Welcome back to another episode of Queen's Pitch. I'm Bridget
Kara
0:24
and I'm Kara,
Bridget
0:25
and here we are. Another day, another dollar, another Charlotte FC upset
Kara
0:33
on the road,
Bridget
0:34
no less. On the road again. Well, we're not gonna be on the road again for a minute because we got like for the last five games, next five games at home. But anyway yeah we was we went up there, we played on a baseball pitch and we did not we did not have any home runs, that's for sure. I can't make any puns. I'm not good at that.
Kara
0:52
We struck out.
Bridget
0:55
That was a good one though. Heck yeah. Look at you. I'm not that smart.
Kara
0:59
But, uh,
Bridget
1:01
anyway, we struck out 2
Kara
1:03
to 1. Yeah,
Bridget
1:05
2 to 1. I mean, we got two. We scored within the first. I don't know, before I could even come and get my nachos at the minute. Right. I know I was trying get my nachos in here and missed the goal. Had everyone look at it and then, um, and then. Yeah, then it was kind of like a stalemate until the till they score and then you're like, oh God, here we go again. And then got extra minutes and they scored in the 92nd minute. I wish we could see a stat for how many times we were allowed to go in the 92nd minute. I mean, I
Kara
1:34
could probably find that, but not right this second.
Bridget
1:37
Yeah. No. 1s But, you know, I feel like that's our that's our wonky moment anyway. So we lost two. One. Devastating.
Kara
1:47
It's devastating. This on paper to me, doesn't look like the result. Doesn't look like the way it felt. And not that that really matters or anything, but I think we were going. Okay. I guess another tie isn't so bad. And by the time we got there, we'd already lost it, 1s right?
Bridget
2:06
I was thinking to tie with me, but I was holding my breath. I hold my breath every every game for the last 20 minutes,
Kara
2:13
but honestly, I go into like I hate when we play at Yankee Stadium. I feel like we do so much better when we play Red Bulls. We haven't played it the other one they have, but I just I hate when we play Yankee Stadium. It's the worst. It's just so small and we go into that as a disadvantage. And I know they're professionals and that shouldn't matter and they should be able to adapt. But does that really matter if you can't connect passes and be accurate. And it actually does throw you off the whole team. And because you you're not where you normally are and not have the space and distance that you have utilizing, you know, those gaps and things in the same way. No, because there are people on top of you and close to you. And so I always go into this one more negative thinking, just because NYC is they've got that down pat like this is their home turf and you know they're going to know where each other are. That's why their passing accuracy is so high is because this is what they're used to be playing on. They they should win on this because they've got that understanding
Bridget
3:17
where everyone is just like we land on. There's like football lines on our field. We should know how to do that. We should know we have
Kara
3:25
better luck then, but we don't practice like that. That's true. I hate that, I just don't like looking at it. It's wonky looking. You don't get good views of the game. It's weird. The way the fans sit in it too is weird. Like, I don't know. I'm not going to that game anyway because I just don't feel like.
Bridget
3:43
I was just sad. I thought we were gonna win it. We had the score where we were. I think we beat them four times and tied once. And. Yeah, Eric Krakauer said something about that. And then all of a sudden they score that goal. So I was really mad. I think he jinxed this.
Kara
3:58
Commentator.
Bridget
3:59
Yeah, he jinxed this. He said it like and then all of a sudden they score and you're like, shut up, don't say nothing again. Oh that sucks you know? And then we had Yellowcard Fest. We were on a roll getting yellow cards. Well, maybe we don't have a lot of yellow cards with just the same people in the oligarchs. Okay, I also got the one and then Carolyn got one. I don't know why Karen got one and then Ashley got one. Who else got one? I don't know, I don't think that they really care about me. And now the cards. I don't really care about getting all the cards until they start accumulating. So we gotta talk about that later. And then I think for the rest of the game, it wasn't so bad. I wasn't too mad, other than the fact that it seemed like the refs were calling a lot of fouls on us. But when you look at the stats, I think they got more fouls.
Kara
4:40
They had more fouls. Yeah,
Bridget
4:42
something. And I felt like we have more in my heart. We
Kara
4:46
had all three cards. They got zero cards for neither fouls one, they got one yellow for a foul. To be fair,
Bridget
4:52
I just feel like I was grabbing straws to try to understand why we lose while we're on this losing streak. And it I don't know. I know a lot of people in the Twitterverse said that it was like they felt like we weren't passionate, but I felt like it was a little passionate.
