Welcome to the Mindset Academy. This is the place where your excuses they come to die and your potential finally wakes up. I'm your host, Terrence Fagan, and I'm here to help you break your limits, level up your mindset, and actually live the life you keep on talking about. Look around here, we do not do fluffy motivation, we do real talk, proven tools, and a powerful conversation with people who've been through it and came out winning. So I want you to buckle up because we're diving into the psychology, the grind, and the glory of becoming your best self. This is the Mindset Academy. Class is officially his touching. What up, what up, what's up, man. If you're a Martin fan, you know exactly how that intro goes, man. But really, what's up with y'all? You know, this is a very exciting podcast episode for me today. And to be real, I feel like all of them are exciting for me, but you know, this one really hits home because it's really helping you to use a very specific, simplified way of achieving your goals. And man, we all have goals, we all got something we want to achieve in this life, whether it's getting that girl you like, getting that car you want to drive, get in that house you dreamed of, getting that job you've always wondered if you could actually get, you know, and it could always be down to something even smaller, getting a pair of shoes you never thought you can get, man. But I'm calling this episode five keys to achieving your goals, and most people always ignore this. Most people don't fail because they can't achieve their goals. You know why they fail? I'm a Delhi. They fail because they never actually decide on what they want. When I say decide, I mean being very specific. Like there's too many people that have a lot of vague thoughts, and not to get technical on here and on here and nuke it, like we like to say in the Navy. Don't nuke it, but bro, think about the thoughts that you have day in and day out. It's a billion, trillion, gazillion thoughts going on in your mind every single day, every single hour you're thinking about something new, every single minute you're thinking about something new or something different, or actually 90% of the thoughts that you have on a daily basis really come from the day before. So that's why people always get in cycles, right? People always like to say, I want success, I want more money, I want to get in shape, but what does it actually mean? It's all vague. It's nothing that's really clear. The vague goals are creating vague results. Your life is not random, dog. Your life is not random, my girl. Your life is very structured. If you're stuck, one of these five areas is off. And today we're gonna break down the five keys that separate people who dream from people who actually achieve. People who actually know what they want out of their lives are always gonna be people who achieve. Think about it. Think about those people around you. It may be some people like you think about, you be like, man, this motherfucker living a life. This motherfucker doing the right thing. They healthy, they wealthy, they doing everything right. You know why? It's because they following these five keys. So, not to delay it anymore, let's get right into the first one. And make sure you got your popcorn, make sure you got a pen and pencil because I ain't doing this for my health, I'm doing this for your wealth, I'm doing this so that you can prosper. I'm doing this so I can get better. I'm doing this so, you know, life just feels good, you know. But one thing I want you to know before I get in this, and I guess I am delaying it success is not final, and failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts. It's all about the journey, okay? So you're getting ready to go on a journey. So, now, number one, I need you to know exactly what you want out of this life. As I said, number one, super simple and easy, but you have to be specific. You know, I'm gonna tell you about something that I did a while back, actually a couple years ago now. I made a gold board, me and my wife, my kids, they all make gold boards. Um, each one of them separately, Maya Morgan, me and my wife, we made one together, and we put two vehicles on there. One of them was the vehicle that I have, which is a Sevi Tahoe C71. It was white, and my kids, they put like straight A's, Dancer, all of those things have happened for them. But I want to really target in on what I want to talk about today. And my wife, she actually put her vehicle on there, which is um a um a Benz, right? A uh GLE 350 or whatever it is, right? We put these vehicles down, and I'm telling you, my brain started to see these vehicles everywhere. I'm talking about as I rode, drove them to school, I would see multiple of these vehicles. As I rode on the road, I would see these vehicles. I remember we even went to SeaWorld and we parked right next to one. I said, that's exactly what I want. Talking about it had the the red toying hitches in the front, the Z71, the body style. It was all the same. And you know what happened? My car started to break down. The car that I was driving at that time, it was like a Tahoe. It was, you know, it was it was still in good shape, but all of a sudden it started to break down. Boom, boom, boom. Every other day it would just start breaking down. And I'm like, man, something is happening. I don't know what's happening, but I'm getting closer to the go. I'm getting closer to the dream. So it ended up really breaking down. We are all on the side of the road. We're actually going to look at vehicles, which is kind of crazy. We're going to look at vehicles. It broke down on the side of the road. I had to get the vehicle towed to the dealership. Me and my family followed there, followed me there. And lo and behold, at a Chevy dealership, the exact car that I wanted was sitting right there in front of me, and I was able to get it. Same thing happened to my wife. You know, her car didn't actually break down, but we went to the dealership. We seen that exact car that we used done. But this is the thing, the year before we even got that car and before we even put it on our actual goal board, she sat in the car. She sat in the car, she felt it, she