New Format: What You Missed

SPEAKER_00

Peace peace, my good people. Welcome to another session with Shay. I am Shay, and this series of episodes, I'm going to call it shit you might have missed. Now, if you've been here for a while, you know distraction news. I decided to change that because distraction news now is all of that stuff is out of a thousand right now. So I want to cater it to things that you might have missed because there's so much stuff going on right now, and not to give highlight to any particular thing, but just to make you more aware of news that may or may not have been already covered on regular mainstream news. But let's be honest, they only cover what they want to cover, and they only give highlight to the things that they want us to be aware of. So just in case, here are some things that have happened in the past few days. Um today, as of the date of this recording, is October 13th, uh 2025, and the stories or the information that I'm going to be covering is going to go until about the 8th, 7th or 8th of October. Alright, to begin, a shooting at a crowded South Carolina bar leaves four dead. A mass shooting at a crowded bar in the southern U.S. state of South Carolina has left four people dead and at least 20 injured, officials said. Hundreds of people were gathered at the popular bar on St. Helena Island in the early hours of Sunday morning when gunfire broke out, leading to multiple victims and witnesses to run to nearby businesses for shelter. Four people were declared dead at the bar, and at least 20 were injured, including four who were sent to local hospitals in critical condition, the sheriff's office said. The incident is still under investigation and the sheriff's office is looking into possible suspects, it said. When police and first responders first arrived, they found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. It's not clear if the shooting was random or targeted. Robert Adams, who lives up the street from the bar, told The Island Packet, a local outlet, that he heard automatic gunfire that sounded like a machine gun. The bar where the shooting took place, Willie's Bar and Grill, offers Gullah-inspired cuisine and says on its website that it aims to spread the heartwarming spirit of the Gullah Geechee culture. The Gulla Geechee people are descendants of Africans who were enslaved on plantations along the southeastern U.S. coast, including in South Carolina. Willys did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Completely heartbroken to learn about the devastating shooting in Buford County, South Carolina. Republican Representative Nancy Mace wrote on X. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone who's impacted by this horrific act of violence. Congressman James Claiburn of Democrat of South Carolina wrote on X he's devastated by this senseless tragedy. I bet he is. Whether or not they want it to look a certain way and feel a certain way, maybe it's where I looked at. I purposefully do not use uh Fox News in anything that I share on a podcast because I feel like that shit is just made up bullshit. And yes, I do read it in order to see what level of bullshit they're trying to feed to people these days, but do I like give it as say this is what you should pay attention to? Absolutely not, because we don't do that over here. But the point I'm making is that the websites and places where I got the information from, it's not as detailed as it we want it to be. So is it because they don't want us to see that we're they're going to our places and shooting us up and we're just supposed to think it's random mass shootings or random violence? As much as we all are desensitized to the mass shootings of things lately, it's not as far fetched as we think it could be, but nevertheless, moving on. Trump can't deploy National Guard in Illinois, but troops can stay, the court rules. Which is a horrible title, but I'm gonna run with it. And below it in italics, it said President Trump can still can still federalize the National Guard. The court ruled. But the brief ruling by the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, located in Chicago, said President Donald Trump can still federalize the National Guard. The ruling said Trump already deployed don't the ruling stated troops already deployed don't need to return. The appellate ruling largely upholds an October 9th temporary restraining order by a federal district judge in the Northern District of Illinois that prevented the administration from deploying troops in the state. In her opinion, Judge April Perry wrote the National Guard deployment is likely to lead to civil unrest. Is likely to lead, is crazy word to say as a judge, but okay. The judge air the Chicago area has been at the center of the administration's sweeping immigration crackdown, dubbed Operation Midway Blitz. Protests have erupted in response, particularly in front of an immigration and customs enforcement facility in the suburb of Broadview. The administration has deployed National Guard troops from Illinois and Texas in response to what it describes as violent clashes between protesters and agents in the Midwestern state and Chicago, the nation's third largest city. Local and state officials said the federal government is exaggerating facts on the ground. Imagine that. Spokespeople for both Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson didn't immediately respond to email requests for comment. And the White House didn't immediately respond to an email request. So nobody's saying nothing. Trump has also sent National Guards