Kara
5:04
Yeah, I didn't I'm not mad about this game, I really am. Not. Again, I find that stadium to be rough to play on and I guess they shouldn't. But whatever. It was also raining and not that those things really matter, but that just makes it takes it down a little. You know, despite us having Adelson and Nathan Burton back, that's great. We switched it up a little bit at the ten. We had Petkovic in there even though MLS. Com quoted him as being the six, which was wild. No I go into this one and it's a road match. So far this season we haven't done well at road matches. Yes we typically have Nycfc number. But the other thing is to when we score so early in the match, like then we have to hold that for the rest of the time. And if we don't keep scoring then it makes it harder. So it's very easy to come back from 1 to 0, especially when you score in the third minute. I don't know, I think that one, that one was hard to hold on to if we didn't keep scoring
Bridget
6:07
in the bus.
Kara
6:08
No, we did not park the bus. A lot
Bridget
6:10
of people think like part of the bus.
Kara
6:12
Well, I'm prepared to tell them wrong later in this this talk.
Bridget
6:17
Okay. Let's start. Let's say you want to start with our rafts or our favors and just say, I haven't told Karen mine because she always says it to me, so I'm doing it back
Kara
6:27
fine. No, let's do favors first, I think. And then let's talk about Roth. I'll go first. That way you can be surprising if you want.
Bridget
6:35
Oh, my God, you're probably gonna take mine. Okay. Go ahead.
Kara
6:37
I'm not gonna take. Cause I think my favor is gonna go to Kerwin Vargas. Because I think this was one of the best games he ever played. Despite getting a yellow. Like, he still gets a yellow, and he has one of the best games he's ever had. It was that good? Yeah. And then he was out. He's out the next match for a yellow card accumulation. So which really stinks because I mean he was great offensively. And and he came back defensively. There was one play where he goes racing all the way down almost to the end line to defend. And no none of our other defenders are there. And he when he wants the ball back or he wouldn't like them a corner but still like they don't get a chance in because he's there and you know he does get the goal. He had a couple of shots. The fact that he was also trying to make other plays happen, I think he was trying to put some crosses into the box, passes in the final third, things like that. Like they don't come off in the end. But he had he had an excellent game, very quality, high quality. It's just I wish that everyone else had kind of been on his page, or at least in connectivity. In the end, I think
Bridget
7:47
he did a good job. I like his backflips after he scores. That's I did catch that. I didn't rewind it to make sure I got that part. I'm glad he's starting to score. He's finding his footing. I think it's awesome that he's getting his confidence back. I think that that definitely helps. We definitely need him to score it and he like our highest whatever they call it. Actions or whatever that is. I don't know what that means, but I think he's got like the high six on our team. So we need him to score. And when Carolyn's like feeling it, then Carolyn's doing good and he's moving. Like you said, he can switch from either side of the field and go from back and forth, crisscross applesauce. And he does his own thing. I think the only thing that I followed him for is that yellow card he got, but I don't even know why I got it.
Kara
8:32
I think it's a very light foul to get a yellow card for. Honestly, it doesn't really seem like of all the yellows that that deserved one, but whatever, he gets that one. Okay, I guess we'll take it.
Bridget
8:45
Got it. And so now he has five accumulated and he has now got to sit out next week. Yeah. And he got a $250 fine. They moved him up from that. Fine. Are you get like a higher fine for Spain than you did for that. But anyway you got a fine and he's escalate
Kara
9:02
the more yellows you get. But yeah I mean and that really takes out a threatening piece of our offense of our attack for Portland, which really sucks because we haven't had that many people score goals. I mean, yes, it's been all over the board, but Kerwin has been pretty steady. He's going to get a goal every couple of matches at least. Right. So. I hate to have him out this one because he really had a good game. It even
Bridget
9:24
had other wingers.
Kara
9:25
Well, he'll probably put in Yuri.
Bridget
9:28
Can you already play that side? Yeah,
Kara
9:30
that's Yuri's side.
Bridget
9:32
You're in. Kara, don't play it again. I thought Caroline played on one side and you played on the other. And then Enzo was in the middle at one time.
Kara
9:39
Well, we always been taking the right side.
Bridget
9:41
Okay, so. So Yuri can do the left side.
Kara
9:44
Yeah, Yuri's been doing the left side. And then
Bridget
9:47
Carol was doing the right, and Leo came and. Okay, they switched.
Kara
9:51
Right. Kerwin can usually do either, but yes, Leo
Bridget
9:54
was taking them to me so I can get there. We're getting there. But still, we don't have a backup. I mean, I guess you haven't, but we really even call him a midfielder, so you don't really have a lot of other options come Sunday, right?
