This episode of Defeating Can’t reconnects with Austrian adventurer Stefan Garr, now more than 18 months into a self-supported bicycle journey around the world. Since we last spoke, Stefan has crossed Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand before arriving in Santiago, Chile to begin the next chapter of his adventure across South America.

What makes this leg of the journey especially meaningful is that Stefan is no longer riding alone. His father, Klaus, took a one-year sabbatical from his tech career to join him on the road. After reuniting in Chile, the two set out together with fully loaded touring bikes, fresh gear, and a shared desire to experience the world one pedal stroke at a time.

Their route has already taken them over rugged Andes passes, through fierce headwinds, and across long stretches of remote dirt roads. Along the way, they share stories of a summit attempt turned back by snow, unexpected radio interviews, friendly dogs in Argentina, and the daily rhythm of covering roughly 65 miles while carrying everything they need to survive.

But this conversation is about much more than cycling. It's about family, perspective, resilience, and the powerful reminder that adventure has no age limit. Stefan and Klaus discuss what motivates them to keep moving forward, how endurance changes with experience, and why some of life's greatest memories are found beyond comfort and certainty.

As they continue toward Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, the Uyuni Salt Flats, and Machu Picchu, their story serves as a reminder that growth often begins where the easy road ends.

Whether you're training for your own adventure, pursuing a dream that feels out of reach, or simply looking for inspiration to keep moving forward, this episode captures what the CAN. mindset is all about.

Because CAN'T isn't an option.

Welcome back to the Defeating Camp podcast. A few months ago, we caught up with Austrian adventurer Stefan Garr as he pedaled his bicycle across Asia solo, self-supported on a journey around the world. Since then, the journey has only grown. Stefan has crossed Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and is now deep into South America after more than a year and a half on the road.
But what makes this, but what makes this chapter especially unique is that he's no longer riding solo. Joining him is his father, Klaus, my old teammate and great friend, who took a year-long sabbatical from work in Austria to ride along his son-- who took a year-long sabbatical from work in Austria to ride alongside his son across South America and further.
Together, they're tackling mountain passes in the Andes. Together, they're tackling mountain passes in the Andes, navigating remote roads, battling headwinds, and experiencing the freedom that comes with carrying everything you need on two wheels.  isn't about racing.

isn't about racing. It's about adventure. It's about seeing the world at bicycle speed. It's about discovering what happens when you slow down, embrace uncertainty, and commit to something that most people only dream of.
For anyone training out there, cycling, adventuring, for anyone out there on their own cycling adventure, planning a bikepacking trip, dreaming about retirement travel, or simply wondering what's possible when you step outside your comfort zone, this conversation is packed with lessons and inspiration and a lot of fun.

Over the last couple of years, I stepped back from Can a Lot to work hard on spending time with my father before he passed. That time together is something I'll always cherish, which is one reason Claus and Stefan's story resonates so deeply with me.

 Klaus: That's the Can Men.
Andy: I love it, the Can Men. Love it. How you guys doing?
Klaus: Pretty good. Well, we have to, uh, do some recovery because we rode four days straight, you know, averaging, like, 65 miles.
 Andy: Okay.
Klaus: But, you know- Ho- hold on ... it's like- Yeah ... With freaking headwinds, dude. This headwind with this, with this package- Recording in progress ... it's like, uh, you're putting up a sail, but you're going against, you know-
Andy: Yeah ... the wind. Yeah, yeah. So, um- It's fucking intense ... okay, so I... It's recording. One second.
 Just a little tech-
 Klaus: Yeah,
Andy: yeah ... tech stuff. Um-
 Klaus: Please. No worries ...
Andy: I am recording the audio. But- I'm trying to record the Zoom. Um, it'll probably- And that's the way to do ... end up being an audio, but, um, at least I'll have the recording. Does it show it's recording on your end?
 Klaus: Yeah,
Andy: yeah. Okay, so good, good. Um-
Klaus: I have to be aware what I say.
Andy: No, it's all good. I want to... I'll edit it and then it'll take me a little t- little bit of time. Yeah. But, uh-
Klaus: Cut out the beep, beep, beep.
 Andy: So, um-
 Klaus: No, that's
Andy: okay ... okay, sli- slide over. I gotta I gotta see my boys.
 Klaus: Cool,
Andy: brother. Stefan, there you go. There you go. That's better. Fucking guys together, you look great.
 Well-
Klaus: Okay, dude, we are, we are riding like [00:02:00] maniacs. Are
 Andy: you? Yeah?
Klaus: This, the last month, uh, I just looked it up because- Yeah  1,300 kilometers, you know?
 Andy: Wow,
Klaus: okay. From Santiago until here.
 Andy: Okay. And, um-
 Klaus: It's a... Phew ... one
Andy: second. I'm gonna ask a bunch of questions. We're just gonna warm up. Hold on. Let me start this to...
Got all the tech- One, two. One, two ... all the tech- Test, test ... all the tests going. You can hear me. I can hear you. I haven't done a- Testing, testing ... I haven't done a podcast in a little while, so.
 Klaus: Yeah,
Andy: no worries. Um, okay, so, um, I'll do, like a summary on my own. Um, but I, I wanted to kind of start off with that with you guys, um, and start off with Stefan.
Just w- what, what, uh, what's been going on with you and how this all came together and.. Wow, . So maybe we could start, um, you left Asia and then directly to Latin America, Central America?
Stefan: No, I went to Australia first, so- Oh, that's
 Andy: right, Australia ... I, I- Okay.
Stefan: Yeah. A- after we talked- That's right ... I went f- to Japan afterwards- Okay
after Korea. Yeah. Then from Korea to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and then I rode to Bali. Yeah. And then from Bali I flew to Perth.
 Andy: Yeah.
Stefan: Then cycled across to Nullarbor until Melbourne, and then from Melbourne I went to Queenstown, New Zealand, and then cycled up to Auckland.
Andy: Unbelievable. And then, okay, so what, what time of the year was that, that you left Australia?
 Stefan: beginning of April.
Andy: Okay. I think. Beginning of April.
Stefan: Yeah, so it wa- it was like, uh, autumn down there, so- Okay ... beginning, starting to become winter.
Andy: And, and you traveled to where?
 Stefan: New Zealand.
Andy: Okay, New Zealand. And then after New Zealand is when you ended up in, uh, not in Chile, right? Where did you start? Yes. Yeah, Chile?
 Stefan: Yeah, in Santiago.
Andy: So you've been... Okay, so when did you arrive in Santiago?
 Stefan: On the 10th.
Andy: Oh, okay. Recently. All right, awesome of April. So then, uh, all right, so then Dad, uh, which is, uh, my good friend Klaus here, uh, I raced bikes with [00:03:00] Klaus for many years, uh  in the States.
They're both from Austria. And, um, so obviously phenomenal athlete. The two of them are, like, this incredible pair of, like, adventurers. That's why I put that design together is I love the idea of these two just, um, crushing, you know, giant adventures and obstacles and things, and this is the most epic thing ever to be riding your bikes around the world with packs and all the gear.
So, uh, Klaus, you decided to take a year off. Uh, Stefan's already been, Stefan's already been on the road for a year. You decided to take a year off from work, right?
Klaus: Mm-hmm. And- Stefan already, he started in October 2024, so he's already a year and a half out,  yep, yep, yeah. Unbelievable.
 And then- Yeah
yeah, when he left, I had this idea, you know, I would like to join it, and then I, I asked the company, you know, w- about the sabbatical plan.
And there's a maximum of, uh, one year that you can take, but you have to save that up, you know? So we, when, during the time Stefan was riding, this one and a half years, I saved up the time now for a year off, amazing. So it was a [00:04:00] perfect- Yeah. Yeah, that was- I mean, it was perfect planning. It's just- So
 Andy: amazing.
Klaus: Yeah ... really was in- incredible. So I saved that, and then I, I left Austria on, um, April 7.
 Andy: Okay.
 Klaus: Flew to San Diego.
And then I waited for Stefan there, and that's where we started riding together.
