Tyler Brown 0:00
Business is not always fair, right? And this was a decision for these guys. It was their individual businesses and the Tour didn't say, you couldn't go. They said, if you go, you can't come back. So you had to be ready to go. And they were free to go. And I think a lot of those guys chose legacy and purpose over money. Yep. And at that time, given what they knew what the tour told them, which was all true at the time, given all the information is out there. That was their decision. So I'm sorry guys, like, you know, if two companies were founded, and one does really well, and one doesn't do as well, the smarter guy may have a worse company, but he's smarter and what does he get equal amount of money now? I'm sorry, life isn't always fair. Love it.
Matt Every 0:39
All right. Welcome back. Well, is it Welcome back? How long have we been? Two weeks? Yeah, welcome back to another episode straight down the middle. And here we go. today. I have one of my good buddies and old college teammate of mine. Now he is a private investor and currently Ponte Vedra is most eligible bachelor. Mr. Tyler Brown. Let's give it up for Tyler. Thanks, Tyler. Thanks for coming to be here.
Tyler Brown 1:08
Appreciate it.
Aron Price 1:09
That list is not public knowledge. But we have it he
Matt Every 1:12
I saw it in a magazine the other day. What are you talking about? Top 10 most eligible bachelors?
Scott Riley 1:18
St Johns County's finest?
Tyler Brown 1:20
So let's shortlist pretty shortlist.
Matt Every 1:24
Alright, this isn't our first this is our first show since the news came out about
Scott Riley 1:29
what do we call it? Is it they say it's a merger, this
Aron Price 1:32
merger was way too strong. But that's, that's how they'd like to do it this day attract the most eyeballs. And when I looked at it, the first word was merger. I don't think it's a merger. It's a partnership would say tall.
Tyler Brown 1:46
I would call it a minority investment into a large new to be formed for profit company.
Matt Every 1:51
Okay. And Tyler, your family was involved with the Tour as well. Yeah, for years, right?
Tyler Brown 1:56
Yeah, we were sponsors or partners for seven and a half years from 2011 through middle of 20 or late 2019. Okay,
Aron Price 2:05
yeah. web.com They were awesome. Like nothing wrong with nationwide but when David and the whole crew came on, I think I guess just being in town and having you know, like a you know, really like really invested you're in the town you're on the same team and not the nationwide wasn't there in Columbus and they did a great job. But that took that to it to a new level. I thought
Tyler Brown 2:30
Yeah, you know, these companies evolve nationwide had a they had an objective for eight years. And it was to have their name out there on a consistent basis over the course of the season. And then it evolved to what sponsor a big tournament. So same thing for what we want to get our name out there, make a splash. It worked. And then the company we we went private we were on NASDAQ publicly traded for a while. And then when we changed the company, we we sold the sponsorship back to the tour.
Scott Riley 2:55
Okay, were you all the ones who helped bring the was of the web.com finals to Atlantic Beach?
Tyler Brown 3:01
We were Yeah, we wanted to make the event very local, very Jacksonville oriented. So yeah, it was at TPC Sawgrass in the valley, of course, which I'm sure you guys played it a couple times. Yeah. Yeah, it was a great event, but kind of in the shadow of the Players Championship, or the players and we wanted to make it its own standalone identity. So we, we thought like what's, what's a good course or community that really represents the beach vibe, and kind of what makes Jacksonville really cool. So AB was it.
Matt Every 3:27
It was awesome to those events? were awesome. All right. Let's get back to the to the lift stuff. Yeah, the tour stuff. Let's let's dive right in. Off the RIP, tell me your feelings.
Aron Price 3:39
Got to wait and see. So eventually, originally, when it all came out, we saw players saying this saying that. And Jeff Ogawa thoughts summed it up beautifully right out of the player meetings, like, I'm not going to stand here and pretend that I know what's going on and cast you no doubts over this. And they say we've got to wait and see clearly. It must have come out early. And they wanted they wanted to have some form of sort of framework. And maybe there was a fear of a leak or whatever. But the macro is, is this going to work together? We don't know what form they've got to work it out. Just wait and see. Maybe so maybe not might be the best thing ever. And might not. But I'm willing to wait and see. Of course, I don't know. Shit.
Scott Riley 4:21
It was it was the most shocking announcement. Unbelievable. In my lifetime in sports. I mean, just the way it had to feel internally to shift. what you've been saying this entire time. Now you're going the other way. I mean,
Aron Price 4:35
III would I was in ninth hole and someone texts
Matt Every 4:37
me just that you're playing with Cam Smith.
Aron Price 4:41
yelled out, I was in the car. They're late greens at Pathri D wood. So you're not gonna believe this. Vijay, Joe to merge with LIV golf, whatever. And candidly, I hear if I can add it, you know, above and then you know, there was I said now this is CNBC. That whoever sent it to me it was from CNBC. And then stopped reading and then someone got on the tours website and was on there. And then he spoke with his agent and said, yeah, there's going to be a pre recorded announcement played at 1030 on CNBC so we all watched it and it wasn't like there was cheering or or moaning. It was just like, shock shock. Like, there's nothing in this let's wait and see. But it's, it seems positive for the macro like, I don't know, there's obviously not everyone can win. And we'll talk about the scalpel because Jay Monahan, like different situation, he's will talk about these old timers, he, not everyone can win ever, when you're dealing with the two
Matt Every 5:36
tie to Tyler, give me your feelings.
