Listen as Patty passionately shares about BEMER therapy, a non-invasive method that stimulates muscles and improves circulation.

Recounting her personal journey, Patty tells us about her family's health challenges in 2017 and how discovering BEMER led to remarkable health transformations for her family, herself on a personal injury as a kid and how the BEMER therapy has helped  countless others.

Hey everyone, I'm here with Patty Ick, the owner of Eight Minutes to Wellness, where she offers Beamer therapy. Hey Patty, how are you? I'm doing very well. Thank you for coming on the show. Sure. Thanks for having me. I've been looking forward to this. Absolutely. So, um, let's talk a little bit about what is Beamer?

Patty

What is Beamer? That's the ultimate question. So it's a therapy and a lot of people ask me, well, Is it gonna, is it invasive? It's, this is a non-invasive therapy. You would literally come to my office and you sit on a nice chase lounge, relax, and um, it puts a signal into your body, uh, that helps stimulate your muscles and increase your circulation. So it's the best thing I've ever found, and it's completely changed my life really. So does that. So let's get into. Why you started using bemer in the first place and then kind of how it developed into a business. Okay. So, um, back in 2017, uh, I had a daughter who was suffering with lots of health challenges and I cannot talk, talk about those right now. But, um, she was suffering with lots of health challenges and we were looking for anything and everything to help her. Uh, we had done the traditional route for about four years, uh, with no luck. Uh, that's when we reached out to a family friend who was a nutritionist and she helped her get on vitamins and we switched up her diet and did all that stuff. Um, and then she told me about this BEMER therapy, and I'm like, okay, it sounds really hokey, but sure. I. So my parents actually ended up by getting one first, been on it for, um, twice a day, uh, for, for eight minutes, twice a day. The whole, um, thing behind this is it's a wellness system, so you wanna be on it twice a day, and then you have targeted applications that target the blood flow to go to certain areas. And then there's a rest and relaxation program that you do at night. And, um, the results we've gotten, our whole family has used us and we've gotten amazing results. I can literally sit here all day and tell you all the results I've gotten on just myself. Um, So anyway, when we signed up for that, uh, the person above me is like, oh, you know, be a distributor of this. I'm like, no way. I hate selling things I don't want to do. I want nothing to do with that. Yeah. And, uh, she's known me for years, so she's like, oh, no, no, you're gonna want to, you're gonna wanna help people. And I go, well, I do love helping people. And she's like, you gotta go to this academy. I'm like, all right, I'll go to an academy. I wanted to learn more about this thing anyway,'cause I'd never heard of it. Right. So, um, we had to drive to Michigan. We got trained and the whole way there, my husband's the same way as me. I'm not doing this. I'm like, I get it, I get it. So literally we went to a room and there were a hundred plus other people in this room and they were all sharing these amazing testimonials and. The energy in this room was like nothing I had ever experienced, and our ride home ended up by being me sitting there with a notebook and I was jotting down all the different things that, uh, or all the different people that we wanted to help. So we wanted to come home and help all of our friends. Well, you, I don't know if you know what's that's like to wanna help all your friends, but they're like, yeah, okay. Weird lady. Get away from me. Right? Yeah. This is just kooky. So, um, so yeah, so that didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but, um, we just kept trying and we're still trying to help our friends. So. So now how long has it been since. Six years. So six years. And then before you started the business, how long have you been using it personally? Oh, well, we, we, we started using it six years ago, so, um, we went to the first academy about six months after we started using it. Um, and then from then we, uh, would bemer people in our home. And, uh, I just opened the studio in the, we're in the old MatchWorks building in Menor. We, in 2017. So that was six years ago.

Joe

Yes. When you guys first, um, started using the Beamer and noticing results, um, and you guys have been using it, your family ever since. And so when did you start your business with, with actually helping people in a, in a business? Well, and that's a little. A little hard to, to say because we, well, it was six months after we got our Beamer that we went to the academy.

