Matt Every [00:00:00]:
Look at Dustin Johnson's Ryder Cup record. Why didn't he get picked? Did you see what going off that? No, he probably don't give a crap.
Doc Redman [00:00:06]:
Well, he said if he had, he felt like he'd been playing well enough to be picked or something. But since he played live where it was like, the most random thing ever.
Matt Every [00:00:14]:
And you're like, he is the best. We were down there.
Aron Price [00:00:16]:
He can't remember his record?
Doc Redman [00:00:17]:
No, I felt like I've been playing.
Matt Every [00:00:20]:
We were down there last week, and I was just catching up with him a little. What you up to? He's like, not much, man. He goes, you know, if I if I putt good, I win. If I don't, I finish 10th.
Aron Price [00:00:29]:
It's freaking great.
Scott Riley [00:00:34]:
Welcome to another episode of Straight Down the Middleish. We were just talking about Dr. Gil Morgan, which gave us inspiration to bring on Doc Redmond.
Doc Redman [00:00:43]:
How's it going?
Scott Riley [00:00:43]:
Welcome to the show, man.
Matt Every [00:00:45]:
Doc, you're 25 years old.
Doc Redman [00:00:47]:
25 years old?
Matt Every [00:00:48]:
Yeah. Why do I think you're, like, five years younger than me?
Doc Redman [00:00:50]:
I know. I've been around a bit.
Scott Riley [00:00:52]:
It's the mustache and the name.
Aron Price [00:00:56]:
The second doctor on the show, dr. Travis True.
Doc Redman [00:01:00]:
Number two is not bad.
Aron Price [00:01:01]:
You're not a medical doctor yet, but no. You were about to be a pilot.
Doc Redman [00:01:05]:
Yeah, I've been working on that.
Matt Every [00:01:07]:
Let's hear about that. How far away are you?
Doc Redman [00:01:09]:
I mean, I've gotten all the required training out of the way. I got to do them. Doing a written exam Friday and then just practicing for the test. I got 55 hours, maybe.
Matt Every [00:01:19]:
What made you want to do that?
Doc Redman [00:01:20]:
I just wanted to do bored. Something fun? Yeah, I was bored.
Scott Riley [00:01:23]:
John Peterson doing it, dude.
Doc Redman [00:01:26]:
I mean, I really don't know why. I'm tired of being in airports. That's obviously something we do all the time.
Matt Every [00:01:30]:
You're definitely not trying to copy John Peterson?
Doc Redman [00:01:34]:
I think he's a little bit for my time, but now shit. I mean, I yeah, MAV has his Morgan Hoffman. Obviously George McNeil talked to him a little bit.
Matt Every [00:01:48]:
Dude, George will fly anywhere.
Aron Price [00:01:50]:
Fuck.
Matt Every [00:01:51]:
Just make the stops.
Doc Redman [00:01:53]:
He said he just started flying a new plane, too.
Matt Every [00:01:56]:
Did he get it?
Doc Redman [00:01:57]:
Sounds pretty exciting.
Matt Every [00:01:58]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:01:58]:
So every time you change planes, you got to do it like you got to get new instrument rating and stuff.
Doc Redman [00:02:04]:
I mean, he's the master of the planes.
Matt Every [00:02:06]:
He flies in private planes every freaking week, this guy. Where are you doing? Where are you going next week? Craig?
Doc Redman [00:02:13]:
Yeah, at Craig. At Holiday Aviation. So it's just man and a wife. They have, like, lifetime flight instructors, which is rare because all the money is obviously going to the airlines. So they're good people and they have good flight instructors. So it's fun.
Scott Riley [00:02:28]:
I love it.
Aron Price [00:02:29]:
I am going on one next week.
Matt Every [00:02:30]:
Where are you going?
Aron Price [00:02:31]:
Just for two days? DC. Just playing this pro am and then playing Congressional.
Matt Every [00:02:35]:
What course? Pro am at Burning Tree Fairfax Country Club.
Aron Price [00:02:39]:
No, I wish, but we're staying at Congressional and playing there, which is cool, because I haven't played it since they redid it.
Matt Every [00:02:44]:
Oh, yeah.
Aron Price [00:02:44]:
But, yeah, I guess since the last part, I've done a few, but not none. Only one. Crystal Downs was the only one. We took a plane.
Matt Every [00:02:50]:
Yeah. This isn't about you, Doc.
Aron Price [00:02:54]:
Should be.
Matt Every [00:02:54]:
What's going on with your golf game? We're 150 something on the FedEx right now. Yeah, you're way too good for that.
Doc Redman [00:02:59]:
I know. It's coming along. I'm gaining more confidence. We were just talking about it. It's just the difference. Like, the self belief is so big, obviously massive, but in practice it's really good. So I think I'm just trying to gain that confidence and have it show in tournaments.
Matt Every [00:03:15]:
Yeah, it just takes one week, too.
Doc Redman [00:03:17]:
It does.
Matt Every [00:03:18]:
How many more weeks we got left?
Doc Redman [00:03:19]:
I think five. I'm not in Japan. That's a 70 man field. So I think then there's just five. It's Jackson. Vegas. Then there's Japan and then Cabo, Bermuda and RSM.
Matt Every [00:03:32]:
Yeah. You like Bermuda, don't you?
Doc Redman [00:03:35]:
Yeah, I've came in, played second. There second or third.
Aron Price [00:03:38]:
I feel like you just need to be in contention the back nine on Saturday. From there it takes over, but I don't think you can really produce on a Thursday or a Friday. But once you threw the first nine on Saturday, if you're in the top 1015, you don't have to worry from there. You get in the zone, you take over. But it's getting to that position.
Doc Redman [00:04:00]:
That always happens. Real organically, too. It's like you don't even realize that you're playing well and you just haven't fucked up. And then all of a sudden you're up there and you're like, oh, shit. Okay. It doesn't seem that great, but it just is.
Matt Every [00:04:10]:
It's hard to get there, though, man. It is like getting in contention is the hardest part.
Doc Redman [00:04:15]:
Then once you're there, you're dialed in, you're focused, and you're as confident as ever.
Matt Every [00:04:20]:
What's going on with Clemson football right now?
Doc Redman [00:04:25]:
Man, I don't know, Dabo.
Matt Every [00:04:26]:
Can he not do anything without Trevor Lawrence?
Doc Redman [00:04:28]:
No, I mean, I guess we're still running that same weak dump it off offense and running it up the middle even though we brought the TCU offensive coordinator. And I don't think we changed the offense at all, which is sad, because everyone's like, oh, this club knit guy must not be able to throw. He has a beautiful ball.
Matt Every [00:04:45]:
Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:04:46]:
And I think the wide receivers are not that good. And maybe the O line is struggling a little bit, too. But it's surprising, I mean, very surprising to do.
Matt Every [00:04:55]:
It feels like the drop do or die this week for your season really.
Doc Redman [00:04:59]:
Well, and I haven't watched Florida State, but I feel like every year everyone talks about how good Florida State is going to be.
Matt Every [00:05:05]:
Well, they're finally good, but apparently that's what they always say last week they.
Aron Price [00:05:11]:
Struggled, but apparently half the team was sick of it.
Matt Every [00:05:14]:
And they did, but they were also up 31 ten in that game. It was kind of a backdoor before, and then they blinked, and it was Boston College.
Scott Riley [00:05:23]:
That happens to so many good ACC teams. They fall asleep in that stadium, and next thing you know, you're in a battle. So who's your quarterbacks?
Doc Redman [00:05:31]:
Trevor your quarterback when you're Clemson? Yeah. So my first Taj boy, my first year was my freshman year was Deshaun Watson's. Last year, passed 100.
Scott Riley [00:05:41]:
Kelly Bryant.
Doc Redman [00:05:42]:
And then Kelly Bryant. Yeah, my sophomore year. And then I turned pro, but it was there my junior year, and that's when, like, halfway through the year, we.
Matt Every [00:05:50]:
Switched over to stayed you left school early, right?
Doc Redman [00:05:54]:
Yeah, I went to school for two years and then turned pro. It was, like, right after I won the Usam and had a bunch of exemptions and some guaranteed money from TaylorMade as a sponsor. So it just kind of felt like the right time that the opportunities were there. Like, you're playing well, then might as well play.
Aron Price [00:06:15]:
You on the US mission in, like, August or whatever.
Doc Redman [00:06:17]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:06:17]:
And you were about to go to school the next week, and you didn't go.
Doc Redman [00:06:21]:
Yeah, and then we left for, like, ten no more.
Scott Riley [00:06:24]:
Burned it down.
Doc Redman [00:06:25]:
Well, no, that was after my freshman year. I went to school the whole next year.
Aron Price [00:06:28]:
Oh, you did?
Matt Every [00:06:30]:
He played in the Masters, right?
Doc Redman [00:06:32]:
You got to stay amateurs.
Aron Price [00:06:33]:
Yeah.
Scott Riley [00:06:34]:
You played in all those you didn't turn pro?
Doc Redman [00:06:36]:
I didn't play the US. Open or the he turned pro before the yeah. Okay, so but then I qualified for the British Open, like, two years yeah.
Matt Every [00:06:45]:
From Detroit.
Doc Redman [00:06:46]:
Yeah, from I beat, I think, Sabo for the last spot in there.
