So a new season of a show came out this week. Have you watched any of the paper? No, but you've been telling me about it. Have I t told you about it? I really like it. It's like it's from the same people that made The Office, and you have to like the Office in order to like the paper or Parks and Rec because it's set up sort of the same way. It's that like interview style thing where they like try humor. Yeah. But it is really, really funny. And I'm hoping that it makes it more than two seasons, but who knows? We'll see.
SPEAKER_03But we uh recently just started Lucky on Apple TV. Oh, you didn't start that yet? No, we like we've had too many things to watch. And last night we kind of ran out, and it was like, I've been waiting to watch this, and I'm bummed that I've waited this long to watch it.
SPEAKER_02You should be bummed. That show is fantastic. It's really good. You know, I speaking of that show, uh obviously everybody thinks the world of Anna Taylor Joy, but I think Timothy Oliphant is horribly underrated. Fantastic. He is so good as an actor in everything he does. Yeah. I will it's all kind of the same person. So maybe he's not good, but like he is really good at that.
SPEAKER_03It's different degrees of it though. Sure. Yeah. And so it doesn't, it doesn't feel like he's it doesn't feel like you're watching The Rock, where it's the same performance over and over.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, have you even seen Baywatch? No, but I have seen um Hobbs and Hobbes and Jumanji. What is that one? It's called Hobbes and Jumaji. Yeah, that's what I thought. It was a really weird mashup between Jumanji and it's the fast skyscraper uh series.
SPEAKER_03Rampage. Yeah. A little side fact though, like my first book series was called Ember the Ember series, and one of the main characters in it is um a younger like uncle authority figure for my um main protagonist. And I always saw him as being the uncle, like he was perfect casting for it. And um, I used to do that online. I'd have the fans, the readers, um, like who would be their dream cast, and they always picked him to be uh this guy's name, his uncle Frank in the book. But I just always Yeah, he does feel like an uncle Frank. Because he was he could play the old enough toughness, but he was also fun and a little he could do the series.
SPEAKER_02Are you saying that all just because of the movie Girl Next Door? Oh god, I love doing Girl Next Door. I actually love that movie. That's a classic. Yeah, it really is. Yeah, cool. Anyways, you were talking about Oh, that's it. I just wanted to see if you'd seen it. Like, we never talk about stuff anymore. All we do is we come in here and we record an episode, and I wanted some effing small talk. That's all. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, like you got a review of the paper, like other than it's just good? It's good.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02It's funny. I don't think I feel like they don't really have any actors that I think anybody would know, except that they Oscar. One of the characters from the office? Yeah. Is now on the show and he's funny.
SPEAKER_03I'm kind of glad they did that though.
SPEAKER_02I figured I feel like that would play better, kind of making it stand on its own a little bit. Go to commercial. Wait, we don't have commercials, go to music. Actually, we do. We had a commercial for a while for six listens. Pay no, it was nine. Oh, was it nine? Yeah. Hey, but it met his help met make those guys move. You only get 1.4 cents per listen. I don't know, but we made bank on nine. 13 cents.
SPEAKER_03You imagine if we got like 10 or 11 listens?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we would uh pay for who would have made 15 cents. Don't spend it all in one place, dude. You sure? Won't spend it on watching the paper. No, I don't even know what that's you're gonna need to. It's on Peacock. You can't just watch it on TV. I'll just use yours. You can't do that either because I use yours. You can use mine. Good stuff. All right. Uh sorry, FCC, you didn't see that. You didn't hear that. Either or. Do FCC they see shit. Yeah, by the seashore.
SPEAKER_03Can you say that five times fast?
SPEAKER_02They see shit by the seashore. She shed. FCC, see shit by the seashore. All right, fuck that shit. Let's get out of here. Wait, the episode's over now. Oh, we're just starting, but uh yeah, we'll we'll be back in a minute. I'm mad and I'm Dan. Welcome to Hangout recently. We'll catch you on the flip side. So I'm having a tough time deciding between three things.
SPEAKER_03Let me help. No. Uh oh.
SPEAKER_02We could get the Lama Tama back out? We cannot. I hate that thing.
SPEAKER_03But it likes you.
SPEAKER_02No, it doesn't. See, it agreed with me. No, it does not. Lamatama. Lama Tama. Do you like my co-host?
SPEAKER_03Aww. You guys just become best friends.