smelled it, put her hands on the steering wheel, and lo and behold, voila popped up in the driveway. So, what I want to tell you today is most people they're gonna think that they know what they want, but they're not being specific enough, specific enough. You have to be more specific on the thing that you want so that your brain can turn on the reticular activating system. You probably like, man, you're getting a little big here, you're getting a little big-headed, but really no, think about it. When you see something that you want, your brain is going to target that using this actual specific system in your brain. The reticular activating system, you have to focus on what you want and be specific because your brain is going to target that. So instead of saying you want more money, you got to get so specific to say, I want 20,000 a month, 10,000 a month, 5,000 a month extra. I want to get healthy. No, I want to be specifically fitness and losing weight, 20 pounds. I want to get my my miles under 10-minute miles. The lack of clarity is going to lead to inconsistency, procrastination, and a lack of urgency. As soon as you get to that lack of urgency, as soon as you start sitting on your hands, soon as you start becoming inconsistent, that's when your results start to decline, brother. That's when your results start to decline. Don't let your results decline, and it will be because of these three things: inconsistency, procrastination, and a lack of urgency. So don't be the type of person that avoids specific things. Because being specific is going to create that accountability. If your target is unclear, you won't hit the target. You can't fail if you know what your target is, but you also will win if you know exactly where you want to shoot towards, if you know exactly the aiming point, your brain is a cerebral mechanism. It is going to point you in the right direction. It's like a missile. Your brain is highly skilled, man. This has been created from God. There's so many different components that I want to talk about, really, that I've just been learning through the multiple resource resources, the books, the cohorts, the seminars. Like I've learned so much about just our brain. And I'm not saying I'm a scientist, I ain't saying I'm a neurosurgeon. I'm not saying any of that. But what I have learned is that we are very, very special. But the world, the government, and everything around us really holds back what our power is. But I'm telling you this if you have vague goals, you're going to form a lot of inconsistency. But if you have clarity, it's going to create responsibility. So I'm encouraging you right now, while you're listening to this, write down exactly what you want in your life. It has to be measurable and detailed. Alright, now let's move on to number two. You might have heard this before if you've read the book Think and Grow Rich. It's one of the main factors to achieving your goal, and it's to have a burning desire. You know, E.T. is famous for the one speech where he says, Go out to the beach. Um, he was with the guru. Guru told him to get in the water, go all the way down until pretty much his head is is you know inside the water. And he said, you know, as you're gasping for air, trying to really live and to breathe, when you come up, and as bad as you want to breathe, as bad as you want to breathe, or as bad as you want to breathe to get to the goal that you want, that's when you'll have it. You have to have a burning inclination in your mind. It is really an obsession. Really, just being interested is not enough. You need to be obsessed. It is an obsession that you have. My middle daughter Morgan, she has an obsession with dance. You have to know the difference, bruh. If you don't know the difference, you won't succeed. See, listen, think about this. There is a difference between, yeah, I would love to have that, to where I need this. Someone on the streets that is homeless and desperate and wants something and needs something, they need this. And this might sound bad, but let's get real here. Why do you think crackheads always succeed? Let's think like crackheads always get cracked, uh, regardless of how much money they got on, how hungry they are, how sick they are, they're gonna always go towards that addicting factor because they need this. You need to be so obsessed, so much in involved in what you want, it is an addiction for you. And again, I'm if that hurt anyone's spirit, I'm just only giving an example here. But I'm from a place where I'd have seen a bunch of them, so I know exactly what it means to have an addiction. You probably have an addiction. How bad do you need that thing that you want? And as badly as you need it, you're gonna find it. But having a weak desire for something that you want is only going to lead to weak execution. Desire is going to fuel your discipline when a motivation is disappearing. We always say this motivation is dead. There is no motivation. I don't get motivated. I create habits, I create consistency, and I create a love and a passion for what I want and an obsession for what I want, the obsession to be a great speaker, the obsession to want to create this business, the obsession to want to help others. You know, you can't have competing priorities because it destroys focus. What is focus? Follow one course until successful. You know, comfort is really going to weaken your urgency, and many people they quit. Why? Because they don't like the idea of what they're doing, but they don't really truly want the outcome, and it's because they're comfortable. They don't really want it, they don't have an obsession with it. You have to have a burning obsession with the thing that you want. If it's optional for you, you're gonna treat it like it's optional. But the desire is going to determine the endurance. If you don't raise your goals, you'll fail to your level of commitment. You're gonna fail to your level of commitment. You have to raise your goals, they have to be scary, they have to stretch you, you have to have an obsession with it, you have to be thinking about it all the time. There's so many things out there that I've wanted badly enough that I pushed through and gotten. I remember