Matt Every [00:06:51]:
That's great.
Doc Redman [00:06:51]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:06:52]:
But did you get your card that year right out of no.
Doc Redman [00:06:54]:
No, I didn't. It was the next I was that.
Aron Price [00:06:57]:
The same year as Morikawa. Matt Wolf.
Doc Redman [00:07:01]:
It may have been because we played the Walker Cup together. Not Wolf is younger than me, but college.
Aron Price [00:07:07]:
They all came out together, and those two got their card. Victor hovland didn't. He went back to Q School, and then I know you got it because you finished third in Detroit.
Matt Every [00:07:17]:
Have you guys seen those pics of Victor tender? Is that real?
Doc Redman [00:07:21]:
I haven't seen it.
Matt Every [00:07:22]:
A, it's going around like social media. Some chick aired out Victor's Tinder pics, and they're I mean, it's just him holding. It's pretty funny. I really doubt he needs to resort to that, but I don't know. You never know these days.
Scott Riley [00:07:40]:
What's your tender? Profile pick.
Matt Every [00:07:41]:
Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:07:42]:
What's my tender? I've got a girl for a while now, so none?
Matt Every [00:07:45]:
He locked down? Yeah, he locked down.
Doc Redman [00:07:47]:
And I don't have any trophies to play.
Scott Riley [00:07:49]:
I have no idea.
Matt Every [00:07:50]:
That's shocking to me, by the way. Isn't it crazy it's shocking to me that you amateur don't have trophies, to be honest. Yeah. First time I play with you. So impressed, dude. So impressed. Just aggressive. He likes to peel it left to right.
Matt Every [00:08:05]:
You did. At least I'm assuming you still I'm.
Doc Redman [00:08:07]:
Trying to get back to that. Yeah, I got a little off, but.
Matt Every [00:08:09]:
Just a hell of an iron player. And I feel like you're one of those guys that if it just any week, any course, I agree. If it's good, it's going to be good anywhere, right? Yeah, man. What the hell?
Doc Redman [00:08:23]:
I know. I guess I am. I'm only 20.
Matt Every [00:08:26]:
I know. That's shocking to me. I would buy stock in you right now.
Doc Redman [00:08:29]:
I think that's the greatest part about golf is you look at like I think Brian Harmon just won his first major at 37 or whatever. I mean, obviously he's been good forever, but you never know when it's going to click and you're going to go off. Lucas Glover just again wins the last two. You're like, shit. I mean, got to take care of.
Matt Every [00:08:44]:
Your body and keep at it. The 25 part, I think you fool a lot of people. Obviously you've been on tour for a little bit, so it's weird to hear that you're 25 but also kind of the way you handle yourself. You're pretty quiet guy. There's not a whole lot of look.
Aron Price [00:08:59]:
At me, look at me seeking attention.
Matt Every [00:09:01]:
Yeah. So maybe that has something to do with it.
Aron Price [00:09:04]:
Fourth year on tour, you got season.
Matt Every [00:09:07]:
Tickets to the Jags?
Doc Redman [00:09:08]:
No. Just because we're never around for but no, I mean, I I don't even know when the first game I would go.
Matt Every [00:09:14]:
Are you do you play any golf at Trevor in town?
Doc Redman [00:09:17]:
No, I haven't. I would love to. I know he goes out to the ending club a bunch and we talked at TBC last when I saw him. Yeah. Loves golf. I know. He might need some help. I heard his swing's not the best.
Matt Every [00:09:28]:
But he's huge, man.
Doc Redman [00:09:31]:
Oh, I know.
Scott Riley [00:09:31]:
He needs a swing.
Doc Redman [00:09:33]:
Yeah. That's tough.
Matt Every [00:09:33]:
Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:09:34]:
But I'd love to him and Christian.
Aron Price [00:09:36]:
Cook, I love it.
Matt Every [00:09:39]:
He goes out to Pablo all the time because right there where he lives. But I've seen his action. He hammers it. It's a big boy.
Scott Riley [00:09:47]:
How do we get Doc? How do we get that nickname?
Doc Redman [00:09:50]:
No. Yeah, it's my birth name. My parents I think there is the real story. It's in the Garfield comics. I think there's a character named Dockman. And somehow or another when I was coming up that was appealing to them and they just shortened it to Doc. And there you go. That's my real name on my birth certificate.
Scott Riley [00:10:12]:
Are they hippies?
Doc Redman [00:10:13]:
My mom a little bit, yeah.
Scott Riley [00:10:14]:
I like it.
Aron Price [00:10:15]:
I love short names. My kids don't have short names, but I wanted to give them like three or four letters.
Scott Riley [00:10:21]:
Just fucking boom, no chance.
Aron Price [00:10:23]:
Like benjamin typing out this whole thing. And if you ever become successful, these people with long names just call them Ben, end up with wrist injuries, names.
Doc Redman [00:10:32]:
For your kids, then short nicknames that you can call them real quick.
Aron Price [00:10:35]:
G and t very yeah. GIB and T. Who won today? Doc.
Matt Every [00:10:43]:
Doc did.
Scott Riley [00:10:44]:
Thanks, Doc.
Aron Price [00:10:45]:
Played steady.
Matt Every [00:10:46]:
Who is the third?
Doc Redman [00:10:48]:
Josh Saipel.
Matt Every [00:10:49]:
Josh Sapel.
Doc Redman [00:10:50]:
He's a member there.
Matt Every [00:10:50]:
Okay.
Aron Price [00:10:51]:
Josh was struggling from about 100 in.
Doc Redman [00:10:55]:
Yeah, I was trying to welcome to the club.
Aron Price [00:11:00]:
Josh smoked us when we played last time.
Doc Redman [00:11:02]:
Yeah, he's got a good game. They got it over there.
Aron Price [00:11:07]:
Yeah, he's played. And there's a few of these young guys have just stopped playing around here that are all good.
Matt Every [00:11:12]:
Zach Williamson, he's still caddying for you?
Doc Redman [00:11:14]:
Yeah, he is.
Matt Every [00:11:15]:
He's been on your bag pretty much.
Doc Redman [00:11:16]:
Since I got out on tour. Yeah, he has.
Matt Every [00:11:19]:
That's great.
Doc Redman [00:11:20]:
He's been a great caddy. And now, I mean, we just down so much that it's just easy.
Matt Every [00:11:28]:
You've probably had plenty of chances to fire him.
Doc Redman [00:11:30]:
Doesn't every week.
Matt Every [00:11:34]:
I got a great Zach Williamson story. I was playing the Nationwide Tour. We had a tournament in Chattanooga.
Aron Price [00:11:40]:
Square greens.
Matt Every [00:11:41]:
Yep. And I am just flying around this place. I'm like, six under through seven or eight.
Aron Price [00:11:46]:
You could go low. That was a fun track.
Matt Every [00:11:48]:
And we get on nine, and I asked him where the wind was coming out of or something like that, and it was a week where he was subbing in for my normal guy. And we're like, It's, this is fine. And I go, Zach, where you got the wind at? And he goes, absolutely. And I'm like, what? Are you just going to give me that? Is that like your stock answer for everything is Absolutely? I was like, no input from you the rest of the day.
Aron Price [00:12:18]:
It wasn't wrong.
Doc Redman [00:12:19]:
You were doing fine.
Matt Every [00:12:20]:
Absolutely. What a guy.
Aron Price [00:12:23]:
No comment. No one's ever been forward for saying no comment.
Scott Riley [00:12:27]:
So actuarial math. What in the wide world is that?
Doc Redman [00:12:31]:
I know. That's what I was studying in college.
Matt Every [00:12:33]:
Actual what actuarial?
Doc Redman [00:12:36]:
Yeah, just like financial math.
Matt Every [00:12:38]:
Okay.
Doc Redman [00:12:38]:
Yeah. I don't know. I really started liking math when I was in high school for whatever reason, and I was decent enough at it. Nothing compared to people who are good at it in college. And I just wanted to do something different. I felt like everyone did business, and that bullshit, so I wanted to try something new, and I was just getting into the really hard stuff, and it was getting tough, so it was nice to get out while I could.
Matt Every [00:13:00]:
That's so funny, dude. I feel like most people start bailing from math in high school. They're like, all right, once they added letters.
Doc Redman [00:13:07]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:13:08]:
Then it becomes I remember going to my counsel, whatever, not guidance counselor, but, like, academic advisor. And when you had to choose majors, I told her, whatever has the least amount of math I'll do. Went for seven semesters commercial recreation, keep it recreational.
Aron Price [00:13:26]:
I signed up for algebra all seven semesters I was there, I dropped it all six. And the last semester I only had to play past 6 hours to play NCAA. So I never went to the class.
Scott Riley [00:13:37]:
And you guys are giving input on the tour?
Aron Price [00:13:41]:
What was X Square CEOs over CMC?
Matt Every [00:13:47]:
Doc, what about let's talk about cars, you're into those too, right?
Aron Price [00:13:50]:
Yeah, always got a new one coming.
Doc Redman [00:13:52]:
I've got a new one coming. Yeah. I've got a Boxster GTS coming.
Matt Every [00:13:56]:
What's that?
Doc Redman [00:13:57]:
It's a Porsche convertible.
Matt Every [00:14:00]:
Like newer, older?