Patty

So I would say after six months, we started just inviting people to our home. Oh, okay. Um, I, I invited strangers to my home. I had a couple people take me up on it, which was really cool. So. Yeah. Um, but I mean, it's alternative, it's something different. It's, it is, you know, you know, and, you know, they were happy to come and, and try it and, It's not really the way to go. I, I guess, you know, I, we got to go somewhere and try this. My parents had it, so we trusted them and, and we were able to try it that way. But, um, I think it's much better having a studio. So it's not, you're not coming to my home. It's a little weird, right? Yeah. I mean, the whole thing's a little weird. Anyway, so, you know, you add the factory of your home. I mean, most people might think it's strange. I mean, I, I love the alternative, you know, part two. You know, medicine and different things that you can do. I, I'm always interested in, you know, learning what can be added to what you're doing. Right. Um, absolutely.

Joe

How has business been for you since you started, like I. I guess has it grown a lot from, you know, from your house, you started in your house and, oh, definitely bring people. It's much more professional. Um, and, you know, when people come in, I, I explain to what this is, you know, we fill out some paperwork and then I get them on the device. And I will tell you the, the thing that I started out doing this was for my friends and family and. That's been the best thing about opening the studio for me. Yeah. I've had those people who at first were like, yeah, okay, no, to, okay, you're, you're kind of legit now. So they're coming around and, and you know, they're coming around to the therapy and they're getting results and that's, I literally got into this to help all my friends and family because, you know, our lives were going downhill and now they're, they're, I call it the domino effect. You know, you, you get one issue and it goes to another and it goes to another. Oh, yes. You know, ours. Is are going the other way. Our dominoes are starting to stand back up. I say, so in that aspect, I want healthy people around me. I want people who, you know, can participate in the sports activities that we did and Right. You know, so I really wanna help people feel better. So that's my whole thing and I am so grateful to be able to do this. Because I am not a nurse, I am not a doctor, and by all means, I give credit to the nurses and the doctors out there. I could never do it. You come into my office if you're bleeding and I will be passed out on the floor next to you. So, um, what has been, now this is kind of an alternative, right? Um, what has been the difficult part of this in getting your business going? That ultimately helps people,'cause you've seen it, they've come through with results. Um, I have been, yes. You came. Yes. Yep. I thank you for that. And you know, I have been having some issues with. You know, my feet and I can talk about it.'cause this is me. That's you. Yeah. Right. I can't talk about it, but you can, you know, and in conjunction with going to the chiropractor and helping with my plantar's fasciitis, uh, and in, you know, the sessions that I've had, um, it seems like it has accelerated the issues that I've had with my feet. And with my nerve pain that I've had accelerated In a good way though, right? No. Right. Accelerated, well I should say accelerated it in a way that accelerated it to heal. Okay. Yeah. Quicker. Yeah. Right. Um, so I can share that.'cause you know, that's part of my experience with the Beamer. It's your testimony. Yeah. I cannot share other people's testimonials. I can only share my own. Right. I think it's, I, I I, I, I think it could be a, a very good addition to what you're doing and, um, you know, uh, introduction into your everyday life.'cause I'm interested in all that stuff. If I don't have to go to the doctor and I can stay the hell away from that, and then I'm all on board. Um, well, I look at it too. I mean, the doctors are so overwhelmed now with, with their patients and keeping up and, you know, this is something people can do at their home and, you know, you break your arm. You're not gonna come to my studio, you're gonna go and get your arm put in a cast, right? Although we can put this therapy through a cast, which I thought was very interesting. Um, but the Beamer can help with reduce reducing stress. It can improve rest and recovery. It can optimize pre, uh, physical performance. It can enhance muscle conditioning, it improves physical fitness, and you can enjoy a better, all overall feeling of wellbeing. So that are, those are the main things that, that Beamer can help you with. So, yeah, and I encourage people to go to the website to look at and watch the. The blood flow video is amazing. The blood flow video, right? I mean that's the before and the after. Yeah. Um, and the really cool thing with this is even after you leave my office, this