Speaker 3

It's what up bro. It's what up bro. Okay, okay, okay, let's start our conversation, baby, yeah, so please, let's just give A little introduction On who is Ruby. Okay, give us In your own words Like who do you feel represent? So please go crazy. Who?

Speaker 1

is ruby. Um, well, I'm, my name is ruby I think we clarified I'm 29 years old, born in bonaire. Uh, bona riana hey yeah, um, I'm really proud to be an island girl because I think I represent all things island girl. I love being at the beach the nature, the tranquility, what's up. Life is a hobby 100%.

Speaker 1

So, yeah, I live in the city all the time, so I want to walk and I want to appreciate life here. So yeah, that's a little bit about me. I love my family. I love being with them. I have two dogs. Dog mom, let's go well, it might be three dogs oh my boyfriend secretly is getting pushing a third one on us.

Speaker 2

You usually think it's the girl pushing the more dogs into the family.

Speaker 1

He's like no, we're taking care of him, but it's a monster by kunuku, by you that I'm from india and, yeah him, I'm fine. I love puppies, puppies are like everything right. They're so cute so I'm like taking care of this puppy and all of a sudden he's like I'm getting attached.

Speaker 2

I think that was explained from the beginning. It's like what type of dogs do you got like?

Speaker 1

so the first one, my baby, is tody. He's a shih tzu maltese.

Speaker 3

Okay, um, he's like fluffy I can totally see that for you and we have canela. She's a pit bull mix shout out to the pit community and the third one.

Speaker 1

I don't know what he is street dog but, he's super cute.

Speaker 2

His name is tornado because he's grey he's what grey, I thought, because he makes a fucking mess everywhere he goes also the way she said it, with the same face. That's why I'm like having nicks.

Speaker 3

Go visit him you find a nice house for him, find a nice home, maybe like a let's get it, let's get it, let's get it, okay. So I want us to take it back to, let's say, seven year old Ruby.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 3

What was your life like growing up?

Speaker 1

I feel like I'm in therapy.

Speaker 3

I mean, this is therapeutic, so let's get it. Hey, no, you good, I know I bought it. Oh, let's get it. No, you're good, I know.

Speaker 1

Oh, the back side also.

Speaker 3

Oh there, oh, I didn't even see that.

Speaker 1

Oh, now it's on your side. Hey Cut, there we go.

Speaker 2

There's no cutting.

Speaker 1

Can they still hear me?

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Seven years old. One second.

Speaker 3

Hold up, get it in, okay. Okay, now we can cheat, let's go.

Speaker 1

Okay, so let's see, I was born in Bonaire. By the way, we're doing it in English.

Speaker 3

English for me is Mexican, it's Mexican.

Speaker 1

Okay, hello.

Speaker 3

We are island people. We, no, no, it doesn't matter, we're from the island, we're from the island, we're from the island. We're island people, we do all our languages, okay, okay.

Speaker 1

So, yeah, I was born in Bonaire, but I left when I was around 2, 3. My parents got divorced when I was pretty young. Thank you, I was pretty young, thank you, I was pretty young. And yeah, so I would say I grew up on a very loving home, but broken at the same time. So loving like on both sides, but then boom, boom ping pong, ping pong. So from a very young age, like I moved very often, double the presents right.

Speaker 2

Sorry, double the presents Double the presents, double the presence right, sorry, double the presence double the presence.

Speaker 1

Yeah, um, we moved to the states when I was pretty young and then but they were both living separately. So miami, fort lauderdale and, um, yeah, my mom was working like multiple jobs so it wasn't going well it was going. She wasn't really seeing us that often. Yeah, um, you know how it is everything in the states closed like at one in the morning, yeah, um, so she decided to move.

Speaker 1

So we moved to curacao. Um, because her siblings lived there. So my uncles and all of my cousins, and once we got there, so much fun, every day we went to the pool, we went out, we went to the bathroom and we went to the toilet. We went to the toilet, the creases the creases, the big bottles of water on the table when you come in.

Speaker 3

That's how you know you did a childhood rise so how old were you when you moved to Corazon?

Speaker 1

around 7, 7, 8, 9, I don't know. So how?

Speaker 2

old were you when you?

Speaker 1

moved to Corazon Around seven, seven, eight, nine, I don't know.

Speaker 3

I need to cut the timeline because it was back and forth. It's all good.

Speaker 1

Then we, yeah, so I can say that my childhood was very fun and that's where I really mi amor pa mi familia. Well, it was always there. Pero pues, está con mi primo, está con mi hermana, el de más grande Sí familia. Well, it was always there, Pero pues está con mi primo y con mi hermana. Sí, entonces mi papá? Yeah, I would say like a bit of a tomboy too, because most of my cousins most of my cousins were boys.

Speaker 2

My first thought was Kiana. Really, kiana was almost like I was a tomboy growing up, yeah full tomboy, full tomboy.

Childhood Between Islands

Speaker 1

I have two big brothers, so I was always wanting to be like them, like Ruby. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So very much so. And then we moved to Bonaire. We moved to Bonaire and from the moment we landed, I was like I'm home. There was just something about it that I'm like okay, I'm back home.

Speaker 2

You too. We've been talking about this since we got here. The tranquility here is because we've been to, obviously, the Corsair and the Aruba, yeah, but the vibe, you can't put a word.

Speaker 1

You can say that vibe, that's it, that's the vibe.

Speaker 2

But there's something else you can't put a word, you can't force yourself to be calm because, have a drink. That's it.

