Aron Price [00:00:00]:
When you guys won Zurich, when we went back and you guys had the bibs on still at midnight, people jumping off the roof. Jumping into the intercoastal.
Matt Every [00:00:07]:
The roof of what?
Sam Pinfold [00:00:09]:
The roof of Cam's Dock.
Matt Every [00:00:11]:
Oh, I thought you meant in New Orleans.
Sam Pinfold [00:00:13]:
We flew home that night.
Aron Price [00:00:14]:
No, they were back at, like, 07:00 p.m.. It was like 20 minutes of media straight on a plane back.
Sam Pinfold [00:00:20]:
We're lucky enough to fly with Cam fair bit on the old private jets, and we flew there on the Tuesday morning.
Matt Every [00:00:29]:
You both got, like, two of the best gigs.
Sam Pinfold [00:00:32]:
We flew there in the Tuesday morning.
Aron Price [00:00:33]:
Possibly the two best.
Sam Pinfold [00:00:36]:
We said to Cam, if you boys win this week, me and Maddie will pay for the flight back.
Matt Every [00:00:39]:
No, you did.
Sam Pinfold [00:00:40]:
We still never.
Matty Kelly [00:00:43]:
We'Re still not going to pay.
Sam Pinfold [00:00:44]:
He brings it up every time.
Aron Price [00:00:50]:
All right, welcome back to another episode of Straight Down the Middle. Ish I'm sitting in the hot seat, the host seat, Scott Riley, is sitting out for a minute because we have two guests today. Two special guests, two of our dear friends. What, you would actually now? Veteran caddies veterans.
Matty Kelly [00:01:08]:
Definitely.
Matt Every [00:01:09]:
100% veterans, dude.
Aron Price [00:01:11]:
Well, over ten years. Caddy Sam Pinfold, who caddies for Cameron Smith, and Matthew Kelly, who caddies for Mark Lishman.
Matt Every [00:01:18]:
Yes.
Aron Price [00:01:18]:
Welcome.
Matty Kelly [00:01:19]:
Cheers, boys.
Matt Every [00:01:19]:
That's great to have you guys.
Matty Kelly [00:01:20]:
Thank you.
Matt Every [00:01:21]:
Isn't that crazy to be called a veteran? But you are.
Matty Kelly [00:01:25]:
Yeah, we're yeah, yeah, it does feel a bit weird, but, yeah, we've been.
Matt Every [00:01:28]:
Doing it because they're both pretty unique as well.
Aron Price [00:01:32]:
Different paths, too. Right, Maddie? You probably just holiday with leash.
Matty Kelly [00:01:38]:
Pretty much, yeah. It's funny, actually, because Sam and I my first week or my second week was his first or whatever.
Matt Every [00:01:47]:
What year is this?
Matty Kelly [00:01:48]:
2008 nationwide. But, yeah, I come over, caddy in for Mark, as he needed a caddy, but he needed probably a friend more. And then that's how I got into it and then I loved it. I didn't really know what I was doing. I was decent enough at golf to quickly learn it, but got to the end of the year and I'm like, I want to keep going. This is good, this is fun. So, yeah, that's how I got started. And lucky enough for me that Mark got his tour card.
Matty Kelly [00:02:12]:
Six months.
Matt Every [00:02:13]:
You were buddies with Mark?
Matty Kelly [00:02:15]:
Yeah, Mark and I grew up in a small town. At the time we were growing up there, the population was 25,000 ish. So as far as junior golf goes, there was six or seven of us and he lived on one side of the course, I lived on the other. And, yeah, we just meet after school. School finished at 330. By 04:00, you're on the first tee and you just play till dark.
Aron Price [00:02:35]:
You're a couple of years younger than Leash.
Matty Kelly [00:02:37]:
Two years younger, yeah.
Aron Price [00:02:38]:
And warnable is about two and a half, 3 hours southwest of Melbourne.
Matty Kelly [00:02:43]:
Exactly yeah.
Aron Price [00:02:43]:
On the Great Ocean Road.
Matty Kelly [00:02:44]:
Three hour drive straight down the Great Ocean Road. Depending on the time of year with this tourists around it might take you.
Aron Price [00:02:49]:
5 hours if there's little jam up in um.
Matty Kelly [00:02:53]:
But yeah, that's how I got into.
Matt Every [00:02:57]:
Fall into how'd Cam Smith fall into your lap. Take us to how you got there.
Aron Price [00:03:02]:
Pinna's journey is great.
Matty Kelly [00:03:04]:
I grew up a lot better than mine, different than mine.
Aron Price [00:03:08]:
Yeah.
Sam Pinfold [00:03:09]:
I grew up playing golf in New Zealand and was decent, but never quite going to turn pro. And a good mate of mine, Brad Isles, was one of my best mates and he got a Nationwide Tour cart in 2008 and basically said, you want to come over for three or four weeks in Caddy? I booked about a three month trip and ended up doing the whole year on a couple of different sort of trips and like Maddie said there, I think our first one was first one was was it Athens or maybe Virginia? Virginia.
Matty Kelly [00:03:35]:
Because mine was Athens, so it must.
Sam Pinfold [00:03:37]:
Have been yeah, Virginia.
Aron Price [00:03:37]:
Wow, what a week to start. Athens, Georgia. Nothing to do in Athens, Georgia.
Matt Every [00:03:43]:
Hello world.
Sam Pinfold [00:03:44]:
In April the boys actually got paired together and Leish and I actually knew Leash from Amada Golf. And I prepared you the first two rounds and I remember getting to the end of the first day and thinking, oh, don't think much of Leash is Caddy. And I didn't say much.
Matty Kelly [00:04:02]:
Most people think the same thing.
Aron Price [00:04:03]:
It's fine.
Sam Pinfold [00:04:04]:
15 years later we've been best mates for about 14 and a half of them. It's been a long road, but then worked for Aussie for about four years on the Nationwide Tour. Then really had a big step up in job. I went to work for a guy called Aaron Price.
Aron Price [00:04:17]:
Wow, the highs and the lows.
Sam Pinfold [00:04:20]:
Cameron Smith and worked for Price for about a year, 15 months, and then sort of jumped on to I wanted to try and work on the PGA Tour, where Maddie another good mat of ours, Joe Scorham. We've been working for a while and hopped around there for a good 18 months, two years with different guys and managed to meet Cam in the New Zealand Open in 2014. And then about, probably about twelve months later he broke through in the States and gave me the call to start full time and been going ever since. So, yeah, it's been pretty good.
Matt Every [00:04:48]:
Yeah. So were you on the bag for Cam? He kind of came on my radar at the CIMB over there in Malaysia. Were you on the bag for that first good week he had over there?
Sam Pinfold [00:04:59]:
I wasn't. That was his coach.
Matt Every [00:05:00]:
Okay.
Sam Pinfold [00:05:01]:
I was at the same event working for Trevor Illumina.
Matt Every [00:05:03]:
Okay. Yeah. Brad isles. Man Legend. What a legend. He's one of those guys, you hear his name and you just start smiling.
Matty Kelly [00:05:12]:
He's the best. Yeah.
Aron Price [00:05:13]:
What a sweet swing. Too beautiful.
Matt Every [00:05:16]:
Human, too.
Aron Price [00:05:17]:
Model swing.
Matty Kelly [00:05:18]:
I love that lucky dog.
Matt Every [00:05:20]:
He had it all.
Aron Price [00:05:21]:
He really did. The Great Pulos is in Queenstown this week with Lindell. I know Ozzy's not there, but favorite.
Matt Every [00:05:29]:
Place you guys have both been.
Sam Pinfold [00:05:31]:
Favorite place.
Matt Every [00:05:31]:
Yeah, he said that's. That's mine.
Matty Kelly [00:05:36]:
Yeah, I remember. I think. Yeah, mark must be the same event. New Zealand, PGA in Queenstown. And I said to myself, it doesn't matter who I marry or whatever I am honeymooning here. Really? And then four years later, we did. But yeah, that's my favorite place.