is gonna continue to work on you for the next 12 to 18 hours, right? So when you are, if you think of a lot of other, uh, things that you do when you go to somebody's office, you know, you get adjusted or whatever there, but when you leave, it's done. So that's the. Most interesting and yet the hardest thing, um, for my office is you might not notice anything when you're in the office with me. Right? You might notice something in an hour or two hours or overnight. So, um, I always, so that's why I do my. I always ask people to come three sessions within a week. If you're gonna come to me and to start this therapy, I want you to give it a fair shot. And by doing that, doing three sessions in a week, I can talk to you and see what results you've actually gotten. Um, then I can play with a signal. We can go up, we can go down, um, to, to actually, uh, customize the program to you. So, um, that it's really cool though that this thing stays in you and it's gonna keep working throughout the night, so, right. So what have been your challenges? Because this is not a traditional type of, Therapy. Therapy. Yes. So what have been your challenges with your business? I'm sure you've had many, but what, what's kind of one that sticks out? Basically that you don't feel anything when you're on it. A lot of times some people feel a little tingling or a little warmth. Yeah. Yeah. So it's a little hard to be sitting on a couch, uh, with this, uh, mat under you and not feeling anything. And then you leave. And some of the results are very subtle. Like they just disappear and they go away and, You know, you, unless you think about them, you don't even know you got the result. So, um, it, a lot of times it takes me going, okay, well, you know, how did you have more energy? Oh yeah. You know, I right rearranged my house, or I walked longer, or, you know, those are results, but yet people don't necessarily pay attention to that. Um, but those are all results and I always say a small result now will hopefully end up with a big result later. So, yeah. Absolutely. That's what's happened to us anyway. So that's it. You've been using this for years. Um, you know, what kind of results I guess have you had or have noticed, you know, over time with using the Beamer? So my biggest result was I was in a car accident in my thirties. Um, I have, uh, neck issues from it and, um, There were times when I would have horrible discomforts that I couldn't function for a day or two days. I had no energy. In fact, my mom, I used to say that I was the energizer bunny. And now, well, not now, but back then I, after the accident I was a, the energizer bunny with a dead battery. So, um, I've gotten all of that back. I used to have back discomfort and neck discomfort, and. Those are gone. I remember laying in the garden when I, when I tried to garden, stretching my back out and I don't have to do that anymore. Um, so that's been my biggest thing to get my life back. I always say when I was in my thirties, I felt like I was in my sixties and now that I'm in my forties, I feel like I'm in my twenties. So, um, that just goes to show you if you keep up with it and you keep using it. Um, the, the things that can happen for you. So, um, I actually also had my, my weirdest result I would say is my fingers. Um, I didn't even know I had this, but back, uh, when I was little, I used to own a baking business and I guess I burned my fingers so many times that I'd put my hands under the hottest water. And it didn't, didn't phase me, you know? Or when the waiter or waitress would come over and they'd try to give you their, their plate and they'd say, oh, it's hot. Oh no, I'm good. Just give it to me. Um, and then one day I stuck my hands under the same water that I'd been washing my dishes in for years. And I'm like, oh my gosh, that's so hot. I got all the feeling back in my fingers. That was very weird to me. Um, and I can't attribute that to anything but this because I wasn't doing anything with this. But every morning I put it across my gut and I put my hands on it. So, you know, I'm. I'm assuming that's what it's from. So very weird results like that. Um, my knee, I broke it when I was, uh, in ninth grade, and I'm not gonna tell you how long ago that was, um, but I broke my knee and, you know, when the weather would change, I'd be able to feel it, you know, I can't anymore, so I'm not a good weather predictor anymore. So, um, but yeah, it's just, we use it all the time and that, um, being a mom, um, my daughter's away at college. She's, uh, She actually just called me today, mom. Oh my gosh, I don't feel good. I'm like, okay, well what are you gonna do? So she goes and gets on her Beamer, you know, just to have that, um, that resource in your home is amazing to me. Um, so we started out with one Beamer and I have five right now, so. So everybody's got their own. Yep. Everybody's got their own, so, yeah. Yeah. That's kind of neat. I like it. You like it? Yeah. I like