Speaker 1

Sunset, it's different, it's about the little things it's about enjoying the moments it's about being present, and to me, the sinti manesita algo cojente to chase their whole life, yep, and you kind of just have it here this. Um, yeah, we lived here and oh, I forgot to say something also at it, it baby. When, through all that moving, moving, moving, I became a very closed person.

Speaker 2

Really why?

Speaker 1

Because it was always like a new school.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

In the middle of the school year also. Again a new school year, again a new class, again new kids. So there comes a point that you kind of like you know your subconscious mind's, like there comes a point that you kind of like you know, you know your subconscious mind's.

Speaker 2

like I know I'm going to move on your own, so why invest so much time in friendships?

Speaker 1

So I started becoming very shy and closed off and it was like that in Curacao. I remember like my first days in Curacao, I would walk like oh damn so you were like traumatized a little bit, yeah, I guess so.

Speaker 1

And then Everybody was so nice, my friends, that I have now that for the. From then like the from second grade, third grade, elementary school. Yeah, oh, this is like before we left like oh, wow. So yeah, we really clicked. They lived on my same street, so it was the same vibe again after school, we would play every day baila man 30 ten hotel nang skondi same street. So it was the same vibe again after school, we would play every day. I mean, why not?

Speaker 3

I mean, why are we not allowed?

Speaker 1

yeah, so, um, that was a little bit of that. And then my dad wanted to live with me again and actually I wanted I was mixed because I was fighting a lot with my mom at the time Like my teenage years Rebelde.

Speaker 3

Sounds regular for teenage girls yeah.

Speaker 1

And me and my mom are like this. Now Okay.

Speaker 3

Best friends. Teenage girls Understandable.

Speaker 1

But at the time, you know, I wanted to go out and party you think you know better. And my mom's, like you have to be back at 12. I'm like 12?

Speaker 2

That's where we start. I'm a grown woman.

Speaker 1

Okay, at 15? I'm a grown woman. Why can't I come at 3? That's 12. You're my friend, I love you. I love you. You are not your friends. Amen. My mom's Venezuelan, my family's Venezuelan.

Speaker 2

I was about to say, because that's Spanish, and I'm really Spanish.

Speaker 3

Yeah, yeah, maracucha, maracucha, maracaibo.

Speaker 1

So my whole family's Venezuelan. Okay, yeah, you're Datu. Yeah, so you grew up in the Hispanico, I grew up in Venezuela. Stay good, then. Sí, sí Valencia, they had you moving?

Speaker 3

What type of work were they doing? I don't know God damn parents.

Speaker 2

I just had to pack my shit and go. Are we gone again.

Speaker 1

I remember when my mom told us that we were moving to Curacao, she actually painted this paradise looking place, a beach palm trees. She's like would you quisiera vivir ahí?

Speaker 3

And I'm like see, she's smart, she was like I know she she's tired, but if I take her to, paradise, she'll be good and it worked it worked. It definitely worked, yeah, so so.

Speaker 1

So then I moved back to the states um with my dad and, yeah, I went. We were living in fort lauderdale at the time and then he got a job in texas, so we moved to houston, texas that's where you went to the university and that's where I graduated, yeah you were around 19 around this time university of houston um, yeah, around 19. Yeah, I graduated when I was 23.

Speaker 2

Oh, no, that's a big chunk of your, like teenage life in the states, then most.

Speaker 3

Yeah, okay, yeah, the older, yeah, like the 16, 17 18, 7, yeah, around 17, and what was that life like for you?

Speaker 1

um, I, I really liked it. I think it, yeah, living somewhere different. I I wasn't so happy about moving to houston at first really I'll say that yeah, because, yeah, I was so used to for lauderdale, we would go to miami all the time I played beach tennis, you know, I was finally like getting the group you're getting into it. Okay, we staying here, for sure now and yeah, I just had this idea of texas being very cowboy.

Speaker 2

Yeah, um no beach for miles and miles yeah, no beach, that was my thing that was the most part.

Speaker 1

But yeah, of course there are cowboys. I remember at school kids would go with like cowboy boots.

Speaker 3

It's serious yeah.

Speaker 1

Depending which city too.

Speaker 3

Yeah, of course.

Speaker 1

But I ended up really liking it and I yeah being with my family, my stepmom, my little sister I have two little sisters also, I said two big brothers, but two. They both got pregnant at the same time, my mom and my stepmom. Oh no way, yeah, it's okay.

Speaker 2

They're stepmom. Oh, no way, yeah, yeah, it's okay they're all friends now.

Speaker 1

Oh shit, yeah, oh gosh okay, you're doing that.

Speaker 2

Okay, I'm gonna do it. Okay, come here.

Speaker 3

Sure you got her pregnant no, watch this abracadabra, I'm also pregnant why are we like this? We're so stupid. Um okay, so talk to me about what you studied and like. What did you graduate with?

Speaker 1

So communications was my major, with an emphasis in marketing, advertising, and my minor psychology.

Speaker 3

So I can read your mind.

Speaker 1

Hey read away.

Speaker 3

Read away. It was only a minor. It was a minor, just a little bit.

Speaker 1

But yeah, I remember I was um done with school. Oh, I lived my whole college years with my parents because I didn't want to live in a dorm, okay, no I mean all that moving, no no, it's like a college experience you're. You know what? Probably if I went back I would um, I would, but I was not comfortable at home.

Speaker 2

It's actually cheaper to live at home instead of a campus, because you have extra tuition to pay and the college itself is already super expensive in America but I was staying at home. I was staying at home my parents are like super spoilers they cook for you every day, why do I have to cook by myself? I was staying at home.