Matt Every [00:05:52]:
Bangkok for.
Aron Price [00:05:57]:
One night in Bangkok, and the world's your oyster.
Sam Pinfold [00:06:01]:
I mean, Queenstown's the first event where she ended up catting for Cam, so it's turned out pretty good. So, yeah. Chime in there, too.
Aron Price [00:06:07]:
Pretty close to home, you know? Maddie's home now is Jacksonville. You'd say your second home is Jacksonville. Your first home is Wellington, New Zealand.
Sam Pinfold [00:06:15]:
Yeah, correct.
Aron Price [00:06:16]:
Yeah.
Sam Pinfold [00:06:16]:
Papran beach up on the coast.
Aron Price [00:06:18]:
Never been there. I can't wait. February.
Matty Kelly [00:06:22]:
I'm going to stay with him for a couple of days after the Aussie Open this year. Just booked it yesterday.
Matt Every [00:06:25]:
How long are you going so good for?
Sam Pinfold [00:06:27]:
I'll be heading home from leaving Jacks about the end of October, and I'll be probably coming back here early February.
Matt Every [00:06:33]:
Oh, wow. So nice. Chunk.
Sam Pinfold [00:06:34]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:06:34]:
Good for you, man. I want to go next time you go over, man.
Aron Price [00:06:40]:
February, February, 19 to 28. Meeting pools are playing. Tara, Edie, carrie cliffs.
Matty Kelly [00:06:46]:
He plays more golf.
Aron Price [00:06:48]:
Just this year I'm back, I didn't play for, like, three or four years. I'm catching up.
Matt Every [00:06:54]:
He'll text the group thread or myself and be like, 63 today, and I'm like, you cannot send these texts and not sign up for Q school. Yeah, I don't want to hear how good your golf is.
Aron Price [00:07:05]:
There was only two good rounds, and there's been, like, four years of shit. There were two good rounds. One was, like, basically a muni.
Matt Every [00:07:11]:
You are swinging. It nice. I've seen some you know, he feels good about it. He's putting it on instagram.
Aron Price [00:07:18]:
No, I've been trying to keep it off because some of the real estate I'm in different cities, but I still get my work done.
Matty Kelly [00:07:28]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:07:28]:
All right, so both of you guys made it pretty you're not on the Tour anymore because both of you guys went to live, but both of you have been with him forever. Matty, you his whole career. Okay. Compared to how you're treated now on the live, do you feel like you were like was anything unfair for you guys on the Tour? Did it open your eyes a little bit on the live?
Sam Pinfold [00:07:54]:
I mean, I'm not going to sit here and say anything bad about the PGA Tour. As caddies, I always felt that my boss was Cameron Smith. The way Cameron Smith treated me was all that mattered. I was paid by him. I worked for him. If the tour provided a great parking spot or a great lunch that was a bonus. Anything like, I was never a guy who complained about the lunch or complained about things like that because at the end of the day, my boss was Cameron Smith, not the PGA Tour. I was working PGA Tour events, but it wasn't him as such.
Sam Pinfold [00:08:19]:
And the way since we've gone to live, the way that we're treated more as equals, as players is part of once you're almost a credential part of live, you are part of the team or part of the family, I guess, or part of the Tour. And there's no difference between, like, player.
Matt Every [00:08:35]:
Dining is caddy dining, it's dining, it's dining. That's it.
Sam Pinfold [00:08:38]:
And parking is parking and that sort of thing. So it's been great in that sort of aspect to be treated like that. But again, I wouldn't say anything bad about the Tour because at the end of the day, I was one of those guys who felt like your boss was your boss, and that was it.
Aron Price [00:08:51]:
Independent contractor, and you're probably not going to get on the scale of one to 100. These guys are probably a one compared to some that ever complaining.
Matty Kelly [00:09:01]:
I think people I'm exactly the same.
Aron Price [00:09:03]:
As, so caught up in the micro. The macro is your boss playing well, earning your life.
Matty Kelly [00:09:10]:
The PJ Tour has been amazing to us, Mark and myself. In Mark's eyes, it was the best place for him to play golf, professional golf. And then in his eyes, that now changed. But when that question comes up, I always do say, yeah, it's a noticeable difference with Live, but they're dealing with 48 guys, 48 players.
Matt Every [00:09:31]:
Sure.
Matty Kelly [00:09:32]:
PGA Tour has most weeks full field, somewhere between 142 and 156. Double that with caddies. You got coaches, it's a whole different ballgame. When you talk about getting everyone in the same room, you've got to think.
Aron Price [00:09:46]:
About the different level of catering.
Matty Kelly [00:09:48]:
Yeah, catering, pricing. But then even like, if something goes wrong and there's an emergency, you're only let it have a certain amount of people in each room. So how many clubhouses have enough room for 400 people?
Matt Every [00:09:57]:
Right.
Matty Kelly [00:09:58]:
Like, just little things like that that people are quick to jump on. Same thing. I work for Mark, I don't work for Liv, and I didn't work for the Tour. Very grateful for both, and it's definitely a little bit of a step up, but I don't look at the Tour as a bad one.
Aron Price [00:10:15]:
The macro is your boss and your team playing well, but there is a I got to do the one week in Saudi Arabia, and it does feel so fun. It's like a bloody junior tournament. Everyone's hanging out, giving each other shit.
Matt Every [00:10:28]:
I am so freaking jealous of you guys both. I see that schedule, the places are going, and I know what times they start. I know there's a lot of fun.
Matty Kelly [00:10:38]:
Being it's fun to get your ticket, you wake up, you're heading to the airport. And I got to be careful because I just said I'm not going to rag on the tour. But it gets repetitive when you're going to Memphis or you go into somewhere that it's also individual.
Aron Price [00:10:53]:
Like, you are strictly individual. You unleash, you unleash. It's like Cam's doing his thing and whatever. Ricky Fallon scovron. But with Liv, it's not.
Matty Kelly [00:11:02]:
It's like, next trip we flying out of Miami to Emirates, through Dubai to Saudi, and it's just like all of a sudden, it's like, yeah, that flight is going to be brutal, but it's also going to be fun because we're doing it all together, first class. You go to Singapore, you go to Australia, we do all this stuff. Yeah, it's like reignited the flame a little bit.
Aron Price [00:11:24]:
100%.
Matty Kelly [00:11:26]:
And the tournaments themselves. The main purpose of the event staff is to make sure the fan has fun. It has to be fun. It's a place to bring your kids, it's a place to go on a boys trip. It's got to be fun for all ages and all aspects of life. And it ends up being more fun for all of us involved as well.
Aron Price [00:11:49]:
I've seen a couple of the old I guess you'd put them a cremudgeon, like journalists, and a couple of them have gone to Lives and even they admit, like the music and stuff, they're like, oh, it's weird. But then by the time you're walking out the gate, it's good, it's a nice flow. It is cool.
Matt Every [00:12:07]:
Have you both bought into the team thing? Can you feel it when you're out there?
Sam Pinfold [00:12:13]:
100%. Yeah, 100%. I think it's one of the coolest parts of Live that we have experienced so far in the first year. And a bit just the other day when Leash was up there and finishing. Maddie and Leash have been great friends since when we said 15 years ago, we started and if they were going well in a PJ Tour event, we'd give it a little come on leash late in the Sunday, but now on the Sundays, come on leash, it means something for everyone.
Matt Every [00:12:39]:
That's so cool.
Sam Pinfold [00:12:40]:
Yeah, it is cool. And then, I mean, the team practice rounds, the team locker rooms, everything that sort of comes, it and the boys are pretty close. Our team's cool and the fact that all four boys are the Australian, so it's got general Camaraderie there anyway, and it is cool. And sort of with the shotgun starts, it sort of gets you thinking, late on a Sunday, hang on, what hole is Least finishing on? Or he's finishing on the first. He's got a birdie chance there. So the whole aspect of it and everything, like, mean, I thought at the start I was getting a bit of a side product, but it's not at all. It's the main thing.
