Episode 8: Grief, Acute Stimuli, and David mixes up Tad and Willie Lincoln
Nov 15, 2018 Season 1 Episode 8
Jody Clarke / David Deane
A discussion of grief, dying, death, funerals, Christmas, necrophobia, and Tad Lincoln
Show Notes

In this episode Rev. Dr. Canon Jody Clarke joins David to talk about grief and why this time of year is filled with stimuli that trigger painful memories. Along the way they discuss why the modern world sequesters dying and how the Church must help us to the resist this. Jody brings fascinating insights about the psyche and the neurobiology of grief while David, to his embarrassment, mixes up Tad and Willie Lincoln*

*While David discussed the impact of Tad Lincoln's death on his parents it was not Tad Lincoln who died in childhood but his brother Willie. Both contracted typhoid in 1862, but while Willie succumbed,Tad lived 9 more years before dying in 1871 at the age of 18.