SPEAKER_02That's real masculine. Who are you asking? You two. No? Sounds about right. Alright, I'll put him away. Thank you. Okay. So, yeah. So part of me wants to do I'm sad. Because I feel like I've been hearing it more recently. Okay. Part of me wants to do low-key. That's been out for a little while. Yeah, and we haven't really talked about it, and I feel like people say it all the time. They really have. Part of me wants to do one that I hadn't heard until I looked up this article. Okay. Which is search it up. Is this like your pre-search thing? This is like my internet challenge thing. Which is part of the reason that I want to do this word, because I want I want to teach people about the joy of the internet challenge. I do I'm how do we not do low-key? We haven't done that yet, though. Alright, alright, we'll do low key. We can save the other two for later. Okay. So we're low-key gonna do low key? No, we're high key gonna do low-key. Oh we have to explain what high key is as well, too. It's like an A sharp, right? Yes. Anywho, um I don't think we need to explain high key because I don't know that people really even say that. But they do say low-key. We've been hearing it a lot on TV, in podcasts. I'm trying to write common speech. I guess we'll look it up, but there's also apparently a variant called Low Kenuanely. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03That was uh that came out not too long ago. And again, when that came out, I was like, why haven't why haven't we done low-key? I mean, because it's does that doesn't go back to the 80s though, right? Maybe 90s, 2000s?
SPEAKER_02It's a bit of a flashback, but not I guess, but it's it's if it was, it's definitely rebounded in popularity. Like it's used a lot. Well, like the low kin Kinanly or something. That's oh low canly? Yeah. That's uh that's gotta be brand new. Nobody with like nobody that ate Cheerios growing up ever came up with the city. Well, yeah, that's like that's from like six months ago, I think, when that when that started to take off.
SPEAKER_03And I'm trying to remember what meme it was. There was some something on uh what's that? Uh we could give him a shout out if I can remember who he is. The the middle school teacher. He always does the words for the week of what's the things, and that when that took off, he was that was like top of the list for like three months.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't remember his name, but yes. I'll try to find him and give him a shout-out or you know, click on this. Yeah. Oh low-key, don't do that. But, anyways, this is one of the ones. This is a term that I feel like, unlike the previous episode, Burger, this is a term I feel like I can get behind. I feel like just because by nature my naughty attitude and disposition are low-key, that like everything I do is low-key blank. You think so? Yeah. I could I mean, I guess. Sure. I feel like everything I do is the opposite of that. 100%. You didn't have to like go 100, you could be on like 97 or something. 110. Why is it getting worse? Because you keep talking. So what do you got for low-key? But low-key is interesting to me because it's sort of interesting to me. Because that's literally what it means, is that I'm sort of interested in something. That's kind of yeah, you you're kind of interested in the like well everything a little bit. A little bit, yeah. Like everything piques my interest in some way, shape, or form. There are very few things that I am past the stage of low-key, like the San Jose Sharks, I'm more than low-key interested in. Yeah, true. Um, I feel like opening my own restaurant, I'm more than low-key interested in that. Everything else, I'm basically low-key interested in it.
SPEAKER_03I feel almost like that's why I mean, like in your work life, uh what you've gravitated towards is why you're so good with people.
SPEAKER_02So I almost feel like anybody can come at you with something and you would be enough to be interested in it. I have enough in my brain to have a conversation about almost anything somebody says. And you also come off very genuine about it.
SPEAKER_03Low can you even if it's something you're like, because if you don't know about it, you it's like you get interested, you want to learn about it real quick, and then then you decide if like, oh, this is worth my time or not, but you at least put a little bit of effort into it. You get to be my age, 42, and things just you just want to listen to the things like oh,'d you say transformers? Oh, would you say cake? Yeah, stuff like that. Anything else, I'm not listening. What'd you say I wasn't listening?
SPEAKER_02Nothing. It definitely didn't have to do with the fact that you're not 42.
SPEAKER_03Are you trying to say I still look 37?
SPEAKER_02I'm not trying to say that. Squint. Do you have any do you have any Vaseline? Well let me see. It's almost like I work for STP. That's not stone temple pilots. Oh. Oh, now I get it. Or did he? Too soon? Did you what? Diddy Yes or no. Is he low-key a pedophile? Not low-key enough. Um yeah, so anyways, I think that it's a term that like is uh fun and easy to use and short and to the point, and actually has resemblance in its natural definition to the slang definition. Did you get the official definition? I mean, the one that's on this, which is just sort of interested in something. Okay. But because you care so much about the words on the Well, we do have a contract with Urban Dictionary.
SPEAKER_03We do not have a contract with Urban Dictionary.