Matt Every [00:13:11]:
What do you see the future of Live, the immediate future being of live like next two or three years, I.
Sam Pinfold [00:13:16]:
Just see it kicking on and getting stronger and stronger from what it's been. I think they'll work, working out where their markets are and what's popular and what's been good. I feel like most events have been good, some have been better than others, but I just see them just kicking on and getting stronger.
Matt Every [00:13:29]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:13:30]:
Next year looks like it's going to be very similar to this year. And then 25 may be a little different. It seems like no one knows, but that's the path that it seems to be.
Matty Kelly [00:13:39]:
Yeah. From what we've been told, I don't think 24 will look any different. And then going forward, who knows from there? But Peter's exactly right. It's amazing how often I mean, with the golf tournament and the shotgun start when we first joined, I'm like, might be a bit quirky, but it's actually been one of the best parts about is, you know, obviously a big name player. So he's often in the first couple of hole, either the first hole, but then there's leash and then Jonesy and Jed, and you start thinking with a couple of holes to go, what hole? It's amazing how often you check the team score and think about where they're at in terms of the holes on the golf course compared to yourself. Like, if Leica is eleven under and the lead is 16, we're fired back. I don't care how many holes we have to go, we got to get going.
Aron Price [00:14:25]:
But I think what got lost with a little bit of the tour is the element of fun and team golf. Like you look every year. The passion at the Ryder Cup and the Presence Cup and even Zurich, the two man thing is, money is a big factor in people's lives, but so is fun, and once you have a lot of money, you want to be able to do both. So I think that's an enticing part, especially coming from Australia. A lot of team match play and stuff like that. And team pressure is a different type of pressure. I've said this a few times here, I wish you could translate that to the audience, is like, okay, so say for these guys, they're playing well. Jed's, four under.
Aron Price [00:15:02]:
Cam's, four under. Matt Jones is five over and Leash is one over. That's a nervous time to be one over because your score is counting and it makes you like a little sick in the stomach. Look, no one's we're not in the trenches at Normandy, of course, but it's a different type of nerves because you.
Matty Kelly [00:15:19]:
Don'T have your shit.
Aron Price [00:15:21]:
Other three other people are counting on you. If you mess up, you can always live with yourself. But it's interesting, it's hard to explain that it's like college golf. I've totally college golf. Yeah, same.
Matt Every [00:15:32]:
Just playing with Billy in New Orleans. Man, I could feel that guy staring a hole in my back. Take a deep breath.
Matty Kelly [00:15:41]:
What's going to be and that's knowing what each player needs from your team and how do you offer support and if they're struggling, what do you say?
Matt Every [00:15:49]:
But how do you keep your guy? There's a small amount of time for you guys to make decisions on like, okay, do I step in here? He's running a little hot. Or is this my time to get a word in? Shit's off right now. Do you just kind of know your guy and hop in whenever?
Matty Kelly [00:16:09]:
I think that's where we're at a bit of an advantage because we work for the same guy for so long. Little things. It happened a little bit last week. We teed off the third and 16 and 18 are probably two of the hardest holes in the course and we got through those holes unscathed. So I remember on the first hole now we've got two holes to go. They're both birdie holes and I just had to re get it through leash's head like, come on, there's still two holes to go. Let's not just relax now because you go from such you're on edge. And then I can relax now because I got two easy holes.
Matty Kelly [00:16:43]:
No, you got to finish off the round. Like little things like that. If I sense that, which I did and I had to just drum it into him a little bit. Come, mate, tell us to go full concentration here. Little tiny little things like that. But that's just because I've worked for him for so long and I can sense it from him. You're kind of the same. But yeah, to your point, you have a small amount of time.
Matty Kelly [00:17:03]:
You got to pick your spots, but hopefully you should know when to do.
Sam Pinfold [00:17:09]:
I mean, I'd agree with that. Mean, I feel like me and Cam play cam and I play a pretty aggressive game out there and I sort of feel like I got the keys to a Ferrari every time we get in the first tee. And just sort of basically just keep it going, keep it going, keep it pointing the right direction, keep it off the curbs, keep it off the curbs. And let's see, he likes to go quick. He likes to play quick and be aggressive.
Matt Every [00:17:35]:
It's a fast walker too.
Sam Pinfold [00:17:36]:
He fast walker everything. And we like to so I've just got to make sure. I was trying to make sure my speech and everything I deliver is always positive. It's always direct, it's always quick. I mean, the last thing he wants to hear is sort of me, oh, hang on, because you'll back off and look at me with a pretty sticky.
Matt Every [00:17:50]:
Why are you hesitant?
Sam Pinfold [00:17:51]:
Exactly. I've got to make sure when I deliver it, it's bang, bang, bang. The two or three things I want to say, they're positive, they're direct and go, and we'll live and die by the results. And we have in certain ways, but it's a lot of fun to deal with when, you know, you're just sort of loading up a Ferrari and let's see what happens.
Aron Price [00:18:07]:
What about when you get to the range and you can just sort of sense that something's under his skin in either you know, we all have families, we're all humans.
Matty Kelly [00:18:15]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:18:16]:
We have shit.
Matty Kelly [00:18:17]:
All of a sudden I need a duck.
Sam Pinfold [00:18:21]:
I feel I just have my go to conversations. You know, the rugby league cars are the two big ones with cam and sports and New Zealand Australian sports in general. And just to switch him mean he's he's pretty exciting and pretty fun to work for.
Matty Kelly [00:18:35]:
It depends on you.
Sam Pinfold [00:18:36]:
Very different.
Matty Kelly [00:18:37]:
Like working for Lee. He's the nicest, most laid back human in the world. So it's very rare for him to be on edge or agitated and same thing. If I can sense that now, it's my job to make him laugh or crack a joke and get him back to normal. But sometimes that might also mean leaving him alone for ten minutes and coming back.
Aron Price [00:18:58]:
You talk much. Is he a Hawthorne man?
Matty Kelly [00:19:01]:
Richmond.
Aron Price [00:19:02]:
Oh, you're both Richmond? Richmond.
Matty Kelly [00:19:04]:
Yeah. We're done for this year.
Matt Every [00:19:06]:
Both of you guys have had success at St. Andrews. Maddie, you guys lost in a play. Was a playoff.
Matty Kelly [00:19:14]:
Playoff.
Matt Every [00:19:14]:
15.
Matty Kelly [00:19:14]:
Yeah, we had a part on the 72nd hole, but yeah, but then we went to a playoff.
Matt Every [00:19:18]:
Yeah. Can you just run through the feelings in your body for me? Like the last couple of holes?
Matty Kelly [00:19:23]:
Yeah. So weird thing about that week is we only made the cut. I think we made the cut with one shot up our sleeve so we weren't running anywhere. And then Saturday was a washout, so we had a whole day of nothing. We enjoyed ourselves for sure.
Matt Every [00:19:41]:
I remember that week.
Aron Price [00:19:43]:
Is that the wind?
Matt Every [00:19:45]:
Yeah, I was on the tip. I was on eleven when they blew the horn out there. Part three. Unbelievable.
Aron Price [00:19:51]:
For the highest point on the course. Unbelievable elevation of 7ft, but it is that's very exposed.
Matty Kelly [00:20:01]:
I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't 100% when I showed up Sunday morning for round three. Let's just say that. And I remember leash's first shot, just a casual little wedge shank straight over into the crowd over there.
Aron Price [00:20:15]:
What are the ODS you're going to be in a playoff or have a putt to open?
Matty Kelly [00:20:18]:
So then he goes out and he plays. Unbelievable. I think he shot 64 on third round and then it was a bit of a mad rush out. We couldn't extend our house. So there was Sam and I, Joe. I think Bussey was in the house. We're all trying to find somewhere to stay and Lisa's like, I've got two beds in my room. Come stay with me.
Matty Kelly [00:20:36]:
We had this amazing steak dinner at the restaurant downstairs at the hotel. Actually got a text from my wife Stephanie that she was pregnant that day. A first born was already born. It was just all coming together. I'm like, out of my hands. We got 15th club up there looking out for it. Right.
