Welcome to the new season of the Girls Are Investors podcast. If you're a student or early career professional curious about breaking into investment management, this is for you. I'm Becky, part of the marketing team here at Gain, and like many of you, I didn't grow up knowing anything about the investment world.
Eloise:And I'm Eloise, also part of the marketing team here at Gain. We're really excited about learning with you and sharing what we find along the way. So, what is Gain?
Becky:Girls Are Investors is a charity helping more young women and non-binary students explore careers in investing. Why? Well, because not enough do.
Eloise:GAIN offers real roots in, not just advice. We run programs like the School Investment Challenge for students in years 10 to 13, the Gain Investment Insight programme for university students, and the Gain Empower Investment Internship Programme, placing students in paid roles in investment firms.
Becky:And this podcast, which is a space for honest conversation, industry insights, and useful advice. Whether you're studying finance or still Googling what is investment management, you are welcome here.
Eloise:Let's talk about why this matters. Investment management is a space where women and non-binary people are still underrepresented. Gain exists to change that.
Becky:And this is the scale of what we do. In 2025, we reached over 12,500 students, helped place 130 interns across 80 firms, and ran over 30 events across the UK.
Eloise:And this isn't just about the numbers, it's about confidence, it's about visibility and it's about realising that you can do this, even if no one around you is in the industry.
Becky:So, what makes gain different from all of the other career platforms that are out there?
Eloise:First, it's practical. This isn't just LinkedIn tips. You'll learn how to pitch a stock, how to talk to a fund manager, and how to spot opportunity.
Becky:And second, it's personal. You're going to hear from real people, gain alumni, analysts, interns, portfolio managers, talking honestly about what it's like, what they learned, and what they wished they'd known.
Eloise:And finally, it's community. You're not just applying solo, you're a part of something. A network of students just like you.
Becky:Here's what's coming this season. We're going to be dropping episodes every two weeks, and each one is designed to be short, sharp, and useful.
Eloise:You'll hear career explainers like what is investment management? Alumni panels on how to secure and succeed in your internship, market explainers that don't feel like provision notes, and tips on interviews, building confidence and even tackling the dreaded imposter syndrome.
Becky:And it's not just talk, this is stuff you can actually use. So whether you're writing a CV, preparing for an interview, or just figuring out if investment is even your thing.
Eloise:Thanks for listening to episode one. If this resonated with you, hit follow, leave us a review, and share it with someone who needs to hear this.
Becky:Y ou can find out more about our programmes at gainuk.org, and that's where you'll find details about our internships, events, and upcoming challenges. If you've got a question or a topic you want us to cover on the podcast, then drop us a message at gainuk underscore org. That's on Instagram or TikTok, and we'd love to hear from you. Eloise:Bye.