Andy: That's amazing. First off, I, I have to, uh, commend Austria. We have sabbaticals, but it's called getting fired or quitting. That's how we do it. They don't give you a year off to
Klaus: go on an adventure. No, no, no. This is a different thing to save up for that. Yeah. You save up. Yeah, yeah.
 Andy: Well,
Klaus: and so, um- Yeah, this is, it's really cool.
So- Yeah. Yeah ... Because, because you s- you, you get- Yeah ... uh, less, uh, salary during that saving up period.
 Andy: Oh, okay. Brilliant.
Klaus: But then you have the same salary throughout th- that year, you know? Oh,
 Andy: that's super awesome. Okay.
Klaus: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Well, this is a, this is, for something like that, it's perfect,  yeah, brilliant. Because you, you know that even though you're not, uh, spending that much money, that accumulates, you know?
Andy:  Yeah. So you have to- Chance of a lifetime that, that you get to do- Oh ... something like this, so.
 Klaus: Absolutely,
Andy: yeah. Uh, and, um- You're a gaming design, you're, uh  you're in tech. Uh, [00:05:00] you're not like uber wealthy, super rich people.
You just put this idea together, save your money- Mm-hmm. Exactly, yeah ... came up with this plan and you'll be back at work in a year.
Klaus: Yeah, yeah. I have, uh, my next- Yeah ... working day is April 1st- yeah ... 2027.
Andy: And I- So that's- Yeah. I- That
 Klaus: sounds pretty nice, though,
Andy: you know? Like- Yeah, it does sound pretty nice.
 Like, we have to... I
 Klaus: still have,
 Andy: I- Yeah ...
Klaus: I still have a year.
Andy: Well, all, all of your old teammates are retiring right now, and I'm getting pretty jealous. Uh, but- ... I still have a lot to do. Um, so I'm wondering i- if, um, if Stefan's gonna ever go back to work, 'cause I'm guessing your mindset is... Are you loving the whole adventure still, or how are you feeling about everything?
Stefan: Yeah. Uh, I mean, I enjoy it, but I'm also looking forward to, uh, going back home-
 Andy: Civilization ... meeting
Stefan: up with my friend- friends again.
Andy: Yeah. Yeah. Uh, I, I bet it was m- the most- ... wonderful feeling. Um, did you pick up dad at the airport, or where, where did you guys connect? Where did that all happen, the reunion?
Klaus: Uh, at the Airbnb. Okay. I just took an Uber and then- You
 Andy: just cruised
 Klaus: in
 Andy: and-
Klaus: Yeah. Yeah, I had a... We had a really [00:06:00] cool, uh, Airbnb at, uh, an apartment at- Okay ... the 32nd floor of a, of a building, you know? So you- Wow ... could oversee Santiago- Oh, that's beautiful ... and face... I sent you a picture, you know, where we had the- I know.
Yeah, yeah, yeah ... with the sunset from the Andes. Yeah. That's what I was facing- That was from there. Okay ... every, every morning. It was incredible. Yeah. So we stayed there, and I added three more nights before we, uh, left Santiago, you know? Okay. Just to, you know- Yeah ... hang out a little bit and- Yeah, yeah ... chill, you know, look at- Reconnect
I lo- you know, a little need to look at some bike parts because Stephen's bike is, was kinda already worn out, you know? I had to replace  the, What's it called? The, um, you know, where, where, where- Cassette ... with the c- the crank? No, no, the, the, where the crankset is... Oh, the bottom bracket. Oh, the
 Andy: bottom bracket.
  Yeah.
Klaus: Yeah, so I had to replace the bottom bracket, and so now it's, it's all g- running all smooth, you know? It's good.
Andy: Awesome. It's good to have a technical dad show up and help with some of that stuff. Super awesome.
Klaus: Yeah. Yeah, I do all the m- the, you know the lubing and g- the greasing stuff is because, you know, it's just-
 Andy: Yeah
Klaus: what you do, you know? When you race, you do your... A- and when you do that a- after every race, you know? It's so using... You have to do that. This is-
Andy: That was for team mechanics, Claus.
Klaus: Yeah. [00:07:00] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy: Anyways, uh- No ... super awesome. I'm just really, uh, stoked for you guys. I think it's awesome you're together, and it's gonna be a really fun adventure.
And, and you already started out with it, so, um, you guys have all the same similar gear, obviously. I don't know if you re- Did you bring stuff for him that he didn't have, um, that he needed, or besides...
Klaus: Well, Sam- Well, just clothing- Yeah ... you know, like bibs and, and some shirts.
 Andy: Oh, okay. Awesome.
Klaus: But, uh, yeah, that's really important, you know?
Like, uh, because he was wearing  the pant-  the bibs, you know, for, forever.
 Andy: Yeah. Yeah. And,
 Klaus: you know- Yeah, they
 Andy: tend to
Klaus: wear out ... it was worn out. This is crazy, yeah,
Andy: but- Yeah, yeah Um, I, uh, so what, when you saw him, like, y- do you notice anything different about him or... Sorry, we gotta talk about you while you're sitting right there, but is he all,
 Klaus: all- No.
 Andy: No?
Klaus: No. Same old? I mean, we, you know, I mean, we al- we always FaceTime anyway, you know? Yeah, yeah. So it's, uh- True
 Andy:  True ...
Klaus: so that's, that's- You already, you stay close ... that I have to say the technology changed quite a bit, so this is so easy, you know? Yeah. All- around the globe, there's no, no, uh, distance anymore.
You don't feel it, really feel that anymore, this
Andy: is, uh- I, yeah. I mean, that is super neat ... the video. It's, it's neat, I'll say, for viewers but still what the both of you are doing I think is just off the charts unique because-
 Klaus: Oh,
Andy: yeah, yeah. True ... uh, I mean, I was, I was looking at the pictures, so let's, let's just jump into it.
You, uh, you know, the bikes, how, how, how much they weigh with all the gear on them? What do you
 Klaus: think? It's like 30, 35 pounds.
 Andy:  Yeah. And, um-
Klaus: It's, um, it's super heavy, dude.
 Andy: Yeah.
 Klaus: This
 Andy: is super heavy.
Klaus: Like, we, we did the Andes, that took four hours of climbing, dude. I have never, never went through this before.
 It was re- insane.
 Andy: What, so
 Klaus: was it-
Andy: Because you- Yeah? Yeah, go ahead.
Klaus: You cannot pace, you know? Yeah. You have to [00:08:00] go with the gear because you cannot go faster. This is, it's impossible. You go like a, a k- uh, like a mile and then you're done, oh,
really? With the weight, the wood.
Andy: So you you'd have to stop or take breaks or-
 Klaus: Yeah, yeah, of course.
Okay. Absolutely. Okay. It's, it's re- it's really something else when you kind of- Yeah, that's good
 Andy: perspective. Yeah.
Klaus: It's also, uh, with yesterday, we had, like, uh, the last two days we had headwind. Oh. You cannot imagine. That's brutal, huh? So, yeah, no, I mean, me, you know- Yeah ... from the tactical standpoint, you know, you know what to do.
So you just pace, you know, a kilometer. Yeah. And then you, you, then you can go a pace, but it's freaking retarded, dude. With this bag. Yeah. It's like you have it putting up a sail, you know? But you're going the upright.
Andy: I was gonna, I was gonna say there's not- That's insane ... not any aerodynamic
 Klaus: characteristics.
You have to experience this. Yeah. This is really crazy.
Andy: A- and so are, but are you drafting off of each other to a degree- Yeah, yeah ... a little bit? Sure.
Klaus: Okay, yeah. Absolutely, yeah. And you- Absolutely ...
Andy: and I saw, uh, okay, so, so the route that you took, it, it looked like some of the most insane pictures I've seen yet, because it looked off road in some-
 Klaus: Oh, yeah, that was-
 Andy: Some aspects, right?
Klaus: It was, it was a 40 mile, [00:09:00] uh, like, dirt road. Washed out like crazy. You cannot imagine. This was really... The beginning of that road was headwind, too, so it went, it go went, it went, we had went up.
 Andy: Yeah.
 Klaus: Headwind and the weight.
 Andy: Yeah.
 Klaus: On a dirt road.
 Andy: A- and-
 Klaus: That's some-
 Andy: Yeah ...