Aron Price [00:20:54]:
You are real.
Matty Kelly [00:21:00]:
Got off to another great start and I remember Leash hit a putt on we're on the front. I think he hit driver three iron on the front of the 17th green. I mean, he had 80ft and I'm ten in the flag.
Aron Price [00:21:12]:
What a hole.
Matty Kelly [00:21:12]:
And he hit this putt and from 15ft out I'm like, oh, it's in. I just got to get a flag was out of the hole. I almost rolled over the road in front of the crowd. It somehow missed. And then we had a I remember that decent look on the 18th and just didn't quite make it and then off to a playoff. But I think you're kidding yourself if you think that it doesn't enter your mind about what potentially is about to happen at St. Andrews. At St.
Matty Kelly [00:21:41]:
Andrews.
Aron Price [00:21:44]:
My theory on why Cam is because I think that enters his mind less than other guys. Call me crazy, I've never spoken to him about it. I don't know if you don't even need to comment it, but I just think he just wants to beat that guy.
Matty Kelly [00:21:57]:
Yeah. I don't necessarily think it may be coming to Leash's head until maybe if it did, it was after we'd finished and we still had 30 minutes to wait until the other groups. At that point, maybe, but I totally.
Matt Every [00:22:08]:
See what you're saying, but I just don't think there's any human on the planet that couldn't I'm not saying it.
Aron Price [00:22:14]:
Doesn'T come into that could block that out, not blocking it out.
Matt Every [00:22:17]:
You're teeing off 18 there with a one shot lead. It has to enter your head. I'm about to win a major at St. Andrews. You're in history, and these guys are you guys. Unbelievable week.
Sam Pinfold [00:22:29]:
Yeah, I mean, it was an unbelievable week. Rough from the start. Friday round, I think he hauled every single putt we looked at. Really, he just was boxing from everywhere. Then we teed off Saturday. I think we teed off at 320 or 330 in the afternoon on Saturday there you got to wait all day. I mean, he played just as good as he played on the Friday. He just didn't hold apart.
Aron Price [00:22:49]:
That's normally about race four, race 5330.
Sam Pinfold [00:22:52]:
On Saturday, and I think we three putted the first for a bogey and never got anything going. Rory and Victor were in the group in front of us. They were making everything they're just chance of Rory. Rory around the crowd. Around the crowd. And I mean, I think we struggled through the back nine and I mean, one of the biggest things that always stick with me is I'm not sure we bogeyed a part 16. We're in the middle of 17th fairway on Saturday, and he just sort of came, looked at me and sort of gave me a little whack on the shoulder and he said, don't worry, we had to give these guys four shots. Good start.
Sam Pinfold [00:23:20]:
Didn't like I mean, that comes from a guy, I think we're two and three in front of the start of the day. We're now four behind and he hits you and says, what? I don't know if there's any other professional in the world who has that attitude. We finished, did some work and then turned up Sunday. And, I mean, it's been a bit of a common trait for a few of our wins that we've been three or four back starting the last round. And I think that's the best thing for Cammy, just gets the bit between the teeth and just knows he's got one option and to make a ton birdies. And he played awesome through that first nine without getting much reward. And then once we turned on ten, we birdie 1011, 1213, 14, and that all happened kind of we birdie ten, 1112 as a whole. You're expecting to maybe birdie, and then 13 was a bonus.
Sam Pinfold [00:24:01]:
14 expecting to birdie, and he had a putt up there and tapped in and we sort of had a good five minutes while Cam Young was finishing out and there's a leaderboard sitting right at us and I think we're one in front. Then I was just like, wow, here we go.
Aron Price [00:24:15]:
Hit it over the back on 14, which was the play, and Rory would finish short, which was a much harder shot.
Sam Pinfold [00:24:19]:
It was a great option. And then I remember standing there, you can see the clubhouse from that 15th tee. And I said, we just got to get in. I felt like the job we did to get in there was amazing. And, I mean, standing on that 18 that up and down on 17 was never forget that. I mean, filthy. He hit that second shot in there and as soon as he hit it, we were trying to do the right thing. We're trying to play a little short, little right.
Sam Pinfold [00:24:42]:
And he just pulled that nine iron and as soon as he hit, he's, like, pulled it and then sort of.
Aron Price [00:24:46]:
1% pull you down there.
Sam Pinfold [00:24:48]:
He tapped me.
Matty Kelly [00:24:49]:
You know, a pool goes further than me. There's so many things.
Sam Pinfold [00:24:52]:
He looked at me and said, that's not good down there, is it? I said no. And then we walked up and I was take time. He walked up and I mean, just did the right option. I'll never forget when he sort of hold that part and then sort of charge in the next tee. And I think the best thing about the next tea was we had a little debate early in the week was playing so far down window, it was in between sort of like a three wood and a two iron to get near the front where that day wasn't. Enough help. There was nothing better. Just I mean, I said, you can hit driving it as hard as you like, and that was the best thing for it.
Sam Pinfold [00:25:18]:
And then we saw where Rory's I saw where Rory's second shot landed on 17.
Matty Kelly [00:25:23]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:25:23]:
Were you guys walking off the tee?
Sam Pinfold [00:25:25]:
We're walking off the tee and I saw and I knew the situation. And obviously the crowd went wild. And then by the time that we got up to the green and Cam was lining up his putt, cam didn't see any of this, but he was literally in the middle of his routine, and I could see Rory over the ball. And on 17 green, I saw him hit the putt, and I just remember thinking my head, no roar, no roar, no roar, no heard the crowd like, oh. And then literally as the crowd what a feel.
Matt Every [00:25:48]:
What a feeling.
Matty Kelly [00:25:50]:
Doing cartwheels.
Aron Price [00:25:52]:
No Rory.
Sam Pinfold [00:25:54]:
As the crowd went, oh, cam took the putter back and hit his putt, and it's come up over out of the valley, up over the hill, and.
Matt Every [00:26:02]:
It was an amazing putt. Yeah.
Sam Pinfold [00:26:03]:
And it was rolling up, rolling. I was like, Go on, go on, go on, go on, go. And it's finished up like a foot and a half in the hole. I was like, we just went in the open, put my head down, was trying to gather myself he oh, my God. Marked and walked over to I was sort of keeping a straight face. Nice putt, mate. Nice putt. Just sort of keeping his simple airs.
Sam Pinfold [00:26:18]:
And then obviously, Cam Young hold his, which actually put a little bit more heat on. It was a foot and a half, but he still had to make it.
Matty Kelly [00:26:28]:
The last thing is, any extra hold.
Aron Price [00:26:32]:
On John Lamonte is a budy of ours. I hope you weren't thinking, no, birdie, Kim. Sorry, bird.
Sam Pinfold [00:26:40]:
And he banged it in, and then he looked straight up at me and he's like, what's the deal? I said, Rory's got to make two to tie. And he kind of gave me a little smile. I mean, that walk there from over that scoring area, it was a pretty amazing feeling. And obviously the next hour or so afterwards is pretty surreal. So, I mean, what a place to.
Aron Price [00:26:55]:
He lets out, I think, when he holds it.
Sam Pinfold [00:26:59]:
He was pretty happy.
Matt Every [00:27:00]:
We were all happy.
Aron Price [00:27:02]:
How was the two things? Just obviously, people deal with stress or whatever, and I've caddied a couple of times, and I feel like you do feel as much, maybe more, maybe less than the player because you have no control. But how was the saliva in your mouth, those last few holes?
Sam Pinfold [00:27:18]:
Yeah, mine was struggling. I was just trying to do my.
Aron Price [00:27:20]:
Best to it goes missing, doesn't it?
Matt Every [00:27:23]:
Before?
Sam Pinfold [00:27:24]:
Feed on the waterfall as much as possible and keep talking. But we actually talked the whole way up the 18th hole about Cam's. Got a tradition in Australian rugby league is a mad Monday party, which is the end of season dress up party. And we're planning it already coming up and before the event. And we talked about the Mad Monday party. I reckon we talked about it on four of the last five holes in St. Andrews. And we just kept talking.