Tyler Brown 5:40
The first feeling was negative, about 10 minutes later became positive. Once I actually saw Jays letter to the players and an outline what they were doing. And it clarified that it wasn't a merger, it wasn't the Saudis taking over control the tour, then I realized that this is probably the growth investment tour needed to really be able to change their business model dramatically. I mean, they've been kind of, you know, it's an old, tangled company that's been around for a long time. So to really drive meaningful change, something needed to come from the outside, either, you know, either environmentally or investment. So, you know, I think it's going to be I think history will tell us, I think right now, a lot of the noises around how it came to be, you know, the the social cultural aspect of it, the
Aron Price 6:20
secretive, probably wasn't playing also golf, Twitter is
Matt Every 6:24
just, yeah, it's pretty loud, special place in hell.
Aron Price 6:28
And some of the players do some of the plays coming out, like, Hold on, I don't even know like, what's what this is gonna be. And everyone's like, tall. We talked about this the other day about some of the golfers. Some of them are friends, no disrespect, but I don't think you get it with a lot of other sports. A lot of these guys because they play programs are around business guys that wealthy themselves. They literally that'd be 97 guys on the two of them think they could do jam on hands job, and none of them could do it.
Matt Every 6:54
Yeah. And the loudest ones are, they're always thinking micro, usually. And those meetings, that's for sure. The case I've sat in the loudest ones, they're usually the dumbest ones.
Tyler Brown 7:05
Yeah, the players get together and they start to spread rumors, they started to kind of build this, this narrative. And it's, it's obviously based in some sort of truth, but they become very frustrated, I've heard a lot of frustration over the years from players and, you know, having been on I was not a tour player, but I was, you know, a golfer for a number of years.
Aron Price 7:23
You know, the same level without playing until you played high level means is you beat us like, without being the you understand everything, what it takes to be good golf,
Tyler Brown 7:34
was on the players side, so to speak. I was on the client side for a while, and I'm a fan of the tour. So I've seen all the different perspectives, at least three of the four perspectives, the fourth being the tournament side, and it just seems like there's a lot of criticism, but you look at the last year and a half and what what Jays done, and the players are making more money, the products gotten better on TV. So I think as far as results, which ultimately matter the most results are getting better. And so in five years and ever since a couple billion dollars coming in eventually it'll look pretty good. Alright, people need to relax.
Matt Every 8:06
Relax, I'm gonna give my initial reaction. Now, when I heard it, initial shock, then I watched it and just knowing Jay. The way I have a personal relationship, which we're all members, same course hit balls with Jay on the back of the range of Pablo. Plenty of times got nine
Matt Every 8:28
members just him. He's He's a dude. He's
Matt Every 8:31
a dude. He's a great guy. He's got a massive heart.
Aron Price 8:34
He's a great dude.
Matt Every 8:35
He is this guy. He's been very uncomfortable up there, but for for good reason. I mean, he has been through. Okay, Tim Fincham had Tiger Woods. Jay Monahan said COVID. And the Saudis. All right. This guy has been through the ringer tip. What pissed me off after it? I knew I know, he wouldn't have made this. There. There's no way there would have been a decision made like this. If we didn't absolutely have to make this decision. Okay. I'm not smart enough to sit here and tell you yes or no. But I know Jay would not have made that decision. If we didn't have to make that decision. He
Aron Price 9:15
didn't want to make that decision clearly. So I know
Matt Every 9:18
where my feelings start to change is when these like middle of the road players start ganging up and basically throwing spears at Jay get fucked. Are you kidding me? Like this guy? I don't care if you're on His Word or whatever he's running. You can't make everybody happy. First of all, you got
Aron Price 9:44
we got segments. You had top 50 or 50 to 100 Who could be top
Matt Every 9:47
for you got Top 10 Top 10 players. I mean, right? They dry they run the show does is
Tyler Brown 9:53
it top 10 or top 30 or
Aron Price 9:56
top 20. There's 20 Guys
Scott Riley 9:58
so the middle tier or the Basically the comments section but the
Matt Every 10:01
bot the middle there, actually yes and yes, yeah, middle to the bottom are the loudest ones they think micro and it pissed me off. Then them ganging up on on Jay Jay did not there was nothing malicious behind this.
Aron Price 10:17
If they could have stood alone, of course, they would have liked to have the history, they have the infrastructure to get everything that you need to run the tour. But obviously, they were clearly hamstrung in some way whether it be
Matt Every 10:28
and this is great news. It's great news. It's a ton of money for these guys.
Scott Riley 10:34
I think my my initial reaction was relief that okay, this is it feels like the battle is over. We can let the dust settle. This is all going to shake out you got some smart guys running the show. I think Monahan has done a fantastic job ever since this started. I mean, he didn't ask for this. And there was nobody's offered a perfect plan to come out and combat the Saudis. Their back was against the wall. Again, every support system and they were bleeding money would have never thought that the PGA Tour didn't have deep enough pockets to continue to this fight. But it is the lawyers one here but Hindsight
Aron Price 11:07
is 2020. But I went to Washington go to Canada last year. I was like, why is he doing it? Yeah, I need to do it. Yeah. Honestly, it just no comment, no comment, talk to your membership. And I don't know why he did that. And obviously he regrets it too. But you don't know how it's gone. I think he did it
Matt Every 11:25
because he cares so much. And he didn't like the way it was being spun. And he in his heart. It's genuine he wants I I know he's a good dude. So I know he's a good dude. This was there was nothing skeezy about about this, it had to be done. And honestly,
Aron Price 11:44
like, let's be honest, I don't think the tours really finished a lawsuit they always seem to settle. J may be holding for other commissioners that have done stuff that can't get out. Who knows? I'm not saying any conspiracy theories. Well, how much of this had just for everyone needs relaxed?