Doc Redman [00:14:01]:
Newer? Yeah, brand new. And then this one is the same engine as the base nine eleven s just in a little different body.
Matt Every [00:14:08]:
See bro, don't get married and don't have kids. You can do those things whenever you want.
Aron Price [00:14:13]:
We were talking about that.
Doc Redman [00:14:14]:
Were you talking about the expenses that having a family?
Aron Price [00:14:18]:
Something was like five grand. I was like, oh that's great if you're single.
Doc Redman [00:14:22]:
I was asking about that's like a.
Aron Price [00:14:23]:
Week, maybe ten days tops. Instead of burning like it's crazy. It just adds up and not expensive lifestyle. But yeah, if you're single you can continue to do that. And what do you got now? An Audi?
Doc Redman [00:14:33]:
Yeah, I've got the Rs.
Matt Every [00:14:35]:
Don't you have like some restored Jeep too?
Doc Redman [00:14:37]:
Yeah, I have it. A restored Land five Land Cruiser. That's an HJ 47. Yeah, it's really good. Diesel engine truck.
Aron Price [00:14:46]:
Is that gone off a sale?
Doc Redman [00:14:47]:
Yeah, I'm going to try and sell it. Yeah, I don't really know what it's worth.
Matt Every [00:14:50]:
Really.
Aron Price [00:14:50]:
Think you might money on that?
Doc Redman [00:14:52]:
I hope so.
Matt Every [00:14:52]:
I bet you will.
Doc Redman [00:14:53]:
I hope so.
Scott Riley [00:14:54]:
We can help you with that.
Doc Redman [00:14:55]:
So that'd be good. Yeah, I'm trying to get rid of that kind of before the Porsche comes because thought I really loved cars.
Matt Every [00:15:01]:
That thing on the beach side just kill it does.
Scott Riley [00:15:04]:
So it's not Porsche.
Doc Redman [00:15:06]:
No, but it probably is.
Aron Price [00:15:09]:
You don't plan to but if you.
Scott Riley [00:15:10]:
Do get don't call it a Porsche.
Aron Price [00:15:12]:
You might want that Land Cruiser back.
Doc Redman [00:15:16]:
I need pricey to start taking care of it for me. Add that to the list.
Matt Every [00:15:20]:
Yeah, he's the handler.
Doc Redman [00:15:21]:
He is.
Matt Every [00:15:21]:
He is the pontavidra handler.
Aron Price [00:15:23]:
I am no good with cars.
Matt Every [00:15:25]:
You can be his PGA tourist. Cam Smith.
Doc Redman [00:15:29]:
That'd be great.
Matt Every [00:15:30]:
We got a guy on the live.
Aron Price [00:15:31]:
And a guy on kind of have one each side.
Matt Every [00:15:33]:
Yeah, that's true. They're playing this week. But did you ever entertain going over thought it was don't lie to me dude. I know you got something.
Doc Redman [00:15:41]:
No, I mean I looked into it I think and I thought that was maybe a know would be cool at one time and maybe it's think, you know I've always wanted to win on tour to not have done.
Aron Price [00:15:54]:
That'S and very genuine.
Matt Every [00:15:57]:
Yeah, it is. Do you think? Like Cam Trungali never went on tour?
Doc Redman [00:16:00]:
Right.
Matt Every [00:16:01]:
But I guess now well, we still don't know what's happening with that, I guess.
Doc Redman [00:16:05]:
Right. And then at the time when everyone had been considering it, you kind of thought it was forever one way or the other. Right. And now it comes to seem like never forever. It's not going to be like that.
Aron Price [00:16:15]:
Never forever.
Matt Every [00:16:15]:
Never forever. That's right. Time heals. When are we going to get a decision on that, by the way?
Doc Redman [00:16:19]:
I think it has to be by the end of the year.
Matt Every [00:16:21]:
There's just so many moving targets with the Tour.
Aron Price [00:16:24]:
It sounds like 24 is going to be exactly the same. But I did hear I haven't been listening too much.
Scott Riley [00:16:29]:
It's gone quiet.
Aron Price [00:16:30]:
2025 is where it's going to sink up. Sounds like it really I just don't.
Scott Riley [00:16:34]:
Know if it's going to pass through DOJ.
Aron Price [00:16:37]:
Yeah, maybe not.
Doc Redman [00:16:38]:
Huge merger and I don't think it'll be it's interesting to see how much those live guys want to come back and what kind of commitment are we going to get from them to play PGA Tour events know? I guess maybe if there's enough money. But I don't think some of those guys aren't too know. They're happy what they're doing, I think.
Matt Every [00:16:58]:
Dude, everyone I've talked to out there, like Harold, they love it.
Aron Price [00:17:03]:
That's what people don't understand. It's like junior tournaments. I went, I caddied for one and everyone was staying at roughly the same hotel. You tee off at once. Everyone's at breakfast together, workout breakfast. You feel like you're a kid.
Matt Every [00:17:16]:
I talked to we were down at the Price and I were down at the Grove last week for a couple of days and we saw Brooks. We drove Dustin. That's funny. We saw Keegan. Keegan took the high road too. Feel bad for that guy. What a sweetheart he is. And they're all members there, dude.
Matt Every [00:17:41]:
All those like Justin and Ricky. The boys Club's all members there. And Keegan was the OD man out.
Aron Price [00:17:47]:
That was tough. But I did hear, and I don't like saying stuff when we know these people, but I don't know this guy. But I did hear it basically came down to one person. Like Sheffler wanted to play with Burns. And yeah, he's the world number one.
Matt Every [00:18:00]:
So you think JT was on that team before Burns?
Aron Price [00:18:04]:
I do, 100%. And I think now that with its six. Well, I think it always was, but I think more than records had the year they've had. I fucking hate it comes down to the six that already think. I think Zach stays out of it a lot. I don't know how it is on Europe. What about Europe? Adrian Moronc didn't get picked and he won on that course and he finished second the year before that's such a rough. And he also won the Australian Open, I think.
Matt Every [00:18:32]:
No captain's picks also fixes a lot of the Tour's problems. I think you go, no captain's picks. You make these fuckers play in events to get points. If you want to be on the Ryder Cup, you got to finish in the top twelve. Sit there with your arms crossed. I'm not fucking wrong on this.
Aron Price [00:18:46]:
You got to leave a couple, whether it's two, four, six couple for the but someone who gets injured, there's got.
Doc Redman [00:18:52]:
To be I mean, I was you.
Aron Price [00:18:55]:
Need the superstars there. And I'm not saying like JT, but what happens with Tiger? One has a sore knee or something has to sit out six months.
Matt Every [00:19:03]:
You said Tiger's and literally everyone just.
Scott Riley [00:19:06]:
Make those guys vice captains. The guys that didn't make the team. Okay, Keegan, you get an invite.
Matt Every [00:19:10]:
That's what would have happened if Justin didn't make the team. He would have been a vice president.
Aron Price [00:19:14]:
I think he's a justified pick. I think he's going to win tons.
Matt Every [00:19:16]:
Of points, maybe in Italy, but that's bullshit. If you want to do that, go off. Look at Dustin Johnson's Ryder Cup record. Why didn't he get picked? Did you see what he's going off that? No, he probably don't give a crap.
Doc Redman [00:19:27]:
Well, he said if he had, he felt like he'd been playing well enough to be picked or something. But since he played live where it was like the most random he is the best.
Matt Every [00:19:36]:
We were down there.
Aron Price [00:19:37]:
He can't remember his record.
Doc Redman [00:19:38]:
No, it felt like I've been playing.
Matt Every [00:19:41]:
We were down there last week and I was just catching up with him a little. What you up to? He's like, not much, man. He goes, you know, if I putt good, I win, if I don't, I finish freaking great.
Scott Riley [00:19:52]:
Miss that guy.
Doc Redman [00:19:53]:
And I was talking to Zach Johnson last week and he know this, whatever course they're playing for, the Ryder Cup is going to be it's long, it's thick, hilly. I said, man, what a great place for Lucas Glover. The guy's not going to miss a fairway, he's not going to miss a green. You throw him in best ball with someone else and go, hey, this guy's going to make a lot of pars.
Matt Every [00:20:13]:
You want to overthink this a little too? Denny McCarthy would have been a hell of a pick there, dude. Steady, steady. Eddie, that guy's going to you watch. Brian Harmon might be the star of this rider.
Doc Redman [00:20:25]:
Oh, 100%. He's going to be fired up.
Scott Riley [00:20:27]:
What a dog.
Matt Every [00:20:29]:
Denny reminds me a ton of him. Dude, a ton.
Aron Price [00:20:33]:
But there's only twelve guys on there. You can't not pick.
Matt Every [00:20:37]:
I know. You got to pick four automatically. They get in for the next four Ryder Cups no matter what. There's six picks. Why don't we just give Justin Thomas a spot for the next four Ryder Cups?
Aron Price [00:20:49]:
No, he played it right last week. I'm not on JT's bandwagon. I just think that he should have got picked. There would only be one change in mind. But if Jordan speed.
Matt Every [00:20:58]:
Yeah. If Jordan Speith had finished what Jordan finished FedEx Cup this year, I have no idea. But better than 71.
Aron Price [00:21:06]:
Right.
Scott Riley [00:21:06]:
But if he had just an awful year.