Aron Price [00:27:47]:
We're walking up, he didn't do too well.
Matty Kelly [00:27:49]:
That part shows how stupid Caddying is.
Aron Price [00:27:51]:
He was in bed.
Matty Kelly [00:27:52]:
The biggest moment of player's career and you're talking about a silly party that's going to happen. You got it, though. But that's exactly what we're talking about before is anything. He's reading his player. He knows he needs to take an edge off him.
Matt Every [00:28:04]:
Can we talk about the racehorses you guys own? How are those going?
Matty Kelly [00:28:09]:
Well, I own one with him, which.
Matt Every [00:28:11]:
Has been I'm obsessed with this, by the way, and I'm a little pissed off. I never got invited.
Aron Price [00:28:15]:
It's still hold on. I own another one with him. You should be lucky. I think this question should be directed.
Matt Every [00:28:22]:
Really?
Matty Kelly [00:28:22]:
I own one. He owns about seven or eight.
Matt Every [00:28:24]:
It sounds like a blast, dude, if you can watch your horse run. I mean, that's got to be funny.
Matty Kelly [00:28:29]:
We did in Columbus.
Sam Pinfold [00:28:30]:
Yeah, me and Maddie had one in Columbus. That shit was second starter. It was called Danger Strikes and Cam.
Matt Every [00:28:35]:
Was did you come up with the name?
Sam Pinfold [00:28:36]:
No, we didn't. Memorial event on a Friday night in a bar and Cam was with us and it actually won. And, I mean, this is we're talking a $30,000 race in New Zealand. So, I mean, we might have got 18,000 stake and we own maybe 5% each of this horse. So we're talking about we're doing hundreds of dollars worth.
Matty Kelly [00:28:56]:
We won more gambling on it than the horse won it.
Sam Pinfold [00:28:58]:
Sure. We were jumping around shouting champagne and everything. Cam's, like, you don't get this excited.
Aron Price [00:29:03]:
When we win an event, which is true. Cam won't do it either. I think Des has put something in the brain there.
Matt Every [00:29:12]:
He won't let him.
Aron Price [00:29:14]:
He's not really into it, though, which is fair enough.
Sam Pinfold [00:29:16]:
We've got cam to bite. Cam is in the market with let's go. Good friend of ours, Jason McDonald. He's currently looking for a horse. Let's go.
Matty Kelly [00:29:24]:
His budget's a little different than ours.
Sam Pinfold [00:29:26]:
Yeah, which is going to help us.
Aron Price [00:29:28]:
He's going to buy a stable.
Matt Every [00:29:29]:
What do your horses look mean?
Sam Pinfold [00:29:32]:
They're good looking horses. I just had a first starter the other day. I had a good first starter called Kingston Heath in Australia, in New Zealand, and I got another first starter coming up that's going to be called Sawgrass.
Matty Kelly [00:29:43]:
You have got a good tradition with your dad.
Sam Pinfold [00:29:46]:
My dad got me into it a long time ago and he named them all off the golf courses. So I'm trying to keep tradition going in the family. So it's a bit of fun. Only percentage of them, but it's a bit of fun. Price. You'll contest this and Maddie, it's a big thing in New Zealand, Australia. It's part of the culture.
Matty Kelly [00:30:03]:
It's what you do.
Sam Pinfold [00:30:04]:
It's what you do on a Saturday.
Matty Kelly [00:30:05]:
After Australia, if it's Saturday racing, that there will be, at a minimum 20 race events going around around the country. And if you're not having a bet at all, which you'll be the OD one out, really.
Aron Price [00:30:17]:
I'll explain the other day. So from twelve till six or 1235.
Matt Every [00:30:20]:
30, I want to go spend like a month. Over there.
Aron Price [00:30:24]:
You got sydney.
Sam Pinfold [00:30:25]:
Melbourne.
Aron Price [00:30:26]:
Brisbane. Sydney.
Matty Kelly [00:30:27]:
Melbourne.
Aron Price [00:30:27]:
Adelaide. Perth. And then a couple in New Zealand.
Matty Kelly [00:30:29]:
Don't forget about Char Tin.
Aron Price [00:30:31]:
That's later. Char Tin or Happy Valley. But you've got them and they're running every like, four to five minutes because they're all 45 minutes, but they time it perfectly. And my dad for 40, 50 years, goes down the pub. Doesn't go to race one, but, like, 02:00 to 530, he's down there in the races, takes his couple of $100 bets, $20 a horse, has a skin full, six schooners or something, and then comes home. And he either comes home with nothing but he's paid for his entertainment, or he comes home and with a win and buys Chinese food or a stereo or something, maybe an auction item that we didn't need. But it is it is really part of the custom on a Saturday at the golf club.
Matt Every [00:31:12]:
Like college football here.
Matty Kelly [00:31:13]:
Pretty well, kind of, yeah.
Matt Every [00:31:16]:
There's nothing better than betting horses with your buddies.
Aron Price [00:31:20]:
It's really tough to be well, then you go to the actual, especially when.
Matty Kelly [00:31:23]:
You'Re winning, you'll put in a certain amount of money and then you chip.
Matt Every [00:31:26]:
Away each bet dangerous. Slippery slope, though. Slippery slope.
Matty Kelly [00:31:33]:
Not when you're saying pinfall.
Aron Price [00:31:34]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:31:35]:
What is that? What did you just say? Self control.
Sam Pinfold [00:31:38]:
Self control.
Matty Kelly [00:31:39]:
Who invented that?
Aron Price [00:31:41]:
I will say you go through plenty of spurts where we weren't bit for a few months.
Matt Every [00:31:45]:
You actually do have self control a little bit. You do, yeah.
Aron Price [00:31:49]:
We're needed going back to the British Open last year. I normally text these guys, how's he going? And I text you after the Scottish Open. I think you guys played pretty good in the final round. Maybe. Or maybe played bad.
Sam Pinfold [00:32:01]:
We battled hard on the Friday afternoon to make the cut and then played really nicely over the Saturday and Sunday.
Aron Price [00:32:05]:
And I said, how's he looking for this week? And he just wrote back one word, great. And then normally there's a bit of explanation. Oh, yeah, it was just great.
Matty Kelly [00:32:16]:
So that was pretty that's when you knows his horse.
Aron Price [00:32:19]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:32:19]:
So what's next for you guys? One more event this year?
Matty Kelly [00:32:23]:
Yeah, well, we're a week and a half more off and then we go to Saudi.
Matt Every [00:32:28]:
You got to love that, by the way.
Aron Price [00:32:30]:
Yeah.
Matty Kelly [00:32:31]:
The weeks off leash told me at the start of the year, especially if you've got kids. His first year joining, he's going to really enjoy playing no events. So we haven't played any international series. He's going to play 16 events for the whole year.
Matt Every [00:32:45]:
Wow.
Matty Kelly [00:32:46]:
And then next year he said, I just want to go a year and experience it. But he even said, I can tell straight away we're going to play a few extra next year, but it'd be no more than 20. But yeah. So we go to Saudi for the last individual event. Individual event. And then next week, the week after that is Miami for the team championship. And then we're done. And the boys will both play at least one or two in Australia at the end of the year.
Aron Price [00:33:14]:
As Leash confirmed, doesn't know you, but he's going over there.
Matty Kelly [00:33:18]:
He's going to go home. Yeah, he's most likely going to eat, he's assured. But we're going to play the PGA. And then after that, he's not sure.
Aron Price [00:33:24]:
But not Hong Kong or anything.
Matty Kelly [00:33:25]:
We're not doing any of that.
Matt Every [00:33:27]:
Wait, the same for you?
Sam Pinfold [00:33:28]:
Yeah, we're playing Hong Kong.
Matt Every [00:33:29]:
Oh, nice.
Sam Pinfold [00:33:29]:
Yeah, international series.
Aron Price [00:33:31]:
You know what? Hong Kong has two big horse racetracks, chartin and Happy Valley.
