Speaker 1:

Hello, my brothers and sisters, how we doing. It's Walt here, with Simple Thoughts and Simple Prayers. Today we'll be covering two passages of Scripture, the first in Exodus 16, manna from heaven, and the second, john 6, 22-40, the bread of life. I love food. I mean, who doesn't? What's for lunch and what's for dinner are probably two of the most frequently asked questions in the history of mankind. And let's face it, sometimes the hunger pangs hit you like a ton of bricks. You eat a whole meal and in no time you're ready to devour every snack that you can find. It's the circle of life right Eat, sleep and repeat. Or as my three boys would say, eat, sleep and poop.

Speaker 1:

I'm sure we've all experienced that insidious hunger. You know the kind where you could eat a whole carnage hen. Well, let me tell you, the Israelites knew a thing or two about hunger. After toiling under the Egyptian yoke. They were used to getting their meals from their oppressors. But then came freedom, and closely following it came manna, this mysterious flaky substance that fell from the sky. Now, if you had a whole pantry full of food and then God dropped manna on your doorstep, you wouldn't be too excited about it, would you? But empty out that pantry cue. The hunger pains and suddenly a bit of nourishment from above becomes pretty dang appetizing. For the Israelites, manna was their lifeline. It was a daily reminder of God's provision. For 40 years they relied on this heavenly bread.

Speaker 1:

Now let's fast forward to the New Testament. Jesus, after feeding 5,000 men and who knows how many women and children with five loaves and two fish, went off to be alone. He needed some quiet time with a father. Can you imagine the pressure? Having so many eyes looking to you for hope, feeding so many mouths? It was a miracle, a miracle meal, that's for sure. But even after this incredible display of God's power, the people still were hungry. They wanted more of that miracle bread.

Speaker 1:

And John 6 paints a vivid picture. Jesus says I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. Jesus is reminding them and us that it's not just about physical hunger. It's a spiritual hunger, a deep craving for something more, something that hits the spot and leaves us full. We spend so much time chasing after the things to fill that void in our lives. But the truth is, only God can truly satisfy that deep hunger. It's like the Beatitudes say so.

Speaker 1:

Let's make the Word of God our daily bread. Let's feast on His promises and let His love rain down on us. Let's trust that he will provide for our every need, just like he provided manna for the Israelites. Let's taste and see that the Lord is good. Yesterday, today and tomorrow. Let us pray.
