“I’m not smart”.

This is a belief that’s been running on constant replay in my mind for decades, and when you give credence to the voices in your head, you often find evidence to support them.

Today, I'm talking about a topic that's close to my heart and vital for our well-being: self-talk.

In this episode, I open up about a deeply-held belief that has been a significant part of my life, one that most of my family and friends would be surprised to learn about.

“I’m not smart” held me back from participating in class discussions, attending college classes, and speaking up at board meetings. It made me doubt whether my accomplishments were mine or just dumb luck (pardon the pun).

Then Coach Jenn Lee entered my life, and in just a 90-minute coaching session, I began to shed the “I’m not smart” narrative and started to embrace my brilliance.

I hope that by sharing this story, you’ll realize that your thoughts and beliefs may not necessarily reflect reality. Instead of unquestioningly accepting them, you can interrogate them, challenge them, and ultimately banish them for good.

❤️ This week’s DARE is a self-talk challenge. Here's your challenge:

1. Pay Attention: Journal your thoughts for a week. Write down those negative narratives.

2. Create Your "I Am" List: Identify 7-10 words that reflect your strengths and values. Then, recite them aloud twice daily for 21 days.

3. Seek External Validation: Ask three people for three words describing you. Add their words to your list, highlighting the new additions.