Matt Every 12:01
Yeah, like, in the in the situation the tour was and how much of it had to do with we can't afford to go down this road like, like, we literally can't afford to or we don't want the the disclosure of documents on both sides. Do you think that had more to do with it? Or do you think it was a financial situation that they were gonna gonna have to face head on in two years?
Tyler Brown 12:24
There's a lot of opinions about the, you know, the dirty laundry that could get aired out on both sides. I know, having been a client of that tour, they're very aboveboard, they're very buttoned up. I mean, every company has its, you know, skeletons or things that wish they hadn't done a certain way. But I think it's, it's more about the money about the economics, I mean, jays back to Jay, like, we all know him pretty well. He's a very loyal guy. He's a good business person and a good person altogether. And so I think he's incentivized as a commissioner, to make more money for the players to make the product better and make the clients sponsors happier, which he is, and he's personally invested in that success. So he's, I think, his passion, in his kind of his motivation is to make this a great product and to grow the tour's presence across the world. So, you know, to get angry at them. You can even argue the tactics and the path that got there, you know, a year ago in Canada or whatever, but I think, really, what what matters is, what are the results say? is, you know, and what's the path he's gonna lay out going forward, which we'll find out a path in two months, I guess.
Scott Riley 13:27
But he's done. He's done a great job as CEO. I mean, he's running a company and now people are getting into the, you know, like a brand or calling about what does this mean for the game? Like, this is the business of golf. This isn't the game of golf. I mean, this is I think,
Matt Every 13:43
games undefeated. Look at that shit last week in Canada a lot. It was awesome.
Aron Price 13:47
Shambler is never going to change his opinions. Who's going to keep flogging a dead horse and he's just gonna like mellow out like he's just his whole thing has been ridiculous to have it the blood. I've said it. Go and look at your 401k look at all your investment you like who you're investing in Pfizer, the global economy? Just just and my other thing was with people that if the Saudis have tons of money, is it better off staying there or coming into America? Like I don't know how much tax these guys are on LIV Dustin Johnson all played last year? It's probably a fair amount of tax to the US government. isn't a better been over here. Are we better off partnering with those guys then? I don't know. I'm not into geopolitics much but that's so he said he goes and does something with Russia or China or work something out.
Matt Every 14:34
What do you think about the guys okay, and I want to break this down on different levels. There's obviously the ROM and the ROI level those guys but middle of the road to back end guys barely kept a card about wanting to be compensated for staying loyalty. Okay, hold on.
Scott Riley 14:53
If your job got easier than some of the guys left
Matt Every 14:55
and there's more money, like I have, like the leader like Chesson Hadley was leading Last week after Canada and he went up there and he said, Well, I would like to be compensated. And are you kidding me to Mr. Bojangles? Absolutely
Aron Price 15:07
love just how they stop it, though. Well, I
Tyler Brown 15:10
mean that you're a tour member still. So what do you get for being a member? Right?
Matt Every 15:13
I shouldn't get shit. Why? Because if LIV gave me an offer, I had the opportunity to entertain it or not. Those guys entertained it. They took a big risk. If
Aron Price 15:23
you didn't get an offer. I don't understand you're right. You've already benefited from it. The person? What do you need to then? So I don't know say I
Matt Every 15:32
understand that the ROMs and the stories that turned out are Hideki turned on Spirit Airlines, I understand that. They maybe should get some kind of, it's hard to make up 500 million, or whatever it was. The lower end dudes.
Aron Price 15:48
But again, it was their choice. So this is going to be a maybe my angle is going wrong to say, hey, Becky got off its run. And he said, No. I'm with you. I'm not saying you should or you shouldn't I'm just throwing it out there. It's pretty straight down the middle ish. But if they could have taken it wasn't like they weren't allowed to take it. They could have some of the guys did. And they made money the other guys everyone's gonna benefit here at some level, but trying to keep everyone happy. It's not going to happen. Some people have to take a small l and realize that, hey, we're still gonna be playing for more money. The Piaf is
Matt Every 16:22
playing for more money. They already are. Yep. It's a great
Aron Price 16:25
problem to be here and to have isn't where they're at.
Tyler Brown 16:28
You know, business is not always fair, right? And this was these guys it was their individual businesses and the torque didn't say, you couldn't go they said, if you go, you can't come back. So you had to be ready to go. And they were free to go. And I think a lot of those guys chose legacy and purpose over money. Yep. And at that time, given what they knew what the tour told them, which was all true at the time, given all the informations out there. That was their decision. So I'm sorry, guys, like, you know, if two companies were founded in one does really well, and one doesn't do as well. The smarter guy may have a worse company, but he's smarter. What does he get equal amount of money now? I'm sorry, life isn't always fair. Love it
Scott Riley 17:04
most astonishing was the speed. I mean, it's been one year. Well, I mean, how, and they've had a couple of wins in court, the tour has, and illegal fees blew me away. Oh, my gosh, we're in the wrong business.