SPEAKER_02We will eventually have a low-key contract with Urban Dictionary. An adjective that means, according to Merriam Webster, quiet and relaxed, not very forceful, emotional or noticeable, of low intensity or restrained. The slang variant of low-key, often written without the hyphen as low-key. Functions, I did not know that it was just one word. Functions as an adverb. Low-key is typically used to describe a speaker's desires or emotions. Loki retains the dictionary definition's meaning of low intensity and not very emotional. However, additionally, it can also indicate something that is secretly, perhaps somewhat shamefully, wanted or felt by the speaker. In short, low-key is used to describe a speaker's thoughts, feelings, and desires, and it means moderately, of low emotional intensity, or two secretly. The opposite of low-key is high key. I low-key want to eat an entire cake. See, that's a low-key you can get behind. Yep. I high-key want to eat healthy, but low-key want to eat an entire cake. I've never heard anybody use high-key in a sentence like that. I am low-key in love with Kevin Spacey, and it all comes back to he's not a good one to be in love with.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Is low-key spelled L-O-K-E-Y? Or does it have the W in there? It has a W. I want to say I've seen that both ways, kind of like uh bougie, where it's got three different spellings.
SPEAKER_02But it is, it's one word, right? Yeah. I feel like Loki is he agrees. I feel like Loki is um something where like sometimes to calm the dogs down at home, we will put on bluey. Doesn't work. Sometimes. But what it does do is make me realize I low-key like bluey. I had never watched it before, but it's kind of a good little show. I almost have other Australian accents. I feel like that's what's going on.
SPEAKER_03Everybody's like, all of the dogs will watch them, but I feel like that's what it is, is the people this is for me. The owners are like, I kind of like having it on. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then sometimes the dogs watch it. Yeah. He's gonna let us know when we're telling the truth or not. Is he? He did a minute ago. Sure. You called him out on it. You low-key love that guy. I don't low-key love that guy. I do low-key love these guys. I know you do. You're such a sucker. Talks a lot of shit about my dogs with smooshed faces. To be fair, they deserve it. But you're right, it's high key. It's high key. Nobody says the high key thing. Because high key is a is a term in uh photography. Oh, I thought high key was like what you say right before you roundhouse kick somebody to the face. Hikey! Hikeia! Yeah, my favorite. It's my favorite um automobile. Yeah. Well, my favorite automobile when it's been smoking.
SPEAKER_03No, high key is in pictures like when it um it's rolled bright white behind them. That's a high key photograph. Oh.
SPEAKER_02Like so it looks like they're gonna have big white room overly light saturated. Yeah, that's hikey. So it's a style. It's actually a style I actually really love for photography. My wife is very good at that. High key and photography.
unknownI'm low.
SPEAKER_02I'm low-key trying to get her some business. That wasn't very low-key. That was pretty on the nose. Um I don't know. What are other things that you low-key like? Um You're low-key getting me into hockey. I'm trying. Yeah. It's gonna take some work.
SPEAKER_03More hockey stuff keeps popping up in my feeds because the little more stuff I watch.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_03He got me on this. Uh we give these guys a shout-out. Of course we can.
SPEAKER_02They're great. Uh a podcast called What's Chaos? What Chaos?
SPEAKER_03Is it? Yeah, just what chaos. See? Low-key listen to it all the time. Yeah. Um they're great. They give us he wants me to listen to it because it's what we should be striving for as a duo, even though they're a trio. But he also wants me to fall in love with hockey. And to get into their ep to their podcast, you really do need to.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, within reason, but like this is why I made you listen to it during the summer, because during summer they do topics that aren't hockey. Yeah. But also they have been talking hockey a little bit recently because the new some of the new screen grabs from NHL 27 have come out. Yeah. And the face scanning that they did. Yeah, they've been already turned to that. It is so good. So, so good. And God help me, I hope that EA is playing some like evil trick where like, yeah, this game's gonna look horrible. Definitely don't get this, and then it turns out to be the best game they've ever produced. Uh-huh. But man, if those are their face scans, like guys, you've been doing this for 15, 20 years. Yeah. You can't possibly be getting it as wrong as I'm seeing. I found their podcast because I like hockey, which if when you have a very popular topic, like hockey is liked by a lot of people. Even if you like slang, your first thought is probably not, I wonder if there are any good slang podcasts. We and we found early on, too, that a lot of our early listeners. We found over 120 plus episodes that that's not anybody's first search. Well, we found out that uh people wanting to learn the English language were clicking on us. We were getting a lot of that. Well, to be fair, that's our assumption. Well because they're from different countries that English is not their primary language, so we're assuming that that's what it was about. Well, that'd be the only reason for them to click on us. Would it? Maybe they just like AI generated content. He's always he's low-key, always gunning for somebody. Um not low-key. That's something I am very hikey about. Uh so I'm gonna talk to my okay. So other than hockey, are there any things that you're finding yourself low-key interested in?