 Klaus: special
Andy: stuff. This- I'm, I'm sure.
Uh, so your training probably prepared you some, 'cause I know you were training a lot, but it probably wasn't what you could do, even, right?
Klaus: No, you cannot, no, th- this is way different, you know? Yeah. With that weight.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: You, there's no powering, you really have to pace yourself-
 Andy: Sure ...
Klaus: and just l- look that you go that you can continue.
 Andy: Mm-hmm.
Klaus: You know? On the Andes, I used the lowest gear on my bike uphill.
 Andy: Yeah. So-
 Klaus: Because of the weight.
Andy: Uh Stefan, you're feeling pro- probably pretty fit and used to this in comparison, right? You've been doing it for a year and a half now, so I'm sure it, like did you notice that transformation?
Did you notice, uh, from the first day you started in fall of '24 'til now your body's changed or just, like- Mm-hmm ... how much more- you know, tough or resilient you are or any of that change?
Stefan: Uh, not sure. I wanna say yes. But it, it, it's, it's too far back to remember.
 Andy:  Yeah,
Stefan: sure. But, you know You just get used to it.
Yeah. You just pace yourself. You don't ... You just, uh, know it there's no race to win. You just- Yeah, there's no race ... go with the flow.
Klaus: Yeah. Well, yeah, I have to, I have to also mention, you know, since we rode, uh, riding together, you know the average, uh, increased quite a bit, you know? [00:10:00] Because you know me, I, I-
 Andy: I
 Klaus: do.
I do ... you know? I do. Today, we, I went, like, uh, I went, like, really, like, uh- Yeah ... kinda fast, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Because I like to pull. Yeah. And then it was raining. You do. You do. And, and you pull- putting me in the rain, it's like-
 Andy: Yeah ...
 Klaus: That-
Andy: So I have to- ... that's good until he gets mad and sends you home, so yeah.
Klaus: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. That's-
 Andy: Good
 Klaus: partner. That's ...
 Andy: No,
Klaus: but it's all good. You know, I mean- That's awesome ... There's no rush, you know? Yeah. Yeah. You don't have to be anywhere-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Klaus: at any per- point of time. This is the ... That's what I had to learn in the beginning,
 Andy: you
 Klaus: know?
Andy: Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I just got- So we-
I just got kinda chicken skin, kinda, you know, goosebumps about that idea. I mean for all of us that are just jamming at work and just busting our ass right now and, like, in an office, and to think about- I- ... like, the times we get a weekend that we do- Mm ... something like that, and usually it's, it's super structured, right?
You're in and out of a-
 Klaus: Exactly.
Andy: Mm ... a hotel and this and that. So the idea that [00:11:00] you're, you're gonna be roughing it ... I ne- I know you're staying in VRBOs and stuff, but a fair amount of the time you're, you're just gonna be out in the wild, so to speak.
Klaus: Yeah, yeah, tent. And tents or, yeah, yeah. Like, we have tents.
You know, we have our tents.
 Andy: Yeah. It's amazing.
Klaus: And that's what's, what's gonna be probably, uh, going up further north. You know, once we hit Bolivia and Peru, that's where I think there will be, uh, a lot of really nice opportunities to just s- stay in the tent, you know? Yeah. With the clear sky, and then the high altitude, you know?
That's, that's really something else, you know?
Andy: Yep, yep, the stargazing, just
Klaus: all the- Yeah, yeah ... fresh
Andy: air. So, uh- Absolutely ... it looked beautiful. What, what was the ... Were the Andes incredible? Did you have ... Do ... Are you ... You know, did you have a good time in there, or did you get to spend some time at all, like ... Or was it just an all-out assault over the-
 Klaus: No, no
mountains? I mean, first there was the first day we tried.
 Andy: Yeah.
 Klaus: We went up there.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: Uh, but there was a weather change.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: And because of the altitude it was snowing up there, and so we turned around. Oh my God. And then it was the first attempt, and then the next day was clear sky and that's where we went over the, the, the top there.
 You had to go
 Andy: to base,
Klaus: base camp or- And, uh, there's the A- you know the Aconcagua? That's the highest peak.
  [00:12:00] That's right there.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: And then we went to, uh, Uhsbalata. That's ... That was ... W- We arrived there at 9:45 at night. So we rode at night
 Andy: Wow.
 Klaus: So- Okay,
Andy: so are you guys pretty well lit or...?
 Klaus: Oh, yeah.
Andy: Yeah. Sure. I figured. Okay.
 Klaus: Yeah,
Andy: yeah. I love riding at night. That's what I miss about-
 Klaus: No, no, yeah, well,
Andy: we did- ... country stuff and RAM and all that ...
 Klaus: I know. We
 Andy: did
 Klaus: our 50 miles, you
Andy: know, at night. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. I was just thinking about, I'm, I'm gonna head out- yeah ... for a ride later and it'll probably- Yeah
uh, be a little dark when I get home and I, yeah, I miss that stuff. But, um- It's super cool ... so, uh, okay, so let's talk about route now. Um, w-  what are you gonna be doing in the next few weeks? What's the plan? Um- do you know what- The plan is- Yeah ...
Klaus: Uruguay, that's  the ne- that's like, uh, I think like, uh, 300 kilometers away.
Stefan: Yeah, 300 kilometers to go. Then after Uruguay we're gonna dip into Brazil just a little bit.
 Andy: Okay.
 Stefan: Then, uh, back Argentina.
 Andy: Okay.
Stefan: Then right away Paraguay. Wow, okay. And then, uh, from the capital we're gonna go back to Argentina because the, the route, uh, going, uh, up to Bolivia is, uh, nicer this way. I tried to make one, uh, through, uh, Paraguay but, uh, there was a lot more elevation.
Andy: Uh, so you mean you've already done some scouting or do you mean when you're looking at maps and
Stefan: stuff? Yeah, yeah, ma- maps with the, with Komoot you can-
Andy: Yeah. [00:13:00] Yeah, and i- if, uh- The
 Stefan: elevation profile ...
Andy: for people listening, you can follow both of them on Komoot, uh, which is a mapping app. I dunno what you, what you call that, but it's like a, uh, an adventure or training riding maps that-
 Klaus: Trails
 Andy: you
 Klaus: just
 Andy: go. Yeah. Yeah.
Klaus: It puts you on re- really ridiculous trails. I don't know if you've-
 Stefan: Sometimes ...
Klaus: if you've seen some Instagram posts from people, the Komoot planning are like with ... It's ridiculous.
Stefan: Yeah, it's always an adventure because you don't know what the road's gonna,
Andy: uh, be like. Yeah, well- It doesn't
Klaus: even look like a road
Andy: on the- I guess so with that, um, how long did you say that, that rutted dirt road was?
 It was how many kilometers?
 Klaus: 40, 40 miles. Uh,
 Stefan: 50 kilometers.
Klaus: Uh, sort of. No, it was really ... It was, uh, really long. So at the end, i, i, at the last couple kilometers I didn't wanna pedal anymore. I was like, "Fuck this." The, this was crazy.
Stefan: Even though the ro- roads got better at the end, it was worse at the beginning.
Andy: Yeah. Um, so a- were you spending a lot of time on the bike, Claus, before you you came out? Or were you, um ... Before you traveled out to meet him were you doing five, six-hour [00:14:00] rides or
Klaus: anything like that? No. Absolutely not. No? Okay. No, no, no.
 Andy: Okay.
Klaus: No, the first, the first ride we did from Santiago to Los Andes-
 Andy: Yeah
Klaus: I cramped up so bad at night because I wasn't used to riding like six hours still.
 Andy: Oh, yeah. Yeah. But,
Klaus: yeah, well, you just jump
Andy: into it, you know? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And you do it. That's what you do. You're right. And, and eventually your body will adapt. It's probably smart not to have taxed it already so you can be building as you go.
Uh- Mm. So, uh, uh, I saw some of the photos and images and stuff. Um, can you talk about, um, Stefan, any, any crazy stories, anything that's happened, um, in the last, you know, like, few months or anything, uh, that you've learned on the adventure so far, things you had to overcome? I know the bike was getting worn out, but other than that you've been safe and-
 Stefan: Yeah.