Tyler Brown 17:18
You said 15,000,050 50. You
Aron Price 17:21
projected over like X amount. And I've already written that but either way astonishing a man good lawyers
Scott Riley 17:28
are worth that. But so what do you all think? What's I mean? Is there a crystal ball, what's to come of LIV, they there's talk of you know, at the end of the year, we'll take a look at it and thinking with Monahan and control, he's going to squash it. I kind of doubt that I don't think that LIV is dead. I think that the team concept is something that the money that's coming into the tour wants to see, push forward and succeed.
Matt Every 17:51
I think LIV's dead.
Aron Price 17:53
I have an idea in my mind. But that's just my own thing would be so cricket, which is not that big over here. I think cricket is make 70% of their money in six weeks in the IPL the Indian Premier League cricket, it's mad, there's 20,000 people watching, but just a short season. So I don't know if it would work. And the guys do want offseason. Maybe the tour runs from January to August. Then the rest is the is the LIV event goes 810 weeks two or three in America around the world. Everyone's fine on the same plane. So the traveling will be as easy as possible to be like a traveling circus. They're going to get paid tons of money. They're going to entertain all the way around the world. The whole planet is going to get to see them play. That's how I would hope it works. But I don't know. I don't know.
Matt Every 18:34
Okay, what about what's the scam? Scam? Oh and his team?
Aron Price 18:39
How are you? I think he's 25%. Okay,
Matt Every 18:41
it's 25% on or when he was 25% owner and it was just LIV. Let's be real at the way LIV was going that team was worth zero or zero. Now the tour is acquired, or they're they're partnering up that team is worth a lot more money and
Aron Price 19:01
correct the potential. Yeah.
Matt Every 19:04
So what happens there?
Tyler Brown 19:05
I think LIV in team golf are two different things. I think the brand LIV in my opinion will probably go away because there's no real equity in the brand. I think team golf in the concept is valuable because there's a different competitive component that fans are going to want to watch now. Are the guys gonna want to play a full season? And then during their offseason go travel, you know, around the world for 10 weeks? Probably not. But is there a way you could do it where
Aron Price 19:29
you know, subs or something? Yeah. To me, it's
Tyler Brown 19:31
more like the golf product needs to evolve. I mean, think about golf tournaments are four days. They've been the same for 100 years, right and it's hard it's hard for the modern consumer to watch four days of any event or competition they want to watch two hours or three hours like an NBA game. Yeah, so to me this opens the door to incorporate team formats are different formats that make golf shorter and more interesting. You know, like the new Monday night tomorrow golf thing which is a whole different ball of wax but I think LIV is going to go away team golf is gonna be bigger and more important going forward.
Scott Riley 20:04
The TGL like, I'm glad you did, what's to come of TGL?
Tyler Brown 20:08
Is it TGL or tomorrow golfers?
Scott Riley 20:10
Both tomorrow golf League. Yeah, that's like a simulator league with players like,
Matt Every 20:17
I haven't heard anything about. I mean, I will talk to everyone setting onto it. But it's kind of been
Tyler Brown 20:22
it's moving. There's behind the scenes, there's deals being done. There's, they're building the teams, they're building the format. I mean, they've got they're building a location in Palm Beach. I think if they knew
Matt Every 20:32
getting back to the to the LIV thing real quick with the team as just team aspects in golf. I have talked to quite a few players and I know Aaron has to on the LIV and they are all in on the team stuff like Harold Varner. Because it's fun. Herod Vaughn told me is the best part out there because the team, the team aspect,
Aron Price 20:51
and that's what just came is like, I feel like been a little agitated lately, because they're not playing to their ability as a team. And it's more fun. If you're a finishing third, second first, then you know, in the bottom six, so
Scott Riley 21:04
need more 6am workouts with Brooksie
Aron Price 21:09
goes back to the point of my previous episodes, if you ask a golfer like why they're so excited to play in the Ryder Cup Presidents Cup because it's fun, like a lot of times you're on your own out there and we've all played individual sport for years. It's not but if you got someone next to you and you're on a team, there's something calming about it. It's a different set of nerves but an obviously when when you pull it off and you're when it's it's fun to celebrate with two or three or four or five others rather than you know, you have your own team and your trainer and all that but it's not the same. Who do you
Matt Every 21:41
think the biggest losers will be coming out of this?
Matt Every 21:45
The low level LIV Guy Yeah, same.
Aron Price 21:47
Yeah, they're
Aron Price 21:48
there and they're gonna struggle. Yeah, Ogletree and maybe Jared.
Tyler Brown 21:52
I mean, the top 1220 Live guys will be fine. We don't know what
Matt Every 21:57
their names alone. They already had tour status. So they've passed champions and come back. But if you came out of like Andy Ogletree or chase Caprica, which Chase cup you're going to do now?
Scott Riley 22:07
What was he doing before?
Aron Price 22:08
I know he had a good run exactly. Go out that won't be mad at all. Hey,
Matt Every 22:12
I know they got money. But I mean, that's the thing too, I
Aron Price 22:15
think Monahan that are gonna do it. Very, right. Like, did they come back? And what's the penalty? And does this guy get some money for stay and
Scott Riley 22:22
gotta create a path back for these guys, whether you punish them by making them you know, earn their card back? Or you're just you're wise about it? These guys these guys are,
Aron Price 22:32
though work it and that's where I think the membership will get a say, will they get to dictate? No, but they'll have a voice and it'll I think it's all gonna be fine.
Tyler Brown 22:42
Do you guys think players will get equity in this new for profit company?
Matt Every 22:46
If they do? I hope it's like only five guys.
