Here are but a few of many favorite scriptures that support the urgency of our guarding our tongue, our time, our generosity, our fear, our trust, and our heart.

1. Guard your tongue:

“He who guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from distress.” Proverbs 21:23
“A fool vents all his anger, but a wise man holds it back.” Proverbs 29:11
“He who guards his lips guards his soul, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.” Proverbs 13:3

2. Guard your time:
“He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgement.”
Proverbs 12:11
“So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.” Psalms 90:12

3. Guard your generosity:

“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10
“One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.” Proverbs 11:24

4. Guard your fear:
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
“He who fears the LORD is secure in confidence.” Proverbs 14:26

5. Guard your trust:
“He who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.” Proverbs 28:26
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3

6. Guard your heart:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
