Hi, you’re listening to the Stress-Free Social Media Podcast. I’m Nicole Bromley, Digital Consultant at Copper in Guernsey, and I love helping businesses like yours flourish online and get rid of social media overwhelm.

In today’s episode of the Stress-Free Social Media Podcast, I will be sharing with you nine June dates to get you all fired up and talking with Bella Farrell from Health Connections on #VolunteersWeek and how the charity utilises its own volunteers and how their online directory supports other Guernsey charities using, and looking for, volunteers.

With each awareness day think about how it might be relevant to your business, your clients and the problems that you are solving with your products and services.

So let’s start with……

#SandsAwarenessMonth run by the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity raising awareness of the facts and impacts relating to neonatal deaths and stillbirths. During the month Sands are encouraging people to celebrate the impact of the emotional and physical connections they may have made within and beyond the Sands community through our values and beliefs. Some of the most powerful connections are made when we are brought together and supported through shared experiences. Through all these different experiences, one connection remains, our precious and loved babies.

This June, they want to hear about what brought you to Sands, celebrate the connections you have made in the Sands community and the difference they have made to you and help you to connect with others.

Here are some of the ways you’ll be able to connect:

  • Take and share their survey for bereaved parents
  • Use their resources to tag those you’re connected to on social media using #MySandsConnection
  • Share your story and connection to Sands
  • Attend a Sands Garden Day
  • Fundraise with family and friends
  • Donate to support their work
  • Become a volunteer and bring your community together
  • Order and send a Father’s Day card to let someone know you’re thinking of them

Next up is………

#PrideMonth dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQ voices, a celebration of LGBTQ culture and the support of LGBTQ rights. June was chosen because it is when the Stonewall Riots took place, way back in 1969. Parades are a prominent feature of Pride month, and there are many street parties, community events, poetry readings, public speaking, street festivals and educational sessions all of which are covered by mainstream media and attracting millions of participants. Pride Month marks the start of huge change within the LGBT+ community, as well as the wider societal implications. Although attitudes and injustice still remain, we have come a long way since the riots of 1969 and by continuing in this long-standing tradition we continue to raise awareness, improve the attitudes of society and encourage inclusiveness. Share your activities using #Pride2023.

Next up is………

#VolunteersWeek from 1st to 7th June celebrating the fantastic contribution people make through giving up their time and volunteering in their communities. Whether you’re part of a voluntary organisation or a volunteer yourself, visit volunteersweek.org for ideas on how to make your week as great as possible and download free resources and templates. Use #VolunteersWeek to share your tweets, stories and messages of thanks.

This leads me nicely to our guest today Bella Farrell, CEO of Health Connections LBG. Welcome Bella, thanks for talking with me today.

Next up is……….

#CarersWeek from 5th to 11th June raising awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face and recognising the contribution they make to families and communities. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is. Visit carersweek.org for more information, resources and downloads.

Next up is……….

#WorldOceanDay on 8th celebrating the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspiring action to protect. The conservation action focus 30x30 aims to protect at least 30% of our lands, waters and ocean by 2030. To create a healthy ocean with abundant wildlife and to stabilize the climate, it’s critical that 30% of our planet’s lands, waters, and ocean are protected. Visit worldoceanday.org for more information on how you can take action and submit your event. One ocean, one climate, one future - together.

Next up is……….

#MensHealthWeek from 12th to 18th June, an important opportunity to highlight the importance of men's health, and to promote and support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our communities. Men's Health Week focuses on not just physical health, but also men's mental health and emotional wellbeing. The week is designed to provoke thought and discussion about what needs to be done to improve male health. This year the Men’s Health Forum are looking at men’s health and the internet. For more information and to sign up visit menshealthforum.org.uk.

Next up is……….

#FathersDay on 18th celebrating the father/father figure. This is perfect if you sell cards, gifts, experiences or are in the hospitality industry. If you are stuck for ideas you could run a Father's Day competition (abiding by the social media platform’s competition rules), share a Father's Day gift guide, highlight your father, highlight the fathers in your company, share a Father's Day quote, get personal about fatherhood for you or highlight a Father's Day event.

Next up is……….

#WorldWellbeingWeek in its fifth year from 26th June to 2nd July celebrating the many aspects of wellbeing, from meaningful, purposeful work to financial security, physical, mental and emotional health, community relations and care for the environment. 2023 will be a time to rejoice. A time to travel once again, to reconnect with friends and family, and to bring work colleagues closer together united in their aims and aspirations for the future. Share your activities throughout the week on social media using #worldwellbeingweek. For more information and to subscribe to The WellBeing Reimagined Toolkit visit wellbeingworld.je.

That’s nearly it, but I’ve just got one more awareness day to finish with……….

#SocialMediaDay on 30th June celebrating all the great relationships you have built on social media. There’s one main tradition that is observed on Social Media Day and that is, of course, posting about it on social media. Many people upload photos or stories that reflect the role that social media has played in their lives. Others choose to repost their favourite uploads from the past and generally it is a chance for people to share some love online. Many websites use Social Media Day as an opportunity to compile lists of some of their favourite social media moments. If you have a spare 20 minutes or so it is well worth your time to find some of these lists and enjoy some of the funniest, most viral social media posts knocking around like The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge or the Worldwide Breast Cancer’s #KnowYourLemons campaign.

And that’s it for June content ideas! Thanks so much for listening.

If you post content having listened to this, let us know in the comments and keep an eye out for our July Awareness Dates next month.

Happy post-creating.
