Carnival in Aruba can be pure joy and pure argument at the exact same time 🇦🇼🔥
In this episode of No Filter in Paradise, we break down the biggest conversations coming out of Aruba Carnival — from Juve to the Lightning Parade to the Soka “sympathy win” debate that has everyone choosing sides.
We start with Juve and why beginning and ending at Carnival Village actually makes sense. A tighter loop means safer momentum, stronger vendor support, real after-party energy, and yes… serious FOMO for the ones who stayed home. When the Village stays strong, the culture stays strong.
Then we get into the Lightning Parade controversy. Big energy on the road, even bigger noise online. Was there really a boycott? Why is booing a dangerous trend? And what do bands actually owe paying participants versus the sidewalk crowd? If you want your track to dominate the road, it has to be playable — not just popular.
We also unpack the Soka results and the “sympathy win” conversation. Did emotion influence the outcome? Maybe. But every competition balances composition, performance, resonance, and storytelling. The real solution is transparency: clear categories, public scoring criteria, and visible results. When rules are clear, artists can aim better — and fans can debate with facts instead of speculation.
And we zoom out to culture on a global stage, revisiting the Super Bowl halftime show and why Caribbean storytelling — from domino tables to sugarcane fields to island flags — hits deeper than critics admit. You don’t need to understand every lyric to feel pride.
If the road is our stage, authorship matters.
Support Carnival Village.
Support the vendors.
Publish the scoring.
Respect the bands.
Protect the culture.

Radio News And Warm-Up Banter
SPEAKER_03Listen, I know the episode is about to start, but I just gotta tell you this. We are now going to be on the radio. XFM 102.7 FM Babies, no filter is about to take over. So your Saturday mornings are about to be even better. Okay, enjoy the show now.
SPEAKER_01I'm here the unico handing with the pants. I'm in the gun called by de Pariba.
SPEAKER_03De Pariba. You also say we depaba bow. It's ridiculous, but I can't expect nothing much from Aruba. Lady Gaga was there. She sang an English song. True. So I got no comment for that. It's one person, one song.
SPEAKER_02Okay. You just said no songs at all. Okay. Not gonna give you a song that was Buddha Pro.
SPEAKER_03I was enjoying a local carnival that I can actually experience. Welcome to College. Welcome to the island. That's what I'm trying to say. Like, why are you trying to fight it? But don't make it sound like I'm a fucking idiot. I never said that. You're like, you don't really know much about anything. Rubens are again, say what you want. I don't give a fuck. They are not the most intelligent people.
SPEAKER_01I don't know what this whole donkey horse thing you posted on your story. I was like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03See, you're so uncultured. Like, I don't understand why people just don't want to agree that the man won off of sympathy. It is okay. It's no problem with it.
SPEAKER_01And of course, the Bad Bunny concert, everybody was like, yay, but some people were like, what the fuck is this?
SPEAKER_03Alright, hey yo, what's up? Ala chemistus.
SPEAKER_01No, it's your voice. We know what's a little bit carnival season. So you're looking, I mean, it's still better than last week.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Anyways, guys, welcome back to that. No filtering paradise, a show about anything and everything between two friends. One is straight and the other. Super duper black and gay babies. Also, ABC Allen Fair podcast. I forgot that part. Holland, we're getting there. Because there's a lot of other Holland in the Caribbean side, maybe.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I don't watch, I don't, I'm not a podcast watcher, so I'm sorry, y'all. Shout out to all the podcasters. I'm sorry, I don't. But even okay, because I know you've always told me about like Hef or this person that has a podcast. That thing.
SPEAKER_01Ah shit, that never mind. He's beating everybody.
SPEAKER_03You've told me about that a lot of times.
Setting The Agenda: Juve, Lightning, Bad Bunny
SPEAKER_01He's like he's he's big on the podcast. He's he's uh he's from Curaçao, but he's big in Holland in general. I think he even won the podcast of the year two years ago or some shit. So shout out to him. No, for sure. Shout out to him. We'll catch up. All right, so this episode is gonna be very simple. We're gonna talk about Juve. We're gonna talk about lightning. Let's get it, carnival, and of course, the Bad Bunny concert. Everybody was like, Yay! But some people were like, What the fuck is this? Let's get it. Alright, so where do we start? We're gonna start with Juve.
SPEAKER_03What was the first thing? I think Juve was first.
SPEAKER_01Juve was first Saturday morning.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn't go. Sorry, but you didn't. You suck. Like, you you really suck.
SPEAKER_01Like I cannot be okay, man. Comment in the comment section. Shampoo San. Just kidding. I'm your hand in cut a pensa. I'm in the guy quoted by te pariba. It's you also say, Oh, but we tape a bow. No, I don't say that. Yes, you fucking. I don't say that.
SPEAKER_03You don't say it on camera, but you say I come downtown every day. What do you mean tape a bow? I work in downtown. Like, but you understand. I don't. I really don't understand that.
SPEAKER_01Anyways, I don't want to go all the way to Pariba. Get stuck in traffic, going back down.