Kara
10:06
I mean, you don't have too many, but as you saw this time, he put in Tiger Smalls for his debut. So that's pretty cool. Even though again, let's just see what he does. Portland has one of the weakest defenses. So the floor like we were last year. But maybe he'll get another chance. And that's why he decided to put him in this time knowing that Kerwin got the yellow. And that's why he puts in both of them to see. All right, get some minutes because we're going to need you potentially the next match. But again back to Kerwin. Like he had that goal in the first three minutes. But also in the first minute. Yuri makes the pass forward for Kerwin to run onto. And Kerwin just it closes him down and he just doesn't get around the keeper. But if he'd just gone around the keeper he'd had two within three minutes. Potentially. He gets the goal off of a run made by petty. And like I think Petkovic puts it in the box and he makes a run. The defender catches on his back heel and it pops back out to Kerwin who you know rockets it in. Yeah it's a great goal. He did a good job.
Bridget
11:08
Good. Get one gear on Marcus I think I, I think I favored in the last week
Kara
11:13
and competitive for clearing the area. Your turn. Who's your favor. So I really like this guy. He's been my favorite forever and ever and ever. 1s No. So my favorite this week is going to go to Christian Colina.
Bridget
11:28
These. My favorite goalkeeper on the team. He's awesome. No, he. I feel like he deserves a favour this week.
Kara
11:35
Granted we got scored on, but I'm going to give him grace because he got her and I really thought, oh my gosh, Bingham, get up and start working out, doing what you got to do. And Bingham sitting there chewing his gum, looking like he's watching anyhow on a Saturday night and not paying attention to the game. And so I'm flipping out saying pull down George something. Because, you know, if George would have been on that sideline and Clinton got hurt, George being like, what's going on? David Bingham's over here. And like, I don't even know if he knew Lennon was down there. Anyway, I digress, but Lane is down there holding his arm, crying, freaking out. I thought he couldn't really. Because for goalie you need your arm. Because what if you're going to fall on that side, right? It's gonna hurt.
Bridget
12:15
And thank God she didn't have a P.K. but anyway, he had 18 shots on him and somehow he miraculously only let them shoot two in. And so I feel like if anyone deserves a favor in this game, it's going to be Chris Young. I don't know if anything, it's going to be Cali Colina. There you go. That's my favor.
Kara
12:33
I also thought he had a very good match. Probably not as much of a good match as you can say freeze had, but. Oh no. Um, because again, two goals against him, bless his heart, which I don't really. Those were hard goals, um, for him to get. And he had and he had hurt arm. He had a hurt arm. But he also like. It's hard to say. Precisely why he would he would stay in about that. Right. Part of it is because if you put in another goalkeeper, you know, they haven't they're not as hot as Kaleena, you know, as the first person in. And if you go out that chance, is that mean that the next goalkeeper in line is going to keep playing. And so if you if you want to play you're playing hurt. Yeah. To you know I think and I think also that's why Bingham wasn't getting warmed up and ready is first of all Dean Smith wasn't didn't seem to be worried and took enough to call for him. But you were. And yeah, we had to talk her down. I was just
Bridget
13:30
mad that I didn't care. And I'm over here like clean. I was down on the ground for a while, you know, and you're like, bro, like, if they would have called you in, you're over here seriously watching you out here, and you're not paying attention. Like he was smacking that gum so hard I could see, like I could hear the smack through the TV. And so I'm just sitting there thinking, bro, act like you want to be there and you care about cleaning. He didn't even care. He was just like,
Kara
13:57
I'm just gonna
Bridget
13:58
sit here. I don't know, I didn't mean he had to jump up and run around and do laps around the field or nothing, but at least act like you're on the ready if you get your number called. Yeah. If you if you're looking at, like comparing shots versus saves and things. It's true that New York it's 17 shots off and they had seven shots off on target five off and five blocked. Um whether it's by defense or Kalina Kalina only prevents he does prevent five. But as far as, like goals against our goals prevented, the ones that he prevents aren't as tricky I guess. Or hard to prevent as the ones that Matt freeze. Yeah.
Kara
14:40
Did for us. So. And not only that two of New York's hit woodwork. They had missed chances. But I do think like as far as like one on ones. I think there were a couple one on ones that absolutely clean. It was there to prevent. And with how much he was getting hammered with an injury, he does come out having a good game. Just
Bridget
15:03
I mean I don't think he's superstar heroes Brees. But I mean he pulled it through and he did what he had to do for the game. And I don't feel like it was his fault that we lost necessarily. So
Kara
15:13
yeah. And that that run out he made where he does get clattered into an injured like that was he he saved a few of those.
Bridget
15:22
Oh that run out. I would probably wrap them for that one. But it works.
