Blessed Are Those Who Mourn

Season 2025 Episode 8

The Beatitudes, Pt. 2 | February 23, 2025

Pastor Bria Bradshaw

Matthew 5:3-12 (NIV) Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:4 (NIV) Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

John 11:32-35 (NIV) - When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. 35 Jesus wept.

BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN

Truth: God can’t bring comfort to a loss that we won’t mourn.

Psalm 34:17-18 (NIV) - The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

I. NAME WHAT YOU'VE LOST.

Ask - Is there a loss in my life that I’ve avoided or not given attention to?

II. MOURN WHAT YOU'VE LOST.

Ask - Have I made room to grieve or to express my brokenness to God?

III. RECEIVE FROM THE TRUE COMFORTER.

Ask - Where have I sought out my own version of comfort? How do You want me to make room for true comfort?
