Maker of Secret Paths
We all have hidden paths in our lives, but how often do we really look for them? Today, I want to share a heartwarming tale about making a secret clubhouse in the woods for my son and the larger meaning it unearthed about the journeys we all undertake. This story isn't just about a father and son building a clubhouse; it's about finding joy and purpose in unexpected places, and a reminder that we all have a divine path to tread.

I love you all. This is simple thought, simple prayers. A few Saturdays ago I got a path in the small patch of woods behind our house. I told my son it was a secret passage and that we were going to make him a clubhouse in the middle of it, a special private place in the woods, just for him, because I'm skillless. His clubhouse is presently a child's lawn chair and a kitty picnic table, but it doesn't matter. He is too and is thrilled with the idea of having a path and that way age doesn't matter. We all want a path, a path to follow, a career path, a path to a better life, a path to some beyond. Even. Psalm 1611 says you make known to me the path of life. Showing my son that path brought so much life to him. That night he strained his eyes looking out the window, trying to find his special spot out amid the darkness, just looking for that clubhouse, that path.
Speaker 1:The passage continues in your presence. There is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forever more. I said there was a child's lawn chair out there in the clubhouse area I constructed. That is incomplete, for there are two chairs out there. That's the completion. It's a sort of companion, a togetherness. We do not have to sit alone.
Speaker 1:And that day, under the deep shade of the trees, I delighted there with my boy, in his pleasure, in his joy. We laughed, taking the smiles with us when night coaxed us home To think that some eternal being, some loving divinity, some tender God, has a path designed for me, staggering. But to take it further and think of how that path leads to company, to friendship, to follow the mother and son, laughter with him, is the stuff of pure joy. I want to walk that path today. I want to strain my eyes against the night for it, to catch a glimpse of it, to see it, knowing that along the way my joy will be made full, my pleasures may complete.
Speaker 1:In the maker of secret paths, lord, guide us today. Guide us in secret paths made specifically for us in order to enjoy the fullness of you. Show us that there's a seat there for us, and one across the way. That's you, and we can sit underneath the shade that you've created. And the place that you've created and the love that you've created and the refuge that you've created and the very joy that you've created Envelop us in that today. God, you have a path for us. Let us be bold enough to walk in it, let us be brave enough to go into those woods knowing that we're seeking our maker and knowing that he is there, calling us to him. Guide us, be with us, amen, amen.