SPEAKER_03So I might as well just like stay home. You're right, because we don't need this sobby-ass energy in Juve, anyways. You could keep that shit downtown here. Stay in your house. You're right. Don't come to Juve if this is your energy. For real, for real. Stay home.
SPEAKER_01This is a one like a typical NoFilder episode where I just say something and he just like roasts me.
Juve Recap And Route Debate
SPEAKER_03I'm not roasting, I'm just saying the truth. You just said you don't want to come all the way to the day. Yeah, no, no, no. I don't want to deal with it. That's droopy. So stay. Yeah, you're right. Stay where you are.
SPEAKER_01So tell me your experience. I saw you fucking dancing. Fantastic. I don't know what this whole donkey horse thing you posted on your story. I was like, I don't know. Song. Oh. You see, you're so uncultured. How because I don't know about song?
SPEAKER_03Yes, it's it's like a new song for the year, the carnival season.
SPEAKER_01But we also know that I'm not the most carnival person.
SPEAKER_03Stop using that as an excuse now.
SPEAKER_01But it's true. I'm not the most carnival person. I like going to the Grand Parade. That's pretty much it. Last time I went to Juvia, that's the boy.
SPEAKER_03Crazy.
SPEAKER_01We have a guest over here. Yeah, just walked in.
SPEAKER_00Blackheart.
unknownWhat is Soka Sam?
SPEAKER_00We're talking about Soka Sam.
SPEAKER_03We talked about Soka Sam.
SPEAKER_00We actually talked about it off camera. We did. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But I don't even know how long Soka Sam can exist because he don't even go to Juve.
SPEAKER_00So like that name needs to get removed. Soka Sam. It's a one-day thing. Give him Roadmarks Sam.
SPEAKER_01It's a one-day thing where on the last parade, I just go and have fun and I get super drunk, and I just become super in love with Carnival for like six hours. That's crazy. And then we call it a day, and I'll see you next year.
unknownThat's crazy.
SPEAKER_01That's so good. So tell me about Juve. How did that go?
SPEAKER_03Juve was spectacular. It was it was the best. Um we had pre-Juve, which is at Carnival Village. So is that new or has it always been there? Um so first at Nicolas, we've always done it. There's always a pre-juve. It normally is in the main street. Um, but then within years they try to upgrade it a bit more. So they then they they had like at some point they had a split, then they did it end up doing it just in Carnival Village. So this is like the second year that DJ Bang Daddy has been taking that over. Bang Daddy. Bang Daddy, he's from Trinidad. Yeah, shout out to Bang Daddy. Oh, so he's not from here. No, he lives here. Oh he's from San Nicolas, but he's from Trinidad. Okay. Yeah, so shout out to DJ Bang Daddy. So um, yeah, so he they have been having like their event now in the Carnival Village. So last year it was right outside. This year was actually in it, and then that ends like two, three, I went to the street. Right before the actual Juve starts switching. And then Juve starts. So now because they flipped Juve this year again. So last year the way you said it was like, fuck, I threw over.
SPEAKER_01Like, is that a problem that they flip it?
SPEAKER_03Yes. I wanted it to stay how it was last year. Last year they switched it for the first time and they changed the ruta.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03So they did it the opposite way. Okay. So they started at Carnival Village and then they went all the way around to finish back at Carnival Village. That makes sense. It was fantastic.
SPEAKER_01This year they're the party. You just start right there, you come back. If you want to keep on, if there's ever like a pre-juvit, juvit, after Juve, it can be a little bit more. That's the point.
SPEAKER_03That's what they that's what they wanted to do. They wanted to start building the after Juve thing, but then Kapia's like, okay, let's try it one year, see how that works. If the fights and everything is very much more limited, then we'll try it every year more and more. But you know how Aruba is. They try everything for once and then they're done with it. So that's what it's been. And then after that, we went up going down. So this year started back at Jolavese. Uh-huh. And then comes around and then ends back at Jolavese. Um, so it was shorter, but it was still good. It was still the shit. Shout out to everybody. You were having a great time. I just saw this. I had a great time. I had like the best time ever. Juve was the shit.
SPEAKER_01I I saw something about with Pre-Juve, um Nero and Lord Lally. I saw like Falcilito Cash was promoting something like that. Uh okay, probably. I I didn't pay attention to it.
SPEAKER_03I did see, I did see though that there was a flyer going on with Nero and Lord Lally. Yeah. That they were gonna perform somewhere together. Yeah. Uh or yeah, they were the performers for the event. Yeah. I don't know what it was for. I guess it was for the pre-Ju event.
SPEAKER_01I don't even. But but all I know is that I saw that same flyer with somebody else, which I think was the Bang Daddy guy. So like I wonder if they made this flyer but didn't get the approval of Lord Lally, or this didn't work out. So they removed Lord Lally and put this other person in. I don't know. Maybe he was tired as well.
SPEAKER_03Cause like it's a lot. Yeah, but he's also an older gentleman, like they can't handle all, like and Alice, but it's a lot, you know? Even for us that participate, like Ju Vit's a lot to go Juvent, and then that same night is lightning parade.
