8. Mindfulness as a Tool for Business and Life with Lee Deckelman
In today’s episode, I have Lee Deckelman on to talk about using mindfulness as a tool for both business and life.
Born in Baltimore and raised in Tullahoma, Lee joined the military after graduating high school, not out of a sense of duty, but because he lacked job prospects and he wasn’t ready for college. Seeking discipline and personal growth, he joined the special operations community, spending time as an Airborne Ranger and Green Beret before being medically retired just before the 9/11 attacks.
After struggling to find direction post-military, he worked as an Air Marshal and then did contract work in combat zones for nearly a decade. Seeking a change, Lee turned to yoga as a way to practice mindfulness and find inner peace. Lee started his foundation, Be Yoga Strong, in hopes to create a free yoga studio that is accessible to all.
In today’s episode, we’re talking about:
- The impact of mindfulness in business and in other creative pursuits
- How you can get started with practicing yoga and focusing on other mindfulness techniques
- Lee’s overarching goals of his foundation, Be Yoga Strong
- How to get your male partner/friend to ditch the macho ego and get involved with yoga and mindfulness
Lee also has a published memoir, “Internal Volume,” which is an honest account of his life over the last 56 years. Lee is so inspiring and his story and journey to yoga and mindfulness and how he’s using that to make the world a better place is one you don’t want to miss!