Speaker 1

My mom was cooking are like super spoilers. They cook for you every day. Why do I gotta cook by myself? No, just by the house. You go home, mom and kids go to the kitchen.

Speaker 2

Like who's complaining? How long do you have to wait for the school to open?

Speaker 1

It's only one hour 45 minutes.

Speaker 2

It's not that long. It's an island.

Speaker 1

It's long, it's a commute, it's long. And then I wanted the last two years. I didn't want to put more traffic. I didn't want to put more traffic.

Speaker 2

It was too much actually I was back to back bumper to bumper, bumper to bumper.

Speaker 1

I didn't graduate. I'm out of here leaving to go, and that's what I did and that's what you did that's what I did. I didn't want to have work, nothing planned, and then I got a response email. I'm like, oh, I got an interview and yeah, I got the job.

Finding Home in Bonaire

Speaker 3

That's it, that was it. That was it Okay. My boy, boneiro, and yeah, I got the job. That's it, that was it. That was it okay so I want to hear a little bit about, of course, this miss universe journey okay, so you were miss bonier in 2022, yes, and then came back again around for 2024. You were crowned Miss Bonner and then you had the honors to bring Bonner back in the running after 25 years. Oh whoa.

Speaker 1

Yes, 25 years. God damn, that's crazy. What was that?

Speaker 2

Wait, my first question, before we get into that, is why has it been 25 years since they sent someone from Bonner?

Speaker 1

I would say multiple reasons, but one of them being that they didn't, so the Ms Bonair organization didn't have the franchise for, like it kept changing. Okay, and then also to do all of the paperwork again. They said that bonair was part of the netherlands. Oh so netherland, miss netherlands yeah and their argument was like not really, you know, we have completely different culture, completely different um, everything, really exactly, and we are a part of the netherlands, but we don't really feel like that the cultures are the same.

Speaker 3

No, it's not that.

Speaker 1

Yeah, she doesn't speak, papiamento. Maybe she never even came to Buenos. Aires Get out of here.

Speaker 3

No disrespect to Holland. No, no, no, no.

Speaker 1

And no disrespect to any Miss Netherlands. Yeah, of course, but you know, my name is a representative, so it's not really a test. So, yeah, if you want, if you want to help, I hope you can. So yeah, if you want to help us, if you have a case, we are TCB. Thank you, miles, for being here.

Speaker 2

Hey, shout out to Miles, shout out to Miles.

Speaker 1

Give it a happen. And Miss Bonet Organization too. I'm back, you can say anything, angelo, thank you. And then I got a call. I was three months old when I got a call. I had three months of promise with them, but I was given corona. So the next month Ms. Boneiro, yada yada gave my farewell speech. It was an honor.

Speaker 3

Thank you for it all here you go, there's the wave.

Speaker 1

You know why it's like this?

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 1

So that this doesn't move.

Speaker 3

Wait, that's really a thing.

Speaker 1

That's one of the reasons, because if you're like, look at that.

Speaker 2

Start working those triceps. You know, oh, we're going to get into some tips and tricks. We're going to get into some missed tips. Yeah, yeah, yeah For the next person.

Speaker 1

Okay let's finish this first. So then, yeah, I got a call. I was super, I was shocked because I know that they had been working on it but it hadn't happened. And even when I applied to participate for Miss Bonair, that's what they said that the winner would go to Miss Universe, and that ended up not happening. I ended up going to Miss Grand International, which was so winner would go to miss universe, and that ended up not happening. Um, I ended up going to miss grand international, which was so fun. Um, I'm really happy I did that one.

Speaker 3

But what about it?

Speaker 1

yeah, it's just so crazy. And it was in vietnam and um vietnam. Fans are not the other level they live for that they live for that. They live for that. They live for that. They live for that.

Speaker 3

They live for that they live for that, they live for that. They live for that, they live for that.

Speaker 1

They live for that. They live for that. They live for that. They live for that. They live for that. They live for that. They live for that, they live for that, they live for that. They and I want to have the full experience of how a restaurant is treated, a hotel, an event Nice.

Speaker 2

Like a king or a queen.

Speaker 1

A king, yeah, so they do their utmost performances, but I want to have a super beautiful experience. I want to be friends with them. I want to be friends with Miss Grand.

Speaker 3

So for Miss Grand, who were your top three girls, Of Kubo. Kubo and friends. Like you build a relationship, people, gangs, yeah.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I have friends, but Bolivia, ecuador, dominican Republic, scarcia, you also have a show, miss Universe Latina, or something.

Speaker 3

So the one who wins there goes to.

Speaker 1

Miss Universe Latina. Oh shit, as a representative? No way. Wait, is it a reality TVina or something? So the one who wins there goes to miss universe latina oh shit as a representative no way wait.

Speaker 2

Is it a reality tv show or something?

Speaker 1

yeah, yeah, it's a reality tv. Okay, oh shit, I didn't even know they made uh reality tv shows we were today years old. Yeah I did not know that it just started this year. Okay, the first year they do.

Speaker 3

That makes sense okay, so okay, back to you. Gave in the crown okay, so.

Speaker 1

So I gave the crown and then, um, I get a call. I was like I can't believe it because, yeah, this is what I had been working for. And, um, yeah, cry, blah, blah, scream. Ah, I can't believe it. And I was like, yeah, I'll do it. Um, and immediately started the preparations, everything. Where was I?

Speaker 3

Wait. So you started the preparations, so you had to go to Venezuela for this yes, I went to Venezuela.

Speaker 2

What did you do?

Speaker 1

We found a team there.

Speaker 2

Okay, that they do.

Speaker 1

It's like a school of Miss, so they do everything catwalk, public speaking, speaking wardrobe, acting classes.

