Hi, this is Larry Wilson, and this is how to Talk to Humans. This is the podcast that shows you how to improve your communication skills. Are you looking to get a better job? Are you looking to find a relationship? Are you trying to do things in your life that have frustrated you and eluded you so far? I can show you so easily how to change that. Now I can only do it with humans. If you're looking to deal with vampires or zombies, extraterrestrials, this is not the show for you. But if you're really looking to improve your communication skills, I can show you what I've learned from 40 years in show business working with the biggest celebrities and superstars in the world. And their secrets are unbelievable. What I'm going to be teaching you during this course of this podcast every week are tools that you can use to communicate toward success. Hi, this is Larry Wilson. Thanks again for joining me for another episode of how to Talk to Humans. I have just returned from a very interesting time in Arizona, and as many of you know who listen to this, I have sort of a schizophrenic dual personality. These days. I am very, very immersed in Wilson Method training in creating a five day challenge online for people who want to try out some of it and be able to practice some of the things that I'm teaching that build on each day. And if you're interested in that, you can always find that@thewilsonmethod.com five days with the five being the numeral five. No spaces, just the numeral five days. And it's been fantastic. The response has been fantastic. I'm going to do another one very soon, so if it's something you're interested in, check on it. It's a great way to find out more about how improving your communication can have a profound impact on your business and your personal life as well. There's no question about it. And I wanted to tell you about something that happened to me in Arizona because it seemed so textbook and it seemed like it was some sort of copywriter's dream or something that had presented this. I present it to you here because I can't emphasize enough how concrete examples are around you all the time of the power of using the things I teach in Wilson Method. I was performing at a new club that's there actually in Mesa, Arizona, and it so happens one of the reasons I love being able to travel and perform, I have friends all over the United States and when I travel to some place, I frequently get to reconnect with people I know and love. There's a brilliant, really brilliant comedy magician who lives in Phoenix named Michael Finney. And he, among other things, he's won all kinds of awards. I know that when Siegfried and Roy had a special competition, he won the world champion award for comedy magic. And he certainly deserved it. He's hilarious and wonderful and he lives there with his wife. And I thought, oh, how great. I'll get to see them and hang out. I did. It was wonderful. And one night they're, you know, being charming hosts. They don't have a responsibility to entertain me. You know, I just wanted to see them, but they said, oh, we're going to take you to a fantastic pizza place. I thought, great. Who doesn't like fantastic pizza? So they, and, and people are funny, you know, people's ideas about what's good, what's bad, what's long, what's short. They were worried that I might object because this pizza place was 22 minutes away from my hotel. I thought, 22 minutes, why? That's the amount of time it takes me to introduce myself. That's nothing. 22 minutes. And. But I guess some people think, oh, if it's more than five minutes, I can't bear that. But for great pizza, of course, for great anything, I'd go 22 minutes. So we drove to Gilbert, Arizona, and in a strip mall between a comedy club and a massage parlor, sort of a all purpose mall that had everything you could possibly want. I guess there was, there was a restaurant called Brooklyn's V Pizza. The V is in quotation marks, must refer to someone there. And we went in. I'll cut to the chase here. The pizza was fantastic. I always go to great lengths to make this clear. I do not receive any remuneration from Brooklyn's V Pizza for saying this. I'm just telling you because what a great benefit, unexpected benefit of this podcast. If you find out about great pizza in Arizona, what a great thing. And I'll also tell you this. Apparently there's quite a bit of great pizza in Arizona. No one knows why, there just is. But I had some at Brooklyn these. But the reason this is pertinent to the podcast today is because we were served by a man who introduced himself as Vinnie. Is he the V of Brooklyn's V? My guess would be yes. I didn't ask him if he was. I probably should have. I've never met him before. He has not trained with me. He's never heard of the Wilson method. I guarantee you he knows nothing of it. But Vinnie, at Brooklyn V's embodies everything I want you to know and be able to do. It's all simple. None of it's complicated. I don't know who this guy Vinnie was, but first and foremost, he had fantastic facial affect. His face was in motion and it was so expressive and he had a little bit of a Brooklyn dialect, but not a lot. But he was so excited to meet us. And I assure you, he did not know that I was with the world champion of comedy magic and that I was voted Comedy Magician of the Year. He didn't know that. He didn't know who we were. He was that way with every customer. I don't know if he was on drugs. I don't know why Vinnie was the way he was. All I know was within a matter of seconds of encountering him, you felt connected to him. Why? A number of very simple things that I teach in Wilson Method. I teach in the first day of the five day challenge. His smile was