working, I remember being at school, college, and I had just transferred from Central State, man, and I had some buddies that was like, Man, you ain't gonna graduate. This is when we was at Eastern. I'm like, please. I used to go to that school every single day, and I would look up at the building. So I remember this. I said, I am going to conquer you. This is a business building at EMU. I said, I am gonna conquer you. Ended up passing college, you know. I think I probably left with like a 3.0, but I had a burning desire. It wasn't optional for me to not graduate. I didn't treat it like an option. I had a desire to want to finish. I had a desire to push through no matter how bad those classes were, no matter how much studying I had to do, no matter how much I had to be in the library. I knew I knew that I would make it happen. Let's focus on number three now, which is know your why. You have to know and have a reason why you get out of bed. Ask five people that you you you know. Ask five random people that you don't know. Why do you get out in the bed in the morning? Most people are gonna say, oh, it's because I gotta work. Oh, I don't know why I get out of bed in the morning. You know why 95% of the men in this world won't be successful, and only five percent are, maybe even one percent is is ultra, you know, successful. It's because they don't have a why. What keeps you moving when things get difficult? You know what gets me out of bed at five in the morning is the goals that I have to wake up, give God his time, to write about my motivation for my future, to keep influencing my brain, to vibrate on a higher level to get the successes that I want in life. Why do I get out of bed at five in the morning when I can just hit the alarm and get up at six or get up at eight? Why do I get up? Because I have children who depend on me to feed them, because I have goals of making sure that my wife doesn't have to work, making sure that we can retire at an early age. Why, why, why? Your why has to keep you moving when things get difficult, and understand it will get difficult. It always gets difficult, dog. That don't mean you give up, that don't mean you take yourself out, keep yourself in the game. You don't stop when it's you don't you don't stop in the middle of the fire. You keep running through the fire, you keep tossing yourself through the fire, you keep getting up because that means at the end of it, you will be better, you'll be stronger. You have to have a strong emotional reason to create consistency. Your why could be just as I said family, legacy, freedom. It even be it can even be pain. You know, providing something to yourself. You can even use it as a chip on your shoulder. You know, a lot of guys in the NFL they get drafted late and they say, I got a chip on my shoulder. These guys said that I wasn't the best. Okay, I'm gonna prove to them. I'm gonna show them. And those people that always have a chip on their shoulder, they always end up becoming great. They always end up becoming the best. They work harder. They have a why. Why do you want to be the best? For your mother, your why must be personal, man. I want to prove to them that I can do this. Your why must be so impactful that when you get up in the morning, it's like it's time to go. It is time to go. It's time for me to show these people what it means. It can't be borrowed emotion. Nah. Borrowed emotion fades so quickly, it goes away so fast, and then you're stuck wondering what you need to do, or when it's cold outside, you're like, ah nah, it's good, I'm good. It's cold. Logic alone won't keep you disciplined, dog. It has to be personal. So when your why is weak, your excuses, they get strong. They get stronger and they get stronger. Once you hit that sluice button once, you're gonna do it again. Once you quit once, you're gonna quit forever. You have to stay consistent because of the emotion and not logic. If you stay consistent, you'll build the habits, and your why has to be bigger than your discomfort. The why has to be bigger than oh, I'm sore. The why has to be bigger than oh, I'm tired, or the why has to be bigger, oh, I just don't feel like it. No, man. You focus on your emotions, you focus on the reasons why it may not work for you. Focus on the reason why it will work for you. Your why has to be big. Man, I remember I got a lot of stories, man. That's why I like this podcast because I get to express myself. So if you're still listening, man, I want to say thank you again. You know, we're almost 20 minutes in, and you listening and you learn in and you developing you know habits and you developing overall knowledge and these keys to really learn and to build. And man, it's it's um it's a beautiful thing to be able to do what you love and to be able to help and express yourself. Then I hope you find that thing that you love to do for yourself and express yourself as well. Because in the journey, man, it's all about the journey, it's all about building yourself, it's all about determining what is the factors to move yourself forward. Now, let's get in number four. Let's get in number four. Okay, number four. Let's recap really quickly. All right, so number one is you have to know exactly what you want, you have to be specific, you have to have a burning desire, which is number two, number three, know your why, dog. Know your why. Number four, plan, fail, adjust, execute. Success is not about having a perfect plan, success is about staying in motion, and as I said before, slow motion is better than no motion. Keep yourself moving, keep your eyes focused on the target. If you go and focus on the target, no matter what you go through, the hills, the valleys, the journeys, the rain, the snow, the steaming hot sun, the frigid air, coldness. If you focus on that goal, the journey is what brings you back here. All right, so let's focus on this. Step one: I need you to create a simple plan. This does not have to be overcomplicated in the beginning. It'll get there as you start to grow and you start to level up. Just create a simple plan. Simple, whatever it is. And if you you don't know the steps, go look at somebody else that is living a life, and I'm pretty sure