Speaker 2

Venezuela is like the everything.

Speaker 1

They're one of the tops, for sure. They're one of the powerhouses, for sure.

Speaker 2

Do a lot of people go to Venezuela and find a team to train like a camp yeah, yeah, yeah, they do that.

Speaker 1

It's a business, but do you go by?

Speaker 2

yourself, like everybody has their own camping team, or do you go with, like you and three other countries go with one team?

Speaker 1

I'm sure they do that, but it wasn't my experience. I'm actually a girl.

Speaker 2

I'm a girl and a man. Yeah, so we're not going to go to WAC but we're planning to, but we're just bumping into each other like random.

Speaker 1

We bumped into each other hey what's up super fun, and that day was a little later because we were doing this together. So the last night we weren't together but before we were on the runway and we were acting. So that was fun and it was very exhausting because it was the whole day we were walking. We were walking. The gym was like 3 hours long. It's crazy, the diet whole day. I can imagine it's crazy, the diet.

Speaker 3

I was about to ask what was the diet like?

Speaker 1

Crazy, crazy. What could you eat?

Speaker 2

Like 1,500 calories only every day.

Speaker 3

Yeah like very small portions.

Speaker 1

I was going to ask if you're a foodie. I'm a foodie. Sound like a crackhead? She's a food crackhead. You know the Ratatouille movie.

Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1

Where he puts the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the, the anything we get it, we believe you there's nothing I don't eat give me a big ass burger full of fat and yeah, where was I?

Speaker 1

okay, so um training in Venezuela diet diet small portions very small portions, very small portions. So obviously no juice, no processed fast foods, but yeah, vegetables, protein, then carbs, rice pasta, but no so, yeah, you take the excess with food. With a little food you're full. Some strength. Green apple that's nothing, I was dying but what?

Speaker 3

what's the point? I mean, maybe it's for like glowy skin and all this good stuff and like you gotta you lose a lot of weight.

Speaker 1

Oh shit, I'm changing my diet the moment I get back to a room.

Speaker 2

You do you do that 100%?

Speaker 3

I'm probably not gonna do it all the way through, I'll do it like half a day.

Speaker 2

I'll try.

Speaker 1

But like fruits only Ain't nobody got time for that.

Speaker 2

Like grapes.

Speaker 1

No, fuck, no grapes. I love grapes too.

Speaker 3

Grapes are too sweet.

Speaker 2

A lot of sugar I know, but it's like my little. I don't know how my family is from Venezuela.

Education and Career Path

Speaker 1

And so, but maybe I'm going to go to a big one, I don't know. The team was really good, so I don't know. We did things together afterwards and so, yeah, I got to know Venezuela in another way, a whole different way.

Speaker 1

Okay, so now Take us to the competition and then, okay, then I came back. I came back to Bonaire, grabbed my things no, but I'm going to New York. Oh, yes, fashion week. Yes, that was crazy With Sherry Hill. What the fuck was this? That was Like, that was crazy. Vogue and all this Like did.

Speaker 2

How did he even contact you for this? Like, how did you get in contact with this opportunity?

Speaker 1

okay, I was working with yeah yeah, and they um yeah, they wanted me on the show, so they give you everything it it's.

Speaker 2

It's an amazing experience was it your first experience you know I'm so bad.

Speaker 1

I've had people make logos and everything on Fiverr, so it's super. It's super cheap. It's the best $10 for you is okay, but $10.

Speaker 1

In.

Speaker 3

Bangladesh is like I just made half my salary.

Speaker 2

Money to visa. It's all good.

Speaker 3

Don't drop it. Get your water intake, okay. So while you get in the inn, so you're in New York doing Fashion Week, you're with these huge mega brands. Where are you as a little island girl mentally? Where are you?

Speaker 1

I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe that I was there. I remember I would wake up and I would think I can't believe this is my life right now. I didn't stay long, it was only a couple of days.

Speaker 2

That's more than an hour.

Speaker 1

No, but I feel like the longer you are there, the more opportunities there are For sure.

Speaker 2

Would, you like to join?

Speaker 1

I'm like oh, I can't, I'm leaving, I'm leaving um I'm leaving, but you can't extend it or something. I'm going back to Miss Universe, yeah so I'm going back to Miss Universe, I'm going back to my wife and, um, um, yeah, I think so. Obviously it's a reason that you're not going to New York, because the opportunities yeah, the opportunities are endless, endless, but you're winning, but it's not. Opportunities are endless, endless, endless, but.

Speaker 3

I'm going to do casting for big brands. Okay, let me just test it out, see what's going on.

Speaker 1

So I went to the show, met really nice people and then the next day I had to leave. That was it. So I was kind of like, yeah, okay, so skip, I go to Miss, miss universe and yeah what is that experience like?

Speaker 3

because I feel like that is something again we grow up on. We watch it on tv like it's just this big grand thing I.

Speaker 1

to me it was just a huge honor, especially because it was 25 years since Bonaire participated, so I was like I don't know how to explain the amount of pride that I felt and happiness. So I was like I was happy. I was happy, I was proud and it's kind of like you're living in the moment of such a big achievement and it's kind of like you're living in the moment of such a big achievement.

Speaker 3

And it's bigger than you.

Speaker 1

It's bigger than you, because you're representing a whole country, you know, and in this case my island, bonaire, an island that I love so much. But if you were representing Miss Texas or Miss USA, you feel it, of course, because it's a big accomplishment.

Speaker 3

It's still the big thing, but it's not the same as yours.