 Andy: Yeah.
Stefan: Nothing, uh, pretty dangerous happened. J- just some, uh, funny coincidences because, uh, I met, uh, I met a guy from the UK in- Yeah ... Australia-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Stefan: at the end of the Nullarbor.
 Andy: Yeah.
Stefan: And, uh, well, he, he didn't have a- as much gear and he was going a lot faster, so he... And he also planned to go to New Zealand, but he went the opposite way.
So he, uh, started in Auckland and, and went down till, I think, uh, Bluff is the, the furthest you can go.
 Andy: Yeah.
Stefan: And by coincidence, we actually met when I went up from Queenstown.
 Andy: No way. That's amazing.
Stefan: Yeah. That, that was so funny. Yeah. We didn't plan anything. It was like, huh. I just knew his jersey and his bike, and I'm like, "Nick, is that you?"
Andy: That's awesome. A- and so I know that you, you wouldn't be able to, you know, guesstimate how many people are doing this currently, but, but are there any indication, you know, through the apps that you're using and the mapping or, or social media, um, or just running into people? Because to me, this seems like a, a pretty rare adventure, um, to be- Mm-hmm
bikepacking, uh, uh these distances or, or for this long. And I'm, I'm just curious if you're finding community out there or people that are doing this.
Stefan: Yeah. There are actually, I wanna say, quite a few. I don't know how many are go- Sure ... are, are doing, like a trip around the world, but there are a lot that are doing long distances.
There are... For, especially for New Zealand. Sure. I haven't met as many, uh, bikepackers as I met there.
 Andy: Oh, really?
Stefan: Okay. Yeah, there were really a lot. Yeah. And, uh, also in Australia, uh, I [00:15:00] met a guy. He's, uh... What was he? Uh, 80, 87, uh, s- 78 years old.
 Andy: Wow.
Stefan: Wow. Yeah, yeah. Still going.
Andy: So there's still hope for me. I got time.
I got plenty of time. Retire and I'll, I'll jump on
Klaus: It is good too. It's, it's really-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Klaus: mentally, uh, something different. Yeah. Because, you know, we use... We, we just pace, you know? You know, we know pacing yeah. You just ride and pace. Yeah. But this is so different, you know? It's, it's, uh, it puts you in a different state.
Yeah. It's not pace. It's survival. Mentally and physically- Yeah. ... because y- you, you just, uh, the, the weight tells you the pace, you know? Yeah. Oh, that's a good point. I see what you mean. No matter what, you can... Whatever, you know Yeah, yeah. You, you can go, you can go five miles, but then you die because of the weight, you know?
Right. So, okay. And then you, you realize, okay, this is wrong, and then you just go.
 Andy: Sure.
Klaus: And then you can go. Uh we... I mean, we ride. It's not a, a, a fast pace, but it's- Yeah ... it's decent, you know? So we make, uh, 65 miles a day. And that is really cool, you know. You ma- you really cover quite some distance,
 Andy: you know?
65 miles a day is a lot with all that gear and-
 Klaus: Yeah, yeah ...
Andy: and all the, kinda all the planning and all that stuff, 'cause you gotta think about, you know, where you're gonna end up and... I mean, I don't know. H- how much are you having to stop and just camp where you're at? Or are you d- is some of that occurring where you're just like, "You know, I'm not gonna go any further.
I'm along the side of the road here. This is a good spot. I'm just gonna pull over and [00:16:00] set up, uh, you know, a campsite." Is that... How often does that kind of a scenario happen?
Stefan: here not as much- but like, uh, Australia or New Zealand when- were pretty convenient because there is... or there are very long distances where there's no- Oh, okay.
Andy: Right and with not much in between, right?
Stefan: Yeah, exactly. So- Like, in the Malheur there were like stretches where there's like 200 kilometers nothingness, so
Andy: Wow. Yeah, th- more densely populated where you are now, I would think.
Stefan: Yeah, there's like a, a small village or town, uh, like every, uh- Mm
 20, 25 kilometers.
Andy: Nice, nice. So, uh, so some VRBO stuff you'll be doing, and you guys are already mapping that out and planning that and-
Klaus: We have a fun fact too. Uh, two days ago, you know, we, we stopped at a really funny name. But what is that called? Uh, I for- I forgot it. Yeah, so we stopped there.
The hotel was closed, and the guy came out and gave us, um, a, a, a room.
It was really cool. And then he, uh, immediately like, "Yeah, Instagram [00:17:00] post," so he posted po- And then he, uh, contact a guy from the, um, uh, Argentinian radio.
 Andy: Oh, really?
Klaus: Yeah. That's funny. So we went... Uh, during dinner the guy- Yeah
from the radio, uh, texted me- Yeah ... if, uh, if we are available because we leave tomorrow. And I said, "Yeah, just do it tonight," you know. Sure. And then they came over to the restaurant, and we, we had the interview at the restaurant.
 Andy: Oh, that's awesome.
Klaus: Yeah, so- And that, that was broad- broadcasted yesterday.
Andy: That's super cool. I, I wanna... Well, it'll probably all be in Spanish, I'm sure, right?
 Klaus: Yeah.
 Andy: So they
Klaus: were just- Well, he had a translator. He had a
 Andy: translator?
Klaus: Okay. He had a translator. But, uh- Yeah ... it was, uh, really funny. So we had this guy sitting there, you know, uh- Yeah ... uh, taking, um, a video with the microphones, you know.
And there was like the beer bottle standing there, and it was like ... it was like they recorded the whole... It was hilarious.
Andy: Uh, so are they, uh, the... I'm sure, you know, it's kinda funny, but i- in the US it seems like everyone's always doing something for a cause,  like, I'm doing this to- sh- help fight a disease or bring awareness to something, and- Mm
you guys are just doing it 'cause you love doing it. Um, it- did they ask you- Yeah ... those kinds of questions? Are they curious [00:18:00] about-
Klaus: No, no, they, they- ... why? What they asked is, uh, because it's, uh, it's kind of sensation that somebody does that, yeah.
Because people here don't do that. You know, they can't even afford it.
You know, they wouldn't even think about it.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: So he was, um, the main thing was, uh, what m- what our impression was, uh, coming to Argentina.
 Andy: Mm-hmm.
Klaus: What do we think of the country and what we think of, of everything about the the situation, the people and everything.
Sure. It was pretty much, compared to Chile and all this, that's pretty much what they...
And then of course our journey was also, um, told, and Stephan-
 Andy: Yeah ...
 Klaus: of course.
Andy: Yeah. I mean, it's- Yeah ... I mean, already what he's knocked out in, in the last year and a half's pretty incredible. I mean- Mm. You gotta be pretty proud of that and, like- Absolutely ... it's, it's a great story to tell too. Yeah, that's what I was trying to get to, because I still am just blown away by the whole idea of it.
I was telling someone the other day, it was Mauricio Prado, our old teammate. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I was like, "We're just grinding out on [00:19:00] computers and working, and they're just, like, out there, just riding bikes for many-" Every day ... e- every day, and gonna be for days. And, uh, I, I don't know that I could come up with that or do that in my head or have the courage to do it.
 I mean,
Klaus: it's just- I to be honest, I would not have done it ...
Andy: if it were for him.
Klaus: I would not, wouldn't even thought of it, you know? Yeah. But it just, uh, I mean, it was a, a perfect, uh- Yeah ... solution f- to doing that, you know? Yeah. And everything f- came i- fell into place, and- Yeah ... the saving up this time, and now it actually happened, you know?
Yeah. That we ride together. I mean, this is b- Oh, that's so cool too ... we never thought of it, you know? To
Andy: do it with your son too is awesome. It's- So.
 Klaus: Yeah, of course. It's-
Andy: Yeah. And that you have the health and fitness, I mean, you talked about y- I'm sure you're feeling pretty grateful about your financial circumstances, life circumstances, and then your health to be able to do all of this.
Absolutely. 'Cause you're probably riding around or in proximity to people that, like you said, they could never do this. They wouldn't even think- Mm ... of doing it. Yeah. Uh, so it's a pretty cool concept that, uh... And again, you're not, you guys are not, like billionaires, millionaires. You just put a plan together and decided to do it, and you see the value
 Klaus: in it.