I said it, you know. I think it really sped up my healing process. Now what, when you came to my studio, wasn't it, was it what, what you were expecting, um, or what were you expecting? I really wasn't knowing. I don't what else I was gonna expect. You know, I didn't, didn't have anything. I just figured, you know, I'd check it out. Just try it. Yeah, yeah. You know? Um, and at the time it's when I started, uh, Going to the chiropractor to really focus on my plantar's fasciitis because I had nerve pain in my foot. And, you know, I'm not solely convinced that, you know, chiropractic alone had done what it did in that shorter period of time. It had definitely helped for sure. Um, but I, I think that increasing that blood flow, All the muscles in my foot, I should say both feet, um, helped out a lot and, and allowed what the chiropractor was doing, which eventually, I, I truly believe that, you know, I could have gone for another, whatever, 12 weeks, you know, or more, until it completely was taken care of. Um, but it really was a short period of time.'cause I still had, you know, touching my foot. I still had nerve pain and then came through with four sessions along with twice a week, you know, focusing on my planter's fascitis at the chiropractor. Um, I can, I can put pressure on that nerve and it doesn't give me pain in my toe. So, Again, I truly believe that that was something that helped sped up that process by increasing the blood flow into my feet to those muscles while those, while it was being worked on. Yeah. That's awesome. Yeah, I, I actually have people come in, they're like, oh, should I stop doing chiropractic? Should I stop doing physical therapy? No. Yeah. It's in addition to, I really think it, it helps speed up the process of anything that, you know, you got going on. Your, your wellness plan is a whole, and we learned this when, when my daughter was sick, we learned that the wellness. Not just one thing. Like if you just, you know, exercise and exercise and you eat junk, you're not gonna get the same result if you, you know, you gotta not have all kinds of stress in your life, you know, enjoy your life the way it is. And that's one big push that, um, that I like to, to talk about with people is, um, you know, you've gotta enjoy your life. You've gotta reduce your sweat stress, you've got to eat, you know, as well as you can. It's a lifestyle. You know, everything is good in moderation. Exactly. You know, because I don't think that I would ever want to give up chocolate. I love chocolate. Yep. I don't eat chocolate as much as I used to eat it. Sure. But I still like to enjoy it. And well, when we, I like to bake. I, I've been a baker my whole life, you know, but when my daughter got sick, we kind of changed and we were like, okay, instead of just using regular sugar, we use cane sugar now. And you know, you make these subtle substitutions and your food actually tastes really good. You know, I, and I'll tell you a quick story. My, when my daughter was sick, she, um, was very nervous because going to school, you know, she was in middle school and she was afraid all the other kids were gonna make fun of her lunches. And I'm like, there's nothing I can do, honey. We have to, you have to go to school and, you know, you have to eat food at school. So, um, the one day she came home and she's like, oh my gosh, I'm so hungry. And I'm like, why are you so hungry? Well here the other kids were eating her food because it tasted better. So from better, it's better than the school lunch. Yeah. Well, not, I mean, for whatever, I mean, you know, they're eating whatever they were eating, but um, you know, we were sending her with, you know, she ate Oreos, but it was a better Oreo. There were plant-based Oreos out there. Right. So just looking for those little things. And that is something that I love talking about people with people when they come to the studio, you know, my, our, our chats go from anything from that to, you know, what. Where are you going on vacation? And I feel like people come in as strangers and they leave as friends. It's, I am so grateful to be doing this. I love what I do. So Sounds like fun helping people. I mean, how, how is that not fun? Right? It is. And I always tell people when they leave, you have to tell me your testimonials because that is my favorite part. Absolutely favorite part of this. So,'cause I really, you come to me, I have people come to me all the time and they say, Hey, how long is this gonna take? Um, you know, when, when am I gonna feel better? I have no idea. It's up to your body. I have, you know, I have no idea. It's up your body and your mind too. I mean, Your mind does have a huge, huge, um, thing to play in this. Uh, so if you're gonna come to my office and you're gonna be like, oh, this isn't gonna work. You know, you can find ways that this isn't gonna work, but you know, it's got science backed behind it, it does work, and it's been the most amazing thing