Sam Pinfold [00:33:36]:
You know, we're all be on the Wednesday night.
Matt Every [00:33:38]:
Really?
Sam Pinfold [00:33:38]:
Chartin or Happy Valley?
Aron Price [00:33:40]:
Happy Valley looks like unbelievable. It looks like Mooney Valley Times.
Sam Pinfold [00:33:44]:
Yeah. They race there on the Wednesday nights and Sundays. So I think I'll make the Wednesday night for sure.
Matty Kelly [00:33:48]:
See here, he knows this guy. He's busy Sunday.
Matt Every [00:33:53]:
You're so well, like, I feel like I am. And then when I look at you, I'm like, man, if I could just get stuck in Asia with Penner for about two months, see if any one of us will come out alive.
Sam Pinfold [00:34:05]:
New Zealand and Australia is where you want to get, mate. You'll love it down there.
Matt Every [00:34:08]:
I've been I love yeah, I love you guys. You're the best.
Matty Kelly [00:34:13]:
Especially over, like, Christmas time. The weather's nice. Everyone's just in a good isn't that.
Matt Every [00:34:18]:
When the tournaments are down there?
Sam Pinfold [00:34:19]:
Yeah, they are.
Aron Price [00:34:20]:
It is the best time to go. We was supposed to go in June this year, and my parents were like, they haven't seen their grandkids. And I'll just ford it. And I was like, look, I booked a ticket for December. There's no fun to be had in June, is there, with family and that. But Christmas time. Australians flip, don't they? Everyone's in a good mood.
Matt Every [00:34:39]:
Do they have Monday qualifiers for this?
Aron Price [00:34:42]:
Yes, absolutely.
Sam Pinfold [00:34:47]:
You just need to tell me, Aaron.
Matt Every [00:34:48]:
Price, you'd be straight these days around Panavidra. That's all you got to do.
Aron Price [00:34:55]:
I can't get myself in. I wouldn't want to embarrass myself.
Matt Every [00:34:58]:
All right, we got a couple of questions from the internet for you guys before we get you out of here. Matt, you ready? You're up first.
Matty Kelly [00:35:04]:
I'm up first.
Matt Every [00:35:04]:
Is leashman lager any good?
Matty Kelly [00:35:06]:
So there's two. The one in the US is different to the one in Australia. The one in Australia is like a mid strength. I wouldn't call it a light beer like you guys have over here but it's somewhere between that and a heavy beer and it is very good. You can drink the one that's brewed over just I think because a lot of people like IPAs it's a little stronger and stuff. It's not for a bit fruity, bit strong. But the one in Australia is yeah, it's really good.
Matt Every [00:35:35]:
These aren't from the internet, these are from my friends also. Sammy, which hangover hurt more, the players or the open?
Aron Price [00:35:47]:
I did hear a little mini story that I want like but maybe need a little help after the British show maybe helpful.
Sam Pinfold [00:35:55]:
Yeah, that's expected.
Aron Price [00:35:58]:
Of course.
Sam Pinfold [00:35:58]:
Greg Herman.
Aron Price [00:35:59]:
It's a badge of honor.
Sam Pinfold [00:36:01]:
Nickname is helpful. Adam scott's Caddy. He did help me home from the Old Course Hotel I was staying in that week. I don't remember much about the journey home I have seen but I had.
Matty Kelly [00:36:10]:
To helpful home that week. Earlier that week.
Matt Every [00:36:12]:
Have you seen surveillance footage?
Aron Price [00:36:14]:
These guys are a team. They are a team.
Sam Pinfold [00:36:16]:
I saw a video of myself in the Old Course Hotel and he was right. Take me home. I think I still had the bib on and the flag Hannah in my back pocket. It was a pretty surreal feeling. Well, you guys are I'll tell you about that hangover. We're being in St. Andrews. We stayed in St.
Sam Pinfold [00:36:35]:
Andrews. There was nowhere to park the car so we parked the car in Caddy parking which is alongside the driving range in St. Andrews all week. So I woke up, I mean I think at about 11:00 a.m. Flight out of Edinburgh. Woke up about 637 in the morning, beautiful St. Andrews morning and had to walk from our house to the parking lot to get the car and I mean the sun was shining. Well, I actually cut across the 18th green across the first fairway and up on the leaderboard still said congratulations, Cameron Smith, champion golfer of the year.
Matty Kelly [00:37:03]:
That's true.
Sam Pinfold [00:37:03]:
In Liverpool and I might have been better. I was talking to me mates on the phone FaceTime, I was like, look at that. And still up on the thing. So that was pretty cool to walk it across the next morning and do all mean the hangover was pretty rough but it was worth it. But we had a couple of pretty mean a couple of pretty good weeks after that. A couple of pretty good weeks off. But yeah, we won great Friday night we all went fishing as a crew. Maddie, his dad Billy Horschel was on the boat.
Sam Pinfold [00:37:28]:
We had a great time. The big party at Camp's House so there was sort of a celebration we forget for a long time.
Aron Price [00:37:32]:
Yeah, the players was little low key. I happened to be there and Sharon and that were over. So it was low key.
Matty Kelly [00:37:39]:
More expected. That one.
Aron Price [00:37:41]:
I'd say a good one. A good one.
Matty Kelly [00:37:44]:
I was always going to witness event.
Aron Price [00:37:46]:
A good one was Zurich when you guys won. Zurich when we went back and you guys had the bibs on. Still at midnight, people jumping off the roof. Jumping into the intercoastal.
Matt Every [00:37:55]:
The roof of what?
Sam Pinfold [00:37:56]:
The roof of Cam's Dock.
Matt Every [00:37:58]:
Oh, I thought you meant in New Orleans.
Sam Pinfold [00:38:01]:
We flew home that night.
Aron Price [00:38:02]:
No, they were back at, like, 07:00 p.m.. It was like 20 minutes of media straight on a plane back.
Sam Pinfold [00:38:08]:
We're lucky enough to fly with Cam fairbit on the old private jets and we flew there on the Tuesday morning.
Matt Every [00:38:17]:
You both got, like, two of the best gigs.
Sam Pinfold [00:38:19]:
We flew there on the Tuesday morning.
Aron Price [00:38:21]:
Possibly the two best.
Sam Pinfold [00:38:23]:
We said to Cam, if you boys win this week, me and Maddie will pay for the flight back.
Matt Every [00:38:27]:
No, you did.
Sam Pinfold [00:38:28]:
We still never.
Matty Kelly [00:38:30]:
And we're still not going to pay.
Sam Pinfold [00:38:32]:
He brings it up every time.
Aron Price [00:38:33]:
Credit those IOUs. Those are as good as cash.
Matt Every [00:38:39]:
For me. Every time I look at you now, dude, it's like you are in history forever.
Aron Price [00:38:45]:
The 150th Australian won the hundredth too. That's crazy. I don't know if the Australians know. Peter Thompson, who won five British Opens, he had passed away a couple of years before, but they hadn't been able to get back COVID his son sprinkled his ashes on the 18th green that morning on Sunday when Cam won.
Matt Every [00:39:06]:
Did Cam know that?
Aron Price [00:39:07]:
He didn't till after he did.
Sam Pinfold [00:39:09]:
Definitely did.
Matty Kelly [00:39:09]:
After press.
Matt Every [00:39:11]:
You're like a historian.
Matty Kelly [00:39:12]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:39:12]:
No, I'm not.
Matty Kelly [00:39:13]:
But you got the voice for it too. If that was a video, he could.
Matt Every [00:39:18]:
Over be really good at it.
Sam Pinfold [00:39:20]:
Narrate.
Aron Price [00:39:20]:
It Tom Selleck.
Matt Every [00:39:22]:
You are Tom Selleck by now. Ball of sex over there.
Aron Price [00:39:28]:
Head like a half Jude Minty.
Matt Every [00:39:31]:
We got anything else? You guys got anything else?
