Suffering Need Blooms to Joyful Giving
It is amazing how our hour of need can bring us to a place of giving. In this episode, Jason sits with two friends Matt and Aaron who found themselves on the streets of Philadelphia, suffering from the elements and the infirm torpid relationships that characterize an existence without the stability of shelter and a healthy community. Fortunately, the bond between them was none of the above, and their combined commitment to overcoming adversity allowed friends and family to support them and lift them up. Today, their journey inspires them to lend a hand to those suffering as they once had. If you would like to give back to this suffering community Matt and Aaron encourage you to volunteer by clicking here on The Clay Street Shelter operated by the YMCA of the Roses and located here at Otterbein UMC. Rev. Chris Eden is the pastor of Otterbein United Methodist Church and Jason Burgess is the Media Specialist for OUMC. These two are happy to present to the congregation and beyond, something to engage the ears and hearts, as well as, mind, body, and spirit. This season will focus on an important mission: OUMC’s collaboration with various city and county organizations to build a much-needed low-barrier emergency shelter for individuals in our community experiencing homelessness. We will chronicle the journey of building this shelter from the ground up. Along the way, you’ll meet neighbors both with and without housing, as well as community leaders who are already working to care for unhoused individuals, providing resources and case management, and addressing the need for affordable housing.
Join us on this journey of compassion and commitment as we adapt our long-standing dedication to this community, now with a new shelter ministry in mind.