Matt Every [00:21:08]:
Yeah. Say if Jordan didn't qualify for the playoffs this year, would you make the same argument for him as Justin?
Scott Riley [00:21:15]:
I don't think you get Ricky on that team.
Aron Price [00:21:17]:
How's his record in the Rotter cut? I don't know. I'd have to look it into.
Scott Riley [00:21:22]:
He did play well this year, so we can't hypothesize.
Doc Redman [00:21:30]:
It just seems like if you finish the season strong again maybe I'm not vouching for Lucas, but I'm just in general, if you could imagine, man, you just won two of the last tournaments heading right into the picks. You go, why wouldn't you want I.
Matt Every [00:21:41]:
Wonder how close Lucas was to making that team.
Doc Redman [00:21:45]:
I mean, you can say this, I know they use stats, but I mean, it seems like recent form would be a lot. Why wouldn't you want the guy?
Matt Every [00:21:50]:
I can't stand that stats.
Aron Price [00:21:52]:
There is like a four way gap or something.
Scott Riley [00:21:54]:
I don't like the gap. The gap is like, okay, this is like cools off and then has no anything could happen. You want to roll that momentum.
Aron Price [00:22:01]:
Right. And that was my justification for taking Justin Thomas. He's going to find and match plays different. You play four ball different, you play four different. So that's always like it's not, oh, he's been playing shit at individual. Okay, maybe it may win the first four points and doesn't win European.
Doc Redman [00:22:18]:
The whole European team played last week at the BMW and our guys are kind of huh. So that'll be Max played. That's so typical Max and Justin.
Scott Riley [00:22:27]:
So typical of Europe to just bond right before it. And our guys are out there trying to find their mean.
Aron Price [00:22:34]:
It was their flagship event one was it Wentworth?
Matt Every [00:22:36]:
Yeah, it was Wentworth. And it probably made a little more sense. Tour was in Napa last week. Did you play?
Doc Redman [00:22:42]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:22:42]:
Any good?
Doc Redman [00:22:43]:
No, I mean, even par with it was lots of good, lots of birdies, lots of bogeys.
Matt Every [00:22:50]:
Did you sign up for any wine club?
Doc Redman [00:22:52]:
No, I didn't, thankfully last week, but in the past I have.
Matt Every [00:22:55]:
They get you so good out.
Doc Redman [00:22:56]:
They do. Delicious.
Matt Every [00:22:58]:
Next thing you know you got a freaking packages showing up every three months to the doorstep.
Aron Price [00:23:02]:
They've got Jonas a couple of times out there, been at his house and.
Matt Every [00:23:06]:
Just like a couple I had a day out there once. It was myself, GW's Caddy and then Steve Marino and Will McKinsey. And we drank wine from two to two. It was like a two day.
Doc Redman [00:23:19]:
Wow.
Matt Every [00:23:19]:
It was awful, dude. The next day everyone stays around the course there at those little villas. And the next day we went into this was Tuesday, Wednesday. We go in and I like, see Willie Mac in there. And it was an it was there is something. It was a two day hangover.
Aron Price [00:23:38]:
Wine hangovers and headaches.
Doc Redman [00:23:40]:
Wow.
Aron Price [00:23:42]:
The nausea part, sure, sometimes you don't get that with other stuff, but the headache on a wine, wow. Especially if you start drinking wine earlier because normally maybe personally, but you're drinking wine at night so it's dark. If you're getting hammered on wine in the daytime, you think you're on Mars.
Matt Every [00:23:58]:
Like three of your best friends just having a time.
Aron Price [00:24:01]:
It's 06:00 p.m.. It's still light. So you've been drinking wine for 4 hours. You feel like you're on a different planet. It's so weird. The wine buz. It's crazy.
Matt Every [00:24:08]:
Were you there? Was it your rookie year when the con on fire?
Doc Redman [00:24:11]:
No, that was the year before that. I was there, so I never witnessed that. But that whole place is like I mean, the driest place ever. And I think two years ago was when we had all that smoke from the fires nearby. It looked apocalyptic. That was crazy.
Matt Every [00:24:25]:
Some of those shots on the range.
Doc Redman [00:24:26]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:24:27]:
Was the fire was that when Steve Yonderwood got hit?
Matt Every [00:24:33]:
It might have been. I remember that year going to just after a practice or something, same kind of deal, going with some buddies to a place and one of them was ripping a SIG in the backseat of the car and he was getting ready to throw it out. And we're like, dude, this whole place will catch on fire if you throw that out. And then literally like four days later, the whole place did catch on fire from that.
Aron Price [00:24:55]:
Big deal.
Scott Riley [00:24:56]:
Did he throw the Cig out?
Aron Price [00:24:57]:
No.
Matt Every [00:24:57]:
Okay.
Doc Redman [00:24:58]:
I think they lost like a TV production truck. I think I remember here because they.
Matt Every [00:25:03]:
Couldn'T get it in the nick of time.
Doc Redman [00:25:04]:
It was literally I think the fire had the place an hour after play finished on there.
Matt Every [00:25:09]:
So it goes napa. There's a week off.
Doc Redman [00:25:12]:
No tournament here. What's next week? Wait.
Matt Every [00:25:15]:
Ryder cup. And then Jackson.
Doc Redman [00:25:17]:
Yes.
Matt Every [00:25:18]:
Okay, that's a little weird.
Aron Price [00:25:20]:
So they had two weeks off or one week off in.
Doc Redman [00:25:24]:
Before Napa?
Aron Price [00:25:26]:
After the Tour championship.
Doc Redman [00:25:28]:
I think there was, I don't know, one or two weeks off. I didn't even stop following.
Aron Price [00:25:33]:
Weird. They have a week off this week? Yeah, Napa should be this week.
Doc Redman [00:25:37]:
I mean, they're usually on the program of an event every week, so maybe it's nice to have one week off.
Aron Price [00:25:43]:
But it would have been better to know more in a row.
Doc Redman [00:25:46]:
Right?
Aron Price [00:25:46]:
So I'm saying, just trying to look out for you guys.
Doc Redman [00:25:49]:
We should call Jay and hand the phone to Price. He has all the answers.
Aron Price [00:25:53]:
Is there a spot on the board for guys who don't have any status?
Matt Every [00:25:59]:
What a joke. That all is. Anyways, the pack and the board, remember when they used to vote for those things?
Aron Price [00:26:05]:
Ever used to ask for the Count. I want to see the Count.
Matt Every [00:26:07]:
Well, it's the same fucking guy that gets. Elected. It's the same guy in general. They're all quiet.
Scott Riley [00:26:14]:
Same person?
Matt Every [00:26:15]:
Yes. And there's categories that you pick select out of. So it'd be like 20 names here and you can select two and then over here and select two. And it's like the guys that are getting picked. It's like nobody's voting for those guys.
Aron Price [00:26:28]:
Dude.
Matt Every [00:26:28]:
There's no way. There's no way anyone who gives a crap isn't going to vote for to represent them.
Aron Price [00:26:36]:
He wanted the recant. They wouldn't do it.
Matt Every [00:26:38]:
They wouldn't do it.
Aron Price [00:26:40]:
They don't release the poll.
Matt Every [00:26:43]:
They don't release it.
Scott Riley [00:26:44]:
Are there any foreign players on that?
Matt Every [00:26:46]:
Probably. Yeah, I'm sure there are.
Scott Riley [00:26:48]:
So they want diversity on there.
Matt Every [00:26:50]:
They want everything. It's not that. It's just they don't want guys who are going to like a Tom Gillis or Vocal and aren't taking any shit and call stuff out.
Scott Riley [00:27:01]:
Company guy.
Matt Every [00:27:03]:
They don't want that.
Aron Price [00:27:04]:
No union members.
Doc Redman [00:27:06]:
What did you think about Tiger joining the board kind of quickly? That was kind of out of the blue in my eyes with no explanation. And we were just supposed to say, oh, that's a great thing. I don't know what angle Tiger has in all this. I think that's interesting, especially because we're probably not going to see him play, so he's not helping us out that way.
Aron Price [00:27:24]:
That goes back to your board thing. You tell me every kid on Tour, first year when you do vote for, you tell me they're not picking Tiger. He was never on the board.
Matt Every [00:27:32]:
Well, can you decline it theory?
Aron Price [00:27:34]:
Can you? Maybe.
Matt Every [00:27:36]:
I think you can fit it into.
Scott Riley [00:27:38]:
His schedule now, I guess. Plus the name just carries so much weight.
Matt Every [00:27:43]:
I don't know what I think about that. It was definitely a bit of a PR stunt, right? Like save some he's going to on our side now, right?
Doc Redman [00:27:52]:
Which I mean, if he actually is on our side on every golf player's side, I would say that's a different side then great.
Matt Every [00:28:00]:
But it's like his legacy is at stake too here. I mean, if the Tour just goes away.
Aron Price [00:28:08]:
I don't think that the Tour is not going away. There's no way.
Matt Every [00:28:10]:
No, I know now it's not.
Aron Price [00:28:12]:
They're not into operations. The tour is the operation. It's 60 whoever 70 years old, they want to seems like put the money in, you run it now. Who makes the decisions? Don't know. But the Tour is going to. I don't think you'll see the sad of yours.
Doc Redman [00:28:28]:
I don't know, but it'll be interesting.