to either heavily blue cities against local officials' wishes. Wishes. In Memphis, Tennessee National Guard began patrolling the city on October 10th. City officials announced. Republican state officials welcomed the administrative action. Elsewhere, Portland, Oregon, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles have seen federal troops sent by the GOP administration. Judges in California and Oregon have found deployments illegal and unwarranted. Now, I have seen, I have seen not a lot of news about any of the deployments in Chicago, but I have seen people's TikToks, and I have seen certain hashtags on X, but not a lot. And so I do think that a lot of this news is being suppressed by uh organizations that don't want the people to see what the organization or the administration is doing. So be cautious and aware, people, because a lot is going on. And if we only stay in our boxes and our bubbles of information, we're not gonna know when it's getting close to that box or bubble. So just be aware, don't be succumbed to it every day, all day, but just be aware of the things. Um says Trump is looking at all his options as the president threatens to invoke the insurrection act. The insurrection act would allow the president to deploy the U.S. military domestically for law enforcement purposes. Let me read that again. The insurrection act would allow the president to deploy the U.S. military domestically for law enforcement purposes. Vice President J. D. Vance indicated in an interview on NBC News Meet the Press on Sunday that President Donald Trump was not opposed to invoking the Insurrection Act. Asked by moderator Christian Welker whether the White House was seriously considering invoking the 1807 statute, Vance said, quote, the president is looking at all his options. End quote. Right now he hasn't felt the he needed to, he also added. NBC News previously reported that White House officials has added increasingly serious talks about whether Trump should invoke the Insurrection Act. If Trump were to invoke the law, it would be the first time since former President George H.W. Bush invoked the law during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Vance's comments come as the White House has federalized National Guard troops in an attempt to deploy them in Oregon and Illinois, aiming to target Portland and Chicago. Both moves have been temporarily blocked in court. The White House's push to deploy troops to Democratic-run cities has alarmed critics who argue the move is an overreach and being done for political purposes. Responding to the questions about the Insurrection Act, Vance pointed to attacks on law enforcement officers who are enforcing immigration laws. We cannot accept that in the United States of America. End quote. The audacity. Anyway. Pressed as to whether there was a rebellion in the cities to trigger the insurrection act. Vance accused the cities of not keeping the statistics properly without offering proof as to why to make such a statement. The president just wants people to be kept safe. And we're exploring everything that we can do to make sure that the American people are safe in their own country. Such a dog whistle to whatever. To make sure that the American people are safe in their own countries. Which American people are you speaking of? Because you're damn sure not making sure the brown people are safe. You're damn sure not making sure the black people are safe. And last I checked, they're a part of America too. So who are you really trying to make sure that they are safe? Trump has previously weighed in on invoking the Insurrection Act, telling reporters that he would consider using the law if it was necessary, adding that so far it hasn't been necessary. But we have an Insurrection Act for a reason, Trump added last week. If I had to enact it, I'd do that. If people were being killed and courts weren't holding us up, or governors or mayors weren't holding us up, sure, I'd do that. End quote. On Saturday, a federal appeals court blocked the White House from deploying federalized National Guard troops in Illinois. The troops can remain federalized, the court said, but cannot be deployed. Ahead of the court's ruling, National Guard troops had already begun arriving in the Chicago area. The governments of Illinois and Chicago filed lawsuits after Trump announced a move prompting a federal judge to temporarily block the administration from deploying National Guard troops there. The White House appealed the first judge's ruling to the seventh court, which ruled against the deployments. So they just did a whole back and forth. And the last back and forth, one of the um appeals judges said they can the ones that are there can remain federalized, but you can't bring any more in. So whoever's there now, it's okay to be there as federalized as National Guard troops. They just can't, they're they're just not allowed to deploy anymore. Um the administration initially tried to deploy Oregon National Guard troops to Portland, but when that move was blocked in court, the administration moved to deploy troops from California to Portland instead. Federal judge ruled that the White House could not send National Guard troops from any other state to Portland as well. The appeals court panel indicated it may be open to reversing the lower court's decision. It's unclear when the court might ultimately rule. One judge on the panel said the court would try to rule as soon as possible. I bet. So they doing all this back and forth. Meanwhile, they're literally letting the National Guard troops stack. And