To be honest, this, um, this adds, uh, definitely some, some richness, you know?
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: To the l- to life.
 Andy: Oh, sure.
Klaus: Uh, um, doesn't, no, where money does not really have any meaning.
 Andy: Yeah, yeah. I was
 Klaus: getting-
Andy: No ... yeah, I was getting
 Klaus: that vibe-
Andy: It's really not- ... from Stephan and feeling pretty jealous- Absolutely, yeah
actually. I was uh, um, when we spoke a while back and I was just thinking, "Man he's kinda dissolved some of those wants that we think are needs and he's just out there cruising and enjoying life." Um, it's like a s- Mm ... stroll in the park, but a lot more effort. Um, but super awesome, guys.
 He- I,
Klaus: I, I- I'm definitely learning from [00:20:00] him to- Yeah ... To, uh, ride to the right pace for that, you know? Because I, I always tend to- I kinda wish, I kinda wish I would've been there for that ... to pull, you know? Yeah. Oh, I know. To always pull and push. It's like, but i- it's really, I, I always see it, you know? Yeah.
Uh, the f- the first couple of rides I saw, like, the end- ... where I'm, like, super antsy and then I kinda get, uh, you know, like, low sugar and always push it, and he just rides, you know? Yeah. He just rides-
 Andy: So, okay,
Klaus: yeah ... until the end.
Andy: Th- I didn't articulate- And he knows- ... that question very well early on because it's, I'm not picturing, like a physiological in the mirror trans- transformation.
I'm saying that, like  your body and mentally you've changed because you're able to do this, you know, continuously. Like- Mm-hmm ... just it's, it's not muscle, it is muscle endurance, but in a whole different way. Oh, absolutely. It's such a unique o- Yeah ... like he's saying, which I think is really unique because y- you crush miles and you're always on, um, Zwift or whatever that is, r- you know, racing bikes and all that stuff.
 Mm-hmm. And [00:21:00] it's so different, right?
Klaus: Oh, no comparison. Absolutely no. No, this is- But,
Andy: but just as hardcore, just in a different way.
Klaus: It is, uh, u- uphill especially. Because once you go up- Yeah ... with this weight-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Klaus: You feeling it like somebody's pulling you back, like really, like this-
 Andy: Yeah
Klaus: So there's only one pace you can go, you know?
You cannot- Yeah ... force it. Yeah. It's, uh, that's-
 Andy: Love it ...
 Klaus: that's a, a learning curve.
Andy: It's, uh, wow it's a good lesson, life lesson too, just kinda going at- Mm-hmm ... going at your own pace. So- Got to ... What are you most excited about? I mean, you guys are together, which is awesome, and, uh, w- what are you guys looking forward to in terms of, like, where you're gonna be headed or, um, do you have any kinda excursion kinda stuff that you wanna do, like, I don't know, jungle excursions or things you're gonna get into?
Klaus: Well, you know, there's this, uh, in Bolivia, the salt flat.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: I think that's, that's what I really wanna see. Yeah.
Andy: Okay. A salt flat. I've seen the- Is it like- ...
Klaus: uh, huge. Well, you see, if you look at the satellite imagery-
 Andy: Yeah ...
 Klaus: it's a, a real, a white spot. That's what it is. It's huge.
 Andy: Okay.
Klaus: It's- It's the salt flat.
Yeah ... it's like the one we tried to- Uyuni ...
Andy: you remember when we drove back from the, from Acrit in LA and we had to drive [00:22:00] across the salt bed to get around the
Klaus: city Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, that was like, uh, Mad Max, yeah. It was- That was a super adventure ... it was Oh my God. I'm
Andy: sure it's a lot bigger than
 Klaus: that.
Everybody was r- like, o- riding off the highway in, in, in the desert.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: The cars was like, it was dust all over
Andy: It was not... It, it turned out to not be super safe or legal, but, um No. Yeah. But we, we got through it and, uh-
 Klaus: Yeah.
Andy: But yeah, it just reminded me of, like, these giant salt beds we have or these...
They're not salt beds, but these-
Klaus: No, no, this is that's even bigger ... desert basins. Yeah. I'm sure it's really beautiful and epic That's, you see that from satellite. If you look at Bolivia- Yeah ... On the very west-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Klaus: the western side, that's, it's huge.
Andy: Okay. I'll check it out. Yeah. And you'll ride across that- And-
  Or just, like, around
Klaus: it, traverse it? Yeah, we're gonna go there and then, um- Yeah ... eventually we will try Machu Picchu. Yeah.
 Andy: Oh, okay.
Klaus: To get up, get up there, get a ticket and to see that- Sure ... once you're there, you know.
 Andy: Yeah. That's smart. Yeah.
 Klaus: Yeah.
Andy: So- And then- ... um, you can't ride too much of that, right?
Klaus: No, but your bike tree is not allowed to ride up there
Andy: I didn't know, like, yeah, if there's any- Yeah
any road that- No ... takes you even close to it. But no, you gotta take a- No ... bus or a tram or something. Cool.
 Klaus: Yeah.
Andy: What, um, what else you got for me? Any, uh, any, any other stories or scenarios or?
Stefan: Yeah, because you said before, uh, like, uh- Yeah ... uh, pushing through and doing more distances. Uh- Yeah ... I actually did, uh, my longest distance in New Zealand.
 I did- Okay ... 302 kilometers. [00:23:00] 302
 Andy: kilometers at once?
 Stefan: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Andy: And, um, did you have a tailwind?
Stefan: No. Oh. Not good. So at the beginning, it, so it was like a little... No, it was mo- the b- the beginning was mostly uphill.
 Andy: Oh my gosh.
Stefan: And then the, the, the rest was downhill and with a sh- a little bit of uphill at the, at the end.
I actually wanted to get to, um, to the, to near the, to the dock so I can, uh, take the ferry over to the North Island.
 Andy: Yeah.
Stefan: Because there was, uh, bad weather coming.
 Andy: Mm-hmm.
Stefan: And then, uh same as today the last, uh, few hundred kilo- uh, few hundred meters, it started raining.
Andy: Of course. But, uh, I mean, that's- Yeah
 that's awesome. I, I-
 Stefan: 300K.
 Klaus: Yeah. I,
Andy: I've never done that in my life. On that bike. Yeah, me neither. I've
 Klaus: never done
Andy: once- Well it, like, the, it reminds me of those solo guys in Race Across America. Mm-hmm.
 Klaus: Oh, yes.
Andy: They would start in Oceanside and they wouldn't- That's- ... stop till, like, Durango. Yeah. Uh you could do that easily now.
Like, you just would be, like- Yeah ... the, the fascinating thing about riding and the continuous riding like that is your, your neck and shoulders get blown out, right? Like, from being in that position for that long. Yeah. Like, we'd see these crazy neck apparatus, like this, like, uh, harness to, [00:24:00] 'cause your neck just fails.
You can't lift it up anymore. So, um, I'm sure just crazy stuff like that, like you just get on the bike and you're just, your body's like, "That's where I'm supposed to be now," right? Mm-hmm. Like, that's just the... That's like your La-Z-Boy. It's literally like your couch. Like, you're super comfortable on it, I bet.
I mean, I just remember that from w- uh, being really fit and, and, and doing those ultra events, is just stepping back on and even if I was tired, I was like, "Oh, this is pretty comfortable." it's kind of a weird concept, right? But- Mm-hmm ... kinda happens that way.
 Klaus: Yep ...
 Andy: and, uh-
Klaus: I'll send you continue to send you pictures.
Andy: No, I really love that. I, I love all, all- Yeah ... and I love you guys repping Cannes. Um, one more time, I wanna see the shirts. You gotta stand up. It's pretty sick.
Klaus: Let, let's go, uh, let's go back a little bit.
This is six. Yeah, this is six, huh?
Andy: What did you do? Oh,
 Klaus: here it is. Okay.
Andy: Yeah. There we go. Looking good. Love it, man. I'll be on in five- 10, 10 ... 'cause I turn around too. I wanna get the backs. Yeah, I'll just, just for a quick pause Yep. That's awesome. All right. Love it. So, um, all right, any other words of wisdom or, uh, anything you got for me?