SPEAKER_03Um I'm trying to think because honestly, my my interests are.
SPEAKER_02Might as well say cheese balls.
SPEAKER_03That's just like the last week, and that's your fault.
SPEAKER_02Again, not my fault.
SPEAKER_03Mostly Tyler's fault, honestly. Mostly your fault. And do you want to, now that we're on camera, do you guys you want to explain your whole cheese puff, cheesy, cheesy doodle like scenario that you have? He has a certain way he likes to eat his Cheetos.
SPEAKER_02It's very controversial. It's nearly as controversial, controversial as the way I eat peanuts. It's low-key gross. Um because I tried to low-key through up my mouth. Depending on the listener, it might be more than low-key gross. Have I found have we found anybody that thinks you're right or okay for doing this? Have we? No. Have I? Yes. Can you put that person's butt in the seat right here? My dad's dead, and you know that. We could break out a Ouija board. That'd be that wouldn't that be fun to do that just to find out about the cheese buff thing? No, Ouija boards freak me out. All right. Your your obsession with still Cheetos freaks me out. But also, to be fair, like I have found other people other than that. We could get their butts and seats. I don't believe it. Tell them the story real quick, and then we'll see if anybody comes out of the shadows. Tell them the story really quick. So when I was a small child, uh, we would go over to my grandparents' house in San Jose all the time, and um, my grandma had a candy jar, as old people are wont to do. And one of the times that I was over there, I reached my hand into the candy jar, and instead of candy, out came a cheese puff. Like a Cheetos cheese puff. Stuck to your hand, or did you actually grab it? No, I grabbed it. Okay, just checking. Because it was a cheese puff. Well, they can start. I saw cheese puffs before that, so I was like, oh, this is exciting. And he had sweaty grumbly. It's definitely more of a salty snack person than a sweet snack person, so I was excited about it. And I ate it, and my first reaction was ew gross, because it was so stale. Who knows how long that Cheeto's been in there? That may be the reason that I can eat most things without them hurting my stomach, because I had a Cheeto that who knows how old it was. Yeah, iron gut. But as I continue chewing it, I realized that I really like the flavor is what I like of cheese puffs, but I've never really liked the texture. They just feel like they fall away. It's for the same reason that I'm not really crazy about cotton candy. Like I need there to be something to it. And so when you stale cheese puffs, it gives them a different texture. Like it gives them sort of a squishy, spongy texture, which will probably gross a lot of people out. But my dad and I liked it enough that we would routinely buy bags of cheese puffs, throw them in a bowl, throw the bowl on top of the fridge because they stale better up there for some reason. And three or four days later we would enjoy that. Days people. At least at least three or four days.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02How much of that was dust on top of them? We honestly thought about marketing it to Frito Lay to see if they would pre-stale them and put them in bags. I kind of I bet they do. I wonder if they have like a like a storefront for all the stuff that has gone bad. Because I would pile stone cheetos, I would buy all of their cheese buffs. We always have to send those back to the low-key delicious. That makes me wonder. What would I guess they just give them to the homeless or the food banks or stuff? They don't deserve anything that good. They won't even know how to appreciate it. Ugh. We used to give all our I haven't my newest company, I don't know, but the old one used to give all our uh outdated like lunch meats and steaks and stuff and just throw it in a giant pile when the food bank would come get it. We're talking about like gray meat and shit. I was just like all our rotten fruit. That's how you get addicted to math. Good times, man. Because you're like, oh, I can't eat this shit. What's gonna make me not hungry? Oh, I gotta get it. I mean, yeah, we have yet the same company gives out free fruit to all the the healthy little children that walk in, but somebody who doesn't have a house, you know, you can take the mush.
SPEAKER_03You take the rotted shit. Can't just give them a fresh banana. American way.
SPEAKER_02Low-key the American way. I'm pretty sure that's high key the American way. If there's one thing we're good at, it's hating our uh our neighbors. Now I've heard it low-key a ton. I've never heard anybody say high-key in that aspect. I don't know the low-key, but I feel like that's made up. I mean I mean, I feel like I've heard it, but it's not if I've heard it, I've heard it once, where low-key I hear nearly daily. The next definition is when somebody voice when someone wants to be wants to do or be something but keeps it on the low for people to not find out, which I appreciate that because then it incorporates down low. Down low. Which is obviously a play on low-key. Well, the other t'other way around. Because down low existed before low-key did. The DL's been around for fucking ever. Has it? Yes. I'm telling you, we need to figure out when is what I like this definition to express genuine intent or interest in something while simultaneously dismissing its importance. You have not done nothing but work for two weeks straight. I low-key need a vacation. I feel like you can pick from you asked me about my low-keys, and I didn't directly ask you, but I mean you started out with one or two, but your top three things you're low-key about. I low-key three. I low-key like uh late 90s, early 2000s rom coms.