SPEAKER_01By the way, guys, sorry, you didn't have a show on Saturday. Yeah, shout out, shout out to y'all.
SPEAKER_03Cause I, yeah, I was not, it was not happening.
SPEAKER_01Shark's like, there's no fucking way I'm gonna make it to that. Not happening.
SPEAKER_03This week as well.
SPEAKER_01Like it's not happening. No show this Saturday, yeah. Yeah, it's Grant, it's uh Happy Valentine's Day in advance, but so we'll be back on the 40th, like the 21st. Yeah, we'll be back. 21st of Saturday. We'll be back with a bang. 21st of February. We will be back on the radio. Okay, articulation. I gotta speak a little slowly. I'm not mad at you. You know, because I talked too fast. I'm not mad at that. Um I'm reading because we're talking about Lali. I'm reading some of the comments from last week's episode because a lot of people were talking about it. First of all, somebody did say, um Rosa Arcangel said, You guys missed envelope points. Indeed, Soka should have two crowns, one groove, one power power, 10 contest, 10 contestants each. I don't know about that. Just yeah, no, it doesn't matter, but Ro March Band Clash should have its own show, like St. Martin. So I guess she agrees with us. Somebody says Silur Lali no by final elugano layena. What do you think?
SPEAKER_03Maybe that's true. I don't know. I mean it's maybe it is really true. A lot of people that don't normally go went this year. So because of this guy, yeah, because of that. So by all means, I'll give them that.
Pre-Juve Guests, Flyers, And Logistics
SPEAKER_01Okay. There's some more comments here. Those that qualified was based on technicality, they complied and won points, born in Soka. It's a top song for years to come. Hands down, Lord Liley won the flower because of emotional connection. So basically, what he's saying is he didn't win because of the sympathy, is what we've been saying the longest while.
SPEAKER_03Like, I don't understand why people just don't want to agree that the man won off of sympathy. It is okay, it's no problem with it. 100%. It was sympathy.
SPEAKER_01That's why it's also it goes back to like what did we what we spoke about last week was what are you scoring based? So if you though that and people can say, like, hey, well, a guy can't say, but what's the score sheet? Like, just because you like the song doesn't mean yeah, he should win.
SPEAKER_03Listen, yeah, and it could go both ways. Everybody can feel how they want to feel for the uh the other side and for the other side. It is what it is. Yeah like point of it is it was sympathy points. You can't tell me you don't you don't look at this man and be like, uh versus looking at like the guy for 6'7 that the that sing the song 6'7, uh-huh, and they're clowning him. Like they they they've been attacking that kid, but because he's not an older guy going through, you know, all these things, he doesn't get that same sympathy.
SPEAKER_01So Can we leave somebody made a song about 6'7? Yeah, he was trying to get the young kids going. Who sang and he got qualified? Yeah, who's the kid who sang it? Fuck, I can't remember his name right now. The guy with like an orange jacket? Yes. That jumped up and with his knees.
SPEAKER_03Why did he do that? I mean, he's showing you how flexible he is. He could do that shit. He could do that shit.
SPEAKER_01So basically so basically it ties into like I think he didn't he come on a sh on a on the show with a wheelchair.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01To make people think like he fucked up his legs.
SPEAKER_03Because he did it again, he did the jump thing again on a radio when he was on his radio tour and a radio station, he did it again. So it's like, nigga, calm down. You know, and then he his show was part of like, oh, like I'm broken, and then yeah, and he just jumped out. Jump the fuck out of that shit, and he did his big one.
SPEAKER_01Oh well. Well, anyways, let's move on from the comments.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So Drew was great, had a good time. Fantastic.
SPEAKER_03This shit. Shout out to everybody.
SPEAKER_01And what you're saying is they should definitely keep it like start at Carnival Village, and that's in my opinion. I mean, listen, I didn't even go, but for me that makes the sense because the party already starts there, and it's kind of like a conga line. Just like we're in the party, we just take you kick you out on the streets, come back, put you back in the same spot, bancy. Like, or maybe when you make the when they're leaving, you make the party a little bit smaller, and only because not everybody's gonna keep on going to like 12 p.m., only the crazy ones.
SPEAKER_03But you never know until if you but it's also a time to sober up because there's vendors in the carnival village that's selling like food, johnny cakes, and all these type of things. So you have the option to like, okay, you know what? I'm too lit right now to drive. Let me just sit here, have a little Johnny cake or something, chill basila, listen to the music, then you know you're catching up yourself and then be on your way. I don't know. But it is what it is.
SPEAKER_01I only went one time, Chuvay, and that was like a long time ago, like five, six years ago.
SPEAKER_03That's right.
SPEAKER_01I had a really good time, not gonna lie.
SPEAKER_03So I don't know what the fuck is going on with you. I was gonna text you because I was like, are you okay? Because I did not see you at anything. I did not, I saw the whole gang. I was like, hey! I was like, Rista Milito. It was like he did not show up.
