lot tidier than he was. It used to be, like, times two. So-
Graham DaLaet 50:53
Like hanging around his body and get there.
Aron Price 50:55
And then coming from Australia to where everyone's like, we focused too much on technique not like getting the ball in the hole. So when one would come like, I think I may have played early college with him too. And I was like, holy s---. Is this guy like-? I can. Is there a special category for people that can't hit it? I hit and I was like, Holy f----, this guy's sends it like he's, he's always been a great driver of the ball. But yeah, I was just obviously didn't realize Americans don't give a s--- about the swing as you shouldn't be as long as it repeats.
Matt Every 51:26
Yeah, there's so many guys now. Like, I'll watch it. I'm like, Damn, dude, that's, yeah, that's pretty pure.
Aron Price 51:33
But these are Corey Connors
Matt Every 51:35
Machine.
Graham DaLaet 51:36
I sit and watch him.
Aron Price 51:37
He played with him in the Monday qualifier where he wanted. Yeah, didn't hold a 30 foot on 18 to get into the playoff.
Matt Every 51;44
It was pretty funny.
Aron Price 51:45
Driver off the deck was on. Over-exaggerating.
Matt Every 51:49
Yeah, there was like, at the time we had to. We're checking the scores to see where we still were the last group and I was already gonna miss by a couple and Cory was needed to see what was going on. Say the bury the last and it's like this weird hole. And you got to hit. It's either a three wood and a wedge or like a five iron and eight iron. And he pulls out the five iron and the guy counting for me goes he's gonna regret this. And he hits the five iron, hits like a mediocre eight iron like 20-25 feet and hoops it to go into like a five or six for one playoff, then gets in the playoff and wins.
Graham DaLaet 52:24
Changes his life.
Aron Price 52:25
That's the part the Canadian guys not that close. But there's plenty of weeks that a guy can do that.
Matt Every 52:32
That guy's a stud. He could do it anyway. He could do it this week. He could do it this week.
Aron Price 52:36
But he wasn't in the tournament as I'm saying he hadn't won yet. And San Antonio is a great week. It's the week before the Masters. The limelight is down a little bit.
Matt Every 52:44
Yeah, worst golf course. I f---- love that place.
Graham DaLaet 52:48
I hate it. It used to make me so mad. I would just like being like the grumpiest mood the entire week and I'm like, why am I here? The one you're doing is like, man, he like taught me like I'm never going back to that place. He's like, Dude, he's like, it's a great purse. The field's pretty weak. It's a chance like let's just go there with a different attitude and let's go f--- make some money, please. I'm like, All right. Talk me into it after like six holes on Thursday. I'm looking at flights like-
Matt Every 53:14
That place when it first opened was ridiculous hard.
Aron Price 53:20
Well, the first year they had rocks like immediately. 2010 That was the year I was. I think it was like 45.
Graham DaLaet 53:29
So there's no way you can get more screwed by a draw than that place. I think the wind can f--- and how
Matt Every 53:30
Yeah. It can yeah.
Aron Price 53:32
Yeah it's on top of a hill. It's-
Graham DaLaet 53:33
I played with Todd Hamilton one year on number nine. He had driver three, wouldn't and probably still had like 80 yards and the number nine.
Aron Price 53:40
That guy's a legend. Tells jokes. Big joker.
Matt Every 53:44
Graham. Thanks for coming in, bro.
Graham DaLaet 53:47
I'm looking forward to playing some golf. I wish you were coming out there.
Aron Price 53:49
You don't want that.
Matt Every 53:51
He was out driving me the other day. This guy.
Aron Price 53:55
Always finished bad. Saved the handicap for the member guests.
Graham DaLaet 53:59
Where do you play?
Matt Every 54:00
He's playing at Baker's Bay. Member is coming up.
Graham DaLaet 54:01
With who?
Matt Every 54:03
Well, buddy. Yeah, he's got big friends. Big friends. Nice. Yeah.
Graham DaLaet 54:13
Cheers fellas.