Tyler Brown 22:49
How do you pick the five? Yeah, that's
Aron Price 22:51
that's impulsive and how much equity in
Tyler Brown 22:53
it isn't merit based performance based? How
Scott Riley 22:55
do you quantify this? Correct?
Tyler Brown 22:56
Right? I've heard 50 different ideas. Maybe 10?
Scott Riley 23:00
Like the you can find ways to get it to him. What is
Matt Every 23:02
the best idea? You've heard
Aron Price 23:03
like 10% of profits distributed?
Tyler Brown 23:06
I haven't heard any good ideas. I think what you could do this is gonna I shouldn't say this out loud. But you could issue a little bit of shares every year based on performance you could break it you know, based like FedEx Cup, and then you know, based on every year those are there's new shares issued so it's not like you get a big lump sum your first year because we've already but it could be Hey, your real race so here's like some kind of PIP plus performance ranking, here's your shares and the next year we'll rebrand everybody based on because it's got to be based on media and kind of brand equity of the player plus performance on the course kind of
Scott Riley 23:39
an earn out like a way to like like an earn out Yeah. You gotta find a way to get like the Rory is the guys that stuck there. Okay,
Matt Every 23:47
do you think jet Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna play Jay for a second with was it Yasir Yasir? Yes, sir. Yeah, yes, sir. Okay. Jason meeting with Yasser. Alright, look, I get it, we can do this. But man, I need you to do me a solid, whatever you offered those guys. Like, can you just wire it to him? separately? And then we'll do this deal. I mean,
Tyler Brown 24:11
when they pay taxes, nobody will No, no, yeah, that's right. There's a lot of there's a lot of tax this not to get too in the weeds here. But there's a lot of complexity behind how the money gets distributed. Someone told me their day, oh, the toilet, like the Saudis will give a billion dollar checks to tour which will get like issued at the top 20 players and I'm thinking, Well, if your number 21 That's kind of a bad deal. You know, that's not gonna doesn't make sense to me, but I'm sure there's gonna be a room with a whiteboard and 30 ideas and weeks and weeks of analysis and whatever.
Aron Price 24:37
But they'll come out with the best solution possible. I'm pretty confident that
Matt Every 24:41
just like, very competent steel. That's kind of the same thing.
Tyler Brown 24:44
Yeah. Yeah. I wonder how much we'll learn about what would Intuit and why this is the decision of the plan, and we'll hear the plan. But if it's a for profit company, it's private. Yeah. They don't tell us everything. So we'll just have to kind of keep guessing to an extent but
Aron Price 24:58
again, the POA If I put a bunch of money in, it's gonna go to the golfers on the tour. Shut up. Stop complaining. Like yes, you may have given up a deal to go to lie, but you gave up. Like, it's your choice. choices have consequences and I'm not on either side. I think I've never have been, but it's the screaming kid or we're going to just keep rewarding. Like when just, it's gonna be fun.
Scott Riley 25:27
Speaking of squeaky wheels wonder about Greg Norman's future and all this. He's out
Aron Price 25:32
and he's been quiet target has been quiet. It's for people that have been quiet. A tiger
Matt Every 25:35
is very quiet. Surgery to them maybe? Probably it's not much. What can you say? Yeah,
Scott Riley 25:43
he turned over turn over the mic. He turned that over
Tyler Brown 25:46
until you know anything like everybody else. We're just guessing on what what is and what will be, you know, back to the last week or the two weeks ago the player meeting and just mentioned up front. Having to see picturing J up there just getting like insults and criticism hurled at him by a large majority of the room just it feels very unprofessional and very businesslike, which is this is a business conversation. This is not a town hall meeting where you should just there was
Matt Every 26:11
a guy that was in there on Tik Tok with his phone like this. Oh, here's the man of the hour just doing it for I mean, get out of here. Do your clown get out of here.
Aron Price 26:21
And for Jay Monahan not to like, I could never do it because you know I am but imagine these people have got no fucking clue. Nothing about balance sheets wouldn't even know what a balance sheet look like. They got no clue. Up there Gumby. Ah, I would tell it houses. I was Jacob. You could see what he's thinking. It'd be projected like sit down you little flea got no clue what I've been dealing with for the last year you little fucking piece of shit.
Scott Riley 26:50
I mean, how's that kosher to have a phone in there, your turn on filming for Tik Tok? It's, check it out kicked out.
Matt Every 26:57
We live in now, man. And people actually think that those kinds of guys are cool, too. So unbelievable. Well, the
Tyler Brown 27:02
players were pissed about not being in the loop. And then they've already proven the past year that they're going to publish wherever they sit anyway. So they've not all the players, a few players don't have a lot of credibility or trust, because they save
Matt Every 27:15
something to to the you have to send it to all of them. You can't just pick the players you want to send stuff to. So yeah, you're right.
Scott Riley 27:21
I do. I do love how it all went down. Jimmy doon sends a WhatsApp message do you guys hear like, how do you get the oscillators contact? And then boom, their next thing they're meeting in like Switzerland? Or it sounds like a Bond film?
Matt Every 27:36
I wonder if it was like, That would be cool. If it was all documented. Today, we get to see it. I think
Aron Price 27:41
him being part of it seems to have a lot of credibility of successful businessman lost a lot of people, you know, Jimmy Dunne in the 911 thing? I don't know. I just think it makes a lot of sense that if he's going down this path, you know, he's sensitive to a lot of issues that happened 20 years ago. That's that's a good thing, have trust in that it's hard to trust someone you don't really know. But I think it's a good thing.