And I'll, I'll put this together. It'll take me a week or so. I gotta go up to Seattle for work. Kinda traveling a lot for the job right now, but it's good.
 Klaus: Okay.
Andy: And check out the new website. I've been busting my ass on that.
 Klaus: Okay.
Andy: Cool. Um it's not perfect. Where is it? I'm not you guys. Yeah, I think it's- I'm not, like, computer programmers, but, um, when you get a chance- Where-
 check it out.
Klaus: I don't see you now.
Andy: What are you looking, what are you looking for?
 Klaus: Oh, here you are.
Andy: Okay. Oh, you lost me? I'm back. No,
 Klaus: no. You're good.
Andy: Um, yeah, when you get a chance- Yeah ... check it out. I'm, I'm trying to put a lot of, um, a lot of time into the e-commerce stuff, and I'm in, like, a sch- Super ... a school right now.
Mm-hmm. Uh, but it's like paying someone, but I'm actually doing all the work. So it's...
Klaus: How's the Can't stuff going anyway?
Andy: It's okay. I mean, it's sell- it's selling well in on Kawaii, and, um, it, it's just been on me to not... I haven't [00:25:00] put together a great marketing- Well,
Klaus: there's a lot of time that you need to invest.
 Of course.
 That's,
Andy: that's- You got it. And, and that's what I'm doing. So right now I'm just, like, I've decided for the next couple years, I'm you know, I'm gonna put everything I can into it. Mm-hmm. Because I need an exit strategy because I can't be doing this. I wanna do what you're doing, right?
 Klaus: There's no Can't?
 Andy: Yeah, there's no Can't.
 Klaus: Good.
Andy: But that's the problem with a brand, right? If it didn't say Can or Can't, I would just be able to quit this shit, but-
 Klaus: Yeah
Andy: I can't be the guy that walked away- Just, yeah ... and didn't, you know.
Klaus:  How, how's Mauricio doing? That was cool
 Andy: that you- He's- ...
 Klaus: sent the picture.
Andy: Yeah. Yeah, it was Tony's gr- uh, we were at Tony, um, not graduation. What do you call it? Retirement. Uh, Tony retired, uh, from teaching, and so we had a big party at his house and, um- Oh, he did? Yeah.
 Klaus: Wow.
Andy: Yeah. It's crazy. He's still riding quite a bit, and he's in pretty good shape. Um, but Mauricio is- How
 Klaus: old is he?
 How old is he now?
 Andy: He is 58.
 Klaus: Oh,
 he's
Andy: retired already? No, no, no. No, no, no. I'm sorry. That's, uh, Jerry's 58. He is 60 this year in November, I think.
 Klaus: Okay.
Andy:  So he's coming up. How old are you, Claes?
 Klaus: Uh, 57.
Andy: Okay. Awesome, man. And, uh, Mauricio is, he has a new job. He, uh, he's not with Wynn anymore. He's-
With this super high-end real estate firm. He's doing something you'd be fascinated with. It's, it's all, like, um- It's like guest experience, so basically they're tracking and making AI assumptions about what you'll need in the next, the next door you walk into. Like- Okay ... stuff you guys are so- Yeah.
 Yeah, it's pretty, pretty
 Klaus: intense, you know,
Andy: like- Stuff that you would have no interest in in the lives you're living now. But, like a super rich guy walks into a casino, and immediately they know he's on property, and they are preparing his favorite whatever he needs. It's stupid stuff, but it's what they're putting a bunch of money into, uh- Mm
for, for guest experience. Well, that's
Klaus: what the the guys want, you know?
 Andy: Yeah. To
Klaus: have the money, you know? And, um, it's just-
Andy: Feel important. I don't know. But, uh, anyway, so he's- ... he's loving it though, 'cause he gets to do a lot of interesting- That's cool ... tech work and, uh... But he's doing well. He's not riding enough.
Uh, one, one story is Swanny's, you remember, um, Joseph and, um, Zubby? Yeah, yeah. And they have that bike shop. You know? They had, like, a 10-year reunion, and, uh they had a big bike, a big ride, and, um, I showed up with, um, Tony, uh, Mauricio, and Chuck showed up, and it was so funny. N- none of us are in the kind of shape we were in before, but we all- Yeah
found ourselves at the front just all out.
 Klaus: Yeah, of course.
Andy: Of course. Oh, my God. It was... You would've loved it. Just- Oh ... I was laughing my ass off, 'cause it was just- ... it, we were just doing everything we could. It's
 Klaus: hilarious,
Andy: dude. And, um, yeah, so just fun to have those skills. But, um, okay, so when are you guys coming?
Are you coming to the US at all, or you hate us? You guys-
 Klaus: No, we're not.
Andy: You fucking hate us, don't you? Everybody hates us now.
Klaus: No, we skip that part.
Andy: You know, that's, uh- Skip this loser country. Well, it's,
Klaus: from the time, it does not really... Because we take, uh, a lot of time already until we, uh, we, we go to Mexico, and then we probably, um, go to Yucatan, Cancun- Oh, wow
and fly from Cancun to Portugal, you know?
 Stefan: On top of
 Klaus: it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Stefan: So we have Africa and-
Klaus: And so we do our- Wait, where, where are you- First came from-
Andy: You're going from Mexico to where?
 Stefan: Morocco.
Andy: Morocco. Okay, you're gonna do... You're gonna hit Africa. So, so we can say we also did Africa. Check the box off.
Yeah, you could do that. Go to Cape Town.
Klaus: Yeah, that's- Yeah, yeah. That's a little... And then go all the way up to the Congo.
Andy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't do that. I'll never see you again.
Klaus: Yeah, exactly. That's, that's probably what's happening.
Andy: Um, so Canada? I thought you guys were gonna hit Canada.
Klaus: No, no, no. That's, it's, uh- Skipping all the entire- Well, Canada is already...
During the, uh, autumn, it's cold out there, you know? Oh. It's not really-
 Andy:  Right,
Klaus: right. That's, that's a time, you know?
 Andy: So,
 Klaus: um-
Andy: That's not really- That's okay. All right. How much more time left, uh, on the adventure?
Klaus: Probably, uh, the h- the adventure itself, I mean, that's like, uh, um, February next year, you know?
 Andy: Wow, February.
Klaus: But we need to go, uh, Europe south, you know? And, like, Africa.
Andy: Oh, okay. Um, so there, there's a big group- That, that, that- ... of us that want to rent something like, uh, in Lake Como and do a, a ride out there, um, in next, not this summer, but next summer
 Klaus: Okay ...
Andy:  Um, maybe, it, who knows? You know, it could be cool.
Maybe we'll intersect or see you guys, um- Mm-hmm ... I think it's, like, myself and Tony and Gerry MacDonald, and Prado might go, and we just go ride and hang out, mm-hmm. So, um, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe we... I would love, and Steve really wants... He's so impressed and wants to jump in with you, so- Mm-hmm
 uh, Gates, so I'll, um-
 Klaus: Yeah, Steve. Yeah, yeah.
Andy: It's, uh- I'll update him, and he might, uh- Yeah ... Find a way. So, so cool. Well, I'll let you guys go. It's, it's, uh, late there now, right? It's-
Klaus: No, it's okay. We, you know-
 Andy: It's 9:00, 9:00, 10:00 PM there ...
Klaus: we just, we just put some, uh, some beers in the fridge, you know?
 Andy: Okay. There you go.
Klaus: To, for the regeneration, you know? That's a, a really important part.
Andy: Well, I am so glad you guys are together. Yeah, the good ones. Blue Moon. All right. Well, you need an orange with that. Yeah. Do you put orange in those? That's what they do sometimes. Fuck
 Klaus: yeah, dude.
Andy: Fuck that. No. So, uh, awesome, guys.
Um, I will, uh, I'll sign us off. I'll get this edited. It'll probably be mostly an audio. I don't know if I'll figure out the... But I'll take some clips from it for photos. No worries.
 Klaus: And
Andy:  We'll see you then. So good. That's
 what
Klaus: I thought, you know? Uh, we are d- those days now, uh, off, and we have time.