SPEAKER_01I was like, Oh, they think about lightning? Yes. I know. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lie. I this was Saturday night, right? Lightning? Yes. What the fuck did I do?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Like, what other what else do you do?
SPEAKER_01I'm not gonna lie, I saw pictures afterwards. I did a little bit of FOMO. Why did you go? I don't know. Maybe I wasn't in the mood, or maybe I forgot there was lightning because I was in my house the whole day, almost the whole day. And by the time I realized, like, oh fuck, what's this happening? Like, fuck it. I'm just gonna stay home. I just maybe it just wasn't in the mood. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Saba, so I know. I got nothing. I had a blast. I got nothing. Listen. Yeah, you have nothing.
SPEAKER_01I'm going this Sunday for sure. I got I got my tickets. I'm going to do it.
SPEAKER_03I don't think nobody cares at this point anymore. Like, if you come, if you show up, you show up, you don't, like, it's whatever. Like, we the party's not gonna not happen. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Like a little sad song for me. I know Tiny Violin. Cause I know. I I do feel like uh I I wasn't very active this year in almost anything. Well, this year just started, but uh this carnival year. Last year I did went to a few of them, but this year I just I just didn't feel it. I don't know. It's just I've also been busy with a lot of shit, and mentally I'm like, I'm like, I'm just locked into my own little bubble right now. Maybe I should have used that as an excuse to go.
Lightning Parade Highlights And FOMO
SPEAKER_03I mean, this is the escape for that. This is how you like yo mm. Let me go dance it off. Weren't you a part of popcorn? You you're a dancer, you know what I mean? You should be dancing. So yeah, no, but anyways, all in all, light and parade as well was the shit. Had a great time. Groove masters did their big one. We did hear Kakin, so there you go. Whoever wants to say about the boycott, y'all can suck our dicks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so that's stuck up. So we were talking about this a little bit off camera. So you so was this whole story about boycotting the guy's song only because of because he won.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so people already feel like, okay, um, he won and now they're they're probably thinking like bands are really trying to boycott this shit or something. For what reason? Because he won. Because allegedly, I guess the places where the radios are or like the outlets or media outlets are, uh, they are not hearing the songs in front of them. And I guess maybe they're claiming now that more people are now in the in the community are saying, hey, bands are passing in front of us, but they're not playing the song for Lord La Ali. So it seems like they're boycotting it. Boycotting because they're not happy with the results. So now Bintiquator or like posted a poll and there's like, okay, which song do you think should become RoJam? Which never really happens. And then they had like an article where they were saying that, hey, you know what? We think that in order for like this boycott to work, I mean, in order for like to like fuck up their boycott, that might not even be a thing, by the way. An option could be to boo the bands while they're in front of. This is like I could this is legit an article BTQAT Ora posted. Like, I kid you not.
SPEAKER_01But okay, so and this could even be that it's not even a real thing. It's their opinion of like, hey, they're but it is not a real thing.
SPEAKER_03I understand, but they're not making it into a fucking thing. No, they really are. They really are making this thing a whole thing that it's really not, because here. You can see that at that point.
SPEAKER_01Look what the arrow is. So gigo, so the whole parada boo.
SPEAKER_03You understand what I'm trying to say. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Anything else? Boo the whole time.
SPEAKER_03So then wait, so what are the people that are paying the money to be in the parades? What is our benefit? So if I'm paying for a specific band and I know that band has this sound, I can't expect them to just play the lizard kakin because the people on the side wanna enjoy. The people on the side should have paid. So you could be have all the requests that you want, but you didn't pay. So shut the fuck up. Shut all the way the fuck up. And what do you expect for the whole route? They just play one song the whole time and burn it out just so y'all can say you you got no.
SPEAKER_01I think the problem I wonder who wrote this article specifically. I don't know. Because they all they have different like copywriters. So like who specifically wrote this? I don't know, but I think who approved this shit? It's either it's ordered trying to like just start some ones drama that's to get clicks. That's fun 1000% what it is.
SPEAKER_03They like to create like polemica because that is what gets them their attention, ammo, you know. So they're going to say, hey, let's divide the people because this is something that is definitely gonna cause an uproar.
SPEAKER_01So fucking bullshit.
The Boycott Rumor And Booing Controversy
SPEAKER_03So they do what they have to do, and this is what do. I just think that especially specifically this booing part is extremely irresponsible because Arubens are again, say what you want, I don't give a fuck. They are not the most in intelligent people. So you telling, you instilling into them saying, hey, maybe you could boob them, they're not gonna leave it as just saying, okay, boo if a band pass. They're gonna want to be throwing shit and they're gonna want to be feeling type of ways and they're gonna want to be doing they want to feel proud, but for the wrong thing. I'm like, what? But then where is this uproar for cops killing kid people on the island and all these other things? Like oh, you took a dog turn, but I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01I'm just saying, but like we went from credible, like shoot a kid, and I'm like, yo, because I understand what you mean.
SPEAKER_03Again, huge argument over a fucking dog. Sorry, but I'm always bringing this up because I still can't believe we went crazy like this for a dog.