SPEAKER_03No, you don't. Yeah, you do. Yeah, you do. Absolutely do. Yeah. Um I feel like not just rom coms, though.
SPEAKER_02I feel like music, fashion. No, I like all of those things. I don't think those are as low-key. Like, I think part of low-key from going through a few definitions is like there has to be a little bit of a twinge of embarrassment to it. Like, you don't want to necessarily admit that you like it. Oh, okay. I can have it. Yeah, I can't. I have no problem admitting that I love 90s music and/or 90s fashion. There's a lot of good 90s music. I do sometimes have a problem admitting that I like 90s rom-coms. Well, it depends on the rom-com. Because some of those are classics now. Sure. Okay, what's your most embarrassing one? Out of all the 90s rom-coms? Yeah. Probably she's all that. It's a really good movie, though. I would figure people would consider that a classic. But they say some shit in there that's like, meh, you definitely couldn't show that to anybody now. Definitely a suspect. Sus, if you will.
SPEAKER_03What was the one with Scotty doesn't know? Is that Euro Trip?
SPEAKER_02Uh that's not really a rom com, though.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_02Can't Hardly Wait was definitely a rom-com. Yeah. That was that had a band with the name Burger in it. Did it? Yeah. What was the what was it Turdburger? No, it was the fuck was it?
SPEAKER_03I feel like that's the third or fourth time you've dropped Turd Burger today.
SPEAKER_02I just like that better than the turn. Uh then just burger. Love Burger is the name of the band. Love Burger, yeah. And they had like the Superman font logo on the chest.
SPEAKER_03So like, okay, then I low key, I'll stick to the music genre thing. Low key, like early 2000s, like pop was all about the boy bands, right? Yeah. And then it turned into like a lot of the they even did a couple girl bands.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I'll I'll get behind that one also, because I mean, I famously, one of my first two concerts was New Kids on the Block.
SPEAKER_03But like, once Britney Spears hit, there was just a wave of like, it was like, let's take the next little cute person and make them like a pop star or something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was American Minuto. Yeah, it was kind of like that. But there was a few, there was a there was a band that and because that wasn't good enough, a former member of Minuto decided to take the world by storm.
SPEAKER_03The sexiest man alive, little Ricky.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But P. Diddy did this thing where he put together a couple groups before we knew how bad he was. Now, even this group's come out and started saying some stuff too, but they were called they were called Dream. They were like a female in sync.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They the album they put out was one of the best pop albums I ever heard. And I'm low-key, like, I will still turn that up if a couple of their songs come on. And like Christina Aguilera's first after Genie and the Bottle, she had one or two hits. Those are like perfect pop perfections. And like I think like like I really, really like I'm gonna get so much shit about this. Mandy Moore's first song, Candy. I will cramp that shit, dude. I will karaoke the living shit out of that.
SPEAKER_02Okay, if we're doing this then, then I am also gonna throw out there uh this is different because it's before what you're talking about. Uh Tony Braxton. I low-key love Tony Braxton music.