Yeah. So I thought we just do-
Andy: Oh, I'm so... No, I- ... do, uh, something ... I gotta take you up on it. So I love this, and it's- Perfect ... it's great to talk to you. I'm so impressed and proud of you guys. It's just frigging cool, man, so keep it up. Okay. I know you get along well, but keep that up too. Yeah. Have fun, and be safe.
 Catch you later.
Klaus: You still have the... What, what's the, the little P? What's the-
 Andy: Payup.
 Klaus: Payup. Payup. Yeah, yeah.
Andy:  Oh hold on one second. You got a second, right? Hold on.
Klaus:  Yeah. Yeah. There's something ... Payup
Stefan: That's gonna super pass. And it's the same with the, with the Rosika. I'm coming ... Don't soak her now. Well, um- I think- Next to her house next to the pool. I think she's swimming right now. Yeah, at the mix. Okay. She,
 Andy: she
Klaus: swims pretty much every day. Yeah, it's cool. Cool, yeah. All good. Did her aerials
 Andy: or she gets rad.
It's what else you got for me? Any, uh, any, any other stories
Klaus: pretty fun. Dude, what's really crazy is- Mm-hmm ... the dogs here are so friendly. Yeah. You have no idea.
Andy: Oh, really? And are they all
 Klaus: off-
 Andy: Big dogs- They're
 Klaus: not, not on leash,
Andy: they're just freestyle, right? They're just
Klaus: everywhere. Free. They come and then- Wow ... they are, like, so happy and super, super relaxed, you know?
Like, like, you can pet them. They, they jump up- Yeah ... and like, "Ah, I love you," you know? I was like, "What the hell, dude? This is really, like, amazing." Yeah. I mean, you know what, but you're a dog owner too. Yeah. Yeah. Especially when you, you know, you- Yeah ... if you have had a dog or you have a dog, you know how that is.
You, you can read them, you know?
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: Yeah. But this is, like, incredible here. I, I was like-
 Andy: Yeah ...
 Klaus: everywhere we [00:26:00] went-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Klaus: they just come by and say hi. And then, oh, but then leave again. You know, it's like, hey, and then, hey. Was super happy. It was, you know, like, no, super chill.
 Andy: That's awesome.
Klaus: This is ... Um, yeah, it's really good.
 Yeah.
Andy: I, I mean, it's kind of just such a different culture. Um, and things like that are, are so little when you kinda discuss them. But I, my neighbor came out today and he was like, "Oh, hey, have you seen Buttercup?" Their dog. And I, I'm like, "No." And he was like, "The neighbors have been knocking on my door and said Buttercup's out."
And he's kinda relaxed about it. He doesn't, he's not too worried. But everybody else- Mm-hmm ... in the neighborhood's all upset 'cause there's a dog. And we're, like, a gated community. Like, it should be kind of okay, but everyone's- Yeah ... so protected, protective of everything it's just nice to see that, right?
 Klaus: cruising Absolutely
 Andy: Yeah, I
Klaus: love it, man No, no, it's... They're like, uh, running wild. I mean, not wild, but- Yeah ... in the [00:27:00] city and everywhere, you know? And then you go stop at, by the gas station, there's a huge dog, you know?
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: And he jumps, kinda is like wagging his tail, "Hey, hi, little dogs."
 Some
 Andy: food, and then, uh-
Klaus: This is so funny ... yeah, and
Andy: they know, they know where their home is, so they'll go home.
 Klaus: Oh.
 Andy: Yeah. That's awesome.
Klaus: Yeah, but they read you as well, you know? Yeah. They really... You can see that they're really careful. They look at you, you know? Yeah. How you look at them, and then they see you.
 Are you a good human?
Yeah. Like, you know? Yeah, exactly. They totally check that out. And they know right away. They're like- it's amazing ...
 Andy: yeah.
 Klaus: It's amazing.
 Andy: Well, glad you guys-
Klaus: Well, I think I sent you this one picture with those, those dogs Yeah, the... You with the, with
 Andy: the four,
Klaus: four dogs all over you Dude, this was like Superman.
That road- Yeah ... was, like, forever nothing. Yeah. And then there come, comes this farmer, yeah. He walks acro- uh, towards us.
 Andy: Yeah.
Klaus: And there were, like, these four big dogs, you know? And I was, like, just kneeling down, and they were like, "Holy shit." You know?
 Andy: That's awesome.
Klaus: Yeah, it was so funny.
 Andy: Yeah. So funny.
I mean, that's the stuff, um, that's, like, some of the [00:28:00] coolest part of that adventure, right? It just-
 Stefan: Yeah ...
Andy: I love all that stuff. Absolutely. That's good. Yeah, yeah. Super cool. It's so fun. Get thousands of pictures, um- Yep ...
Stefan: and- I'll send you something from Australia right now ...
Andy: okay. You, you- I'm gonna check that
 Stefan: out
 take a look.
Andy: Yeah. Is it on the... Oh, you texted it to me. Yeah. Oh, that's so cool. Wow. But the...
Stefan: You need to look at the video.
Andy: Oh, this is the one with the truck. Yeah. I remember you sent me this. That was insane. Yeah,
Stefan: I, that I sent you.
Andy: Do you see that? With the four trailers. I would probably... Yeah, I would've packed my bags.
 With
Stefan: the train. It's a truck train,
Andy: yeah. I would've been on a helicopter out of there right then. That looked terrifying. Oh, so you had, like, a little bike gang on that one.
Stefan: Yeah. The Ger- the, there was one German guy. We actually cycled until the end of the Nullarbor. Yeah. So, like,
 Andy: 2,000- Straight
 Stefan: peloton
 kilometers.
Andy: Yeah. I love the nobody is really riding. This guy's just, like, in a soccer kit.
Stefan: Yeah, he's riding with, uh uh... What's it called? Like, uh- Something I did, whatever
 Andy: Yeah. Um-
Stefan: Several, several- Slippers, slippers. Slippers now
Andy: I gotta get those, uh, the cycling caps I've, I've been thinking about- Yeah
how cool it would be if I had some Cannondales made. Yeah, but
the US- I saw the- But- Yeah. What, where did you get that? Like-
 Klaus: From Holland, Netherlands
Andy: I- it looked like- And
Klaus: this one- Is it- See, the other guy was from Ireland.
 Andy: Oh, okay. So
Klaus: this one this is so cool. I saw this. This is fucking crazy awesome.
 Andy: Yeah.
 Klaus: You know?
 Andy: You got that.
 Klaus: With
 the
 Andy: motif.
 Klaus: Yeah. And then you,
Andy: you- Oh, it's skulls. I thought it was like, um- And then
Klaus: you go like this, you know? Oh, it's...
 Andy: What the fuck?
Klaus: These are the ones that... Yeah, okay.
Andy: You flip it up when someone, when someone cuts you off. I like that. What
Klaus: the fuck, dude? So this is, but this is really cool. It, it's, uh, like a regular bike cap, you know? But
Andy: I saw this- I like it. It's super cool ...
 Klaus: and fucking awesome. Yeah.
Andy: All right. I'm inspired. Um, yeah, awesome.
Uh, cool, guys. Well, I will, uh, wa- I'll catch up with you in a couple weeks or something. Let's do it again. Okay. Super fun. And I'll, I'll ch- I'll be, uh- Okay ... I'll be as quick as I can to get the audio out there. It's crazy, but, um, so I, I don't have a lot of downloads, but, um, yours, uh, seems to be popular.
Um I'm sure it's like, um-
Klaus: Well, I post it on mine- Let me see ... and Stephan posts his on, on,
Andy: on- Oh, okay ... his
Klaus: too, so that adds the whole thing, you
Andy: know? Yeah. Um, yeah, I mean, it's like I don't know, like 100 downloads. That's kind of a lot for me. I mean, it's cool just that people are checking it out, mm-hmm.
So, uh, that's kind of fun. Try to keep it, uh, entertaining and, um- And good. So, uh, awesome. You guys, uh, have a great evening, and I'll, uh, I'll catch up with you soon. Klaus, check out the site. Give me- I will absolutely ... give me your thoughts. It's all, like, it's all storytelling, so the format of it is based on the science of this firm that I, I believe they know what they're talking about, 'cause they've done all of it.