Tyler Brown 28:05
Well, from a from a deal standpoint, you know, the, there's probably going to be two or three or four really key points to the deal that they outlined on CNBC and in the player letter, but the agreement hasn't been written yet. And there's gonna be a lot of little nuance in there. But ultimately, if the Saudis put money in, and it's not a controlling interest, the tour still has control like it has had for, you know, 50 years. Now, if, in five years, the Saudis put more money in or individual deals, they have more money. And then that's where it gets complicated, where you've got more conflict of interest about who's calling who has a vested interest in different decisions and things. And that's, that's kind of the piece that we need to understand better. But it sounds like based on what the talking points were, that Jay, in the tours, current board have control. And the Saudis are kind of along for the ride to make money and to have a little more of a cultural exposure to to American sports.
Aron Price 28:58
I can sit at the table. But guess
Matt Every 29:00
what, that's kind of what they wanted the whole time. Right. So you know, if you flip the other side to that would be the argument that the lift guys would say it was this is what we wanted all along. And you didn't entertain this idea at the start. A lot of those players will say that over there. Well,
Tyler Brown 29:16
what about this? What if the tour had talked to PGL? The other group, right, yeah, a couple years ago, and the Saudis and what if there was a plan and Jay goes to the board and the players and says, Hey, we're going to totally revolutionize our tour. Three years ago, though, they would have how would that go? What Yeah, I mean, it's easy now looking back and saying well, why you know, you could kind of armchair quarterback it, but that'd be a really hard sell. I'd say maybe impossible sell at that point.
Matt Every 29:44
Impossible. Yeah.
Scott Riley 29:46
That's a great point. I mean, that was out there. That was I think before LIV and Norman were even talked about the PGL was was coming for the tour. Yeah.
Matt Every 29:56
What's going on with your golf game now? Are you I mean, I play If the date was pretty freakin good,
Tyler Brown 30:02
that was the worst I've played in TV too. You play a lot of golf then. Now I think I did too many pull ups in the gym that morning something wasn't wasn't firing you had me. That was your chance to get to really get down. I think we broke even
Aron Price 30:15
without any hit. What's your index?
Matt Every 30:18
Are you not trying to qualify for like stuff like you shouldn't be playing? You should be
Aron Price 30:23
above the US football. I am I'm just satisfied.
Matt Every 30:26
Did you try that? US football?
Tyler Brown 30:28
I tried to qualify last year. Robbie white former Gator we were we played it down a golden Ocala qualifier. We
Matt Every 30:34
didn't even sniff it. Play with Solly one time.
Tyler Brown 30:37
I did Yeah. Two years ago. It was called the it's a tournament at Golden Corral. It's a it's a three day four ball tournament. And so when a qualifier that was no it was like an invitational tournament. We finished I think third we did pretty pretty well. But he's a good player. He's hits a pretty good competitor, but but I've been trying to get back into competitive golf the last couple of years. You know, it's one of those things where you play in the Club Championship, you played your buddies and you shoot 65 Then you your game used to travel, you know somewhere else and
Matt Every 31:06
like you can run for his money, bro.
Scott Riley 31:09
I think if he's being humble, and
Matt Every 31:13
now you can you're being way too humble. Like do you not want to, like play them? Or do you not want to play like the Northeast amateur and just things for you now or?
Tyler Brown 31:23
Yeah, yeah, I think I think I want to compete and play five tournaments a year. But yeah, I did do this. This winter, I laid out a schedule and said, What would it take to prepare and to qualify, because I'm not on the radar right now. So I had to qualify and earn, you know, eligibility. And I'd have to commit like eight or 10 weeks of my year because in these here's the funny part. We don't realize this now because we were college kids, but the tournaments are all Monday through Friday or Monday through Sunday. So it's a full work week. You know, and you're like, like last summer I played in the southern end qualifier at Seaside or at plantation shot 6768 Miss by like one or two Come Holy shit. Yeah, it's like a Monday qualifier for a Korn Ferry event. Yeah, it was. It was pretty tough, but I think I was sitting on the spot on the way here, you know, now that we're playing more golf together.
Matt Every 32:10
You want me to get my I'm satisfied. I'm close.
Tyler Brown 32:12
I'm thinking back. We could we could fourball it together.
Matt Every 32:15
100% do that. How long would it take me to get my I'm satisfied?
Aron Price 32:21
It's mine.
Scott Riley 32:23
Did you find Have you filed? Yeah, I
Aron Price 32:24
didn't hit the end button.
Scott Riley 32:26
Pete John Peterson did that I think he got it back on. Yeah,
Aron Price 32:29
I think we're it's retroactive. It used to be a little while and once or important for us. I'm good. Mine
Tyler Brown 32:34
took two weeks. Really? They were like you're not relevant. How
Matt Every 32:37
long did you play? So
Aron Price 32:38
my mom would say two weeks ago because I haven't done it.
Matt Every 32:40
How long did you try for few years?
Tyler Brown 32:43
I played five or six years? Yeah, yeah. So Matt, what do you think guys? Here's a story about Matt and Pablo two weeks ago this is brutal
Aron Price 32:52
right on the back nine again.