SPEAKER_03I had to low-key love, I had to high-key love Tony Braxton because it was she was my wife's one of my favorite wife, or my wife's favorite artists.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and that was back when I really wasn't into RB. And she has a really like a tone that's like when Candace.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, when Candace and I first got together, that was like our favorite thing to do, is she would turn on Tony Braxton and we would sing it with the windows down. Tony Braxton had some hits though. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. So I mean, I don't even consider her break my yeah, that she was a I guess they would say she was technically a baritone, but she's I swear it's felt like she got even deeper than that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But no, she was she was the shit there for a little bit. But yeah. Yeah, there's just there's a handful of pop songs like that that I shouldn't like or I should have got over. Sure. Um, or just growing up having a daughter at the age of when like Selena and Miley and Taylor all took off, or even little even little Justin Bieber, like a couple of their first hit songs come on, and it's like I low-key like that song.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, it drives me crazy. I uh low-key like being interested in the less popular sports. You do. Because and that's not to say that like hockey and baseball and soccer aren't popular. Soccer is the most popular spot sport in the world, obviously. But like here it's not though. In the United States, they've made it so any idiot can like American football or basketball. And it's gotten even worse. Like they they shove it down your throat 24-7, 365. It does not matter if the sport is in season or not, like that's what you're gonna see most of. Yeah. And so like I find it rewarding to be able to talk about those sports, even though I don't particularly like them, but like the sports that are more on the fringes, like that they because I feel like those ones that are more on the fringes have a more like properly rabid fan base. Like, I don't think football football talks like they have a rabid fan base. No, you don't. Like, you get all the information you can ever need at all hours of the day. Yeah. Like you're talking about cornhole. People, I'm not gonna lie. I do this may not even be low-key. I do low-key though, love every year when they do ESPN the Ocho the first weekend in August on ESPN 2. Because then you do have things, it's not even cornhole, like it's worse than that. Like, there are some weird what about the tag in their national the national tag championships? That is fantastic. It's amazing. It's that is that is almost like you can't leave your seat. It is fast action and fun. I I want I would like straight high key. I would like yeah, I'm I'm out of the low-key range now. We are we are full high key. I would like the Sklar brothers to go back to doing cheap seats, but with all this new shit that's come out, because like they had the Scrabble championships and all that, and that was fantastic. But can you imagine them doing their review on the tag championship? Or on their one of the things on ESP and the Ultra this year was like a pumpkin shooting contest. Not like you were shooting pumpkins, but like you build a slingshot to see how far it could throw a pumpkin. Like they are so funny anyway, but like we are missing out on them talking more about the even more random sports that have come out since they stopped making that show. And they're back in the they're back in like the I don't want to say good graces, but they're back out in front for everybody. Like they went away for a long time, but the advent of Instagram and TikTok has kind of brought them back a little bit to the point where they're also touring again. But it's like go back to doing cheap seats. Cannot wait for them to come back, especially because now you don't even have to do you make money doing comedy, you don't even have to do it on ESPN, just make it an ESPN or YouTube show. Like I would subscribe tomorrow. I yesterday. Low-key.
SPEAKER_03But back to the uh claim about um American football. You we grow up with it, and it's like I ever since I've watched international football soccer, you get to watch the game. There's advertisement everywhere, but they don't stop the game for advertisement. Everything in American sports is dictated by commercialism and and breaks, and let's put the new Bud Light commercial on. I mean, they base the game around it instead of that that being based around the game. And it was nothing more obvious than when we just did the World Cup here and they made them take the whatever the hydration break.
SPEAKER_02Which, to be fair, in certain parts of the country that they were hosting games in, probably was necessary.
SPEAKER_03Yes, but it was not necessary in all locations, and it wasn't necessary to go to all the advertisement, and then they wanted to extend what was it? They wanted to extend the halftime so we could have a halftime show, which you don't need, you can just make it soccer because that's it was the World Cup soccer before it ever got near us. So watching that and not watching American sports, because I haven't been watching basketball or any of that stuff, but getting to watch it now, it makes it even harder for me to watch because it feels like everything is based around let's get to that Coors Light commercial, um, let's get to whatever the new penis pill or whatever and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's funny how it's all gauged towards men. Well, that's the other part of it too, is like you were talking about football at the beginning of that, and it's like the toxic masculinity of American society. It's like basically if you don't like football, you're not a man. Yeah. And I like football just fine, like, but I will never be the way that most football fans are about it. Like, I will get really excited the next time my team wins a Super Bowl. I will participate in talking shit on other teams during the season if my team's doing well. But I am much more interested in what's going on in hockey, what's going on in baseball, what's going on in soccer. I feel like the majority of, especially if I even felt bad on What Chaos the other day, they were interviewing that guy that was uh he's a Canadian guy that was a goalie for the Utah lacrosse team. Okay. Did you listen to any of the stuff they've been doing about lacrosse lately?
SPEAKER_03Um no, I didn't get to that.
SPEAKER_02So I guess they're doing a four nations tournament kind of like they did in just gonna be part of the show right now. Okay. They're doing a four nations tournament kind of like they did in hockey a couple years ago, and it's uh the United States, Canada. I don't remember who the third team is, and the fourth nation is like an indigenous nation in Canada or something like that, because indigenous people invented lacrosse. And like that is the coolest thing to me. I did not know that. Yeah, super, super cool. Anyways, so they were interviewing this guy that's a Canadian that's gonna start for the Canadian national team in goal, and like he seems really cool and down to earth. He plays for Utah, and they were interviewing him like five days before they played their semifinal match against uh Denver, I think. Yeah, they got at least for the early part of the game, got fucking walloped. And I felt so bad because I was like, oh man, they just turned everybody on to this guy, yeah, and now everybody's gonna tune in on Monday and watch this game and just watch him get smoked.
SPEAKER_03I I feel it goes back to the point you were mentioning about not liking any of the announcers because it goes right into what you were just saying about um it's all about America and like if you don't like this, you're not a man, and that's how the all the announcers feel. I think it's because a lot of them are former players, but I don't know why that's catered to so much.