SPEAKER_01Because we we you also tied that to the the hit and run from this year. There was more drama and opera for a dog than a lady that got hit.
SPEAKER_03People, because it wasn't even a lady, it was people, yeah. Two, yeah, and y'all just okay with this, and now you want to make a whole shit about a fucking lizard song that the man already won. He won! Like, what else do you want? You want to force everybody to like the song if originally we we did not like it?
SPEAKER_01Like, why are you ruining why you're ruining carnival for the rest of us? Like, hey what if you make with our ayahuasca, do your thing, but in the meantime, let's all enjoy this carnival. It is what it is, suck it up. If people want to hear what they're gonna do, even if it's a planned from maybe another band was like eight and we can write up and those boo was that like maybe it's another person who's pet? We don't know. But do you understand? It's still irresponsible. I get it. I get it.
SPEAKER_03I think it's dumb and childish, and it's and it shouldn't be happening at all. It's ridiculous, but um, I can't expect nothing much from Aruba, yeah, respectfully.
SPEAKER_01Very dumb of them for to write an article like that. Like, you what do you gain from it? Nothing. You just try to ruin Carnival for the rest of us. I'm only going to one, so don't ruin it for me.
SPEAKER_03Like, come on! I don't give a fuck. Anybody booze me, that's your ass. Like, I really don't give a fuck. Like, if my band is playing my music, yeah, baby, you can stay right there and put it.
SPEAKER_01What's your favorite carnival song this year that's really got you going?
SPEAKER_03Oof. You know what? My my my legs can't handle it, but it is definitely Ride It Up by Tiptoe. That is one of my favorites. I really, really love this song by um Saucy. He has a song called Bass Um Uh Let the Bass Man Cook. Yeah, he's from Infusion. Oh. No, not Saucy Santa. It's a saucy. No, he's uh uh Nigel Hook, I think is his name. Oh, um The Chubby guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Infusion. Yes, yeah. He plays piano, I think. He produces a producer. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, he has good songs, he'd be having a good song. Um yeah, of course. So just don't ask me because I don't know. No, I was not gonna ask you. I was not about to waste my time. Um, yeah, though, those are my personals. Nice. Pero yeah, te eightambe. Alright.
SPEAKER_01Let us know what you guys thought about your carnival experience. What are your top three songs? Yeah, like I thought in the comments. I was totally out of it. Um, let's talk about probably our only last topic for today is the Bad Bunny show. Let's get into it. So last night was a Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_03Then watch the sh the show itself. Now I was enjoying uh local carnival that I can actually experience. Really? Yes, last night was a children's parade, and then we had the burning of Momomito. Oh, yeah. Welcome to culture, welcome to the islands. Yeah, I really am uncultured. You are as you guys already know. I am I'm kidding. Married to an American. We know, we know. So tell us about. Last night. Well, first of all. As American culture was disrespected.
SPEAKER_01Talk to us. Apparently, for some people. Talk to us.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so like, not some people. Your favorite. Your favorite president. He hated the shit out of that person.
SPEAKER_01No, he didn't. He didn't show up.
SPEAKER_03Did you see what he tweeted? No. What did he tweet? He hates it. He hates it. He was a it was disrespectful. Nobody understood shit. It was provocative. It was a disgrace to America. That's what he said. What you know, Mr. J. Trump. Bro, I don't know. Stop.
SPEAKER_01You glorified him like no, I do not. I do like some of the stuff he does. Majority of the people.
SPEAKER_03You love everything about this man. Stop faking this.
SPEAKER_01Can somebody find it for me? I'm looking.
SPEAKER_03It's everywhere. Like, what? The man hates it. He does not like it. He can't stand it.
SPEAKER_01I can't find it. I'm trying to look it on Twitter. Oh, true social? Hold up, guys. I'm looking for it. No, this is ridiculous. No, I wouldn't. I watch Bad Bunny, bro. Kid Rock is a right. But uh Wait, hold up. Hold up, guys. Hey, I hope you're enjoying the episode so far. But before we continue, we just want to let you guys know that every single Monday and every single Friday, Shark and I drop a food review video on our food review channel called No Filter Eats. The link is in the description. So click it, go follow it, and let us know where should we go eat. If it's Aruba Bonero Curaçao or Holland, doesn't matter where. Let us know where we should go, and we'll go try it for you guys. Alright, so enjoy the show. Make sure to subscribe. Trump. Truth social. God damn, that's a long fucking paragraph. Yeah, I'm down. It's your president. He's not my president. I'm just associated with it. Alright, I'm gonna read this shit. The Super Bowl halftime show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst ever. Don't agree at all. It makes no sense. Read it! It's in the front to the greatest of America. It doesn't represent our standards of success, creativity, or excellence. Nobody understands a word. This guy is saying, that part, I agree, guys.
SPEAKER_03Shut up and read the damn thing.