genuine and it was luminous. He lit up like a jack o' lantern, like he was lighted from inside when he saw us. I don't know why. If he had trained with me, I would know why, because I taught certain specific skills, but I don't know what he was thinking. But he had a huge smile and it was authentic. It was a symmetrical smile. And he wasn't doing shtick. He. It's not like he had a prepared rap that he did that was supposed to. It's not like that at all. And this is the reason I interrupt myself only to say that sometimes people say, oh, so you teach tricks? No, I don't teach tricks. Implicit in the word tricks is the idea of deception. As a magician, Yes, I. I do tricks. And they're intended to deceive you and thereby amaze and delight you. As a communications expert, I do not practice deception. I'm hoping that I practice education, I'm hoping that I practice mentorship to be able to show you specific skills that anyone can do. And sometimes people say, oh, so there are hacks in this? No, hacks is the same idea. It suggests you're taking some piece of technology that's intended for one purpose and somehow you've hacked it to do something else. No, that's not what Wilson Method is. It's very straightforward, very simple. This guy Vinnie was unbelievable. He was so engaging and he did like I say, he didn't. He wasn't doing a routine, he wasn't doing shtick for us. He didn't have jokes planned, he was just telling Us on the menu, oh, look here. And he said, you can see here. We added this new thing here. And he said it with such delight, like he was over the moon about these new things. He's added now again. Is he the owner? I don't know. I hope he is, because his place, the night we were there, was a Thursday night and it was packed, so. So I don't think he's having any trouble with business, and I can see why that is. This guy Vinnie was so agreeable, had fantastic eye contact with all of us, looked directly at us. And now I can't remember because it took me by surprise, but I think he asked if we'd ever been there before. And someone in our party asked, oh, what's good? And he started listing and he kept interrupting himself, saying, really, everything's good, Everything's good. And you could tell it wasn't a canned response. He genuinely felt everything was good. If the rest of the food there is on the same par as the pizza, then it should have three Michelin stars, because the food we had was incredible. Incredible. And I just feel like I wanted to share this with this audience because I can't think of anything more humble than a little pizza place. You may have a software company. You might have a landscape company. You might have a H Vac company. Could be anything. You might have a company that teaches people to speak English who speak English as a second language. It could be anything that you do. All of these principles apply. If you did a fraction of what Vinnie was doing, you will see the results in your bottom line within 30 days. Realistically, I think it might be within seven days, but I don't know what your different billing schedules are. I can only tell you that this guy was so friendly and kept checking with us and wanted to come around and see if he could refill our drinks. And he. It was so clear that he was actively listening. He didn't have an agenda that he was going to try and push expensive desserts or alcohol or something. It wasn't like that at all. It was like he was really focused on us having a wonderful meal. That's what his goal was. And when he saw how much we were enjoying, seemed to fill him with joy. Well, this is how you create authentic bonds that last a lifetime. When I left that restaurant, I was shaking his hand and telling him how great it was and how great it was to meet him. Here I am on this podcast that's listened to by thousands of people. I'm not an affiliate of his. I'm not paid by him to say this, but I'm promoting this fantastic place of his because of how he made me feel. I want all of you to be able to have this experience with your customers. And it's easy. It's clearly within your grasp. If you practice the things I talk about, you will be able to be like Vinnie. I don't know if you'll be able to make pizza like Vinnie. I'm gonna have to go back. I this. None of what I'm telling you is absurd or artificial. The next time I'm in Arizona, I don't care where I am. I don't care if it's an hour away from Gilbert, Arizona. I'm going there because I feel like my friend Vinnie is there and I want to see him. And if the bonus is fantastic food, well, that's an incredible, unexpected bonus. You can easily engender the same reaction from your customers. And I realize that I sometimes can go on and on about these things. But for those of you who are excited that I'm doing new episodes of how to Talk to Humans, I urge you to look back and see some of the old episodes. Because they're there. And I was listening to some of them myself recently. I was so impressed with how smart the guy was who was doing them. And then I realized, oh, that's me. Well, they have aged so well and they're all still absolutely pertinent. Nothing about them has aged. So check those out and tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your people online. They'll be delighted if they find out about this. I hope that you will take this message of this episode to heart. And if you have an experience trying to implement the things I'm teaching, that is, it can be either positive or negative. If you have any kind of experience, I hope you'll attempt them and let me know by emailing me@larryilsonmethod.com I'll be looking forward to seeing those, and I'll discuss some of them in some future episodes of this podcast.