Kara
15:25
So. And oh my
Bridget
15:28
God, he went way out to. I mean, he was way out. Oh my gosh, I'm about to. Yeah. He gave me her attack on that one. But I made it. So we made it through. But I was going to give him any favor to the crossbar because the crossbar was our friend as well. And he participated in the game. He was our 13th player, 12th player. However many we have on the team and I think the fans are the 12th. Right. And then so I'm going to go to the crossbar being the 13th and that's how I feel. I have no other favors.
Kara
15:56
Nice. I guess there's a few people I wanted to point out who were kind of different in this match, you know, that could have made it more unsteady, shall we say, that could have increased our chances of problems. Right? Or what a mistakes, whatever. One of the ones we've noted, like in the past where Nathan was typically, you know, before Yari came, Lindsey was in. Right? Yeah. And Nathan was typically taking left back while Lindsey took right back. And in this match, Lindsey, who's been playing right back while Nathan Burner has been out back in England, he comes in for Yari at left back. And as a kind of option like that, like in the past, last year would have been a lot more dangerous for Charlotte. There would have been more goals against, I think definitely. And for the most part in the second half we have better defense overall. Not I mean, yes, that goal happens in stoppage time. I don't think it's Lindsay's fault in that moment, but I still think he was very solid for having switched sides there. Not that he's not talented on both he is. But again, in that kind of a match with those kind of stakes, trying to keep that tie, essentially trying trying to prevent that. And New York had a number of times in that second half where their momentum was for them. I like Lindsay's work ethic there, and I think he has been good the last few games. So I just want to mention that the other two additions to the squad were junior Urso is back. We haven't seen him for a few games and I think here you know, he's taking Djibril spot, possibly because Djibril was needing a bit of a rest from the last game too. And I think what Urso gives this I mean, he, he does play differently. And I think in this option, like I think it was tactical. And I'll tell you why. Because the pitch is a lot smaller, which we've already harped on that. But Djibril is so tall and so long legged that he uses speed. He uses his body. He's very tall. He operates and needs to operate in more space. It seems like so in the closer spaces, which we know New York likes to use. I think that's the reason for junior, and I think he also he's a bit his physicality is just more different. He had an interesting slide tackle that I thought was really good. I also don't think that that yellow card was ridiculous on him in the moment he got it. There was another tough tackle later on that I think probably deserved the yellow card instead, instead of the one he got for the argument about him kicking the ball,
Bridget
18:42
he got one because he kicked the ball in the air like a moron. And you don't do that like you need to calm down, keep
Kara
18:47
composure. No no no no no. The guy whistles it in his legs already moving to kick the ball okay. It wasn't a reaction to the whistle even though that that seems like it could have been
Bridget
19:00
because you thought it was at first anyway too. Because I remember you told me that was a dumb mistake on his part. I
Kara
19:06
said if it was, I don't think he did that on purpose. Watching that back, I was like, this is silly. I think it was a dumb yellow card to give in general. Anyway, I liked having him in there. I thought he played well. I think that going against him was kind of tough, but he would have gotten it regardless. And then the other one to point out too, is that Nikola Petkovic has a starting opportunity. He played 60 minutes or so, and Bakhtiari comes in for him and Perkovich at the ten for that long. That hasn't happened before? No. What do you think about him in this match? Because right now this is the battle essentially for for Charlotte overall is who is our playmaker ten who was our creative driver of opportunities. And we haven't really had that person be be there in the way that they needed to be, because I think only in one match did that attacking midfielder get enough passes into the box, into that final third, and that was when Scott Arfield did it a few games ago. And then he got injured and he's been out. I
Bridget
20:12
don't really know what these numbers are that people talk about, but I think I do. I mean, I do know what a number ten is because Messi is a ten. So I try to figure like if Messi is a ten and other people need to do a messy, I don't even like messy. I don't know Kevin Ebron okay.
Kara
20:25
The attacking midfielder yeah like Katy B you know he's he's one of those people and he's very good. But anyway he can't all be Katie Meads. So I thought he did a good job for him being like his first like real serious you know what I'm saying. I'm doing it. And he's leading a bunch of guys that obviously we can't even get together when we have a Brit running it. So I think he did a very good job, considering I'm really ready for Ben Bender to come back and take over that role. But we still have a little while for that. And so Patrick's doing. I really think he did a decent job. You did better than Brett normally does. Sure.
Bridget
21:02
Didn't he have a shot too, or something? Long ago? I don't know. I don't think he did. Too bad. Yes.
Kara
21:07
Perfect shot. Mhm. I mean he didn't get off enough key passes here but I think that's I think that's a different statistic honestly. It might go into some of my, some of my Roths here. So I'm not going to go into it right now.