So they wanted me to pr- tell the story of where Kæn came from- right up front, because I'm going after a lot of new customers, 'cause people don't know what it is. Mm-hmm. Yeah, exactly. So that's when, when you see it, you'll... That mobile's not as good-
Klaus: You know what the, what a lot of people associate it is with?
 Andy: Canada
 Klaus: Canada.
Andy: What are you gonna do? I took some stuff into a Canada store, uh, 'cause I... W- remember our old, our Diamondback, the old CEO of Diamondback is- Yeah ... the chief merchandise officer for Mountain Equipment Company in Canada, and Mountain Equipment Company is like REI. They have like- Oh,
 Klaus: right. Yeah, yeah,
 Andy: yeah, yeah.
 They have like 20 stores.
 Klaus: Yeah.
Andy: Um, and he, he, he mentioned about having some gear in the store, but he's kinda ghosted me, so I think he's just a busy guy. But, um, I, I wanna, I wanna build the footprint online. I wanna get the business rolling and be able to pivot from Hawaii stuff. I just gotta re- readdress the Hawaii stuff, keep that going, and then build- Mm-hmm
off of that into designs and things like you guys are about. Mm-hmm. And then maybe in a store like that, um, and then if... Fine, I don't care if it's Canada, so long as it sells some gear and people... I don't, but, um- Yeah, of course ... it's a good icebreaker. I don't Canada's fine with me.
I'm at a point where I'm just like, "If you wanna put it on your underwear, I don't care as long as it sells." You know what I mean? It's gotta be a legit business too. Ma- Maple
 Klaus: Kæn.
Andy: Yeah, Maple... I was thinking that. Might just go full maple leaf and- Sorry, sorry, Hawaii. I sold it to a Canada firm. Uh, whatever- Of course
whatever happens. Yeah, yeah, of course. Yeah. But, uh, no, it's good. You gotta look at
 Klaus: the business side,
Andy: you know? Yeah. That's what I'm trying to do more of right now. Yeah. But it's, it's good. It's fun still. I just gotta sell some gear, keep it fun, and um, yeah, blow it. Like, I like that kinda... I like that art right there.
  It's kinda cool, that- Mm-hmm.
 Klaus: It's cool,
Andy: yeah ... Yeah. Sorry with the reflection. But, um- But yeah, so everything's good, man. Um, Angie says hello, and she's glad you guys are together. And, uh, so I'll... I don't know. She's out with another couple. Also hi. Hi to everyone, yeah. Oh, yeah. To your phone. I will. Oh yeah, Jamminators loves all your stuff.
Jamminator. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Tony. Oh, he, he- Every, every- ... he lives like you guys. He just has a house. It's weird. Okay. You know? He's practically homeless, but he's gotten weirder and weirder.
 Klaus: Really?
Andy: Oh, yeah. He is... I love him- So- ... but he is, I mean, at the park, uh, getting trash out of the trash cans and feeding it.
Well- He, well, he's feeding it to his dogs, but I think he eats it sometimes too. He just doesn't like to spend money at all, and he hates things that are wasted. Mm-hmm. So he doesn't spend any money, like-
Klaus: Is he... Isn't he, isn't he, uh he got married too again, yeah? No. Or
 Andy: is he
 Klaus: already-
Andy: No. Oh. I mean, he... I don't know his total situation, but I don't, I haven't heard that he even has a girlfriend.
But he doesn't talk about that stuff.
 Klaus: Oh, really?
Andy: He's very private. No, he's-
Klaus: Wow, this is, uh, very interesting. Now-
Andy: Yeah, but he's good ...
 Klaus: now with
Andy: the retire- I love him. He just
Klaus: won't- But now with the retirement, he's probably, uh, getting- Oh ... well, getting better, you know?
Andy: I mean- Well, yeah, he's... And I know he has money.
He just he won't come over... He won't go see Tony, 'cause Tony moved to Seven Hills, and it's too far
So, 'cause he doesn't wanna drive up
Klaus: there But I know he has, uh, he, he's got, uh some money. I mean, I, I know that.
Andy: I know. Me too. You know, but- Me too. He just can't spend it ... that's crazy that- It's like a, a- He gets- It's like he gets- ... Christ ... an allergic reaction if something, if money leaves his pocket.
But I love the guy, he's just, um-
 Klaus: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of
Andy: course ... getting kind of... You know how, however you are, it just gets worse or better when you get older.
 Klaus: Jesus Christ,
Andy: dude. Luckily, you're, you're fun and kicking ass, so keep that up, man.
Klaus: No, dude, this, um, fitness, pff, awesome. Yeah. I, I love it because this is, like, um, it reminds me of the training camps we did in Italy.
Yeah. You know? Yeah. We did all this long distance ride- Yeah ... with that slower pace, you know, where you get the base miles in. Sure. Sure. This is pretty much what it is. Uh- You mean when you
 Andy: raced in
Klaus: Europe back in the day? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. You guys did- In the springtime before the racing, we do, like, two or three weeks of base miles- Right
just like that. 200 kilometers, 180, no matter how long it takes, but you just ride, you know, the base miles. Yeah. Yeah. And this is pretty much what it is. Yeah. And it's, like, really amazing.
 Andy: So just-
Klaus: Like, it, it feels- ... when you get home you'll just,
Andy: you'll throw in some intervals and you'll be dominating.
 Klaus: Yeah.
Well, I, I'm, I'm wondering when I go back to the Swift, you know, what my FTP will be, you know?
 Andy: I think it's, I think you're gonna be un-im- Like,
 Klaus: break the chain
Andy: and- You're gonna be unimpressed. No at, at eight miles an hour.
 Klaus: Yeah. But
 Andy: with- You'll- ...
 Klaus: 500
 Andy: watts.
Yeah. [00:29:00] 500 watts. Uh, do you... Uh, wait, wait, do you guys have watt meters? You don't, do you? No. Good. I would be so- That's, like, completely unnecessary ... I would be so nerfed. Uh, yeah. No, really. No. Wasted weight and-
Klaus: No. What, what we have is a, a beer meter,  yeah.
  That's the most important.
 Andy: It is.
It is. Uh, that's awesome. Uh, all right, um- Um, so anyways, uh, um, I I'm just gonna stay in touch with you guys.
 I wanna-
Yep. All right, I'm gonna say peace out.
 Stefan: Okay, man.
 Andy: Love you guys.
Stefan: I sent you pictures of the dogs that my dad sent.
Andy: What? Yeah, I can see that. What's that? Take a picture?
Stefan: I, I sent the pictures of the dogs.
Andy: Oh, yeah. I wanna see it. Hold on real quick. Oh, wow. Yeah.
Stefan: Yeah, the video is like one minute- Oh, look at you
but it's super funny. Look at
 Andy: dad. Love it.
Klaus: Yeah, it is really cool. It's, uh, such a nice experience once you, once you, o- when you are a dog owner, you know? You really appreciate, you know? People who don't have dogs, I don't think they will even grasp that, uh-
 Andy: Yeah ...
Klaus: ra- level of, of, uh, emotion that you get, you know?
 With this- Oh,
 Andy: man.
 Klaus: That's all I- It's way different ...
Andy:  All, we just make out-
 Klaus: You know what I
Andy: mean? ... all day. All day, that girl is all over me, just... It's hilarious. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She just- Yeah. And working from home, that... Thank God I have a dog, or I would've been done for 'cause- Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm ... she kinda, she'll come and nudge me at the end of the day, and then nudge me, and then jump on me.
She's like, "It's time to leave the computer," and then we usually- Yes ... and then we usually swim, so for like- an hour she just won't stop. It's pretty- That's awesome. Yeah, super awesome. So- Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well, glad you're getting the fix definitely. Yeah, it's, yeah, it's good stuff. Cool.
 Well, uh-
 Klaus: All righty, man ...
Andy: catch you soon. Take care guys. Yep.
 Klaus: Okay. Okay. Yeah.
 Andy: Later.
 Klaus: Cool. Bye-bye.
Struggle is real. Struggle is true. All my people stand firm and I will stand with you. Struggle is real. Struggle is true.
 Andy: Bye.
 Stefan: Recording stopped