Tyler Brown 32:54
He tries he tries to give me strokes so we're out he's you know making every 20 footer he's like to wander through six holes or whatever. And he's like I feel bad. Let me give you like a half stroke on nine and a half an 18 And
Matt Every 33:06
I told him I told him that the start we're playing auto one
Tyler Brown 33:09
downs first of all never gonna take shots from you he was he was about to lose you're not you're good but you're not that
Matt Every 33:15
I don't think I have either. Yeah
Aron Price 33:19
the one on the back when he plays me I'm always winning at the turn and then I get crushed.
Tyler Brown 33:22
So we did we did a doubler nothing on 18 and Matt couldn't he couldn't he couldn't follow through we had to wash the bed out
Matt Every 33:30
What do you mean I lost right you lost yeah what we bought Thai team or do you beat me?
Aron Price 33:36
I beat SHINee to never remember
Tyler Brown 33:37
great memory with no half struggle with Mads bad so you don't forget because he for four hours he tells you how much better he is and you got and when you when you're like oh, I can't forget this.
Scott Riley 33:47
It's hard to keep his
Matt Every 33:49
dream really humble out there with you. You are for you. You were good. I changed a lot since college.
Aron Price 33:55
What's your index? We should be good match. Like a plus
Tyler Brown 33:57
two or three? Plus 1.80 Stop and i plus one point I
Aron Price 34:01
am I hit every card.
Scott Riley 34:03
I love entering my score.
Aron Price 34:05
I should 72
Matt Every 34:06
So there's some vanity or I love the vanity handicap so that like to gamble better
Tyler Brown 34:13
we know gotta keep a little we know a few of those
Scott Riley 34:17
title how'd you I mean you sound way more educated than University of Florida. How did you wind up there School of Business
Tyler Brown 34:25
at University of Florida? Yeah. So actually I played two years at UNF North Florida and then I transferred to Florida my last three years and you know it was kind of my dream to play big level D one golf play with you had to play in the shadow of Matt every was was a huge dream of mine. So I had a chance to do it. Now. It was one of those things where I was a late bloomer. You know, in college, I kind of started to own my game a little more than not be trying to be a long hitter shape the ball left and right just kind of be more of a scrappy, efficient golfer and that worked. actually lost him that he played remember the story, but um Sup guys Country Club, the Mercedes Benz tournament. I birdied the last three holes to least to you by one shot, and we get done and I'm like, hey man, congrats. I'm feeling pretty good myself. And he's like, he's just pissed about his finisher bogey the last hole or whatever, it just wouldn't stop talking about how bad he finished and I'm like, I had like, the best tournament my life and we're not even like, Come on, dude. Come on. Give me a summary of own here. I'm sorry. That's okay. That's okay. I mean, it wasn't made it was I would not do that. That's That's why you want and I didn't that's what
Aron Price 35:27
happens when you do I'll just
Matt Every 35:29
I do remember that tournament. I don't remember you finish in second.
Tyler Brown 35:34
Water. Cuz I was good.
Matt Every 35:35
No, it's good. being real. I deserve that. That place is so that tournament was so cold. That's probably what I remember most about that tournament was the time of year the hate
Aron Price 35:43
I was at that tournament. US week in February. It's always bad weather.
Scott Riley 35:47
Man. I was following you in your group. Actually. We all love to use rangefinders back then. No, no, no thank God, a rangefinder and us helping you. There's a funny, retro, you can have that Mercedes. Fun. That's a great trophy. One. You get like an SL or something.
Tyler Brown 36:05
I got one mindset a second place on it. It's pretty cool.
Matt Every 36:07
That was a good trophy. They just punched it, man. It was freaking like a gusta. Two months ago.
Scott Riley 36:12
Gotta let it breathe. Man going into the summer. You played
Matt Every 36:15
yesterday. And yeah, I played
Tyler Brown 36:16
nine holes yesterday punch. It was deep, deep punch, but it's playable. Yeah.
Aron Price 36:22
Right after they punch it. It's fun. It's about like five days after a punch and it starts getting a little
Tyler Brown 36:27
II when the top dress wears off. Yeah. I like how they do it over three months, because then the rest of the year is perfect. You know, they're not disrupting really good fall conditions for another punch. They kind of get it out of the way. When we're out of town and it's hot.
Scott Riley 36:40
Do you have three punches this summer? There's three,
Tyler Brown 36:43
which
Matt Every 36:43
is when we were supposed to every week, right?
Aron Price 36:46
I think so. Yeah. Yeah. I doing the medium
Scott Riley 36:48
short term pain?
Tyler Brown 36:49
I'll do the midam I'll probably do the Jacksonville psidium. Or is that San Jose, San Jose this year right down the street in the middle
Aron Price 36:56
of Sleepy Hollow. I played the last Thanksgiving places. Amazing. Yeah, you need
Matt Every 37:02
to I need to get my amateur status back to it takes us
Tyler Brown 37:06
yes and pricey. You're on the you're on like the country club circuit. Right now. You're playing all the top courses.
Matt Every 37:12
Let's say tell us about these. Coming up, how it worked out.
Aron Price 37:16
It gets better. We'll see if it happens. No, just a group of guys from he flying over to Scotland for eight days. I can't go out of work. And I was originally supposed to be in Australia the whole month of June. So as I said can't go. I'm here we're going into seminar. So one of the guys has rented G 550 to go over there. And originally it was going to go over there and sit there and then come back. Well, since then, it's been charted out back over here so it's got to come back. So in order to go get them it's going over empty on the 27th we can get on land lately as Chicago so maybe go up in the morning to Chicago
Matt Every 37:55
booking a commercial flight to Chicago. Yeah, play golf there.