Bridget
21:24
Well now that we favored almost everybody on the team.
Kara
21:27
No, not a favor. Just like pointing out some things favored Kerwin. But I think it's it's there's other people had
Bridget
21:36
glances. There
Kara
21:37
were tactical reasons why I think they. Yeah, they got in
Bridget
21:41
there and we're going to do that. And then we have to say, Tiger, because you got to start, you know, not start, but you got to play in this first and last thing. And he did a good job. He had a shot that almost went in. So that was pretty awesome right. This was this week right okay. Yeah. Oh I can't tell. The losses just run together.
Kara
21:57
Amen for Leo. Sad to
Bridget
21:58
say. But he had a shot that almost went in and I thought, well, for his first time getting out there and taking shots. I like the young kids doing that.
Kara
22:07
Yeah, he had a dribble attempt and his passes were accurate and he generated some xG. You can't ask for much more from a brand new debut, especially one so young.
Bridget
22:18
And then he got to go play in the legacy game the next day. All
Kara
22:21
right. Let's get into the ugly. The
Bridget
22:23
good, the bad and the
Kara
22:24
ugly. Yep. Go for it.
Bridget
22:27
So I was gonna ask, but you took that away from me because you said he didn't do that bad, and I thought it was. I was just don't like it when they do purpose crap. You know, I'm going to give him many rats to actually Westwood solely for the fact that he needs to calm it down and not get another red yellow card. Sure. Like I don't think he did bad because I, like I told you, I liked his statistics and he did well. He's got the most whatever biggest chance is. 1s On my team. But I just think as a captain, you gotta know when to check. You know, check yourself before you wreck yourself. And he's about to wreck himself. So I'm going to give him a mini rath.
Kara
23:05
Yeah, I think he gets to yell. It's funny, because I think this is just the ref. I think the ref is just was just.
Bridget
23:11
He's a wee. Yeah.
Kara
23:12
Hyper like, don't you dare contradict me. And of course it went well for New York because they didn't really have any of that controversial calls.
Bridget
23:21
I'll tell you, that girl on the sideline was good, though. I liked her with her offsides real quick. She didn't. I wasn't indecisive or nothing. She was on point.
Kara
23:29
She was excellent. I would have
Bridget
23:31
liked her. But anyway, I digress.
Kara
23:34
Know about that was good. And because like, they're supposed to be calling that if they're certain that those offsides are offsides. Yeah, but a lot of people aren't that certain. And she was like, no, I got this. So yeah, it was it was refreshing. And I
Bridget
23:49
liked it anyway. Ashley. So you don't he said it himself, said that he was running his mouth. So but
Kara
23:57
I mean, I think he has an argument to make here. Honestly, I don't, I don't think it's really quite fair that the captain gets a yellow for this one because, I mean, it depends on his language, I don't know. I'm not going to speculate anything, but the captain's supposed to be arguing for it, and in the minute he gets it the 53rd minute, like there is a bad foul on Yari, and that's why he goes down. And then a few minutes later, like ten minutes later, that's when he comes out or something like that, 20 minutes later. So you got to think, okay, did that clattering that we didn't win a foul for that we absolutely deserved one. And that actually argues for gets the yellow. Did that lead to him being injured 1s actually in the back two I remember that foul at the beginning where that dude just like nailed him in the back. Maybe it was that same guy and I should've just done with it. And he was like, I don't know. I don't know. I just feel like now he, he was he had four games where he didn't have a yellow. So we were about to clear one off. And now we're two where he's at four and we're starting back over again. And I just feel like without him in a game is going to scare everybody. Because you know
Bridget
25:02
what? We're going to rely on Brett.
Kara
25:05
And I think Bronco is going to be in there for Ashley. Oh
Bridget
25:07
my lanta. I mean, I like Veronica and all that, but I don't know.
Kara
25:11
He's usually the captain when Westwood hasn't been and he's another midfielder. So I think you're going to see that if that happens is my thought or or Urso. I mean, I think Urso is wise enough that he might also be given it or burn.
Bridget
25:28
I mean, I can give a cat as long as someone other than the person in midfield, right? Well, no, I don't mean cat. Me give cat. I'm just saying who's going to play that spot to like make things happen in, in the midfield. So I'm trying to think about Veronica doesn't do the same thing Wesley does. I don't think he can. He can. But I just don't feel like what
Kara
25:45
he's asked for. Yeah. Anyway, let's hope we don't get there. Maybe he'll be on his best behavior. He told me that he's going to not play any different than normal. Just keep his mouth shut. Yeah,
Bridget
25:55
it's fingers crossed. But anyway, here's your wrath.