Speaker 1

Your people back home like and that was, I think, one of the most beautiful things, seeing how proud my friends were, my family they have like a group chat with Every day.

Speaker 2

They would send things especially when you're living in a small community a small community, exactly. Nobody gets to break out like you did, you know yeah it's like okay, you can too.

Speaker 1

Now correct.

Speaker 2

Pave the way. That's the word I'm looking for.

Speaker 1

Yeah pave the way for the next person yeah, I don't know if it's real, but there's a world person you have to exactly as you should like you've.

Speaker 3

You've accomplished stuff, clearly, girl, yeah, yeah, so and so yeah, it was an experience.

Speaker 1

It was, of course, very beautiful, it was very intense.

Speaker 3

I was going to ask what was the hardest part of this experience, Because I don't think it's all glitz and glam.

Speaker 1

I want to say it's a little hour when I was sleeping so I was sleeping like two hours, three hours a day. So it's a lot longer. Yeah, it took like five hours, two, three hours, but me for my makeup hair, my face was full glam hair extensions. So it's a process. For example, if you see Sally at 8 o'clock you have to be ready by that time.

Speaker 1

So you have to eat at 8 o'clock. You have to eat at breakfast at 8 o'clock, so you have to wait 3 hours for the 8 o'clock and then at 4 o'clock, and then you have to sleep 1 hour a day, and then you have to sleep 1 hour a day.

Speaker 2

And then you have to sleep. Small meals as well, and we'd just like small meals as well.

Speaker 1

Small meals.

Speaker 2

And that's already like energy consuming.

Speaker 1

That's already energy consuming. It's already like energy consuming. It's already like energy consuming. It's already like energy consuming, but at the people. Talking to people. It's cool, but at the end of the day you feel like I'm so tired.

Speaker 3

No, no, no, it's not me, it's you. I'm just telling you You're a good person. Yes, yes, Vietnam, go on the side of wine. Yes, give me two pizzas.

Speaker 1

We were going to get there. We were going to get 40, wherever we were super late and the hotel was full of people. We had to eat. Yeah, I don't know. It was like if I could drive six hours a day, it would have been perfect.

Speaker 2

What was the process like? When did this whole Miss Universe thing start and how long is this whole? Legit yeah, it's like a two-week thing, three-week thing, four-week thing start and like how long is this?

Speaker 1

whole Legit, yeah, like it's like a two week thing, three week thing, four week thing. In this case it was a three week thing.

Speaker 2

It was three weeks. So three weeks of lack of sleep, small meals, high heels.

Speaker 1

High heels, high energy, high energy, competing because you're competing, I would kill somebody.

Speaker 2

I would not last like, I wouldn't. I would kill, no, no, your hobby is to be bad your hobby is to be bad really.

Speaker 1

You have to go to the hospital, you have to have a hobby, a hobby is much more to be bad, I can imagine so, yeah, I imagined I was going to drink a lot of hair, so vitamin C magnesium to keep my energy up and then with my immune system. But after this retirement, two days later, knockout. I was so sick, super high fever, this is during the pageant.

Speaker 2

No, this is right after. Oh, the moment it was finished.

Speaker 1

Two days later, the pageant. It was my fault to resist.

Speaker 2

I had a moment after this what's the first thing you eat?

Speaker 1

The first thing, the first thing I're going to eat? I believe the first thing. Okay, the first thing I'm going to eat is no, it's a hotel, oh.

Speaker 3

I'm going to backstage.

Journey to Miss Universe

Speaker 1

No, it's a hotel. Yeah, oh, backstage, I don't remember actually. Yes, yes, right, I'm going to eat tacos at night. I'm going to eat tacos, but no, it's, I was in Mexico, yeah yeah yeah, but no the next day. I remember that I went to a buffet and every day I ate omelets, eggs fruit, just pure protein and fruits. Protein fruits, my hen, my dog, with all the pastries that I had on the table. You were like no, no, no, I suffered a little. It was so good.

Speaker 3

I can imagine girl.

Speaker 1

I can imagine everything tasted there has to be like a why I'm doing it. Go get that ham no. Makes sense, but yeah, okay, so wait, that was my first meal.

Speaker 3

I want me to have, like, some tips and tricks.

Speaker 1

Okay, tips and tricks.

Speaker 3

What is? Five things like a Miss universe needs to know or needs to have. Like what, like how, give me, give me five tips. Cuba, high in Venezuela um, okay, like I'm a walk, maybe giving out their tips, I don't know okay okay, um, like I'm a pin because this is one.

Speaker 1

I did not know this you didn't know this one, this one's just. You don't have to do it at the end, but if you're staying high.

Speaker 2

Try not to move this arm, try not to move this arm.

Speaker 1

Oh, talking about arms, when you're taking a picture, when someone is like this it looks a little Chubbier, but if you just separate it, it looks good in pictures.

Speaker 2

But they don't know that you're separating it. They don't know that you have to make sure the angle is good.

Speaker 1

You see the difference.

Speaker 2

I don't use this as a thumbnail right there.

Speaker 3

Oh shit, okay, yeah, so a little.

Speaker 1

So just stand out a little bit Chest up, I don't know I'm so stupid, so just stand out a little bit Chest up. Oh, that's beautiful.

Speaker 3

Oh no.

Speaker 1

Oh, no, now everywhere she takes pictures like this. I'm like that's not what I said.

Speaker 2

She's going to watch this. Huh, yeah, she's going to judge us real quick. Yeah, no, tía.

Speaker 3

Más adentro.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 3

Okay, so now we got the hand, we got this one.

Speaker 1

Yeah, for example, your purse is on your left side. You always put your purse on your left side. That's a thing, Because your right hand needs to be available to greet Okay.