SPEAKER_01And the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the USA and all over the world. This show is just a slap in the face to our country, which is setting news standards and records every single day, including the best stock market of 401k in history. What the fuck is he bringing stock markets into this? There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a half halftime show. And watch what? And watch. It will get great reviews from the fake news media because they haven't got a clue of what is going on in the real world. And by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new kick-off rule. Make America great again. Donald J. Trump. Donald J. Trump.
SPEAKER_03Alright. That was it. Keep reading what? What are you trying to keep reading?
SPEAKER_01I'm just trying to read against the thing. You're trying to process. No, I am a little bit. So I do I one thing I do agree with is like, do you understand when Bad Bunny sings? Do you understand what he's saying? Because I can't. I know a few words when you know the way he sings is like, can you can you pronounce it a little bit better? But that's not that it's like mumble rap.
What Should Bands Play And For Whom
SPEAKER_03No, let's let's be very, very, very honest. No, let's it's what?
unknownRs are L.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah. I didn't know that. I'm more okay. So all the are the R's are L.
SPEAKER_03Okay, but let's let's be very, very clear with something.
SPEAKER_01I want to say one thing. I love the show, by the way.
SPEAKER_03So don't come at me when No, we're not coming at you. But music is a universal language. You're not supposed to understand it. It's it's the it's the feeling that it's supposed to give to you. So you left up and got him style. Nobody understood anything the guy was singing. We listen to Afro Beats music. We don't know what the fuck they be saying. Zero. But it's the vibe of what the music is. Some people from the US, like they listen to our Papi Mento music. They don't know what the fuck is saying, but they understand it. It's a very beautiful thing. It's nice how it makes you feel, how you see people enjoying it. That is what music does. That's the language of music. So I don't think everything is always about understanding it. Like everybody watches each other's cultures and it's about respecting it and trying to understand. Okay, I don't know the words, but I can see the emotion that you're bringing through with this performance. I can see what you're doing. So um, yeah, I just think his tweet is like he's I get it, ridiculous. I do agree. It's a bit disrespectful to cultures because I feel like watching the show, I just got a chance to watch the show. Um, the guy really instilled our culture. If you did not, if you're not from any of these islands and you did not see in this representation your aunt, your cousin, your friend, your uncles with the domino games and the little supermarkets and the sugar cane feels and the flags and everything about it, even like the little kid that was sleeping on the three chairs. That is so typical to how we we go party. You know, the I don't continue partying. If you sleepy, take a nap here.
SPEAKER_01100%. The the white little chairs, too. Yeah, it's everything about our culture.
SPEAKER_03So it is disrespectful to see him say stuff like this. I understand.
SPEAKER_01Because he because one, he doesn't understand the language, two, it's not his culture. So he's like, well, it's not our. I get the part that American football is American football, it's an American game, and you put a Spanish only singer, not with zero English, onto an American Lady Gaga was there. She sang an English song. True. So I got no, I got no comic for it. It's one person, one song.
SPEAKER_02Okay, you just said no songs at all. Okay, now we think you a song, now it's still a problem.
SPEAKER_01But it wasn't a bad, it wasn't Bad Bunny, it was a Lady Gaga song. It was it was not it's not a Bad Bunny song. Which by the way, the Lady Gaga remix that one, I I loved it. I don't know about you. Nah, it was really good. I I never pictured them making that song into a sauce or something.
SPEAKER_03But I think that was I think that was his purpose with okay. So, first of all, Bad Bunny is extremely intentional with everything that he does. Um, he does he uses his art form and he does it the right way. If I have a platform, I might as well use it to educate people and inform them of what injustice is and everything that's going on. And we saw this from um the one he did before in Verano Verano Cinti, I believe that was the first album that he dropped a few years ago, the same year, like 2022 or 2021. But even with that, when he did um that that whole thing, he was like, Okay, so there's like this transgender uh person from Puerto Rico. He was like, No, um he dressed up in I think Yoppere Sola, the music video. Yeah, he dressed in the skirt and all that. It was representing the this homeless person from um Puerto Rico. So he was like, No, I'm gonna highlight this. Yeah, he was like, No, I'm gonna stick a stand, I'm gonna show you that no, we represent every and everybody here. It's not no like, oh no, we don't do that, we're too masculine for this.
SPEAKER_01Nah, the man is a straight man. And that's the one thing like some Americans really highlighted. Like, the guy's gonna come out in a dress, it's gonna come out in a skirt. But they don't they don't know the full story of like they're not looking to understand to find out.
Favorite Carnival Tracks Of The Season
SPEAKER_03This information is there, it's legit there on the same internet that we all use. What is what is your excuse to not doing your research? You did not want to know. That's how I take it. Because the same thing we want to know about American stuff, we do our research and we find out about them. So if you cared, and I guess his whole performance was all about we're not segregating, we're not gonna keep everybody apart. We are going to unite. So let me bring an American artist to sing here with me. Let me show you what our culture is about. Y'all, let's not pretend like American culture doesn't take over everything from the Caribbean cultures and all of what we do. We start a lot of trends, they take it over. Like, what can we say? Facts are facts. You can see it in fashion, you see it in every single thing. You see how what people the fashion designers come to the Caribbean, drive around, look at what people are doing, how they are dressing, what is it? And they go back and they make that into Versace and they make that into some of the biggest brands. Yeah, and you're like, my aunt did that like in 20 years. 20 years ago. Stop that. That is not a fashion statement. Like, what are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01We do that on a regular did you know the apparently the you know the kid he gives the Grammy thing to? You know that's the kid that ICE arrested. Remember, there's a whole thing going around that a five-year-old kid was arrested with ice and they put him on the you know, the picture of the kid?