Kara
25:59
Okay, so I have one and a half, oh, one and a half. I'm sad about this first one, but I think it needs to be pointed out. I would say it's it's not meant ugly or negatively, but it is truth. So that's why it's coming out. So ooh, my wrath in this game goes to yell Tabata
Bridget
26:18
because. Oh, for being short, I'm just kidding. No,

I think he had I just think he had a bad game. And I wonder if this reason, like the reason why he doesn't get to really touch the ball. And for your IDPs when playing pretty well, he's got to touch the ball. And he just to me didn't have enough touches or enough crosses or connections or attempts overall. And. You know, for him to have maybe like 1 or 2 attempts and some missed. I just thought he didn't he didn't have a good enough game. And again, maybe that's because he was shut down easier because of how small it was. Like maybe he's used to being in those spaces. He was trying to ride that sideline and maybe he was just squished out of space. He likes to operate more. He is pretty quick. He's pretty small. And you know, that's maybe the type of player he is. So this one was tough for him. But you got to be thinking he's been a great threat and he's been pretty creative. He's got to get that ball and he's got to get that ball into good spaces. And this one he just didn't. And again, I'm not saying it's always his fault because it depends on who was passing to him. But he doesn't get very many touches in the first half. Overall I think most of his touches actually came in the second.
Bridget
27:37
Nah he he didn't. He doesn't superstar little. But I mean he had to figure out his game. That's going to slow it down. He's just got here a couple of weeks ago and he's been having stellar performance. Maybe the weather also affected all the little chilly up there too.
Kara
27:53
I just think that's a that's a problem. Like there's he should be having attempts and they didn't they didn't come off it. And there was one cross by Kerwin that comes in and neither or no by confetti. Confetti lifts the ball up into it in a great area. But neither Kerwin nor Leo run on it and it's just kind of wasted, wasted effort. I think they
Bridget
28:14
were all off a little bit. Some was some, some of them had them all.
Kara
28:19
Off. But are you ready for my second wrap? Yes. I
Bridget
28:24
am so ready.
Kara
28:25
I am wrapping how many offsides we had. Did you notice that? Oh
Bridget
28:31
no, I don't know. I was counting the yellows.
Kara
28:34
We had six six offsides
Bridget
28:37
because of Enzo. Confetti.
Kara
28:38
No, not all of them. He had
Bridget
28:42
four. Okay, well, that's 75% something.
Kara
28:45
But again, like, he is in good spots. He's getting those. It's just by a hair on some of them because he's receiving the past and and they're tricking him or something. Oh but this killer um. And the other two one's on Leo and one's on Yara, which is the one that possibly I think I think honestly, I thought the one on Yara was for Enzo, so that tricked me in the moment. Yeah. I wonder if he had let that go for confetti because it was going in a good spot. If Yara had not kicked it the second time, if we'd had just, that would have been a goal for him and that would have been our second goal. Yeah, I thought
Bridget
29:24
he was going to get that going. And I was like, yeah, right. Score. He didn't know it was offsides. So
Kara
29:30
many dagger offsides. But you got to think, okay, offsides don't count. Accepting offsides. Like even if you're getting in good spaces you're making those crosses. It's that little bit of receiving that don't get counted. You can't make shots on those. But it shows that we were trying something new. We were trying to get in behind. We're trying to make those attempts into the box. And maybe that's why we didn't have more shots because they were all getting stopped for offside.
Bridget
29:55
Oh. Do you have any other
Kara
29:56
apps? No. Um, anything else you want to talk about? This match? I'm trying to look. Let me double check.
Bridget
30:02
I just saw that Dane said that he thought we should have won this game. I don't know about all that.
Kara
30:06
Well, if you think about all the offside and the goal that gets called back, we didn't deserve to win it. You got to play better. You got to be smarter and use your brain. I don't know, I think that we just messed up. We had a lot of mistakes. They added up, they compounded. And I thought that Dean Smith, unfortunately, I love the guy. I really enjoy his pressers on Thursdays. He's he's such a hoot. But he has a lot of comments after pastors who sound a lot like what Larry said last year, and we gave Larry a really hard time about it. Well, we didn't,
Bridget
30:38
we didn't, but a lot of people did. And now Dean's saying the same thing. And so maybe, maybe, just maybe, it's not maybe something we need to look at internally. Let's call a spade a spade. If we go out there and we play like not good, let's say we didn't play good.
Kara
30:52
I mean, I think that was last week with Minnesota.
