The person you are today is not the final version of you.
In this powerful episode of The Mindset Academy, Terrence Feagin dives deep into the process of transformation, growth, discipline, and becoming. Too many people settle into their current identity and believe their limitations are permanent — but the truth is, your greatest potential is still waiting to be unlocked.
This episode explores the internal battle between comfort and growth, why pain often becomes the catalyst for evolution, and how your habits, mindset, and daily decisions are shaping the person you’re becoming.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, doubting yourself, or questioning your progress, this conversation will remind you that growth takes time — and the strongest version of you is built through struggle, discipline, and persistence.
Inside this episode:
- Why most people stop evolving too early
- How pain can transform your mindset and identity
- The war between your old self and your future self
- Practical ways to build discipline and confidence
- Why consistency creates your “final form.”
You are not finished growing.

Welcome to the Mindset Academy. This is the place where your excuses they come to die and your potential finally wakes up. I'm your host, Terrence Fagan, and I'm here to help you break your limits, level up your mindset, and actually live the life you keep on talking about. Look around here, we do not do fluffy motivation, we do real talk, proven tools, and a powerful conversation with people who've been through it and came out winning. So I want you to buckle up because we're diving into the psychology, the grind, and the glory of becoming your best self. This is the Mindset Academy. Class is officially in session. What is up, my beautiful people? Thank you again for being a listener to the Mindset Academy. And this is a very, very special episode. Yes, I say that every single episode. Because anytime I get on here and I get an option and I get a chance to speak to you about something that I know is gonna uplift your soul and your spirit and your body and your mind and your life you got, man, it's always gonna be a beautiful day. So what I have for you today is titled, you haven't met your final form yet. Just think about that. You haven't met who you're working to become. You haven't met that person that you want to see in the mirror. See, that person you are right now is not the final version of you. Most people think that this is all they'll ever be. Same mindset, same habits, same limits. But what if I told you that there's another version of you waiting on the other side of growth? Like, there's a stronger version of you, a more disciplined version, a more confident, a more focused version. You haven't met that final form yet because life is trying to build you into it. But see, most people stop evolving. People physically age, but mentally and emotionally, they stay the same year after year. Same excuses, same fear, same routine, same comfort zones. Most people stop growing after failure or even disappointment. They get hit one time and bam, they out for the rest of their life. They like I can't do it no more. They accept the limits that they were never meant to be permanent. But see, your current identity is not your permanent identity. It's not. The person you are today was built by repetition day after day, habit after habit, step after step. And that means you can rebuild yourself to be who you want to be. See your brain adapts based on behavior, habits, they shape your identity, repetition, it creates your personality. Pain is trying to evolve you, but you always want to avoid pain. Stop. Now don't get me wrong, I ain't talking about going out here and inflicting pain, bodily harm. No, but pain is not always meant to be punishment. Sometimes pain is transformation, breakups, failures, financial struggles, rejection, loneliness. Man, we've been through it all. We've been through it all. And I think that's the real part about human life. You have to struggle, you have to go through these things in life in order to be able to say, man, God, thank you. God, thank you for taking me through that because it's made me a better person. See, the pain forces awareness of what God's true love is. But I'm not gonna get on here and preach. I want to talk to you about how pain breaks the old version of you, pain exposes your weaknesses, dog. But see that pressure, as we know, pressure creates diamonds. Growth often feels like destruction before it even feels like transformation. Think about all the things and the pain and destruction you had to go through before you became that new person. All the the issues, the the failures. See, your hardest seasons are often your rebuilding seasons. But so many of us want to have instant gratification. We want to reap before we've even sold. That's not how the journey goes, dog. That's not how it goes. See, pain has changed me mentally. I remember getting rejected from so many different things, whether it was women in the past, or if it was jobs in the past, or if it's it, it whatever it was, it fueled me to work harder. I just recently got rejected from USC PhD program, man. I was really looking forward to becoming a Trojan, but guess what? I guess I ain't for now. But that rejection is not stopping me from going out there and applying for other schools. Hell, I might even come back around and reapply for them again. But see, the pain has to fuel you. The pain of saying that, oh, you don't want me now? Okay, all right, that's your loss. I'm gonna gain. That's your loss. This is how I win. This is how I take over. Your final form requires a different you. So look at the person in the mirror right now. Do you like that person? I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't like the person that I'm looking