SPEAKER_02Especially color commentators. Sorry about that, that's my fault. Um, they a lot of them are former athletes, but like, and I got spoiled, you know. I got to listen to Ven's Gully call games a little bit, and that's what announcer should be. I felt like every time I was watching a baseball game, somehow I was getting smarter. When I watch football, for the most part, every time I feel like I'm getting a little bit dumber than I was before I started. You can say Chris Collinsworth. Oh no, that's a lot dumber. Well, no, that's not a lot dumber. I don't I don't get any dumber by listening to Chris Collinsworth because I get angrier. I don't listen to Chris Collinsworth.
SPEAKER_03But like, okay, I'll I'll so this guy Bob Costus. He's so general. Any sport he does, he gives props to everybody, he makes it exciting. Like when he does like the Olympics, he can take something and make it seem like, oh, cool. I didn't realize that.
SPEAKER_02Well, and then I miss that. In the big sports specifically, everything's become about the soundbite and not necessarily like what's actually happening. And so I think that's the part that's frustrating because I think they're all searching for what that next soundbite's gonna be. So they just say more and more ridiculously stupid shit until somebody clips it and throws it in a reel or something like that. Whereas like hockey, a lot of the announcers have been doing it for their teams for like 30 plus years. Yeah. And so you're getting the guys that like legitimately care about calling the game and talking about what's going on on the ice and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_03Well, like the political environment for the last decade has been crazy, especially news-wise. And I low-key became a humongous Dan Rather fan. Always liked the guy, but not never never like have to be like a fan.
SPEAKER_02Rather listen to him than anybody else, am I right?
SPEAKER_03But to just deliver news, not trying to make anybody happy, not trying to stir the fire, just delivering news the way it used to be.
SPEAKER_02The point of the news is they give you the information and you get to decide how you feel about that information. Yeah. You gotta be a blank slate. Obviously, when something needs to be serious, you'd be serious. And to see why so it was serious, and to see the hate when that happens now because you're not one of the other.
SPEAKER_03Because you're not taking a side. Yeah. And honestly, it was okay to take sides to certain degrees on certain things, and it wasn't a big deal, and now it is. But I missed that common sense, and there's none of that, I feel like, in in sports casting, especially in football, American football. Not that, like, you know, some of the some of the British announcers and stuff, they can be the hardest, hard asses, and it's like, calm down a little bit, you're you're being a little extreme. So there is the other expect uh end of that spectrum to that. But um, it's hard if you watch a sport that doesn't cut away for a commercial every five seconds.
SPEAKER_02And I feel hockey doesn't do it as bad as either. They don't, but they have scheduled breaks. Yeah. So like I just feel like obviously they have their between periods stuff. That actually is important for resurfacing the ice and everything. But like there are 20-minute periods, and I think they're required to take a commercial break after it dips below 16 minutes, 12, 8, and 4. Yeah. Um, and I'm not blind to the idea that it's they do have to make money.
SPEAKER_03It's about getting eyeballs, watching whether putting butts in the seats, or whether getting, you know, you want as many people watching on TV. So I get it. And I know the people who pay the revenue for that, you gotta cater to that.
SPEAKER_02So I I get all that, but I just don't think it should shape the game. I think the game around the game. But there are people with lots of money that don't care about the bullshit that's going on.
SPEAKER_03I just I feel like if you could restructure and start something like that, it just would be a a breath of fresh air. High key. Low key? I'd want that to be high key. Oh, we bored him already?
SPEAKER_02I mean you were talking, so what? This is Remington if you guys haven't ever watched the show. And as soon as he learns how to talk, if you have watched the show, I won't need this. His name's still Remington.
SPEAKER_03Well, he's got all kinds of like little sir, dude. Rem. Remy.
SPEAKER_02The owner of my heart. Captain Hospital because he always hurts himself. He's got a twisted wrist as we speak. Twisted wrist, uh yeah, that's like one of my favorite bands from the 80s. All right, say bye. Bye. Alright. Do you have any other low-key things?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. Everything we started talking about got me all hot and bothered.
SPEAKER_02So now even your low-key things are low-key anymore.
SPEAKER_03I've low-key gotten back into comics, the love I used to have a long time ago. And I'm not about I'm not 100% like, oh, I have to have it. But because before I was a pretty major collector, but like I'm low-key kind of enjoying that again.