Speaker 2

Little details.

Speaker 3

Okay, what about? Did it really put like Vaseline on your teeth, or that's like a?

Speaker 2

myth Wait what?

Speaker 3

Yeah, that's the thing To keep smiling.

Speaker 1

I didn't do that. But Talking about your teeth, I'm going to put lipstick, because it's going to look weird.

Speaker 3

Maybe you can do it.

Speaker 1

And then it doesn't stick to your teeth. I see women do this all the time.

Speaker 2

They do what.

Speaker 3

That's what that is, that's what that is.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

So you apply Do it again.

Speaker 1

That's how it is, see.

Speaker 2

Can you do this so the lipstick doesn't stick?

Speaker 1

to your teeth. Got it?

Speaker 2

Yeah, oh, wow got it yeah, oh wow I mean I probably will never use that tip, but okay, yeah um we got four you can use hairspray como face.

Speaker 1

I don't know if that's hygienic.

Speaker 3

Scratch that off y'all don't do that leave that, leave that one alone don't do that yeah how many did I give?

Speaker 1

you gave us some. You gave us some. You definitely gave us some.

Speaker 3

So let's talk Bunear a little bit. Yes, okay question.

Speaker 2

Oh sorry, are we gonna? Are we moving on from the Miss Universe part, because I have a question for that okay. No, go ahead so what was like a very low point for you during that time. That's what's like, because I'm pretty sure everybody sees the highs, the highs, the highs, but nobody really sees like or just the whole journey of it. Like, did you ever hear like a low point and ask yourself like why am I doing this? I should just go back to there like screw this.

Speaker 1

I wouldn't say while I was at Miss Universe, because there was, yeah, I knew not while I was at Miss Universe, but before, okay, you know, with all the trainings and you kind of start, well, I started feeling like I wasn't completely ready, but it was already time to go and it was just very frustrating. It was just like a very frustrating feeling of I'm going to fail type of feeling and I'm going to let everyone down. And so I think because, going back to that, I was a tomboy when I started Miss Bonaire, they asked me to participate, so the organization had, like, they recruited me, ok.

Speaker 1

So the organization had like they recruited me Okay.

Speaker 3

Not like you applied.

Speaker 1

No, I wanted to but I didn't apply. And because remember, shy hidden?

Speaker 3

The moving of that yeah.

Speaker 1

So I started, I learned how to walk in heels then. So it was like learning how to walk pasarela was not what I was doing first, it was just learning how to walk in heels then. So so it was like learning how to walk pasarela was not what I was doing first, it was just learning how to walk in heels period general because everywhere that I went to was flip-flops, sandalia bands yeah, like my posture maybe wasn't.

Speaker 1

I was like um, so it was like rewiring yeah to be, and it's in me now. I walk in heels every day at work and I don't feel it. My colleague doesn't think I'm tired.

Speaker 2

No, I'm used to it.

Speaker 3

They don't feel that way. They're good, they're dead.

Speaker 1

They've been through it, yes, since the beginning of the process of the practicing and doing everything, and I'm not ready and, yeah, I kind of felt very low, at a very low point, and though I felt very, very we're heading out to to mexico already in mexico, okay already in Mexico, already in Mexico.

Speaker 1

So I have a lot of feelings about being back. You know, we're too many girls. I don't think it's gonna happen and I think that's why, if we were to be completely clear for me, I would say by Miss Universe. I would say Ghana, miss Universe, I was to go to.

Speaker 2

Miss Universe.

Speaker 1

My goal wasn't to win Miss Universe. My goal wasn't to be in the top 5 Miss Universe.

Speaker 3

It was just the experience of going.

Speaker 1

It was to go, so I didn't know what my goal was if I was going to Miss Universe. When I went, NBA was like Throw a shot, I was there. So that's why they say like aim for the moon and you'll fall in the stars or whatever the saying is but my dad said my dad said you can't fall in the top.

Behind the Pageant Scenes

Speaker 1

So I really wanted to be in the top and I don't know. It was kind of like mixed feelings. I was feeling very low about that, but it wasn't a surprise. At the time when I didn't fall in the top, I was just like like they called the last person or or they had called somebody and then they were still like one of the big countries missing. So I'm like not happening.

Speaker 1

I'm not in it and immediately, like your whole body just feels kind of warm. You feel like you're hot, not only for you, but you know that there are so many people that you see in the water. There are family, friends. There are so many people that you're happy and it didn't happen. Your team didn't win, your team lost.

Speaker 2

You said it yourself the goal for you was to be there, represent the island that's already an accomplishment on its own so to anybody else. If you want to say whatever you want to say, you go, do it they're not mad for you, yeah 100% everybody should be ABC in general once it's one of our people they're represented.

Speaker 3

We don't care, we don't even have to know your name.

Speaker 2

It's just the fact that yo consult us in algo Yo boneiro.

Speaker 3

It's true, it's true, it's true, it's true, it's true, it's true, it's true, it's true, it's true, and we're proud of our tour and sharing it with everyone.

Speaker 1

Yeah, it's true, it's a beautiful scene in our community, in our island.

Speaker 2

I saw it in football, I saw it with my sister, I saw it here.

Speaker 3

I saw my sister watching the game.

Speaker 2

She was in it, carcel was doing really well in the World Qualifying. Cup so as the game reposts. It's fucking go.

Speaker 1

Yes, but before that, when I went backstage, I didn't get that many messages from people from Aruba, from Carso, from Bonaire, so I was like, no, you're going to be super proud, so people I didn't even know, were like no, so I was pretty, but it just took some time to.

