So July is #PlasticFreeJuly, an initiative by the Plastic Free Foundation to raise awareness about plastic pollution and encourage the reduction in plastic use. It focuses on educating the public and promoting sustainable alternatives.
Here are some ideas on how to honour plastic-free week on social media:
Post facts and articles about plastic pollution using #PlasticFreeJuly, highlight eco-friendly products like reusable bags and bottles, encourage followers to take a plastic-free challenge and share tips, share information about local clean-ups and workshops, support and share content from environmental groups, boost visibility with hashtags like #PlasticFreeMonth and #BeatPlasticPollution, inspire others with your journey towards reducing plastic use and promote and contribute to anti-plastic pollution campaigns.
Participate actively to spread awareness and inspire sustainable actions for a cleaner environment. Every small effort counts! For ideas, resources and the Changemaker toolkit visit plasticfreejuly.org.
This leads me nicely to our guest today Helen Young from Plastic Free Guernsey.
Welcome Helen, thanks for talking with me today.

Mid break:

Next up is……….
#WorldEmojiDay on 17th July celebrating emojis and their use to express the sentiment behind messages when they can quite often otherwise be lost. This is particularly important if you sell emoji-themed products including jewellery, clothing, games and food. If you are using emojis today or any day on social media it’s best to keep them accessible, double-check the meaning behind them, use ones that match your brand, don’t use them as full stops and don’t use them instead of a word.
Next up is……….
#TalkToUsMonth and #SamaritansAwarenessDay on 24th July raising awareness that Samaritans are here to listen to anyone who's struggling to cope, at any time of the day or night. They are encouraging people to get involved by sharing their suggested social media messages, alongside the downloadable assets, throughout July using #SamaritansAwarenessDay and #TalkToUs to help raise awareness. For more information visit samaritans.org.
Next up is……….
#InternationalSelfCareDay on 24th July marking the start of #SelfCareMonth, which ends on 24 July. This symbolic day was chosen because self-care can be practised 24 hours a day/7 days a week. These observances encourage activities that rejuvenate and nourish the body and mind, such as exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness, and rest. Social media is a powerful tool to promote self-care. Share your self-care routines and use hashtags like #SelfCareDay and #SelfCareMonth. Post tips, resources, and engage with online communities to support and inspire others. Highlight events, start challenges, and encourage daily self-care practices, fostering a culture of well-being for everyone.
That’s nearly it, but I’ve just got one more awareness day to finish with……….
#WorldFriendshipDay on 30th July promoting the idea of sharing the human spirit through friendship. This topic has massive leverage from using the day to promote friendship accessories, buy one get one free for your friend, staying healthy with friends, adventure experiences with friends, to sharing with friends. But remember to keep the theme of your posts on-brand in tone.
And that’s it for July content ideas! Thanks so much for listening.