they'll tell you the different steps that they went through in order to really get to their overall success. Number two is that you have to take action quickly, action creates clarity because as you're going, as you See one foot in front of you, the next step starts to appear. You have to take action, you know. You have to move, you cannot stay still, you cannot have analysis paralysis, you have to move. Step three expect failure. Failure is a part of life, rejection is a part of life. Get denied by that fine little thing you always said you wanted. It's part of your life. But failure is a part of the process. Be okay with it, accept it, learn from it. Number four is that you have to adjust and continue. Learn and refine as you go. Learn and refine as you go. Have a deep dive, alright? Let's take a deep dive, okay? Most people they are going to stop after the first setback. As soon as they get hit with that first up, nah, I don't think this for me. I remember we had this dude on my football team, man. He was a real skinny dude. He got hit one time. Bam! He said, Ah, nope. Took the pads off. He said, Yeah, this is my last practice. I don't think y'all ever seen him back on the football field again. Because he wasn't prepared. He wasn't okay with it. He wasn't alright with getting hit and learning, like, okay, I need to get stronger in this area in order to really prevent myself from getting hurt. You have to do the same thing. Prevent yourself from getting hurt. Be okay with taking that lake. High performers, they're going to expect problems, but you have to adapt. If you're a high performer, expect a failure, but then adapt. So your first plan, realize this, it may not work. Man, hell, I done had 30 of them. But that's cool. The point is the process. Learning how to fail and to keep going. See, the failure is just feedback. It's not the final answer, dog. Execution is going to be your perfection every time. So plan. It may not work. The failure is going to be the feedback. It's not the final answer. Keep going and executing. And I guarantee you, a couple days, a couple weeks, a couple months, couple years, eventually it's going to work. Stop waiting for the perfect time. It's going to work. Do it now. Do it now. Do it right now. While no one is looking, nobody is going to cheer you on. Be okay with that. No one is going to be there to help you. There is no one in this garage with me that has the idea of building this business and this vision that I see for myself. There is no one around here. But get what? There's going to be people working for me. There's going to be people helping me. There's going to be people listening. There are going to be people watching. And those people are going to watch in amazement and say, Wow, he came up overnight. Wow, he's so amazing. Wow. This guy is the greatest. You know what it is? It leads into my next part, which is five. And it's belief. Your self-belief is going to determine your behavior. You hear me, my voice. My belief created the result to sit down here and create this podcast today. Your results are always going to be based off of what you believe and what you think. What you think and you believe is always going to move your body. If you don't believe something is possible, you're going to hesitate. I could have hesitated today. You're going to have self-sabotage. You're going to have that little voice in your head that says, Man, hey, it's cool, bro. Don't do it, man. Somebody hear you next week. Nah. You got to control that little voice in your mind. You got to control that person that's trying to take you out. You got to control the comfortable you. Confidence is not required to start. None of this requires confidence. But belief is going to push you through the action and it's going to create the evidence. Waiting to feel ready is going to keep you stuck. Do not wait to feel ready. You'll never ever be ready. You will never ever outperform your self-belief for long. Doubt is going to kill more dreams than failure ever will. Belief isn't something you wait for, it's something you build, dog. Hear me today. It's something you build. What would you do differently if you fully believed in yourself? What would you do? So much more that you can do in this life. It's so much more that you can gain out of this life. There's so much that you could do if you just only believed. Think back on your life. What have you not believed in? If you believed in yourself, how much further could you have gone? Shoot. If I believed in myself 10 years ago, I'll be way further along than I am right now. But I had a lot of self-doubt. I thought that somebody should be in here applauding me, sitting. No. When you're on that journey and you build in, man, you're lucky to have somebody that's besides you lucky to have a parent that's there pushing you. It's not about that. It's not about that. Believe in yourself. Push yourself. Alright. So let's get ready to close this all up. Let's do a quick recap. Number one, clarity to desire, why? It's number three, execution four, and finally, belief. Now, as I said before, most people they want better lives, but they're missing one or more of these five keys. But you have to put them all together in order to really unlock the life that you want. And if you take one away, even just a burning desire, that's why you're gonna stay stuck to where you are. I need you to use them all. And again, as I said before, your future is not random, it's built on what you decide to commit to. You don't need more time, you need alignment. So I want to encourage you today. If you are needing alignment, I want you to go to my Instagram, DM me, and say, coach, help me out here. And I'm gonna send you a link, I'm gonna send you some information to really set up a consultation to work with me. You can listen to me or watch me on YouTube. Check out some of the links, check out some of the videos, plenty of information to really help you to master your mindset. This is what it is all about mastering your mind to get the things that you want out of life. So change your mindset and change your life. This is the mindset academy where growth begins from within. Thanks for listening. I'll talk to y'all soon.
