So let’s start with……

#StressAwarenessMonth raising awareness of the causes and cures for our modern-day stress epidemic. It is the time when we have an opportunity for an open conversation on the impact of stress.

The Stress Management Society is encouraging you to look deeper into what actions you can take to create a change in your personal and professional life. One way is to take part in their 30-Day Challenge and pick one action each for your physical, mental and emotional well-being to carry out every day of the month. Other things you can do are share your own coping mechanisms and what has worked for you.

For more information about the 30-Day Challenge and to test your stress levels online visit stress.org.uk.

Next up is………

#WorldAutismAcceptanceDay on 2nd April when major events are being held around the world raising the profile of autism and highlighting the need to improve the quality of life of those with autism so they can reach their potential. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Whether you have autism, love someone who does, or are looking to support a diverse, accepting and kind community – you’re invited to share your story, donate or support a local autism charities initiative.

This leads me nicely to our guests today from Autism Guernsey who, along with the GSPCA, are bringing to our islands a special Guernsey community event the ‘Puffin Parade’ highlighting the essential work of and raising much-needed funds for both charities. Welcome Mandy Rowlinson and Faye Pedersen, thanks for talking with me today.

Mandy, you are the Office and Fundraising Manager of Autism Guernsey, can you tell us more about the charity, who it supports and how?

60 puffins have been decorated by local artists, clubs and community groups, schools, charities and day centres and will be on display at various locations around Guernsey including businesses, schools, local attractions and places of interest, churches, restaurants and local landmarks.

Faye, you are one of the charity volunteers, why did you volunteer?

I believe a downloadable version of the Puffin Parade Map will be available online to help people plan out their trip along the parade. Mandy, can you tell me more about the app that will be launched and the competition people can participate in?

I believe the puffins will be auctioned off in September to raise funds for both Autism Guernsey and GSPCA. Mandy, how do people get involved with the auction if they want to own their very own decorated puffin?

If anyone locally wishes to find out more about the Puffin Parade, download the digital map at puffinparade.org.gg or visit their Facebook page, The Guernsey Puffin Parade.