SPEAKER_02And like I think the thousandth issue of Spider-Man is getting ready to come out. I think, low-key, that it's important for people of our general age group to find those things and made them happy when they were a kid and rediscover them now. You're talking about fun dip. I wasn't. I was talking about handy snacks, but I mean I do have some big league chew in the corner there. Noise. But I think that you're never happier and more ignorant of what's going on around you than when you're a child. When you're like 10 to 12. And I think there's nothing that we need more than being ignorant of the things that are not ignorant of the things that are going around us. And maybe this is a very like, I don't know, uh, what's it called? Uh white privilege thing of me to say to be ignorant of those things. Like, I don't think you should stop caring about the things that are going on in the world around you. What I'm saying is sometimes it's nice to separate your brain from those things that are going on in the world around you. And if something such as Legos or comic books or big league chew or whatever gets you back to where your brain is operating at the range that it did when you were seven, eight years old. Yeah. I think it's worth it to have that in your life every once in a while. It's nice to like just be able to disassociate from not that you've become a bad person, but disassociate from who you become and go back to that almost most innocent portion of yourself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And ignorance probably just a hard word, but that's exactly what it is. Because when you're like nine and you have like your toys in front of you, whether it's a Hot Wheels or a Transformer or a baby doll or something like that, that's all that matters to you in that moment.
SPEAKER_02That is your world. Yeah. In that moment.
SPEAKER_03There's nothing going on.
SPEAKER_02And I feel like, especially in is decisive or divisive and the world on fire right now.
SPEAKER_03It's it's almost like a blanket. Like, uh, what I don't want to think about that. Let me transform Optimus Prime one more time. Right. Uh, we low-key should probably get out of here. All right. All right. I didn't mind low-key. You've you've had better words.
SPEAKER_02I have. You've low-key had better words. All of my words have been better than yours.
SPEAKER_03Not all. We're not gonna we're not gonna jump that shark again. Um well, I play a not too bright guy on TV.
SPEAKER_02Well, that depends. Guys are you watching this on TV? I will be watching it on my TV later. Yeah. All right. I'm Dan. Yeah, he sure is. I'm Matt. Uh, this is low-key been a good time. It's been alright. Um, especially the parts where I got to make fun of Dan. Which is every time. All right. So it's right. It's low-key been a good time. Yeah. It's all right. Anyways, uh, we will catch you on the flip side, slangers. Uh, don't forget, if you haven't already, to like, subscribe, and share. Um, tell a friend there might be one that could possibly be interested in this. Yeah. Uh feel free to support us in either subscribing or the support button, which will be somewhere around here.
SPEAKER_03And um, we'll send you some pretty things. Like $5,000 checks.
SPEAKER_02No, we won't send that. But neither will anybody else.
SPEAKER_03But um I think that are you saying there's a better chance they would get one of these signed than a $5,000 check?
SPEAKER_02There's a there's a 1 billion percent better chance of that happening. But I also think that outside of this, I think we really need to like get some glamour shots done and send those as our thing. I would do that in a heartbeat. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But anyways, this is hang out with your slang out. Thanks for being here, guys. Good word, words?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I think we did a good job.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we'll bring you another one next week, and we're getting close to episode 130.
SPEAKER_02So there might be some surprises going on with that one. When we get to episode 230, we'll have to make it a dental episode. You do realize we're about 400 listens away from 25,000. No way, really? Yeah, we got our next badge. I said badge with a B. If you get your next badge, uh you still don't get paid. But we're very excited for you that you got 25,000 listens. Now, in those 25,000 listens out of 30-minute episodes, they're only listening to about a minute and 30 seconds. But that's all we need. Okay. Uh, we'll see you guys next time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03For the third time.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I'm still Matt. He's still Dan. We will see you next time. Thank you, slangers.
SPEAKER_03Feel free to sing along with a song.
SPEAKER_02Love one another. Not like right now. Just not the lovey brother, love one another, stick it away. No. Oh. Do you got any new shows you've been watching recently?
SPEAKER_03I can't use that. I can't. God knows what I look like.
SPEAKER_02I saw what you looked like. And you're right. You can't use that. Okay. For real. We'll do it real. Fuck it, we'll do it live. Fuck it, we'll do it live. So you got any new shows you've been watching recently?
SPEAKER_03I can't cut that. You gotta clean that up a little bit for me. All right.
SPEAKER_02No, I can't. All right. Whenever you're ready. You and Jen got any new shows that you're watching recently? I don't. Why is that question so funny to you? Because I can tell you've been laughing. Oh. All right. You can tell that I've been laughing. I've laughed far less than the You still got tears in your eyes, dude. I know, that's just the way I am. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I'm just loosey goosey. I'm just a juicy man.
SPEAKER_02Okay. We're gonna nail it this time.
