Spiritual Disciplines: Work and Rest

God’s design has always been for His people to live in a rhythm of work and rest—reflecting His image by cultivating the world and then delighting in Him. But in our sin we distort that design, turning work into slavery and rest into escape, leaving our hearts restless. Through Sabbath discipline, God graciously retrains us—teaching us to stop, to rest, to delight, and to contemplate so that we live as free people, no longer bound to Pharaoh or to our own performance. And every Sabbath day we keep is not just a day off; it’s a foretaste of eternity. Because in Christ, the true Sabbath rest has already begun, and one day it will be complete: a
rest where we glorify God and enjoy Him forever, where our restless hearts finally and fully find their rest in Him.