who's gonna stop them from doing it? Like, really, who who is gonna make National Guard troops disperse, leave? They're the ones that go there to make other people leave. So you're who who's gonna make them leave? Who's gonna check them, boo? Are they gonna listen to whomever when they say, hey, you guys are supposed to go uh leave, this is a core order, or are they gonna listen to their president who says they're supposed to be there? I I don't know, but this is where we're at right now. In another story, and I know this seems really heavy Trump-wise, but it's really heavy with news because there's so much shit that he goes on with them, and a lot of stuff is directed indirectly, a result of shit he's done, shit he says he's gonna do, or shit that's already in motion. But anyway, uh Trump directs Pentagon to use available funds to pay military during shutdown. FYI, we are in day 13 of the federal government shutdown. Day 13 of the federal government shutdown. Uh, President Trump says he has identified funds in quotes to ensure the active military gets paid next week as Congress stalls over negotiations to reopen the federal government. I am using my authority as commander-in-chief to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our troops paid on October 15th. We have identified funds to do this as Secretary Hegseth will use them to pay our troops. Trump said Saturday in a post on Truth Social. Active duty troops risked missing their first paychecks on Wednesday, October 15th. Secretary Heggseth reposted Trump's announcement on X stating President Trump delivers for the troops. The Defense Department will use approximately$8 billion of unused research and development funding from last year to pay service members if the government doesn't reopen by October 15th. According to a Pentagon official, not authorized to speak publicly. Meaning the recently identified$8 billion would likely cover just one pay period, leaving future soldier pay uncertain. So they have enough. They miraculously found eight billion dollars, which is just enough to pay for one more pay period. Coincidences. Many service members live paycheck to paycheck. Many people live paycheck to paycheck. I'm sorry. Many service members live paycheck to paycheck and couldn't and could feel the impact quickly. Some members of Congress have proposed a standalone bill called the Pay Our Troops Act or the POTA to compensate soldiers, but Republican leaders in both chambers have insisted that the way to ensure military members are paid is to pass the GOP-backed short-term funding bill that would reopen the government. Democrats and Republicans have both pinned blame across the aisles if troops go without pay. You've got millions of Americans who will now have to figure out how to make their mortgage, how to cover their rent, pay their car note, and keep food on the table because Democrats are playing are here playing games, says Speaker Mike Johnson said Friday. FYI, all that is fluff. The Republicans are in control of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House. They control all of the things that are happening with the federal shutdown right now. Please don't forget that. Anyway, meanwhile, a nonprofit organization that provides services to soldiers and their families is blaming both parties. Military families deserve better than to have our livelihoods tied to political stalemates. CEO of the National Military Families Association and a military spouse said in a statement, Congress must pass the Pay Our Troops Act to ensure service members receive their pay on time, and that our families' financial stability isn't jeopardized while the nation relies on our service members to keep us safe. President Trump previously said he would ensure active military would be paid despite the shutdown. Quote, we will get our service members every last pen penny, Trump said at a Navy event in Norfolk, Virginia last weekend. Don't worry about it. End quote. Yeah, so just based on that, the fact that they all of a sudden found the money, they know where the money's at because they can make the money. Granted, we all know that inflation is a thing, and the more you print of money, the more that money loses its value. And so they can just keep printing money. And that's why they have eight billion dollars. Exactly why. But last final story: Trump admits Spark Trump admin sparks MacAphury with the Qatar Air Base, Air Force Base in the U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Heset again announced on Friday that the United States has green-lit the establishment of a Qatar Emory Air Force facility in Idaho, a move that has drawn backlash from some of the administration's closest MAGA allies, with Lauren Loomer writing on X, I have never felt more betrayed by the GOP over the matter. Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist during President Trump's first term and architect of the MAGA movement, told Newsweek in a text message, in a text message, there should never be a military base of a foreign power on the sacred soil of America. Why this matters? The administration's announcement shocked the MAGA Corps base who have applauded the president on his America First Agenda. The agreement states an Idaho airbase will host a contingence of Qatar F-15s and pilots. The move comes after Trump accepted a luxury Boeing 747 jet from the Qatar government, which drew criticism from Democrats and Republicans, including Loomer. It also comes as the U.S. is working with mediators in the region to put an end to the Israel-Hamas war that began two years ago. Qatar has been a longtime ally of the U.S. and hosts key CENTCOM military operations at Al-Udid Air Base near Doha. In late September, Trump issued an executive order assuring the security of the state of Qatar after Israel carried out a strike in Doha. Here's what you need to know. During a joint press conference addressing the finalization of the peace deal between Israel and Hamas, Heggs thanked Qatar officials for their involvement in the process and announced that the U.S. is signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatar Emory Air Force facility. The facility will be hosted at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, Heg said. Loomer took issue with the administration's move in a series of ex posts writing No foreign country should have a military base on US soil. Period. Especially Islamic countries. That Hegseth, who she calls her friend, should know how bad of an idea it is to allow terror financing Qataris who funded Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood to have an Air Force base on U.S. soil. This is what um Lauren Loomer said to Hegseth. Loomer also added, I don't think I'll be voting in 2026 over the issue. In another post, she wrote, There isn't a single Trump supporter who supports allowing Qatar to have a military base on U.S. soil. I don't know who told the president who told President Trump that this was a good idea, but it has made people not want to vote. This is the type of thing I would expect from a president, Ilan Umar. End quote. The Republic of Singapore also has a presence at the Idaho base, according to the base website. Hex has said in a Friday ex post clarifying the agreement, the U.S. military has a long-standing partnership with Qatar, including today's announced cooperation with F-15 aircraft. However, to be clear, Qatar will not have their own base in the United States, nor anything like a base. We control the existing base like we do all like we do with all partners. Many conservative commentators question how the move is aligned with a Trump's first America first agenda, while others have drawn lines between Qatar, the air base, and unfounded claims of future use not related to military training. There is no indication that Qatar will be using the base for anything other than training and cooperating in the U.S. With Hegeth stating the partnership will enhance our combined training, increased lethalness, and interoperability. Democrats have called out the move, pointing to some of Trump's recent foreign policy and how they fit into promoting America first, particularly during a government shutdown. People are saying what people are saying. Defense Secretary Pete Heggseth said on Friday at the press conference, quote, no one other than President Trump could have achieved the peace which we are believed we will be having a lasting peace in Gaza and Qatar played a substantial role from the beginning. Working with our folks to make sure that came about, so I want to thank you for that historic peace. End quote. The establishment of this facility will provide advanced training opportunities and foster combat operational readiness. The establishment of an enduring location for Qatar F-15 aircraft in Mountain Home provides Qatar with strategic flexibility to operate and sustain their advanced fighter aircraft. A conservative commentator said Qatar has spent a hundred billion dollars buying influence in the U.S. and is now paying off. I am shocked that Washington would approve a deal letting Qatar, Hamas's number one financier, open a Qatar Air Force facility on U.S. soil. Qatar bankrolls Hamas, ISIS, the Taliban, and the Muslim Brotherhood. It plays both sides, the arsonist and the firefighter, funding jihad, then posting as a mediator. This isn't shared defense goals. It's a shared delusion. We are not building peace. We are building a launch pad for the Islamic disaster. This was a quote from a conservative commentator, Amy Malik. One more person said, Ken Martin, chair of the Democratic National Committee, said an economic bailout for Argentina, an Air Force base for Qatar, this guy is doing everything but putting America first. End quote. So we got all the monies to make bases on U.S. soil. Clarification: it's not a base, it's a facility. But same kind of difference. You're gonna have foreign nationals that have an area on a US base that they control, and that they're the only ones that can go in and out of there. Sure, regular people on that base ain't gonna be able to go and out of there. But um, yeah, whoever thought that would be a good idea literally is getting paid in the in the pocket in the back, because there's no way that anyone who deals in any kind of foreign intelligence or foreign national security would ever approve such a move. But a business person, somebody who's just looking at it for money's sake, definitely gonna see the coin in that, and it makes sense for moves like that. So, but that is all I have for you all, and shit you might have missed. Granted, there was probably a lot more shit that probably was missed, but I wanted to keep this episode as uh short as possible, but still be complete and concise. So I appreciate each and every one of you hanging out and listening. If you can do me a favor, share this to anybody who you think should get some information or would be good to share with, leave a review and um check out my other podcast I have. I have a show called Grounded and Ready for Whatever. It's a show about uh disaster prep and mindset when it comes to disaster prepping and uh things of that nature.