Bridget
30:55
He didn't say we didn't play good. He said, I take responsibility. And it was on a Sunday night. That was such a lousy response on a Sunday night. And the fans didn't come out
Kara
31:05
well because he says it's his responsibility, because he's the one that was supposed to direct them differently, and he's taking that on himself. Like that to me is ownership, because he's ultimately responsible. He didn't throw players under the bus
Bridget
31:18
like that's not his job. I used to never say that either. He would be like, well, you did good. I don't know what you're looking at. It's my fault. Nobody did wrong with him. The problem with, I think there's a difference here too, between. Dean Smith and how laddie handled it. Laddie did the same thing day in and day out. He did not change. He did not adapt. And I think the
Kara
31:37
difference in Dean is that he does. He does.
Bridget
31:40
It is very honest. I mean, like I said, on Thursdays, he's very open and honest and he'll tell you exactly what he's thinking, jokes and stuff like that. So I can't imagine doing that with laddie, but it's just some of the excuses after the game. You're just like, I want to hear the rawness or with the rawness. I'm with the truth. I want what you're telling the people in the locker room. We're not privy to that. Obviously. That's why we're not on the team. But that's what I want. Okay, give me some emotion.
Kara
32:06
Last year we were working with three DPS,
Bridget
32:09
right? We have no
Kara
32:10
like theoretically. And Carol was a proven goalscorer.
Bridget
32:14
I think somebody showed us that we have the same amount of goals this year as we did last year at this time. And that's not cool. It's not cool. It's always better. No,
Kara
32:22
but we have a lot more attacking chances than we ever did to or she is a lot higher.
Bridget
32:26
But I didn't want to say, I don't know. I don't want Carol back, okay? Because I'm not Carol. Say you don't like me or you don't say you don't like me personally, but you say don't like us. So you know I'm a stay. You can stay away. But I'm having to say, like, come on, you're not proving me right by getting rid of him. Now I'm looking like, full because I was all happy. Carol's gone and get a score, and we ain't got nobody
Kara
32:48
now. Yeah, but who are we relying on for our attack? Some young people, that's true. Like it's gonna take time. They are not proven. How many
Bridget
32:57
growing years do we have?
Kara
32:58
Goalscorers. How many growing years are we going to have? Well, we knew going into this one it was going to be a growing year. So why are you harping on it? I mean, like that's the thing is
Bridget
33:07
people can't get because they got my hopes up. I was doing so good. The first few games we like was doing great, was coming sixth in the standings. I'm all right. And I like who we've been and everybody thought we was. And then all of a sudden I just got slammed
Kara
33:20
better than people thought we were. Yeah.
Bridget
33:22
And then I got everybody to come back down. Right. I got knocked down real fast. It was like, you don't know. What the heck are you talking about, girl? Here we go. Bam! And I'm like. 1s Hearts can't take it. And then it was like, bam, here's another one. And I'm just like, don't break my heart. My achy breaky heart I just can't take it anymore. Like, you know what? Like that's how I'm feeling. So I'm hoping that next I'm gonna be positive. Okay, so I hope this thing's next. We got four of the next five at home. The fortress. It's going to be a little. Maybe raining 5050 rain on some Saturday night. Also for not the rain. 50 sides not. I'm hoping we win this night. At least we can win for the next five. I think we're good. Right,
Kara
34:02
Dallas? What? I hope, but okay. I want to go back some for a minute. Like I think we missed some things 2s I was just trying to forget.
Bridget
34:10
And we're going to this game. Let's all wear them forward.
Kara
34:14
But I think I want to point it out because I want us to notice some things differently from last year and and to this year, I guess. And not only that, but part of it's on Enzo and he's he's taken a lot of crap. So I want to point it out. Okay. So Enzo does get multiple attempts this this match and he's still doing his hold up play. But also he he does work a lot defensively. And in this match too he was like going wide I wonder like I don't remember us seeing Carol when Carol was at the nine. Him going as far wide and playing right winger as Enzo does. Like Enzo has a background in playing a winger, and so he favors he tends to favor the right side and getting into that space. He does try for multiple times in this match, but again they go off side. Ergh. But it's not like I never got offside before. But in this one he he got so many. So he's trying. His timing's not working out for him. They're they're getting those. And he's like uh you know he's not getting away with it. But maybe he will get away with it at some point. And the other thing too, is New York was taking a lot of shots outside the box. We typically know that. I mean, if they took it off of them, 1718 that those those actually are going to add up. So our defensively wasn't too bad, wasn't too leaky for what they got. And the other thing that I wanted to point out was the fact that at the end, you know, we had they score that second goal and like what the 40th minute. So then we have like 60 minutes at least, because of course we had that extra ten minutes on the first half. We go about 60 minutes almost without another goal. So we're still trying to get off attacking chances. And I would say even at the end where you kind of expected last year, maybe at the 70th minute or 80th minute right around there, that if it was laddie, he would have parked the bus. And I think that last goal happens because we're still going for goals. We're not going for just defending and settling for that tie. You could be right on that. Those are differences. They just percolate percolate them. Let's let's notice next time. That's kind of what I want to think about.