at right now. No, it's not because of my mindset. No, it's not financially, no, it's not the habits that I built up. It's because it the person that I am right now is gonna require change to become the person that I envision myself to be in the future. So, no, I'm not happy with that because the person that I'm about to be in the next couple years, few years is gonna have to morph. I'm gonna have to lose weight, I'm gonna have to continue to read, I'm gonna have to stay up late hours. I am not happy where I am because I know my final destination is bigger. See, so many of us are comfortable with where we are instead of being in pain and forcing a change. See, your dream is gonna require a higher version of yourself. My higher version of myself is not who I am right now. I really hope y'all understand this. If you want to be a new version of yourself, you're gonna have to discipline yourself. You're gonna have to have emotional control, you're gonna have to have focus and standards, bruh. You cannot build a new life with an old mindset. The old mindset that you currently have right now, if you do not force changes of habits, discipline, emotion, focus in your standards, your same person is going to be who you want to be in the next five to ten years or even the rest of your life. If you do not change it, you will continue to be the same individual day after day. So ask yourself, are you happy with who you are? If you are not, let's keep listening. Because I'm about to show you how. You know, a lot of people they want results without having an identity change, and that's what I'm talking to you about. The pain of switching who your identity is. You know, Neville Goddard talks about the law of assumption. Whoever you assume that you are, you will become and you will be. They want success without sacrifice. That's not how God intended this world to go. That's not how the laws of the universe work. Your next level is going to require a new mindset. You can't become extraordinary with an average habit that doesn't work like that. Do you want to be great? Do you want to be golden? Do you want to be legendary? If you don't, why are you even listening to this? I appreciate you for listening. But if your mindset is, I don't want to be legendary, I don't want to, I'm okay with being average, whoop-dee-doo. You know, but we looking to move further in life. Because the tombstone, when you die, should say this man fought to be legendary. Hold on, hold on, hold on. I'm gonna stop this episode right here for one second. This is not a commercial, it's not for sponsors. I don't have any sponsors. I'm stopping it because I need to say something directly to you. I mean you, the person listening to this right now. If you've been listening to the Mindset Academy for any amount of time, whether this is your first episode or your 15th, there's a reason you keep coming back. It's not because you need more information, you have more than enough information. You keep coming back because something in you know that there's a version of you, your business, your leadership, your confidence, your life that you have not yet stepped into. And you're trying to close that gap. See, I understand. Here's what I've learned from coaching entrepreneurs and leaders, and what nobody in the personal development space will say out loud. Podcast, books, courses, YouTube videos, they can give you the framework, but they cannot give you that shift that you're looking for. The shift, the actual change in how you see yourself, how you carry yourself, how you make decisions, how you lead. That doesn't happen from consumption. It happens from confrontation. Confrontation with the story you've been telling yourself, confrontation with the belief that's been quietly running your business behind the scene, confrontation with the version of you that's been playing it safe and calling a strategy. I want to ask you something I've never asked a regular episode before. How long have you been running and living under the same ceiling? The same revenues, the same level of confidence, the same patterns showing up in your team, same decisions you keep not making, the same version of yourself running the same playbook, how long? How long has it really truly been? Six months, a year, three years? How long has it been? And how much of that ceiling is costing you, not just in money, but in time and opportunity in the life that you have on pause while you're trying to figure it out? That's not judgment, that's a question. I've had to sit with this myself, and I tell you it's a lot, and it's the question that had led me and led me to building Elevate 6. See, Elevate Six is my private one-on-one coaching program, and I want to tell you that what it actually is, because it's probably not what you think coaching is. It's not me giving you a strategy, it's not me holding you accountable to a checklist, it's a direct, private, weekly partnership where we go after a specific belief, the specific patterns, and the specific internal blocks that have been setting a ceiling on every area of your life. And then we break right through it. And it's not over years, it's not over months, sometimes it's over weeks. I've watched people who have been stuck in the same income level for three years, close their biggest deals ever in just 90 days. I've watched leaders who couldn't hold a team together build a culture that their people actually fight to be a part of. I've watched entrepreneurs who second guess every price they set to start to change what their actual worth is without apology and without having to close more clients that they ever had to do without actually overcharging. Not because I give you something new to do. Nah. It's because we change who they actually were, and when their identity changes, everything changes. The strategy, the