Next up is………
#RestartaHeartDay on 16th October led by Resuscitation Council UK in partnership with the British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, St John Ambulance and alliance of ambulance services.
In 2017 the initiative went global with the formation of World Restart a Heart Day which takes place on 16th October every year with health organisations from all over the world working together to increase public awareness of cardiac arrests and increase the number of people trained in life-saving CPR. They do this by organising and facilitating training events and by providing opportunities for people to learn CPR and defibrillation.
It’s so important to learn these skills because when someone collapses and stops breathing normally, it is important to quickly call 999, perform hands-only CPR and use a defibrillator (AED). Anyone can be affected by a cardiac arrest at any time and without intervention, the person will quickly die.
To learn more about Restart a Heart Day you can download the digital communication pack and a training provider pack from the Resuscitation Council UK website www.resus.org.uk.
This leads me nicely to our guests today Gerry Le Roy and Mike Froome from the Guernsey Cardiac Action Group who together with professional ambulance staff and volunteers from St John’s Ambulance will be giving Islanders the opportunity to learn these life-saving skills at free CPR and AED demonstrations at venues around Guernsey during Restart a Heart Week from 16th to 21st October.
Welcome both of you and thanks for talking with me today.

Professionals and women are being encouraged to participate in this global awareness raising campaign by printing and sharing these materials, organising events to engage their communities, and sharing World Menopause Day social media posts. This year’s theme is ‘Cardiovascular Disease’. For more information and an engagement toolkit including social media assets visit the International Menopause Society website imsociety.org.
Next up is………
#RecycleWeek from 16th to 22nd October celebrating recycling and encouraging both consumers and businesses to reduce waste and recycle more. This year's theme ‘The Big Recycling Hunt’ is focusing on missed capture: the items that can be recycled but are commonly missed in the home.
This year Recycle Week is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will be inspiring children, families and whole communities to get involved. The campaign will have two distinct elements: firstly for schools – encouraging children to partake in fun activities throughout Recycle Week, plus a focus on local authorities, partners and brands to share the central message.
To sign up for the Action Pack to receive all the latest information and details on how you can take part and access the campaign toolkit, visit recyclenow.com.
That’s nearly it, but I’ve just got one more awareness day to finish with……….