SPEAKER_03I don't I don't know. I don't follow American music. But I mean, well, it was like everywhere. No, but I mean uh ice has been doing a lot of things.
SPEAKER_01I know I know, but like there was one specific article that went super viral of ICE arresting a taking a five-year-old kid, putting him in the truck. That was the same kid from that arrest that he put into the show. Just like the the couple that got married, they reached out to Bad Bunny. Hey, we want you to come to our wedding. Bad bunny says, No, I want you to be my Super Bowl show. And they're like, What the fuck? Like, I'm getting goosebumps. That's crazy. That was an actual marriage. It was a real wedding. Yeah. That's it. I didn't see it. That was a real wedding. What else was crazy about that?
SPEAKER_03Even though I like the symbolism that he even used with the kid, like them watching the Grammys. He just won Album of the Year last week. Yeah. So even having that, where it's like it's that little Spanish kid which represents him when he was younger, looking at himself in the TV and be like, okay, here's that Grammy. Look, this is good. Here's the Grammy. Here you go. Take it.
SPEAKER_00I didn't think I didn't think from that perspective. Bunny is a genius. This guy's like, here, this is this is you.
SPEAKER_03Here, Spanish kid and all other Spanish kids that are looking at this.
SPEAKER_01Like, he had a message like, you know, I never stopped believing in myself, and you shouldn't believe you shouldn't stop believing in yourself either. As he should.
SPEAKER_03He was it was good. It was a good show. That was spectacular. That was that, but his tour in general, this is what he's been doing. Like, even his kickoff to what how he did on the island, of to like, you know what, I'm not doing no tours outside.
SPEAKER_01You now he did through tours outside of just after. He did zero tours in the states.
Super Bowl Night Vs Local Culture Events
SPEAKER_03Now he's doing yeah, now he's he's starting like outside tours. But now he first the first tours, everything was Puerto Rico. Once he did the everybody, that's what it was about. It was okay, Puerto Rico, we're struggling. We just had a hurricane. Um I think something happened with Trump. I can't remember what he did. All this shit was going, it was a lot of shit going on. So it was like, okay, well, then let me fix where I'm from. I'm doing my concert, my tour. I know everybody wants to come, everybody wants to attend. So then let's activate the whole the whole island. So every single company was just like, hey, listen, if you want to be part of it, just promote, um, take take more photos, make more memories. That was the the activation that they took for the island. So every company was, they had a sticker, they had a logo, they had, oh, you want coconut shore. The coconut had engraving on it of take photos, debilitat photos. It was all about taking more photos, making memories, overdo it, go crazy. The entire island activated. Everybody that came there activated. They understand what to wear. This our hat, these hats, this represents our culture. These clothes, this represent our culture, these jobs, that's our culture. Playing dominoes, the girls dancing, that's how we dance. This is what we do. Sugarcane feels all of these things. It's our culture, it's what you see on a regular, these are how people work, this is how they feed their families. So the message behind it is huge, huge. It was huge representation for all of us. There's no way in how you could watch the performance and not be proud of that. Bro, we used to the Aruba flag, which is dope.
SPEAKER_01Aruba Bunny Articular. I was watching it in Gusto and I was like, wait, it's like the Aruba flag, the blue color sticks out so like so much, like you, it's like you can't miss it. So when I saw the in the back, I'm like, wait, no fucking way that's Aruba. Made a video real quick, but that was really fucking dope to watch. Do you think that compared to the other shows in the past? Rihanna, or do you do you think I'm I know you're gonna probably gonna say like it has its own meaning? Who? So Bad Bunny show compared to like previous shows. Would you say it's like one of the best shows ever? It definitely is in the top three.
SPEAKER_03It had the thing is the timing of it all, yeah, and the the the times that we are in. I feel like the other ones, the other Super Bowl shows, nothing really was going on. So it was just like you're looking forward to a halftime show. It's whoever the artist is, don't matter. You're looking forward to the halftime show. But this one had symbolism to it, it had meaning, it had thought, everything to it, the stage, even the breaking down, falling in, and even the everything. The casita is part of like his tour. It's legit, the typical houses that you see in Puerto Rico. He toured with that.
SPEAKER_01There was the the lady he took a shot with, or like we went. Yeah. That's like the from what I heard, is the that's the owner of a bar, a Puerto Rican bar in New York is the last original Puerto Rican bar in all of New York. Makes sense why he chose Nueva York for that. He put her her address on it so people can go to that place and you'll find the bar shit go to make sure, like, hey, give this girl attention attention. Yeah, I you are right with a part of um everything had a meaning and intention behind it. Always with Babani.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Benito.