Bridget
36:26
Yeah. Now I got something to percolator on. It's going to be percolating Saturday night up in the house. You better hope it's not rained like, because then you're going to have to percolate with me. And that's going to be a scary situation. I'm scared.
Kara
36:38
Yeah, I'm not going to like that. If I have to stay out as long as that one match for Columbus, because at this baby at home, I can't be doing that. I'll have to go home.
Bridget
36:48
I don't think I would do that again. I was there for like four hours, but you were at least in the suites. I was down there in the freaking stairwell with all the people in the concrete and all. It was good times in the
Kara
36:59
city. Well, my kids were spending the night elsewhere, so I had no one to go home to. Or as you know, now we have to come home to the
Bridget
37:05
baby. Yeah, well, I like to just come home, period. That's why we stayed
Kara
37:10
there. We were like, well, we're just we'll party here. Maybe we might play some soccer. But it's all waited out and nothing else to do. We just go on the field. After the game, we got some reward for season ticket holders or something. So we're just going on the field after the games. That's why we waited and then they canceled it anyway. And then we were like, well, we just stayed five hours for no reason, so that was good to know. Oh
Bridget
37:30
sad. Yeah. But we got to do it another day anyway. Anything else you want to say about this game before we scoot on to Portland? I don't think we've ever played Portland, but
Kara
37:38
no, I don't think we played Portland here. Certainly like I haven't seen Portland play. I think we did go there once. Or maybe I'm thinking of Seattle, I don't know, I wouldn't I'd like to go to Portland at some point when we do. Yeah.
Bridget
37:53
I'm glad to go to Oregon. One day,
Kara
37:55
but it's really it's really funny the season that Portland is having. Their consistency has not been the same this year.
Bridget
38:02
Well, I just hope that we they don't come in here and break
Kara
38:04
records. That's true.
Bridget
38:06
Hopefully we'll do well this weekend. I think that the guy, the guys I'm calling guys instead of boys, look at me. The guys are going to want to show that they can win again. They have something to prove. Somebody when they come out here and they prove it to the fans. I hope that the supporter groups. I think that there's going to have a tailgate this weekend. I hope that we everybody rises above, gets together. We have our supporter section back the way it was prior to last week when it was raining and crappy outside. And I just hope we have a good game overall. And you get light savers at this game. May the 4th be with you. So you know and if you want to, you can start partying for Cinco de Mayo.
Kara
38:49
Yeah, but if you also buy tickets, you get a cool Star Wars shirt too. If you don't have tickets already,
Bridget
38:56
everybody loves those cakes. So if the lightsaber is as big a hit the cake. We're rolling on the goodies this year. I really think we're going to win this weekend. I'm going to hope for the
Kara
39:05
best. Yeah, you know what else I'm looking for? To I was assuming that, um, Portland would get. They just got a red card in the last match. I'm assuming that they'll that'll play out in the next match against L.A. instead of us this weekend. Um, but I guess we'll have to wait til that comes out. Um, for the disciplinary
Bridget
39:25
summaries. Disciplinary? Yeah. Poor Karen. Guess he's got to sit at home and watch the game. Probably somewhere in the suite or somewhere.
Kara
39:34
Let's go stink, I guess. I guess we'll get to see what new options we have this match. Yeah.
Bridget
39:39
Anyway, on that note, I'm about ready to wrap up so we can go to bed because I'm tired and we have a great week coming up and I hope everybody has a safe week. And we see you at the fortress on Saturday night, rain or shine after chance. You just you got to go with the flow. But
Kara
39:53
bring your ponchos. Definitely don't buy one. And then they get free ones because they gave free ones out last week. And my cousin, she just started going. She went to games ago and we lost. And she actually enjoyed that loss. Not that we lost, but she enjoyed the game. So she bought tickets to come last Sunday as well. So she came that and she lost again. So I think I'm going to tell her she's not allowed to come on Saturday. Um, although we have found a new fan. Um, she loves the team now. I already bought the jerseys and everything. Second game. She's all wrapping it. We like that though. I do like that. But if she's jinxing us, then she's going to need to stay at home. And, um, let us figure this out.
Bridget
40:30
But I do think it's nice that we have new fans and that are coming in and and we're still growing as a team. We got some great people on our team. So we have to see out there Saturday night and until then, be safe.
Kara
40:42
Thanks for listening. Have a great week. Bye bye.