Aron Price [00:28:30]:
To see associated and they want a thing to go around the world and I don't know, they don't want to run things.
Scott Riley [00:28:37]:
Did you get a live offer?
Doc Redman [00:28:38]:
No, I didn't.
Matt Every [00:28:41]:
If you were to be on a live team, which one would you want to be on?
Doc Redman [00:28:44]:
Which one would that majestics, I guess. I don't even know who's on the Majestics.
Matt Every [00:28:49]:
Is that Ian poulter's team?
Scott Riley [00:28:50]:
Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:28:51]:
I don't know who I would make maybe try and get Harold's team.
Matt Every [00:29:00]:
Good time and who else?
Doc Redman [00:29:02]:
I don't know. Maybe like ogletree or something. He just popped in.
Scott Riley [00:29:07]:
I think he's a ranger.
Aron Price [00:29:09]:
No. Is it Petey? You're on crusher. Yeah, I think so.
Doc Redman [00:29:13]:
Yes.
Matt Every [00:29:13]:
That's right.
Aron Price [00:29:15]:
He changed on the he's on the Aces.
Matt Every [00:29:18]:
He's on the four aces.
Aron Price [00:29:20]:
I don't know.
Doc Redman [00:29:21]:
Brooks traded him, I think, for someone.
Aron Price [00:29:23]:
Then they see more of that going on.
Matt Every [00:29:25]:
Well, Brooks and Wolf. So now Brooks and Matt Wolf are good.
Doc Redman [00:29:28]:
Oh, yeah. He traded for Matt Wolf, I think.
Matt Every [00:29:30]:
No, they're still on the same team.
Doc Redman [00:29:32]:
That's what I'm saying. I think he traded Uline for Matt Wolf. How crazy is that?
Scott Riley [00:29:37]:
Is that a fair?
Aron Price [00:29:39]:
It's well, Matt Wolf's now come out and said something like that was probably the best thing to have to me. And we said it was the best thing.
Matt Every [00:29:46]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:29:47]:
Going.
Matt Every [00:29:49]:
Sometimes you get a little soft. You need a little kick in the butt, dude. Brooks is a bro. I mean, he is his media persona.
Scott Riley [00:29:59]:
It makes him misunderstood.
Matt Every [00:30:01]:
I think so big time. Every time I've talked to that guy, I feel like it's genuine.
Aron Price [00:30:07]:
He was cool with the griff.
Matt Every [00:30:08]:
He's a bro.
Aron Price [00:30:08]:
Yeah.
Scott Riley [00:30:08]:
I'm not comparing him to Tiger, but Tiger's media persona is way different than how he is in the locker room. He's not doing himself any favor saying he's not practicing when he's practicing. Come on.
Aron Price [00:30:21]:
But I would say that I don't know Brooks and he keeps earning points in my book. But he just wants to be left alone.
Matt Every [00:30:26]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:30:28]:
Just leave me alone.
Matt Every [00:30:30]:
Respect.
Aron Price [00:30:31]:
Yeah, it's good.
Scott Riley [00:30:32]:
Leave me alone.
Aron Price [00:30:34]:
But it'll be interesting to see who he's paired with and the Rider Cup and stuff like that. Not interesting, but I don't think it'll be hard to he's the one, and apparently all six were like, boom, he's on. So that's cool. But it'll be just also the crowd. Like other crowd. He's the only one from the live in the whole event.
Matt Every [00:30:52]:
Right.
Aron Price [00:30:52]:
That part will be interesting. He doesn't give a flying shit if someone there doesn't care. It's him. On how people are going to judge him. But I'll just be interesting to see as a fan.
Matt Every [00:31:02]:
Was there anyone on the Europe team that potentially could have made the Europe team off of Liv?
Aron Price [00:31:07]:
I don't think any of them had played that great.
Matt Every [00:31:09]:
Right.
Aron Price [00:31:10]:
No. Like Westwood and and unless you're picking.
Matt Every [00:31:14]:
Know, nostalgia or something, that's an old which we're not far from doing that on our team.
Doc Redman [00:31:22]:
By the way, is the President's Cup going to allow live players?
Scott Riley [00:31:26]:
Do you think they should qualify?
Matt Every [00:31:28]:
Is President's cup PG of America.
Doc Redman [00:31:30]:
Oh, no.
Aron Price [00:31:30]:
It's PJ, too. They won't. Well, now they will. They didn't last year.
Doc Redman [00:31:34]:
Right. They didn't last year.
Aron Price [00:31:36]:
Whereas the Ryder Cups owned by the.
Matt Every [00:31:40]:
Right now, all that between Liv and the Tour. Is there's a verbal agreement? Yeah. Does that mean the live guys can practice at TBC now.
Aron Price [00:31:48]:
Not yet, but that's what I was going to go into. I think the thing will get ignited.
Scott Riley [00:31:53]:
Cam get his parking spot back.
Aron Price [00:31:54]:
Well, in March next year, people are going to it's sort of lost at the moment because Ryder Cup, but when it gets close to TBC, people you guys have agreed to work together. People especially people in Jacksonville. Well, why can't Cam Smith play the players? He lives here. He won two years ago, never got to defend. So I think that that will come up at some point. And should he? I got no idea. Absolutely no comment.
Scott Riley [00:32:15]:
I mean, if he's exempt in major and you're calling this a major, why aren't you exempting him into mental pretzel?
Aron Price [00:32:22]:
Right, but then you can't do for one what you can do. You can well, no, you can't. You should be able to hand pick.
Doc Redman [00:32:27]:
Absolutely.
Matt Every [00:32:27]:
You can.
Aron Price [00:32:28]:
Yes.
Matt Every [00:32:29]:
I thought they should have done that for the Masters dude this year with Liv that would have sent such handpicked them. You know what? You guys that have been quiet, dustin Brooks, come on back. The rest of you that have been loud and whiny, imagine Ridley said that.
Aron Price [00:32:42]:
We'Ve only got five spots for the live guys and these are the five.
Matt Every [00:32:45]:
That'd be all time.
Doc Redman [00:32:47]:
Phil's really kind of gone downhill. I just saw another thing that he said he's not betting on football this fall or something.
Matt Every [00:32:53]:
Yeah, I saw that. I actually thought it was pretty genuine.
Scott Riley [00:32:56]:
He's just given picks now statement.
Matt Every [00:32:58]:
But I think they left out the last part in that statement where if that Panthers lines over three, however I'm.
Aron Price [00:33:08]:
Hammering it, it's only if I say something really obscure.
Scott Riley [00:33:12]:
I mean, I wonder what led him to finally get to that point. I mean, Lanny Watkins came out and just ripped him for being a gambler. And it feels I'm not saying Lanny pushed him into this, but he'd been dogged for the way he treated people in the PGA Tour, not for his gambling.
Aron Price [00:33:31]:
Gambling thing is personal. I don't give a flying shit if someone never gambles or gambles their freaking I don't think it's smart, but I don't care.
Doc Redman [00:33:38]:
Same.
Matt Every [00:33:38]:
But I like to gamble, too.
Aron Price [00:33:43]:
Really?
Matt Every [00:33:43]:
This is not on the same level, but I can relate to what he said where he wasn't present. Like if you're sitting around a Sunday afternoon, nothing's going on. And from one to four, there's eight football games on and you got action. You're going to be tuned out. Yes. You're tuned into the TV, but tuned out with everybody else in your life.
Doc Redman [00:34:04]:
Sure.
Matt Every [00:34:04]:
And I could see how years and years and years of that add up. And he probably has a ton of guilt from it. I'm sure he does.
Doc Redman [00:34:12]:
How interesting now that maybe the two best golfers of our generation, tiger and Phil, had pretty serious addictions.
Matt Every [00:34:19]:
Okay, well, listen, I have a theory on this.
Aron Price [00:34:21]:
If you are elite, you need an addiction.
Matt Every [00:34:23]:
You do.
Scott Riley [00:34:24]:
It's a personality trait.
Matt Every [00:34:25]:
Doc, that might be one of your problems, bro.
Aron Price [00:34:27]:
Yeah, you're too.
Matt Every [00:34:30]:
Are. If you are elite, and I mean like top five in the world at anything, at anything, you're tormented. Something's fucking wrong with you. You can't be a normal person and be that special.
Scott Riley [00:34:42]:
There's only five of you around.
Matt Every [00:34:44]:
It doesn't work. Yeah, it just doesn't exist, dude. Whether it's the psycho in you that practices all day, that's not normal, but stuff like that.
Aron Price [00:34:58]:
Clearly the man is tormented. He thinks if he takes two days off, he's going to lose it. Tom Brady. I always thought this. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, they're like savants.
Matt Every [00:35:06]:
They feel like they take a day off.
Aron Price [00:35:08]:
Yeah, but you heard that come out with Tom Brady's personal life couldn't rest. Just got to keep looking at film. I think they're enjoying it. Maybe Andrew Lark didn't enjoy it. Right. So you finish. We're all got very different fingerprints, but they are tormented and that's what makes them great.
Matt Every [00:35:25]:
Yeah, I just think you got to have something wrong with you and then use it in the right way for it to benefit you in the sport you play.
Doc Redman [00:35:33]:
Right.
Matt Every [00:35:34]:
And if you are a narcissist or whatever, you know what? If you use it the right way, it might help you out. It might hurt you in other areas for sure, but it might help you out in your profession.