Aron Price 37:58
But the National Assembly assembly cool, finite and fly 6pm Lanza 7am. We just did it. We'll try and get on trim. But Troon has the British Open next year and we may be able to bear the mount we've been told no. But we have press week for the day. As many holes as you want. And we're coat and tie. And the second day, maybe Trump, Turnberry or Loch Lomond. I don't know we're trying to figure that out. But we'll be there for like 30 hours and then get on the G 550. Back with the guys from Jacksonville.
Tyler Brown 38:30
What do you guys pay him to do that? It's free.
Aron Price 38:32
It's free over and I the guy who's written the 550 just said to everyone else. Just give me the equivalent of a business class ticket which is like five grand so we'll give two and a half grand to come back. Wow, that ends up being like a favorite meal to cool trip. Dude, that's awesome. Or what I wanted to do, I wouldn't
Matt Every 38:53
want to get off that plane. Let's just spend the time the 20
Scott Riley 38:57
Chicago
Aron Price 38:58
is a Thursday. I was gonna fly straight to Malaga and the LI ve event is about aroma. But I can't because Lucy's got her she's got a trip plan. So
Scott Riley 39:07
Oh, yes. Right. You got a wife to
Aron Price 39:09
Spain. Yeah.
Matt Every 39:12
There's always, always get in the way.
Aron Price 39:16
We do have a northern Michigan trip planned for September. It's gonna be good. You do? Yeah, the kids know. golf trip.
Matt Every 39:23
Oh, another golf trip. Yeah,
Scott Riley 39:25
Pure Michigan who's calling?
Aron Price 39:27
Like night? Capozzi, Becca.
Tyler Brown 39:31
Same goes for Scotland. Different career,
Aron Price 39:33
different career but I just liked playing I've you know, when I played golf bit like I don't know if you do the same, but I love playing other courses. I never knew like architects. I didn't know that. You know, CB MacDonald the Greenbrier and those crazy greens and I'd played a few at Yale as well and an NCAA thing but now I'm interested I'm not above from those Zac Blair are running out but I just enjoy it. Yeah. So if I get the opportunity, I try and do it. You play Tree Farm yet have you know Doc invited me? Doc flew up there and a little single engine doc Redmond's getting his pilot license. But I just come back from we did the Baker's beam me guest at the trip to Chicago for five days and then the US Open qualifier I played like Marian and National Golf Links, get back and ducks like hey, do you wanna get a tree farm Saturday Sunday? And I probably could have gone I just felt guilty.
Scott Riley 40:23
I played TPC Sawgrass on a simulator in San Marco the other day what do you shoot well we quit after eight holes so have you played
Tyler Brown 40:36
pretty deep haven't played it hurt it's pretty looks cool great piece of land for golf course
Aron Price 40:41
I think exactly owns that land. Really? That's a that so he started we shouldn't have always he started that company in the club and had covers in that and from that profits I think he he bought the land outright now could be completely wrong. Obviously the whole construction on crazy crazy money it's
Scott Riley 40:57
attractive land investors, but
Aron Price 40:59
I think he ends the land. It had
Scott Riley 41:00
been long earmarked for a course I believe that's what Tron is telling us.
Aron Price 41:05
Speaking of land, you know when you fly on planes in that Have you ever seen with Georgia Florida border just in the Florida side? It's been very north end of familiar on the cliffs. That would be the best golf course on Earth. Isn't there already a now there's nothing out there it's all I preservation land or whatever but taller make me make some calls
Scott Riley 41:23
talking about the Washington.
Aron Price 41:26
What excellent what else like 20 miles inland? Oh, yeah. This is like on the coast. Yeah, I know. You're talking about the St. Marys river where it starts from the Atlantic like a 40
Matt Every 41:35
foot cliff is saying they're kinda it's
Tyler Brown 41:38
it might be environmental is something where it's there's a certain conservation easement or whatever. Cool. Yes. Give
Scott Riley 41:44
it some time. Well, yes.
Aron Price 41:47
Whatever the part of the part of the TPC headquarters, it will be just the tour have Jacksonville they'll have Amelia Island.
Scott Riley 41:55
Not a bad idea.
Tyler Brown 41:56
So just to be clear, Aaron if we want to go on a golf trip, we need a private jet for you to come.
Aron Price 42:01
No, no. I find the toilet I fly anyway. And in a commercial plane. No way. I get lucky enough to get on some of these PJs. But no, I went to Chicago and in Pennsylvania on just slumming it. Public airways
Tyler Brown 42:18
spirit airlines
Aron Price 42:21
fly anyway. I stayed Holiday Inns, wherever. Just do what I can.
Matt Every 42:28
All right, Tyler. Thanks for coming, brother, man.
Tyler Brown 42:31
That's fun. Yeah, good day. By the way. Congrats on the lifestyle golf brand. Thank you. It's going it's going really well. It's been fun to watch.
Matt Every 42:37
Yeah, it's grown and growing. We're all psyched on it.
Aron Price 42:40
I love this place to this is thank you new office.
Matt Every 42:44
We're breaking it in. It's about a month away from looking
Aron Price 42:48
the new orifice.
Scott Riley 42:50
We got a TV we got a fridge. I mean it's we're starting to add a few things but thanks for saying that. We're gonna take you in the back and get you some some merch swag. On
Tyler Brown 42:59
your travels, that'd be great. Thanks, guys. Cheers.