SPEAKER_01I understand though, like why some people get mad because, like, hey, sorry you can't understand the language, but the rest of the world also speaks Spanish. So it is.
SPEAKER_03And Puerto Rico is part of America, so I don't understand why Americans are so mad. Like, yeah, like what are y'all talking about? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, he is American. I understand it doesn't speak English properly. He doesn't have any songs in English. But I know a lot of Americans that love.
Trump’s Post And Language Backlash
SPEAKER_03I mean, what does that say about the American school system? I you do y'all not get Spanish in school? Like y'all only so all Americans know is just English? That is it? That's English is all we know? That is embarrassing.
SPEAKER_01No, they get Spanish, I just don't remember it because they never use it in the in the States. Listen, I was whose fault is this? I was in Gusto, I was in Gusto uh the last night, and the whole place was packed, Americans, and everybody was loving it. So you can't you can't tell me like, oh, this halftime show sucks. It didn't suck. It just wasn't for some people. And it could be language barrier, it could be the reason because I think a few months ago um Ben Bunny was like not protesting against America, but like talking shit about America, and some Americans don't like it.
SPEAKER_03Too bad. I don't think you said anything bad, but it is what it is. I'll look it up. Well, actually, no. Nah, it is no, he said what the fuck he said.
SPEAKER_01Well, he was I saw burning a flag. So there's a f there's pictures. Nah, it could be, yeah, I was gonna say it could be AI.
SPEAKER_03He does not bring it up. Like that would never happen. That would never happen.
SPEAKER_01Let me see.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm barely on the news.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, cuz this ain't it. This ain't it. But all in all, oh, he had all the the Spanish celebrities, he had Ricky Martin perform as well. Yeah. One of his songs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, that was cool. Um you hear Daddy Yankee's song, Duna Meyer's song, like playing in the background, like a transition.
SPEAKER_03That man is just was good. That man is just wow. And again, his music is the shit. I don't know Spanish. I don't know what Bad Bunny be singing. Same. But I've been a fan, listen to this man's music. It's just it's in again, it's part of our culture. How much music don't play in the nightclubs? We don't know what the fuck is going on, but we'll be singing that shit.
SPEAKER_01A single night that in any clubs that they don't play Bad Bunny at least once. True or false? True. Yeah, no, that everywhere.
SPEAKER_03At least once, two or three times. His catalog is way too big to not be played.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03There's one more thing I wanted to add. What's that?
SPEAKER_01Fuck, I forgot. The trees? The tree people? No. That's fine though. Like, I didn't I was wondering, like, how the fuck did they move all those trees like and you know, make it so quickly? Bro, they're all costumes, all people dressed in trees. Like production. This makes like I get it. I got it. It's production. You think this one was better than the Jay-Z one? No, sorry, Dr. Dre.
SPEAKER_03Um, that was not a big fan of that one. I think that one was right after Rihanna.
SPEAKER_01I'm yeah, it was.
SPEAKER_03I think so, yeah. I can't remember, but I mean it wasn't bad. It wasn't a bad performance. Last year was Kendrick. Yeah, that was whatever. I mean, like it was a good performance, but this this was Chef's Kids.
SPEAKER_01I think everybody just wanted to watch last year's just because to see the dissing of Drake. That's all they wanted to see.
SPEAKER_03I mean, Kendrick had fans. He had a really good album. So like GNX was a really good album. So I only know like one song, that's it. Anyways, well don't expect a lot from you, Sam. Like Boy Major. No shade, but like That was a lot of fucking shade. It's not cold play or nothing like that to be like, okay, yeah, you would know a few songs. Like it's a rap music. You as a white boy, like yeah, let the look, dude. Did I lie? Slight, slightly. I know I know some hip hop music. Exactly. You know some hip-hop music. I you barely even know the name of his album. No, I don't know. I exactly my point.
SPEAKER_01But I know I don't know much many albums either. I just know songs. Like, oh, I like that song, I like it. Done. I don't I don't go, I'm not like you where I go and find that's what I'm trying to say.
SPEAKER_03Like, why are you trying to fight it? But don't make it sound like I'm a fucking idiot. I never said that.
SPEAKER_01You're like, so you don't really know much about anything.
SPEAKER_03Music-wise, yeah. You listen to the to the same type of songs. You like rock. Oh my god, do we not have a radio show? Like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_01True, guys. Tune in every Saturday from 10 to 12.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right, let's end it here. Let's do that. Great halftime show. Too bad for those that didn't like it. Your favorite president.
unknownOh my god, bro.
Bad Bunny’s Intentionality And Cultural Symbols
SPEAKER_01Listen, you love the man. You did some great things. Anyways, guys, tune in every single week. We'll see you guys. What day is today? This is Thursday. So we'll see you next Tuesday or on Saturday. Oh, no Saturday. There's Saturday. No show. Shark is gonna be in carnival. I might make it, I'm not sure. But um, other than that, we'll see you next week. Peace. Ayo.