Speaker 1

But working for something for that long, that's all that's on your mind, like when you're in practice. When you're in, you're eating in a certain way to get there and then the pageant happens and then you're like okay, what's up? It's kind of like a, a dip.

Speaker 2

You fall in a dip my decision is that Hopi sorry I didn't say it, but every other contestant You're on such a high and let's say you didn't win, you didn't make it to no top. But then what's your life after you?

Speaker 1

fall to the top, but you don't win either.

Speaker 2

But how do you beat it later If you get too absorbed into it and then you buy back to your reality? Yeah, you get too absorbed into it and then we'll buy it back to your reality. Yeah, like it's very um shit, it's difficult, it's difficult, it's difficult, it's difficult.

Speaker 1

That's a hard transition.

Speaker 2

That's what I'm looking for, like how do you accept it? Because, well, it's not easy to accept what happens, right?

Speaker 1

And all that that yo, it's gone. And especially for like, let's say, for instance, like you said in your case, like so imagine those girls, you don't? I wanted something and it didn't happen. But, mr Binkman, isa, special therapy.

Speaker 2

I believe so it should be in every contract. If you go to a pageant, if you are not in, if you're not number one, you're gonna get a therapist for the next 12 months.

Speaker 1

But he can't go back in society.

Speaker 3

But I'm not going to do it Because I'm going to do it 100%. But I'm not going to Speaking on like emotions and getting out of like dark spaces, because you know we can just take it back to your parents' divorce. How did that affect you as a young girl and how did it affect you?

Speaker 1

I was very young when she passed. For as long as I remember I was separated from the other, but I know I wasn't in the best place, I don't know. Remember me the g-score, the non-separate for the other. Pero yeah me suck when I know that in the best place does not know me. No, some escone or a tenant about a home to pass on and a scene a different, a pyramid me me, the car, the talk with a, with a defeat. See this I remember. You know, like my mom crying. I remember us fighting. You know I remember things like that vaguely of course um, curious, curious that I never liked it.

Speaker 1

I always thought I'll never have a 9 to 5. I don't like that mentality. I don't like how boring it is to go to work every day. I always thought that. But I want to have a divorce and to have a lot of uncertainties in my life. Growing up is something that I crave, it's something that I like and that's something that I have even though I work. I like to copy and I have a lot of corporate outfits.

Speaker 2

I have my own. That's it Like corporate body. You know, I have my colleagues corporate outfits.

Speaker 1

That's it Like corporate daddy you know, I have my colleagues, we do things, and so I don't know if it's part of the comfort too, with my dad, I crave that, and so I have my brother, I have my brother, and so we have like this really cute routine going, routine it sounds like you got structure from what you didn't have as a child that was no structure and I feel

Speaker 1

like now you have a level of peace in your life and it's like and, for example, during fashion week, I had a certain opportunity and it's difficult to just. For example, I had the opportunity to do a show for my wife in Bonaero, so I got the opportunity to be on a show in Canada To host this reality show, or something. But that was three to four months of like modeling gigs New York and it's. I mean I want to say I want to pursue a side A, I have a boyfriend.

Speaker 1

Yeah, but I'm kind of lost here Not lost, but figuring it out, and I think that after Miss Universe, there's a way to be fighting for something, working for something, working for something, but not so much as what you said while I figure it out what?

Speaker 3

do you think, as you should? You deserve that for yourself, yeah but it's hard it ain't supposed to be easy, because it's again. You're tapping into an unknown zone for yourself again, and this is not your parents telling you hey, we have to move this is now on you. You have to figure this out for yourself. So it's a beautiful transition that you're in yeah any tip I can give you.

Speaker 3

I would just probably tell you like take your time, go to the beach, like meditate that's what I've been doing for yourself write it down and just talk to god like ask, ask him for clarity, like where, where do you, where does he see your life going? And let that be it. You know, because you got places to go, you got things to do. And if your heart definitely tells you that you want to do it, then find a way. We live on island, girl. We can always be right back, y'all, that's very true.

Speaker 2

That's true. Figure out your world.

Speaker 3

Figure out everything.

Post-Competition Emotions

Speaker 1

Everything is possible yeah, but again like that feeling of uncertainty. It's scary like if you went like if you went to Canada, for example, like for example, for me to do that, I would have to quit my job. Yeah, for example. And do I want that? Like it's so secure? Now I have my steady income, I have my little corporate outfits back with the outfits but what is your?

Speaker 3

heart after.

Speaker 2

After work, me and my boyfriend will go to the beach um nice it just seems like it's a very nice routine you have yeah like you have. You have a really good structure going on.

Speaker 1

You wake up my family is so close by yeah um, I do.

Speaker 2

I do understand, like what you have right now is not very easily attainable, as in having the kind of routine together with your partner personal achievements yeah but which is not bad, which you should, and if you break away from that but pursue personal achievements which is not bad, which you should, but if you come back, you're like damn, I just messed it up and I think more of the overall everything that's happening.

Speaker 1

He's 100% supportive. He supported me but, um, like you say, like losing like an average day, yeah pero you.

Speaker 3

I feel like just talking to you right now and I'm listening to you. I feel like behind your mind and in your voice like cracking a little bit. I feel like there's also a sense of you don't want to live with that. What if that? What if? Because I feel like now you're in a comfort zone. This is comfort. That's what our islands do to us. It is home, and home is the place where you can just be 1000% your authentic self. But it's comfortable and you see it a lot of times, like with like foreigners. They come into our homes and they excel. And it's the same thing when our students go to like abroad, to Holland, to study. They excel because you're not in your comfort zone.