Scott Riley [00:35:47]:
Did you play any other sports growing up?
Doc Redman [00:35:49]:
Not too much. I played like basketball till middle school.
Scott Riley [00:35:52]:
So you're like a new breed of golfer that just committed to golf at an early age?
Matt Every [00:35:57]:
Yeah, but he's not answer for you. But I've played with the new breeds. Dude, this guy is not new breed.
Doc Redman [00:36:03]:
I was going to say. I feel like I never looking back at when I grew up. I mean, it was certainly serious, but I don't remember it being like everything. Like maybe I feel like some kids are now, but at an early age. I just loved going out hitting balls with my dad. That was fun. And then when I got to be like a freshman in high school, maybe 8th grade, I found some buddies at the course we played at and we just hung out and played golf. I felt like that was just the fun thing.
Doc Redman [00:36:29]:
That was our addiction.
Scott Riley [00:36:30]:
So you weren't being shipped around a.
Doc Redman [00:36:32]:
Different no, I think it's more addiction.
Aron Price [00:36:34]:
To competition than being a student of the game.
Matt Every [00:36:37]:
And when I hear new breed too, I think of a robot track man. I know he has a track man, but if you watch Doc swing, I don't want to say homemade, because that would be an insult. He's pure as shit. But you don't look at it and be like, that guy went to the Ledbetter or whatever academy and hits up on everything exactly can't fly to Wedge.
Doc Redman [00:37:01]:
Right.
Matt Every [00:37:01]:
That's not what I see when I play with him.
Doc Redman [00:37:04]:
So I guess, yeah, I have been playing golf for a long time and focusing on a while, but it never really seemed like I didn't start taking it crazy seriously until maybe high school. And then I was really practicing, and it was like, okay, I see where this is going. Potentially, if I want it to go that way.
Scott Riley [00:37:19]:
Goldman's got some game.
Doc Redman [00:37:21]:
He did, yeah. He doesn't play anymore, but he was down to, like, a scratch, maybe a plus golfer at one time playing at Prestonwood Country Club, where they have in Cary. They have a senior event there. So yeah, he drove me around to a ton of events, and kind of after I committed to college, which was early, like, my sophomore year of high school, then I just started playing local amateur events, like, at that time, the North Carolina Amateur. Carolina's Amateur. That stuff was top level, and I think that helped me a lot, playing against older, better players. I was always getting my butt kicked and getting better, which was huge.
Aron Price [00:38:00]:
That's my theory on not being too good, too young, because you're the best. You're the best. Then when everyone catches up, it's better to be always chasing, and you're at.
Matt Every [00:38:08]:
A good age to handle that well.
Doc Redman [00:38:10]:
And I think that's more like, as well, the professional golf, too. I mean, if you're winning everything, like, as a junior, that's unrealistic. Right? I mean, you kind of want to.
Matt Every [00:38:18]:
Are you working with Hamilton? Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:38:20]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:38:20]:
And you win twice a year. You're a hall of famer. These kids win every college event they go into. I think it just doesn't set you up right. Like, look, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods. There's plenty of guys who continue to go all through, but for every one of them, there's a million, 50 that weren't even playing golf at 16 because everyone caught them. They started losing. Then you got to grind.
Aron Price [00:38:40]:
You've got to be obsessed with improvement. Not really winning a trophy in golf, which is different from other sports.
Matt Every [00:38:46]:
Can you walk me? How did your relationship start? With dynamite.
Doc Redman [00:38:53]:
Dan with dynamite? Yeah. That's hilarious.
Aron Price [00:38:56]:
You're just telling me about him.
Doc Redman [00:38:57]:
Yeah, I met him. He didn't know who he was.
Matt Every [00:38:59]:
Dynamite's caddy on tour. He also runs a gambling does?
Doc Redman [00:39:03]:
Yep. Has a handicap.
Matt Every [00:39:05]:
Handicapping.
Doc Redman [00:39:06]:
He's a great dude. He lives up in Lowell, Mass. He's a member at Old Chatham, where I caddied at when I was in high school a little bit. It's in Durham, North Carolina.
Aron Price [00:39:15]:
It's on the list.
Matt Every [00:39:16]:
And he's a member.
Doc Redman [00:39:17]:
He's a member there. He does some work in North Carolina, and I kind of met him. He was playing with Grayson a bunch when Grayson was younger, hanging out there.
Matt Every [00:39:24]:
Grayson Murray. Wow. What a role.
Doc Redman [00:39:25]:
I know. Back to yeah. And then I started caddying for Dean a little bit and I asked him to caddy for me. And some events in the US. Am. When we won.
Matt Every [00:39:36]:
So he was on the bag at the Usam.
Doc Redman [00:39:38]:
Yeah. Then I think that kind of started the wheels rolling for him, like, Man, I want to do this. And then eventually he got the call from Rob Oppenheim to caddy for him for a while.
Aron Price [00:39:48]:
He's a good man. You won the USA at Riviera?
Doc Redman [00:39:51]:
Riviera, yeah.
Matt Every [00:39:54]:
They need to have a major there.
Scott Riley [00:39:57]:
Are they having PGA there?
Doc Redman [00:39:59]:
I think they're thinking about it. Yeah.
Aron Price [00:40:00]:
They had one there at 1995. Know who won?
Scott Riley [00:40:03]:
Steve Elkington.
Aron Price [00:40:04]:
That's right. Beat Monty. Beat Monty.
Scott Riley [00:40:06]:
I just watched. I think they put that on like a greatest round.
Aron Price [00:40:09]:
See how recently the screens were so spiked up? I really probably from Steve Elkington.
Scott Riley [00:40:15]:
They should have capped golf technology right then and there.
Aron Price [00:40:18]:
It was pretty good. It was really yeah, they had to hit like what were they hitting to? 18, like a fair bit.
Matt Every [00:40:22]:
Not were there any wasn't brass. No, they're hitting long irons.
Aron Price [00:40:25]:
Four or five irons. Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:40:26]:
Now you can have wedge.
Matt Every [00:40:27]:
People have wedges one year. It was a big playoff. I think the weather was bad, too. But Alan B won it. He hit a fairway wood out of the left rough.
Aron Price [00:40:38]:
It's like a four or five man playoff.
Matt Every [00:40:40]:
Yeah. And it was one of those damp, like, cold days there. And pulled his tee shot, no roll into the hill and then hit a fairway wood to that back left pin. Like 4ft gosh.
Aron Price [00:40:50]:
Adam Scott won a 36 Olivant there one year. I remember.
Doc Redman [00:40:53]:
Really?
Aron Price [00:40:54]:
Didn't get counted. They got the coin, but, man, Aussie.
Scott Riley [00:40:57]:
Flags all over that.
Aron Price [00:40:59]:
Riviera is fairly similar, like grass and shit to Sydney. So they do have I had a.
Matt Every [00:41:04]:
Look to win there one year. I hadn't won yet. And my home course growing up in Daytona Beach was called Riviera Country Club. And I'm on that back nine, and I'm right there. I'm like two or three back playing obviously playing great. And on 16, the par three, little tiny green.
Doc Redman [00:41:23]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:41:23]:
I just painted the stick with this little peeler into there, right over the pin, about 6ft, right behind the hole. And those greens are so tricky there, and I couldn't tell what it was going to do. And I guessed left edge, and it went left. I missed it by that far to the left, and then 18. I painted one with, like, an eight iron about this far behind the hole and then missed that. It was a bummer. But that's 16, fourth or fifth, that's.
Aron Price [00:41:49]:
A gem of a hole.
Doc Redman [00:41:50]:
That is a great hole.
Matt Every [00:41:51]:
That's my favorite course on Tour. It's not even close.
Doc Redman [00:41:53]:
I agree. I think ten has gotten a little severe. If they soften that green a little bit see, I don't want them to.
Matt Every [00:42:00]:
Soften it because I'm scared they're going to do it too. Much?
Aron Price [00:42:02]:
Yeah, like eleven at Timaquana?
Doc Redman [00:42:05]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:42:08]:
Ten.
Matt Every [00:42:08]:
It is what it is. It's damn near miniature golf.
Scott Riley [00:42:12]:
Did you rip driver on eleven to the left side on eleven hybrid?
Doc Redman [00:42:18]:
Yeah.
Scott Riley [00:42:18]:
That's like there's so much run out over there now.
Aron Price [00:42:21]:
I know Doc made a three there.
Doc Redman [00:42:23]:
I did make a three.
Scott Riley [00:42:24]:
Smart. Smart play.
Doc Redman [00:42:25]:
Then that's the way to play it.
Matt Every [00:42:26]:
How many hybrids you got in your bag these days?
Doc Redman [00:42:28]:
Just one hybrid. It's about a 20 degree.
Matt Every [00:42:30]:
It's one bitch stick.
Doc Redman [00:42:31]:
I mean yeah, but how dumb do you have to be to play, like, a three?
Matt Every [00:42:34]:
I 100% get off the ground joke.
Aron Price [00:42:37]:
He hates them, but I hate hybrids. I have one.
Matt Every [00:42:41]:
It's a joke. The USGA, what were they doing letting those into our game?
Doc Redman [00:42:47]:
Those come out great out of the rough, too. If you can chop down on one.