confidence, the results, it's all of it. So now I want to ask you here is who elevate six is actually for. It's for the person listening to this podcast, which tells me you already know the inner work is real and it's necessary. And you're ready to stop consuming and start to transform. It's for the entrepreneur who is generating revenue but knows that they're operating at 60% of what they actually can be capable of. It's for the leader who is performing with confidence externally and carrying something completely different internally. It's for the person who is done waiting for the right moment. Because here is what I know after coaching hundreds of people, the right moment never comes on its own. You have to make it. Again, this is an investment for the LV6. I want to work with you. I want to show you, but before you do anything, before you even pay a single dollar, I need you to start with a 30-minute discovery call with me directly. No sales pressure, no salespeople, no pitch. It's just an honest conversation on what is in the way of what you are doing, and is this even a right fit for you? If not, I'll tell you. It's a promise. The link to apply is in the show notes. It takes two minutes to fill out, and personally, I review every single application within 48 hours. If this is something that you truly, absolutely want, I want you to take that step. All right. Now I appreciate you letting me step into this episode for a second. This program means everything to me, and the people inside it are some of the most confident, committed, high-caliber people I've ever been with in a room. If you belong in that room, I'll see you there. Now let's get back to the episode. And he got mighty damn close. Legendary. I want to be legendary. I want to be a great father, great husband, a great businessman. I want these things. So that forces me to wake up at 5 a.m. That forces me to stay up when everybody else around me is sleep. That forces me to create podcasts, YouTube videos, shorts, on multiple different social media accounts. What is the war that you're facing? What is the war that you're allowing to roar in between your two ears and behind your eyeballs? What is the war that you're facing? That war should be old you versus new you. See, growth is going to create that internal conflict, and you gotta be willing to fight. Because the old self wants that comfort, it wants you to be comfortable. But see, the new self, it wants growth, it wants you to move, it wants you to not be okay, it wants you to look yourself in the mirror and say, I'm not comfortable with who I am. It wants you to. But see, the old habits and your old way, your old self will pull you back to that couch and say, Man, it's cool, pull up that drink, man. You know, this weekend is Memorial Day weekend, and my daughters had a um dance convention down at Downey, Los Angeles, about an hour away from us. And you know, we got some friends that that are there that are in the uh, you know, dance dads, dance moms. And we typically drink, we drink when we go. But this weekend, it was the first time I really told them, like, hey man, I'm disciplined, I'm locked in, I'm not drinking, I'm eating correctly. Hey, this is not me, you know? And I know for, you know, it's a change. It's a change. And at first I started feeling like, damn, man, you know, I'm feeling bad because I'm kind of I ain't no party pooper for sure. But dog, I'm locked up, I'm locked in. I'm locked in, yo. Nothing is gonna take me away from that until I get the results that I have. And you should be the exact same way. Lock in. It's a daily battle sleeping versus being disciplined, eating, drinking when you're supposed to be fasting and not eating crazy shit. Fear versus opportunity, excuses or execution. I could have had excuses. Oh, it's the holiday weekend. It's okay, let me have one or two drinks. No, I'm executing on what my goals are. I'm executing on who I am, and I had plenty of amount of fun. I had tons of fun. Not right now. I'm locked in. I don't give a damn what holiday is because the body is gonna be a way better outcome. It's gonna be a way more it's I'm just gonna be in a better shape. I'm gonna be I'm just gonna be locked in, dog. If you are ready to lock in, you have to understand that transformation is uncomfortable. You're gonna have to be in situations and around people, and it's gonna be uncomfortable because your identity is changing, bruh. Your identity is becoming something new. So the old people that used to be around may not understand it because this is who you used to be. But if you really want to lock in, you gotta change it. Not saying like the people that I'm around, they're great people. I only hang around great people. But my things, the thing that I'm having, the habits that I've had are are changed. See, you're facing habits that are built on your current life, and every decision is gonna feed a version of you, but one version wants comfort and one wants greatness. Which one are you willing to give into? The comfort because it's easy, or the greatness? But the greatness is going to be hard, it's gonna be difficult, it's gonna be a struggle, it's gonna be a challenge, it's gonna be discipline, it's gonna be times when everyone is out to eat, drinking, and having a great time, and you sipping water, and you eating your vegetables and your steak and your your carbs. What is it gonna be? Are you willing to sacrifice? So now listen, here's how you build that final form, and I really hope you get this, okay? Step one I need you to raise your standards, stop tolerating the small life, stop tolerating the little life, stop tolerating mediocracy, stop it. Your life rises or falls based on what you tolerate. Number two, I need you to build that discipline up. I need you to build it as high as you possibly can as a brick