for us. So That's awesome. So, who's been the person that has inspired you most? I guess maybe as a mentor? As a mentor. So there's one woman that she's very high up in, in Beamer, and um, I remember her telling her story of,'cause I'm like, I joke, I'm the turtle. So I'm the turtle of Beamer. I, I've overcome lots of things in selling this because I, I'm not a salesperson. I'm not, um, this is not something that I like. Went to school for or anything like that. So I have to get over my mental things about that. I'm selling a product. Right. Um, but anyway, she got into this and she got into it years and years ago and, um, she went to all these meetings and I guess there were a lot of men involved in it that time. And she said how it took her a long time for her to actually sell her first Beamer. And she's like, you know, I kept getting frustrated. And they're like, no, no, no, just stick with it. And she's. The most down to earth, just most amazing person I've ever met, and she's helped so many. So I strive to be that, uh, one day. So we'll see. Colin, I, I, I'm sure you know, consistency has been a big part of that. It is, yeah. For her, yeah, definitely commitment to what she does and how she helps people. Yep. And one thing I like about Beamer is they say you don't sell it, you share it. And I, for me, that's huge because my biggest fear, and in, in my old job, she said, you're the best salesperson. And I'm like, oh my God, you insulted me. Like no end. So sorry for all you salespeople out there, but I do not wanna be a salesperson. I, I just, I don't know, there's some stigma with that word for me. I, I think it's perspective, um, because you are selling, but. In your mind. I'm helping. You're sharing? Yep. Helping people. I, that's what I'm in this for. I wanna help people. I don't want you to be like, oh, she sold me this. You know? Right. So, yeah. Whatever works. Something that just, you know. At what point did you consider this to be a success? Because you've had some challenges. You've had, you know? I'm sure a lot of skepticism. Oh, definitely, definitely. And I'm, you know, I, I can see that, you know, with different mod, I mean, I'm just talking about it to people. They're like, uh, God, you know, it's like, there you go again. You know? I mean, you, you, you have to try it, you know, have an open mind about, about it. But, um, I'll tell you, I'm the first one to, to tell you that I've wanted to quit this business so many times. Yeah. Um, but I just kept going back to this, this thing has literally changed my life. And, you know, what? Had my daughter not been sick, I probably, I, I would've not bought this because I don't do things for myself. I would've never asked to spend our family's money on something for myself. But since my daughter was sick, there is no way I wasn't giving this, you know, I would've worked extra and everything else to, to have her feel better. Um, and, and, you know, we needed one of these. So, and as I hit kept having people tell me that, you know, this doesn't work. It doesn't work. It, there's no way that this can work. I'm like, you know what? I'm living proof that this works. So I had to just keep going back to that and pushing through. Um, so, and now, now I will tell you it's really fun because I go to meetings and stuff like that, and there's several people there who have tried it and they're sharing their stories with other people and. It makes a huge difference when you're hearing it from, you know, four or five people versus me, you know, when I'm the lone person out there saying, Hey, this is gonna help you. Yeah. You know, they're like, yeah, okay. I've never heard of this before. Um, but now things are starting to spread and there's testimonials out there. There's tons of athletes that use this. Um, NASA is actually working with BEMER to get this in the space suit, so that's amazing. Uh, the N F L are using this, um, The Pickleball Association is just, uh, joined in with Beamer. So there's a lot of good happening and I really hope people are gonna start hearing about this and jumping on board because we need it. So it's really a word of mouth. It's definitely a word of mouth. Testimonials from Mouthers. Yes. What's your favorite part of, you know, being an entrepreneur? My favorite part? Yeah. Um, I think I. I like having the schedule of what I wanna do when I wanna do it. I mean, I, it's not, my days are never the same. I go out to networking things. I do podcasts. You never know what's gonna come up in a day, and I also never know who's gonna come through my door. So, yeah, that is pretty exciting for me. I, you know, I don't know what the next challenge is that I'm gonna be met in the office with, and. Uh, who I'm gonna be able to help. So that's, that's exciting for me. I, you know, when I get a new client, it's like, oh, you know what, the, what, what are we gonna be able to help with this person? So what testimonial is gonna come out of this? So