Matt Every [00:42:50]:
Of those, it's a cheat code.
Aron Price [00:42:52]:
I don't know why I can remember this, but Greg Bowden, I remember playing him one day. He wasn't driving it well, and he just kept hitting this hybrid out of the rough to like 10ft. I'm like with a three iron, you would be hitting it again out of the rough?
Doc Redman [00:43:04]:
Yes.
Aron Price [00:43:04]:
From like 8ft in front of you.
Matt Every [00:43:05]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:43:07]:
I had a question. So you committed early to Clemson. Is that because you love Clemson?
Doc Redman [00:43:11]:
Was there any no, I think it.
Aron Price [00:43:13]:
Was just Larry Penley.
Matt Every [00:43:14]:
Larry Penley?
Doc Redman [00:43:15]:
Yeah, Larry Penley. And he had seen so many great players, in my opinion, whether it be Lucas and Jonathan and all the great teams back there. Yeah, they were a lot of guys.
Aron Price [00:43:26]:
Greg Jones, they were the best team when I played. They played the same Jack Ferguson, he never went on to play.
Matt Every [00:43:31]:
Matt Hendrix, Greg Jones, DJ Trahan. All those guys. Dude, I remember all.
Doc Redman [00:43:36]:
Yeah. So I just thought that experience was like, what I was looking for, and I thought that would bring me to the next level. And Jonathan's brother Jordan, who's now the head coach there, we were really close, and he helped me a ton, was just I think it was the perfect match.
Matt Every [00:43:51]:
Was he like the coach in waiting?
Doc Redman [00:43:52]:
Pretty much, yeah, he was. Yeah. Because Larry was there so long and kind of had a few guys, me and Turk Pettit as well, who we wanted to see.
Matt Every [00:44:00]:
Turk Pettit? Is he on the live?
Doc Redman [00:44:03]:
He was, and like, he's got shuffled off.
Aron Price [00:44:05]:
Well, now they're on the Asian tour.
Doc Redman [00:44:08]:
He won the Colorado Open this year.
Aron Price [00:44:10]:
Though, I saw that 100 grand, baby.
Doc Redman [00:44:12]:
So that's pretty good.
Matt Every [00:44:12]:
Big pat hamill's course.
Aron Price [00:44:14]:
I think Pat might even put that.
Matt Every [00:44:16]:
Put the 100 grand up himself. He probably did.
Aron Price [00:44:18]:
Pat's the man, I'll tell you what.
Matt Every [00:44:20]:
Man, for a kid. So, Turks, what your age?
Doc Redman [00:44:22]:
He's like two years younger than me.
Matt Every [00:44:24]:
He's got to be a freaking blast traveling.
Aron Price [00:44:27]:
He's already by yourself.
Matt Every [00:44:28]:
He's 23.
Aron Price [00:44:29]:
He's married already, too.
Doc Redman [00:44:30]:
Yeah.
Scott Riley [00:44:31]:
Take it back take it back.
Matt Every [00:44:33]:
Take it back.
Scott Riley [00:44:34]:
Sounds awful. Going to Asia.
Aron Price [00:44:38]:
That's cool. And what a pretty place to go to school. That campus is awesome.
Matt Every [00:44:43]:
You ever run down the hill onto the football field?
Doc Redman [00:44:45]:
I did. They let me do that. Did you pet the before the game?
Matt Every [00:44:47]:
Like a recruiting trip?
Doc Redman [00:44:49]:
No, after I won the sick. Yeah, I did. Before one of the games. It was awesome. It's a steep hill. You got to be careful.
Matt Every [00:44:56]:
Dabbo guns.
Doc Redman [00:44:57]:
He guns it.
Scott Riley [00:44:58]:
I just want to see him fall so bad.
Doc Redman [00:44:59]:
I'm sorry. It's incredible.
Aron Price [00:45:01]:
Hold on a second. Scott just said, did you have a pet? The rock? Pet the rock?
Doc Redman [00:45:05]:
Howard's Rock? Howard's Rock.
Aron Price [00:45:07]:
Pet the cat?
Scott Riley [00:45:08]:
No, pet.
Doc Redman [00:45:09]:
Not pat.
Matt Every [00:45:10]:
Are you talking about pet or pat?
Scott Riley [00:45:12]:
They go and pet the rock and then they run down the hill.
Matt Every [00:45:15]:
Is it like Notre Dame slapping the sign?
Doc Redman [00:45:17]:
Hold on.
Aron Price [00:45:18]:
Is it pet?
Scott Riley [00:45:19]:
I didn't know you had a pet.
Matt Every [00:45:20]:
About the Howard's Rock, but I didn't know.
Scott Riley [00:45:22]:
Doc, take it away.
Doc Redman [00:45:23]:
Tell them about no idea. It's a Howard's rock. You're right. And I guess you can do whatever you want with the history for good luck. Oh, I have no idea. It just looks like any other rock, but it's in a glass case.
Scott Riley [00:45:36]:
They were digging in Death Valley and somebody hit it with a shovel.
Matt Every [00:45:39]:
It was like, oh.
Scott Riley [00:45:40]:
And Howard was like, hey, put it up there, and he died later.
Matt Every [00:45:44]:
Makes sense.
Aron Price [00:45:45]:
Pretty much kill the story. Does everyone just go out in the lake every weekend at Clemson? It's like fucking lakes.
Doc Redman [00:45:52]:
That's amazing. Isn't it unbelievable?
Aron Price [00:45:54]:
That's the golf and I couldn't believe how cool that campus was.
Matt Every [00:45:58]:
It's awesome. No golf tans.
Doc Redman [00:46:00]:
No golf tans. No golf tans needed. Gosh, what a great whose Florida have this weekend?
Matt Every [00:46:06]:
We got University of Charlote. Or is it Charlote University? I don't know. I know it's in Charlote.
Scott Riley [00:46:12]:
49 ers. UNC Charlotte.
Matt Every [00:46:13]:
UNC Charlotte. Yeah. Watch out, they might sneak up on us.
Aron Price [00:46:17]:
What about the jags against Houston? We good.
Doc Redman [00:46:19]:
I saw the line was nine and a half.
Aron Price [00:46:21]:
Houston's owing, too.
Matt Every [00:46:22]:
That's houston in that I'm CJ.
Doc Redman [00:46:24]:
Throw's. Throwing it everywhere, it looks like.
Matt Every [00:46:26]:
Yeah, well, he'll throw it to us a few times, too, hopefully, but.
Aron Price [00:46:31]:
I'm bullish on the defense. The defense is looking real good for the jags.
Matt Every [00:46:35]:
It's been two games. The offense is bipolar. I went with Scott Tool and myself. Took the boys this week.
Doc Redman [00:46:44]:
Awesome, dude.
Aron Price [00:46:46]:
Hot.
Matt Every [00:46:46]:
I've never been hotter in my life. That's what I heard. When I got home. I was gas and I wasn't drinking. Like, I was drinking water, but I wasn't drinking.
Doc Redman [00:46:54]:
Right, exactly.
Matt Every [00:46:55]:
Alcohol there.
Aron Price [00:46:56]:
And you're a sweater, so I'm sure Danielle wasn't trying to crawl onto you.
Matt Every [00:47:00]:
I'm a sweater dude. It is what it is. We all are.
Doc Redman [00:47:03]:
Yeah. Why is it so hot there? What's the deal?
Matt Every [00:47:05]:
We need shade in that new stadium, big time.
Doc Redman [00:47:08]:
We were just talking about that.
Aron Price [00:47:11]:
Aren't they going to do it?
Matt Every [00:47:11]:
Tools. Kids stayed home from school. Heat exhaustion the next day. It was a mess there. Dude. It was way too hot.
Scott Riley [00:47:19]:
Well, I mean, 100 people were treated for heat exhaustion.
Matt Every [00:47:23]:
I mean, why not lobby the NFL.
Scott Riley [00:47:25]:
For hey, it's hot here. We need to start at like 430.
Matt Every [00:47:28]:
Or move this the other evening. That would have been amazing at 430.
Doc Redman [00:47:33]:
I think we should do like the west coast thing where they just started at 10:00 a.m. Local and you just get right going because that's pretty amazing when you're on the West Coast and football starts right when you wake up.
Matt Every [00:47:43]:
Breakfast, nothing. We should run it right into football.
Doc Redman [00:47:46]:
Yeah. And we should start it early. Here we have that nice morning and then it's like you're out there's.
Matt Every [00:47:52]:
Nothing better than mystica.
Aron Price [00:47:54]:
Big Saturday night.
Doc Redman [00:47:55]:
Big night.
Aron Price [00:47:56]:
Wake up.
Matt Every [00:47:56]:
Running right into gambling. Hold on, it's kicking at nine. Let's go to brunch. Get this in.
Aron Price [00:48:06]:
Still horizontal and you're watching the NFL. It's fantastic.
Doc Redman [00:48:09]:
I've heard a lot of people say they've bet on Europe for the Ryder Cup early on. Yeah, it's like probably 40 or plus 150.
Matt Every [00:48:18]:
Europe? Is that's where the value is? I mean, it's probably a coin flip. Look, it's twelve versus twelve.
Aron Price [00:48:23]:
It's not do you think Phil he said he wasn't going to gamble, but.
Scott Riley [00:48:27]:
If his value he's not gambling on football.