Speaker 2

You're in somebody else's zone, so now.

Speaker 3

I'm just hungry. I'm just here to do what I got to do, so I can bounce the fuck out. And I can go back to where I'm from and like, do my big one there. So, yeah, you got stuff to figure out for sure, for sure, and I'm excited to hear the end results. To be honest, okay, the next chapter. For sure, we're doing another one with you. We want updates. We definitely want updates.

Speaker 1

Nice.

Speaker 3

It's happening, we will.

Speaker 2

How was your work with the whole process of Miss Universe? How supportive, Like he was there.

Speaker 1

Oh yeah, he was there there well, from the beginning, from the moment that I was participating for miss bonair, he went to every show, every presentation. Um, even if I had to do like a public speaking class presentation, he was there. Um, he was there through it all. Really, I remember feeling so frustrated one time with a pasarela class because the girls I I was competing with I felt like their pasarela class, because the girls I was competing with I felt like their pasarelas were good, like they were either modeling before or something, and I just felt like, oh, I'm not there yet and I was so frustrated and I remember him like and then, he like went on his laptop and like searched like modeling videos, tutorials and stuff Tutorials and then he grabbed the laptop and he's like modeling videos Tutorials and stuff, tutorials, and then he grabbed the laptop and he's like bam, bam bam.

Speaker 1

And like he literally like was doing pasadena classes with me outside.

Speaker 2

He was walking his own, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1

No, no, no, Bam de nuevo. Yeah, he's the one, 100%.

Speaker 2

He's super. You're the one.

Speaker 3

You're the one baby, lock it down. Hey, keep the dog, just for that.

Speaker 1

He deserves his dog okay, Okay, Tornado's staying. He deserves Tornado. Tornado, you stay in, baby we got a house for you.

Speaker 3

You stay in Okay.

Speaker 2

You can't argue with him anymore Like hey, listen, I walk with you, pasarela.

Speaker 1

I'm keeping this damn dog. Yeah, he was like always there clapping Everybody's sitting. He's standing.

Speaker 2

That's great support, though, yeah you don't find that all the time. That's very difficult.

Speaker 1

A lot of the girls I was competing with. They had to break up with their boyfriends before the pageant. Yeah, because they did not allow it. They didn't like it.

Speaker 2

Wait, as in the pageant or the boyfriends.

Speaker 1

I don't want you to go.

Speaker 2

Well, those didn't like it wait, as in the pageant, or the boyfriends. They're like hey, I don't want you to go, yeah, yeah, so the boyfriends. Well, those girls are the right thing. Huh, 100 if he's acting that way, like that's already like toxic, because if it's my dream, why are you telling me exactly boy bye? Three weeks bye, exactly, exactly, yeah I mean, maybe they're just insecure and scared that someone else is gonna swing by at dinner Like swoop you.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that's what it is, I mean.

Speaker 2

I definitely believe that I'm sure it happens.

Speaker 3

Sorry, like those opportunities, it's a bunch of rich niggas. You think those girls are not going to be Networking like you want to take me out for dinner. I'm a girl.

Speaker 1

You want to take me on a yacht? Can I bring a friend? Friend, I didn't win, but I won your boyfriend comes bring my boyfriend in a wig, but I won. Okay, act a little gay.

Speaker 3

I wanna lie, that's my gay friend, don't worry about it. My gay best friend, you wanna go to the bathroom? I'll be right there.

Speaker 1

No, no, no, yeah and they know that that that world attracts that as well. Yeah. It's luxury Like at the fashion shows there was a bunch of.

Speaker 2

In New York.

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3

That's crazy, would you?

Speaker 2

ever do that again, like if opportunity arises to go like fashion weekend, we would think twice.

Speaker 1

Well, that's what we were saying. That's what we were talking about. No, I know.

Speaker 2

I know. But like, if it's fashion, it's a week Like, hey, I have an outfit. See, you're right, but before I go to work.

Speaker 1

I have nine days off. So, I have nine days off.

Speaker 2

Figure out who has an outfit. You have to have a remote. Yeah, they had asked me to go to Miami Swim Week.

Career Crossroads and Future Plans

Speaker 3

But, but I had that was a valid excuse. I had to go to my brother's wedding. Okay, yeah, that's for sure, that's for sure. Yeah, but maybe you can even try to see, like, what type of things you could probably bring here and I just need to sit with myself write it down fashion shows and um.

Speaker 1

I just have.

Speaker 3

There's only one life look, yeah, you know like maybe reach out to her. Hey Island sis.

Speaker 2

Actually yeah.

Speaker 3

What's up Like? How does this work? Give me like some ropes.

Speaker 1

I've thought about it as well.

Speaker 3

I've thought about it See what's going on in Bonea, because I mean you did a big thing, you brought Bonea back on the map. So like, like, why not start preparing the other girls? You have knowledge, you have the experiences, you have all these things.

Speaker 2

And you can always bring your boyfriend along for the pasarela. I would not.

Speaker 3

That's hilarious. We would love to see some videos. I'm not even going to lie to you.

Speaker 2

I was about to say the same thing.

Speaker 1

You need to look them up, you got to see the before, the before, that's what I want to see the before.

Speaker 2

That's what I want to see the unfiltered hey, like the pasarela yeah, yeah. I'm excited, so bad some browsing um anything else we have before we close off okay so this is our last question.

Speaker 3

For you, it's not even a question. Basically, it's a statement we want from you. Okay, but you look into this camera and I want you to talk to all of our people and I want you to tell them in your words what to you makes Bonair, bonair.

Speaker 1