cool. What's been the most difficult, the most difficult, diff, or, or, or what do you not like about. Being, uh, your own boss? Being my own boss, um, it's really hard to just get out there and know what to do. Like, um, as far as I'm not a business person. I'm like, I've struggled with that aspect of it, you know, I just feel like I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants with that one. So, um, You know, I am it, I have to do the financials, I have to do the, oh, I know about that. All that stuff. And it's like, oh my gosh. You know, there's a lot to opening a business that, you know, you don't really realize. So that's been kind of eye-opening to me. Um, I've had a lot of people helping me and, uh, and we're getting there, so it's, it's been good. So I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I, I absolutely, I love what I do, so I'm with you. Me too. That is awesome. I think everybody should, and I'm trying to instill that in my kids now. Um, you know, they're in, they're in their teens and, uh, you know, my one's off at college. And don't go into something that you don't love to do because I don't feel like I work. I truly don't. I, I, I feel like I go to work and I talk to my friends. You know, it's, it's not like you're going to an office and so many people don't like their jobs, and I think, oh my gosh, that's a huge part of your life. So pick something you'd love to do. Yeah. What would you tell? So here's you. Okay. And here's. Little you little me. What kind of advice would you give to little, you always stay true to yourself. Oh, I love that. Yeah. I've, I, I've always been honest. I've always, um, tried to do the right thing and I, I can't imagine not doing that. And I don't ever want the guilt or the. Whatever comes, you know, you see all these people doing these things in the world and I'm like, you know, if you could've just done that in a good way, look where your life would've been. And I don't want those skeletons in my closet or anything like that, so, so that's what I hold true to yourself. So it empowers you. It does. It makes you feel good too. And you get a lot of true friends out of it. I have really, really good friends. Yeah. So, yeah. Awesome. Alright, so we're coming to the end of the podcast and, uh, there's two questions that I asked you to pick out. Okay. Uh, and that I could ask you. Sure. And the first question was, are you an introvert or an extrovert? I'm actually an introvert. I. So I am out and bubbly and, and fun and I definitely enjoy people, but I love being at home. I love sitting in front of a fireplace and chilling and watching a movie. Um, and then in the summertime I love being out in my garden. So when I'm not at work, I'm at home. I'm a definitely a homebody. That's where you recharge. Exactly. I love it. So our next question is, if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Probably South Carolina. So I love it down there. We've got, um, there's palm trees. It's totally different from here. Um, not that I've grown up here my whole life and I love it up here, but, um, to try something new, I think down in South Carolina,'cause you've got, uh, the shells. I love walking the beach and picking up the shells. Yeah. So my husband's like, how many of these things do we need? We need a lot. We love the shell. And they're all beautiful and they're all different. So, yeah. Definitely. Uh, so you collect shells? I do. I love it. Oh boy, that's awesome. Yeah, I always thought of gonna somewhere warm. Um, and I think I just want to visit a lot. Okay. Alright. Because I don't, I don't know what I would do without the season changes. It would be weird. That's true. That would be weird. Well, I, I really wanna do snowbirding down there for a while, right. Because. Yeah, I'm not one, I'm like a nervous Nelly. I can't just pick up and move, like these people amaze me that, oh, they just pick up and move to a new state. You don't know anyone there or anything. I couldn't do that. So, yeah. So I have to transition, so, yeah. Yeah, I wouldn't mind going and spending time, but you know, the choice to get stuck in the snow is cool. I don't know if I'd say that. Well, I mean, you know,'cause you had, you could leave. Well, that's true. That's true. And, and not be around for the next one. Right. Well, yes, that would be good. It's kinda like the snow if it snows now, you know, summer's coming and spring's pretty much here, so you can let it snow now, so, yeah. Right. Awesome. Well listen Patty, thank you so much for being on. Oh, thank you. This was a blast. Yeah, this was cool. And uh, I look forward to, uh, having you come back. Oh, great. I would love to talk a little bit more and, uh, how your business is doing and Yep. We got some exciting stuff coming up that I haven't told you about yet. So hopefully when those are coming up, then we'll, uh, we'll get back together. Alright, well that sounds good. Alright, sounds good. Thanks. Thank you. Cool.
