Acts: The Sending and the Sorcerer

In Acts 13, a worshipping community in Antioch hears the Holy Spirit ask for their best leaders—and releases them without resistance. What follows is one of the most dramatic scenes in the book of Acts: a sorcerer, a Roman proconsul, a counterfeit gospel, and a confrontation that ends with one man struck blind and another coming to faith. But this is not just a story about the ancient church. The sorcerer is still with us—offering salvation in everything but Christ, blinding people to the real thing. What Luke shows us here is the pattern every church in every generation is called to inhabit: worship deeply, release willingly, and press into opposition with the confidence of people who know how the story ends.