Aron Price [00:39:34]:
Well, okay, I got one little nugget for Pina. People may not know about Pina. Pina. Different road to Maddie, as we spoke about, best buddies with Leash came over as a holiday and of course, Leash was talented. Two quick stories, but the Pina one, people don't know who Pina has caddy for. Pina did caddy for Justin Thomas when he first came out.
Matt Every [00:39:55]:
Did he really?
Sam Pinfold [00:39:56]:
That is correct, yeah.
Matt Every [00:39:58]:
Good trade.
Aron Price [00:40:00]:
And the story of Maddie is how Leash got his card. We had played all year, Midlands, normally, later in the year, September, October, leash wasn't doing he wasn't terrible, but I would guess he was 50th on the money list.
Matty Kelly [00:40:13]:
He's going to keep his card. Yeah.
Aron Price [00:40:15]:
We had two weeks off, maybe. One week off, maybe. Leash took another one. Two weeks, comes back. The story is, I don't know if it's true, is the zippers didn't get pulled back when he was in Australia for two weeks, comes over, unzips them, wins by actually, I think, like, bogey two of the last three to win by nine or ten.
Matty Kelly [00:40:33]:
He bogeyed both the last two holes.
Aron Price [00:40:36]:
To win by eleven at Midland. And that was enough to wrap his car.
Sam Pinfold [00:40:40]:
Yeah.
Matty Kelly [00:40:41]:
Finished second in Salt Lake City a week or two before and then won by eleven. And that pretty much locked up that night.
Aron Price [00:40:47]:
Hold on, you do remember that year? Because I finished third that year. That was enough to get my card. Same year. And we got delayed at Dallas Airport. We missed our connection. We stayed in a room together. I didn't sleep for two nights. I was like, finally going to the tour or whatever.
Aron Price [00:41:01]:
A room with you. I had a Valium and I still couldn't sleep.
Matty Kelly [00:41:07]:
Unbelievable historian.
Aron Price [00:41:09]:
See, my memory actually sucks, but I can remember the OD thing. I'm not going to remember that. And in the end, I still didn't have my card. I played pretty well the next five.
Matty Kelly [00:41:19]:
Weeks, and I will say, looking back on it, I mean, Leash finished, I think, 11th at Tour school and he finished 19th. Sorry. At the Miami, the last Tour championship event, finished 11th and he got his car, but he was 19th out of the 25.
Aron Price [00:41:35]:
So there was I was 18th. We were locked, but we weren't. Yeah, all these people from behind us started playing good. It was nuts. Stressful. Leash went on to make tons. I made 1%. Of what? Leash actually not that good.
Matt Every [00:41:51]:
You're climbing the ranks now, dude. Climbing the ranks.
Aron Price [00:41:55]:
I'm pretending.
Sam Pinfold [00:41:56]:
Real estate mogul.
Matt Every [00:41:57]:
He would have probably finished about 89th on the FedEx this year.
Matty Kelly [00:42:00]:
Penn is top ten this year on the FedEx.
Matt Every [00:42:02]:
I love that. God. How good is it? How good is it when your guy $4 million every other week?
Aron Price [00:42:09]:
It is a bit unfair when the golf Dojas come out with like, who weren't what this year, that they don't include caddies. Right, because they should.
Matt Every [00:42:15]:
I mean, if Cam wakes up, he's finishing twelveTH or better out there. Right.
Sam Pinfold [00:42:21]:
I think we're still sleeping last week then.
Matt Every [00:42:23]:
Oh, really? What did you finish?
Sam Pinfold [00:42:24]:
40Th.
Aron Price [00:42:25]:
What?
Sam Pinfold [00:42:25]:
Yeah, tough week going on.
Matt Every [00:42:28]:
Did you piss him off, Preston?
Sam Pinfold [00:42:30]:
Five weeks off, bit rusty, probably.
Matty Kelly [00:42:33]:
He's got 18 million to win next week in Jetta.
Sam Pinfold [00:42:35]:
We'll be right.
Aron Price [00:42:35]:
Is that what he has?
Matty Kelly [00:42:36]:
A bit of an individual win?
Aron Price [00:42:37]:
A bit more of a game on now.
Matt Every [00:42:38]:
Wait, an individual wins 18 mil, it's.
Matty Kelly [00:42:41]:
The end of season thing. Yeah.
Matt Every [00:42:43]:
Wow.
Matty Kelly [00:42:44]:
Yeah. The win is 18, I think the second twelve.
Matt Every [00:42:46]:
When is the relegation going to start.
Matty Kelly [00:42:48]:
Kicking in out there next, jetta.
Matt Every [00:42:51]:
Who's getting the boot right now? Majestics.
Matty Kelly [00:42:55]:
No, it's not team, it's the bottom four individual. Yeah. And then there's talk about a play in tournament and all this sort of stuff, which they're still trying to finalize everything, but then you'll have three new guys come up and then the season long international series winner will get the spot. So four in four out and then.
Matt Every [00:43:14]:
Best live concert so far, fisher, Australia. Okay, other than him.
Aron Price [00:43:18]:
And he's playing Miami, right?
Matt Every [00:43:20]:
Other than him, the Zach Brown band.
Sam Pinfold [00:43:23]:
At Greenbriar was pretty good. Yeah, they were pretty good.
Matt Every [00:43:26]:
Didn't the Saudis have a concert? Who was down there last year?
Aron Price [00:43:30]:
Oh, that was there.
Matt Every [00:43:31]:
Who was it?
Aron Price [00:43:33]:
Shaggy.
Matt Every [00:43:34]:
Shaggy.
Aron Price [00:43:35]:
I'm going to tell this story. I tell this story.
Sam Pinfold [00:43:38]:
Aaron was the only one of the whole team.
Aron Price [00:43:42]:
I flew in.
Matt Every [00:43:43]:
You guys didn't go to that with him?
Aron Price [00:43:45]:
Quick story. Matt Jones texted me on the Saturday. He's like, hey, my caddy has to have eye surgery back in the States. Can you get over it? And I was like, all right. So I got there Monday night, maybe midnight, go out. We had that practice round. It was so hot.
Matty Kelly [00:43:59]:
The hottest I've ever been.
Aron Price [00:44:00]:
It's hotter in Saudi in 09:00 A.m. Than it is at 03:00 P.m.. It's just bullshit hot.
Sam Pinfold [00:44:05]:
Yeah.
Aron Price [00:44:05]:
So I go back, relax, and then Brian Aussie, brian's like, hey, come to the boat for a few beers. Sure.
Matt Every [00:44:10]:
Which boat?
Aron Price [00:44:11]:
There's a boat just parked off.
Sam Pinfold [00:44:13]:
The only way to drink the owner's.
Matty Kelly [00:44:14]:
Boat the only way you can get.
Matt Every [00:44:17]:
That's why I said, which boat?
Aron Price [00:44:19]:
It's in international water.
Matt Every [00:44:20]:
The left one or the right one?
Sam Pinfold [00:44:22]:
Not the one that's floating off out at sea.
Aron Price [00:44:25]:
So we go on. I have three beers. I'm tired. And I was like, all, I'm going to hit the head. And he's like, oh, you got to stay. Now Shaggy's about to do a concert. And I was like, you're a fucking idiot. I'm telling you.
Aron Price [00:44:37]:
They just got a text. The Shaggy's going to I was like, I'll bet you whatever he goes, have one more beer. And if he's not, I'll give you $100. So have a half a beer, Shaggy. And the little guy that does the choruses or the verses is there with him, too. And he gets up. There's probably 50 people on this boat, and Shaggy just starts busting out. It wasn't me.
Matt Every [00:44:55]:
No way.
Aron Price [00:44:56]:
Mr. Lava. Lava. It was unbelievable. I tell you who was enjoying that, is Graham McDowell's trainer buddy. He was enjoying that.
Matt Every [00:45:08]:
Any players enjoying it?
Aron Price [00:45:11]:
DJ. Was there. And Korak. But no, it was like it was all tame. That thing's. Very tame.
Matty Kelly [00:45:17]:
Yeah.