wall. Because discipline is gonna create the identity, the new identity that you're forming. I need you to keep your promises to yourself. I need you to keep to your schedule. It's non-negotiable. See, doing hard things consistently, that's what shapes you into being the person you want to be. Discipline is self-respect and action. So if you're gonna respect someone outside of yourself, why not respect yourself? It's a must. As I said before, it's non-negotiable. Step three I need you to face your fear. See, fear is a direction. Starting content, speaking up, taking risks. There's plenty of things that we fear as human beings. There's plenty of you know opportunities that we can step into, but so many of us are afraid of it. See, fear is the direction you need to go into. I'm not talking about creating danger, I'm talking about stepping into fear. Your next level is hiding behind the fear, the discomfort, the embarrassment that you're unwilling to go after. Control your mind is step four. See, thoughts shape our action. I just created a video about this. You have to control your mind because the thoughts are going to create your results. What do you say to yourself when no one else around or in the conversation that you don't understand or that you're not conscious of? What you're saying to yourself and what you say about yourself is creating your world. The negative patterns. The mental discipline that you are not creating for yourself, these are what are controlling your world. You gotta become what you repeatedly think and do. That's what life is. You become what you repeatedly do and think of. So, what do you do? Look at it, look at your life. What did you do today? What did you do multiple times a day where you was just like, ah, there's a habit, I want to break this. Ah, I do those same things, but I take awareness of it and I change it if I don't want it. Step five, stay consistent long enough till you become big enough. Transformation takes time, bro. Rome wasn't built in a year, Rome was built over decades. Your life will be built over time. You have to stay consistent long enough to see the results. Your final form is built daily, not overnight. Not overnight. I've been on this change of mindset, change of diet, change of my habits for a long time, but I've really locked in now on the gym and my workouts, and you know, and I was just telling myself, like, bro, the scale is not gonna change in two weeks. We're gonna see what it looks like in six months on this, and then we will be okay with it. Then we will say, okay, yes, this works. But see, most people quit before they even meet who they could have become. Because they are so easily fragile and so easily broke up. People stop too early. Progress feels invisible at first. It's gonna feel like nothing is changing, it's gonna feel like nothing is working. When you build in that business and people don't see you, man, it hurts because you're like, what am I doing this for? And I remember creating YouTube, and I've been on YouTube for many years. I'm still not at 100,000, but guess what? People are starting to now show up. People are starting to see, people are starting to take notice. People are downloading this podcast. Thank you. They're here and they will show up. There's a movie that was created a long time ago. I think it's called Angels in the Outfield. That's it. The guy in a movie was basically hearing voices saying, if you build it, they will come in the middle of nowhere. I think it was like Nebraska. If you build it, they will come. And he like, what the hell is going on? The message was telling him to build a baseball field in the middle of nowhere, a cornfield. He ended up starting building this actual field, and people started coming around from all across the United States, maybe all across the world. What is telling you? Is there a voice in you that is telling you to build, but yet you regret the build because you just think that nobody's gonna show up? I've had a voice in my head that tells me and told me for years to do this. I started, stop, start, and stop. I'm just now being fully committed and fully present on the goals and the voice that is telling me to do this. And I'm staying focused. But look, progress is gonna feel invisible. Growth happens internally before externally. Allow yourself to grow inwardly then outwardly. Okay, the emotional push is there. Just imagine quitting before your breakthrough. What would that feel like? What would that do to you? What would you become if you just stuck in there? Imagine never meeting your strongest self. Imagine never going through those failures and those heartbreaks and those hard times. Who would you be? Who would you be? How would you feel? Imagine it. You have to meet your strongest self. The saddest thing in life is unrealized potential. It really is. All those things you could have been. You get to the pearly gates, and Jesus tells you, hey man, you know, you could have done this. You could have been a millionaire, but you gave up. You were six feet from gold. You gave up, dog. You're capable of more than your current reality. You just have to believe and get ready to meet that final form. Now, the version of you today is temporary. You are still becoming. Allow yourself to become. Allow yourself to evolve. And one day you're gonna look back and you're gonna realize damn, the struggle is shaping me. Damn, the struggle is shaping you. The failure you were training for. The discomfort was transforming you. You haven't met your final form yet. But the person that you are becoming will thank you for not quitting. So if you're serious about becoming your best version, this is the channel for you. And I want you to make sure that you subscribe, send this to someone else who needs to hear this. And I'll see y'all in the next episode.
