Episode 3: Supporting displaced people
How is your care organisation supporting displaced people?
In this month’s episode, we delve into the topic of supporting displaced people who have arrived in the UK. How can care providers help people to settle in the UK and help them to find housing and employment opportunities? Professor Vic Rayner OBE, Chief Executive of The National Care Forum (NCF), updates on how the NCF has been proactive in its approach to support Ukrainian refugees and shares useful resources and information for providers. Oona Goldsworthy, Chief Executive of Brunelcare, explains how the Bristol-based charity takes a person-centered approach in supporting displaced people and Tariq Raja, Foundation Manager at The CareTech Foundation, tells us more about the partnership with Breaking Barriers – a specialist charity that supports refugees into meaningful employment with advice, experience and education.

Professor Vic Rayner OBE is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Care Forum, joining the organisation in 2016.
As CEO she is the chair of the government Strategic Advisory Forum on the social care workforce, co-chair of the National Social Care Advisory Group on social care and technology and sits on a range of government and national specialist groups with a focus on the social care workforce, digital transformation, new models of care and regulation.
Vic is a regular national and international speaker and has extensive knowledge and expertise across a wide range of care, support, housing and social policy agendas. Prior to joining the NCF, she was the CEO of Sitra, a leading national membership body championing excellence in housing, health, care and support.
Vic is a trustee of Hestia, a leading London charity providing care and support as well as The Care Workers Charity. Vic was previously the independent Chair of the Brighton and Hove Fairness Commission, tackling inequalities and promoting social justice within the locality.
Vic has an MBA (Distinction), MA and BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021.
Oona became Chief Executive of Brunelcare, a Bristol based housing association providing homes and care, in late 2109. She was previously the CEO of United Communities housing association where she remained at the helm for 16 years, growing the organisation from its inception to become one of the leading providers of affordable homes in the City.
Oona is a Board member of the National Care Forum, Care and Support West and Trustee of Second Step housing association. She is also Co-Chair of the Bristol Homes and Communities Board.
Tariq joined the Foundation after studying Law and working in the Charity Sectors in Pakistan and England since 2008. He has supported health, disaster relief and technology-based projects and been part of several pioneering programmes focusing on Community outreach.
Building a base of community-focused events in Milton Keynes, he has been a part of Art in the Park, African Diaspora Day and Great Get-Together Iftar. He is a strong believer in celebrating unity and diversity through joint activity.
He has worked with a range of Ethnic Minority groups, supporting their individual and joint goals, building lasting partnerships and hopes to bring the same positivity to the Foundation. Tariq is a trustee at Citizens Advice Milton Key
