The Birth and Postpartum Diaries

11 | Amy Carmody's Birth Story - Emergency Cesarean & Planned Cesarean + The Importance of Educating Yourself & Staying Active in Pregnancy

Jade Spears Episode 11

In today's episode I speak to Amy Carmody about the birth of her two sons who are four years apart. Although they were both born via cesarean, Amy explains how incredibly different the births were and how the birth of her first son heavily influenced her choices for the second.

She also speaks openly about:
- Infertility challenges
- the importance of movement pre-pregnancy and during pregnancy
- Inappropriate comments in pregnancy
- Her experience of pelvic girdle pain and how she got on top of it
- How pain can help us learn and grow
- Why pelvic floor relaxation and release work may be important for you in pregnancy (and birth!)
- Why it's important to have birth preferences, not a birth "plan"
- Why there is no such thing as "failure" in the way that you have birthed
- The absolute beauty of family life
- The financial realities of having a family

This is a somewhat longer episode, but Amy's story is so captivating and reveals so many wonderful lessons about pregnancy, birth and beyond, so it's well worth a listen!