Matt Every [00:45:18]:
Who's the most hated team out there? You don't have to answer it. You don't have to answer it.
Matty Kelly [00:45:23]:
We got to answer. Well, I think hated is probably the wrong word. But like, jealous would be like four aces. You just want to beat them because they're the best. They've won.
Matt Every [00:45:33]:
That brute American power.
Matty Kelly [00:45:37]:
You want to beat those Americans and talk aid, they've won. Now, four events.
Matt Every [00:45:42]:
Is it torque?
Matty Kelly [00:45:44]:
I would say it talk, but they keep saying torque. So I would have say that. Yeah.
Sam Pinfold [00:45:47]:
I think the way they want to pronounce it.
Matty Kelly [00:45:48]:
But you don't have that same hatred. Not hatred, but you don't have that same thing towards them because they haven't won the whole thing yet. So I would say four ace is more of jealousy probably than anything else. I just want to beat them.
Aron Price [00:45:58]:
I actually do love when Arlo White says, the crochets.
Matt Every [00:46:01]:
The crochets so good.
Aron Price [00:46:03]:
He's so great in Ted Lassa. You can't not like that guy.
Sam Pinfold [00:46:06]:
Last year, that team event in Miami and the one that's coming up in a few weeks, the way they did it with two singles matches and a four Sims match was I mean, it was you just got to win two points and you go on. If you're not you're knocked out. It was awesome.
Aron Price [00:46:20]:
Same format this year. Same format.
Matty Kelly [00:46:22]:
And the play captains have to play each other.
Sam Pinfold [00:46:25]:
Yeah, it was so cool. Just what a way to play. You need two points, you need two wins out of the three and you're through.
Aron Price [00:46:30]:
And the other teams, yeah, Jonesy and Wade were playing best ball.
Sam Pinfold [00:46:33]:
It was awesome.
Aron Price [00:46:34]:
That was good. That was fun to watch.
Matt Every [00:46:37]:
So Cam has to play cam has to play singles.
Matty Kelly [00:46:40]:
Yeah.
Sam Pinfold [00:46:40]:
The captains play the captains no matter what.
Matty Kelly [00:46:41]:
And then we'll wait and see after that. We're going to let it team strategy.
Sam Pinfold [00:46:45]:
We'll keep that secret last year, might throw a little spanner in the works this year. We'll see.
Matt Every [00:46:52]:
Is there strategy behind it? Like, do you send out the guy that's chopping? If you got a guy that's chopping on your team, do you send him in?
Sam Pinfold [00:46:58]:
The last year was pretty clear because Jonesy and Wade played the same ball. So they went out in the foursomes and they did a good job. But it's just so mean.
Matt Every [00:47:11]:
Golf's such a weird game. I mean, even if you're.
Sam Pinfold [00:47:18]:
I mean, we were on this Saturday to get into the final day. We played Sergio and I think we're two down with three to go. But the position we were on the third last tee, we knew leash was one up playing this par three and then we could see him tee off the next tee. We saw him tee off still with the honor, so with fist pumping that he was still one up. And then we knew Jonesy and Wade were heading down this par four, think one up or square? And so we knew if we saw them coming back that they won the match. And that was the two points locked in, basically. And, I mean, we cam hit the tee shot on one hole and all we're doing was staring back down the other way to see if we can see that. When we saw them come back up over the hill and we were fist pumping and cartwheeling down the stairway, match didn't matter.
Sam Pinfold [00:47:56]:
We were through. It was great. It's much like a prisons cup or a Ryder Cup, I guess, when you worry about the team so those matches can't tie no ties.
Matt Every [00:48:05]:
I love that is that when didn't Cam beat Phil in that last year?
Sam Pinfold [00:48:09]:
Yeah, we beat one up on the first day.
Aron Price [00:48:13]:
Phil was like, I swear that was an interesting time. That guy was defeated on the first. Like, he loves Cam. He's like, maybe he's trying to play reverse psychology. Phil plays games. But that was interesting. I was like, pretty good at when he has a b in his bonnet. And I don't know if Phil was, but he doesn't like to lose.
Matty Kelly [00:48:34]:
Leisha actually talked about that last week because Cam had, like, 10ft to win. And he's like, how good is it sitting down knowing Cam Smith has 10ft to win? There's nothing to worry about. It's nothing like, I've never been more sure of anything in my life. Dude.
Matt Every [00:48:51]:
Yes. The back nine at St. Andrews. I never once thought he was going to miss that putt on 17 for par. Never once.
Aron Price [00:48:58]:
But in saying that, he putted poorly on Saturday, yeah, he has his days.
Sam Pinfold [00:49:03]:
But I mean, more often than he's a great putter.
Aron Price [00:49:07]:
And the bigger the occasion, it seems, he seems to lock in even more.
Sam Pinfold [00:49:10]:
He is alhance is one of his biggest. He grows a massive set of balls under the pump, unlike a lot of guys who maybe shy away and use any excuse they can. I'd rather see know tide going down, last hole, one up, going down, last hole than two or three or five starting a day. He just loves the fight.
Aron Price [00:49:26]:
He's a bulldog and he's not going to come out. And no offense to people that are there, like Pat Prezzo, you're not going to hear it. He's very inwardly confident and doesn't use a mask of sort of insecurity to tell people how good he is.
Matty Kelly [00:49:39]:
Leash has been that way. We've often talked about it with the one or two sports Psychs he's used, but it's like, how do we get leash's best? Golf comes when it matters most. Like, the best shot he'll hit for the week would be coming down the 72nd hole when he needs to make birdie. It's like, how do you get as close to that Thursday morning or Friday morning so hard? That started contrived or not fake, but yeah, it's way harder than it that.
Aron Price [00:50:07]:
Started nine to get into the Tour Championship. Yeah, he needed to do that and he did it well.
Matty Kelly [00:50:12]:
Like, this weekend just gone. We finishing on the first hole, which is a short par four in middle of fairway, and we thought he had to hold a wedge shot. And he hits this shot that goes one bounce and he got within half a foot of the hole and then spun back down. But it's like, in the air. It was like, oh, my gosh, that thing looks so good.
Aron Price [00:50:29]:
A lot of similarities between those two boys.
Matt Every [00:50:32]:
When I earlier said you got two great gigs, you really do. I mean, you got two world class players. And they don't live at the golf course.
Matty Kelly [00:50:39]:
No, that's right.
Sam Pinfold [00:50:41]:
Two of the best blokes. Two of the most great dudes.
Matty Kelly [00:50:44]:
Yeah.
Sam Pinfold [00:50:45]:
And then once it's all done, everything for the day, they just want to crack a beer and have a yarn and don't drag anything from the golf course from the day.
Matt Every [00:50:51]:
How nice is that?
Sam Pinfold [00:50:52]:
It's amazing. It gives you more confidence, do your job better the next day.
Matt Every [00:50:55]:
Yeah, for sure.
Aron Price [00:50:56]:
A little different from an LPGA bag. Not wearing out the range, that's for sure. Good.
Matt Every [00:51:04]:
I got nothing on that. All right.
Aron Price [00:51:07]:
I was trying to provoke. Didn't work.
Matt Every [00:51:09]:
Yeah. Thanks for coming in, guys. That was awesome. Hey, come in more when you're back in town. I know you're leaving in October. You'll be around. You come in whenever you want. Doors open, dude.
Matty Kelly [00:51:19]:
Love to.
Matt Every [00:51:19]:
All right.
Sam Pinfold [00:51:20]:
Thank you.
Matt Every [00:51:20]:
You think Cam can, for real get me a spot in the Australian Open?
Sam Pinfold [00:51:23]:
Probably, if he can't. Aaron Price, can you be in a marquee peering?
Matty Kelly [00:51:30]:
They might give you the trophy now.
Aron Price [00:51:32]:
I'm just hoping they'll let me in in December when I come back with my kids.
Matt Every [00:51:37]:
They will.
Aron Price [00:51:38]:
I'm chopped liver over your recipe.
Matty Kelly [00:51:40]:
Cam Smith.