Matt Every [00:48:31]:
There's a ton of value there.
Scott Riley [00:48:32]:
Or fantasy football.
Aron Price [00:48:33]:
He might bet on them at a spot.
Doc Redman [00:48:35]:
Have you read the Walters book?
Matt Every [00:48:37]:
No. I played with Billy and pebble one.
Doc Redman [00:48:39]:
Year when he won. Zach zach paid for him when he won.
Matt Every [00:48:42]:
It wasn't when he, uh I think we missed the yeah, Zach knows him a little bit.
Aron Price [00:48:50]:
A couple of the tour caddies, if their players aren't caddying, get on some nice little bags for the amateurs there. Harky had a couple of good amateur bags at T guy I don't even know, but it's worth their while. Good for them.
Matt Every [00:49:04]:
Yeah. Fun week.
Doc Redman [00:49:05]:
The seniors are there.
Aron Price [00:49:06]:
This seniors pure insurance.
Matt Every [00:49:09]:
I play with that guy, too. Ross, the Pure Insurance guy, sponsors that event. Great, dude.
Aron Price [00:49:15]:
Well, hey, speaking of senior tour, scott Hend first event last week he won in Germany.
Matt Every [00:49:22]:
Like the British European Senior Senior Tour.
Aron Price [00:49:26]:
He's 50. He's 50.
Matt Every [00:49:28]:
Wow.
Aron Price [00:49:28]:
The man. I'm hoping. I don't think he did get one, but maybe now if the one pops up, he can get in the fury and friends of it.
Matt Every [00:49:34]:
So I talked to Jim about how the invite process works. I played them the other day. He says he gets four and two. Like you got John Daley. You have to you got to get a draw. Boo weekly.
Doc Redman [00:49:49]:
Yeah, everyone loves boo.
Matt Every [00:49:50]:
And then it's like, boo needs invite. You got two and there's like 30 guys that honestly could get the other two. I mean, it's just a ton of guys that are looking and that's tough. It's tough, yeah.
Aron Price [00:50:02]:
So boo weekly needs an invite.
Scott Riley [00:50:04]:
I saw Tim Wilkinson's got an invite.
Matt Every [00:50:08]:
Tim Wilkinson's 50.
Aron Price [00:50:09]:
No, he's not.
Scott Riley [00:50:10]:
Yeah, he is.
Aron Price [00:50:11]:
I know Tim Wilkinson really well.
Matt Every [00:50:13]:
He's like 40.
Scott Riley [00:50:14]:
O'Neill.
Aron Price [00:50:15]:
Tim O'Neill.
Doc Redman [00:50:16]:
Sorry.
Matt Every [00:50:17]:
Tim Wilkinson just slightly different there.
Aron Price [00:50:19]:
They look the same.
Scott Riley [00:50:19]:
Yeah, a lot of tims.
Aron Price [00:50:22]:
Both legends and both of them they're good friends too.
Matt Every [00:50:28]:
We got there, tim O'Neill, he was.
Scott Riley [00:50:30]:
On my local the San Marco magazine.
Aron Price [00:50:33]:
Tim O'Neill is a legend. I'm bridgestone dying for that guy to get up there and win. The guy's just been in he was 26 or something on tour, like, didn't get his card. Extremely talented.
Matt Every [00:50:43]:
Doubled the last at Q school one year to maybe that was it. It was in Lake out in Palm Springs.
Aron Price [00:50:48]:
He's a Savannah goer and he's the nicest great dude around.
Doc Redman [00:50:52]:
Did an old teammate of yours just open up that Rex Golf on beach?
Matt Every [00:50:56]:
He wasn't a teammate, but he was there. Zach yeah, exactly. Rex Golf. That's right.
Doc Redman [00:51:01]:
I went over and checked that out.
Matt Every [00:51:02]:
That's a cool little spot they got there. Right near the marina. Yeah, kind of. OD, and there's two golf shops there. Like, within 40 yards of each other.
Aron Price [00:51:11]:
There are some random golf shops in Jackson. What are the one I think Joshua is it the one on Third Street on Caddyshack?
Matt Every [00:51:17]:
What about the one on yes. Moses Green?
Aron Price [00:51:22]:
It looks every day great.
Scott Riley [00:51:23]:
It looks fantastic.
Matt Every [00:51:25]:
It does. I've never been in there. Did he get royalties from the movie? I think he did.
Scott Riley [00:51:31]:
I think I've heard that rumor.
Matt Every [00:51:32]:
I don't know how true, because he.
Aron Price [00:51:34]:
Had that no wonder he's still open.
Matt Every [00:51:36]:
Right? Yeah, dude, I think he had that place before the movie came out. I got another thing for you, caddyshack. The next time it comes on TV or you watch it in the very beginning the sprinklers are going off and stuff. The very beginning of the movie when they're playing the what's the song? The I'm all right Kenny Loggins song.
Aron Price [00:51:59]:
Give us a little rendition.
Matt Every [00:52:00]:
Tell me that's not riviera. It's 100% shot from the putting green looking down at number ten and nine at Riviera. All the corner without bleachers and stuff. Look down and it definitely is it's not Florida.
Scott Riley [00:52:18]:
All the course shots were done in Florida, I thought.
Matt Every [00:52:20]:
But maybe this is definitely some wrap up production.
Aron Price [00:52:23]:
I know tons of movies that have golf courses in them are all shot of that. Industry hills. Do you ever do the Michael Douglas movie? Like, tons of movies. They're all shot, I think.
Matt Every [00:52:33]:
Michael Douglas. What an animal.
Aron Price [00:52:35]:
What's that movie called?
Matt Every [00:52:36]:
Throat cancer.
Scott Riley [00:52:37]:
Only white man to ever make me moist. Michael Douglas.
Aron Price [00:52:41]:
I think Nutty Professor entourage was the episode. One of them was filmed there. I don't know why they used that, but industry hills.
Matt Every [00:52:47]:
Yeah.
Doc Redman [00:52:49]:
What do you think about Grove?
Matt Every [00:52:51]:
That was good.
Doc Redman [00:52:51]:
We've.
Matt Every [00:52:52]:
Been there a few times. I love it, man. Whip around and play in 2 hours. They got the Caddies riding the things, those motorcycle things. I was riding in our group, I was like, Here, take the cart. I'm taking this.
Scott Riley [00:53:04]:
Do you hop on the Caddies back?
Matt Every [00:53:06]:
No, I just drove it myself. He hopped in the cart.
Aron Price [00:53:08]:
Golf carts go 30 miles an hour.
Matt Every [00:53:11]:
Got a great story from MJ.
Scott Riley [00:53:13]:
Holy cow.
Matt Every [00:53:14]:
Got a great story from down there.
Scott Riley [00:53:15]:
He's got to be done.
Matt Every [00:53:16]:
So, Bill, do you think we can tell this Calfie?
Aron Price [00:53:19]:
Yeah, we can tell.
Matt Every [00:53:20]:
All right.
Scott Riley [00:53:21]:
How many MJ stories do you have, Matt?
Matt Every [00:53:23]:
I don't know. This is not a lot. I mean, I don't know him. So we're having breakfast in there one day, and there's a few guys from Pablo that are down there with us, and one of them is Bill Coffee. He used to run the Nike Tour web nationwide.
Aron Price [00:53:38]:
Yes.
Matt Every [00:53:39]:
And the member down there, this dude, Robert Baker, all time human Michael's, eating breakfast like 20ft away from us. And he goes, hey, Mike. Bill here used to run the Nike Tour. And Mike's like, eating whatever he's eating, and he just looks up, he goes, oh, yeah?
Scott Riley [00:53:56]:
What else?
Matt Every [00:53:58]:
So freaking good. Poor Bill.
Aron Price [00:54:04]:
Poor Bill. But the other eleven of us just broke down and lost.
Matt Every [00:54:08]:
And he's always kind of like the punching bag, too. It's so good.
Aron Price [00:54:12]:
He's the best, though. You couldn't get a better man to take that. He took it beautifully.
Matt Every [00:54:18]:
Yeah, it was good. And then Keegan walked in right after, and I talked to Keegan for a little, and I went out to the range and I go, Bill, were you the commissioner when Keegan was on the corn? And he yeah, yeah. Why? I go, oh, that makes sense. He asked if that was Bill Cowfy. And I go, yeah. And he goes, man, that fucking and he didn't say that, but we were just needle and Bill.
Aron Price [00:54:42]:
Yeah, just needle and bill. Keegan never won on the Corn Fairy. And he finished fifth or 6th, which is hard to do.
Scott Riley [00:54:49]:
His first win was a major, wasn't it?
Matt Every [00:54:51]:
He's skinny right now. Lost a lot of weight, but still moving it.
Aron Price [00:54:57]:
Oh, yeah.
Matt Every [00:54:58]:
All right, Doc, thanks for coming in, bro.
Doc Redman [00:54:59]:
Thanks.
Matt Every [00:55:00]:
You're the best.
Scott Riley [00:55:01]:
Nice, man.
Doc Redman [00:55:01]:
Thank you having me.
Matt Every [00:55:02]:
And good luck the next four tournaments, man, we're going to be pulling for you.
Doc Redman [00:55:05]:
Appreciate it.
Matt Every [00:55:05]:
All right, bro.
